Wasit Province (Arabic: واسط Wāsit) (or Wasit Governorate) is a province in eastern Iraq. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning "middle," as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra. Its major cities include the capital Al Kut, Al-Hai, and the city Wasit. Prior to 1976 it was known as Kut Province.

The castle of the Kesra Arch is place of interest for the tourists who come to visit Iraq.
The castle lies to the south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad at 30 kms far from Baghdad center in the Qastfewn city in al-Mada'an region in the Province of al-Waaset.
Chounz November 10th, 2012, 07:49 PM I thought the Kesra Arch was in the south of Baghdad governorate.. not Wasit??

Just checked in Google Map..
Al Madain is part of Baghdad but quite close to Wasit which I think they confused together.

sheytanElKebir November 11th, 2012, 12:45 PM madain WAS part of Wasit until 1991. but when saddam redrew the boundaries to reduce the size of the southern "black" provinces, he gave parts of wasit to baghdad and parts to babil / diyala so now there is no direct border between wasit and baghdad anymore.
