The Anambra State Government has concluded arrangements with world football governing body, FIFA, to build an international standard football stadium to boost the game’s development in the South-East.
The project is part of the ongoing FIFA Goal Project in the country, which is meant to re-enforce the development of football in rural communities.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Dr. Edozie Aroh, gave the information to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Ogidi near Onitsha on Friday.
Aroh said the government had provided a large expanse of land in Ogidi in Idemili North Council Area for the project, adding that the land was previously used by footballers for training.
“We have got approval from the state government to site an international stadium here in collaboration with FIFA through the FIFA Goal Project.
“So, soon it will come to be. We already have existing provisions, existing land which belongs to the government and which we are going to convert for the project,” he said.
The commissioner said that Ogidi was chosen because of its central location and proximity to abundant human resources as well as a good transport network.
“It is accessible to people who are needed for the project by virtue of its proximity to populous towns like Nkpor, Okpoko, Awkuzu, Oba, Onitsha, Nnewi and Asaba.
“It is near the airport in Asaba and that will make it accessible to people coming from outside Nigeria.
“Anytime it is completed and programmes are taking place there, we expect that a lot of people will attend from within and outside the country,” he added.

Aroh said the state government was keen about the project and was following it up with FIFA.
In his contribution, the Chairman, Transition Committee of Idemili North Council, Ralph Nnabuife, lauded FIFA and the government for locating the project in Ogidi.
“It will help us a lot to contain vices among youths as well as create jobs and commerce opportunities in the council area for traders and crafts men and women.
“As you know, football today is a big profession that has huge financial benefits, and we believe our youths will take advantage of the project to better their lives,” he said.

its more to do with lack of teamwork than the fault an individual payer that makes the team lose games.
