To Sonic from Padova,
As is planned, one of the empty lots near Jinmao is reserved for yet another supertall, which is taller than Jinmao and shorter than SWFC.
The proposed North Bund Tower is on the west bank of Huangpu River; in other words, it's in Puxi.

They should try to build a skyscraper taller than Burj Dubai there, that would be awesome. :)

give it 20 years or so, and things taller than burj dubai will be the norm in huge cities like shanghai or hong kong

They likely won't. Such a tower would overwhelm already crowded infrastructure, whereas in Dubai everything is built from scratch. Maybe on the outskirts of town in one of the master-planned communities...

Agree
If Population and commercial density and demand for more buildings increases, as well as the regular construction of buildings taller than BD, we will likely see some of them in these cities as improvements to releave tension on a city's problems (like transportation).

I doubt that because 400/500m buildings aren't even the norm yet. Remember the fact that elevators will take up a huge amount of space in those taller than BD buildings and until we get some revolutionary lift system I don't think we'll be seeing a lot of these being built in the near future.

I was speaking in terms of in 20 years or so. I agree with you and don't think they will put anything much taller than what they have now, especially since HK has restrictions right now for buildings to not be taller than the mountains (one design for US7 was rejected because of heigth).

I remember reading about that a while ago. Why would they have that type of height restriction?

Since have already reached 500 meters soon, is not it better to exceed 500 meters? ? ?

I think the restrictions in hong kong are actually to do with feng shui, not completely sure, maybe that was shanghai.having a building taller than the mountains removes the positive effects of having mountains near by or something.

the height restriction is never determined by feng shui, its sometimes affect the exterior design......the height restriction only in kowloon side ,even kai tak airport has been moved,it has to protect the mountain behind kowlooon can not hide by new kowloon skyline
