I'm not a Malaysian, but Singaporean. My father was born in Johor, however.

Fell in love with Malaysia's architecture and development scene quite some time back. My favourite place is Malacca. There's no describing the feeling everytime I go there.

I am not an architect, neither am I a student of architecture, rather, I am a maritime student, so please.. be Gentle!! Don't really know the ettiquette of posting on this forum.. looking forward to advice from the senior forumers here.

It is called World Cup (coming in 2006) and European Championship (next one in 2008).

That would be "football" to the rest of the planet ma'am. I am still trying to figure out how gridiron get to be called football, when most of the time the ball is held by or thrown using the hand and only get kicked once in a while, while the ball gets kicked most often in "sockah". :D

Yup, I guess there will be a similar effect in US come Rosebowl? Except maybe since it will be held at a more sane time, there won't be any lack of sleep for Americans. It is much worse when the World Cup is held in South America.It causes a lot insomnia in Asia and the consumption of coffee shoots up. Oh yeah, I meant Super Bowl ma'am. That shows how much I know about American Football or gridiron.

The World Cup in Germany will begin on 9 June 2006 and the finals on 9 July 2006. 1 month of ecstasy and lots of coffee. Germany is GMT+1. Malaysia is GMT+8. So a match being played at 9.00 am or 3.00 pm would mean 4.00 pm or 10.00 pm in Malaysia (wunderbar!). But a match played at 8.00 pm means it will be 3.00 am in Malaysia (mein gott!), hence the zombie-like trance in the office 6 hours later! Do that for 1 month and Malaysian productivity goes down the drain!

Btw, there is another HUGE difference between global football and American football:

global football consists of two 45-minute periods with a break in between, meaning the event lasts <> 2 hours; American football consists of four 15-minute periods with some breaks and timeouts, but for some reason that hour plus of regulation play manages to extend into games that are 3+ hours long! :eek: That's because of commercials and the different players (offense & defense) constantly going onto & off the playing field. :D

Alas I suspect Germany is a VERY bad place for the World Cup to be held from your perspective. :( So bring on that strong dark brew, I guess. :)

Finally joined this forum after being a bystander for a few months.

I'm not a Malaysian, but Singaporean. My father was born in Johor, however.

Fell in love with Malaysia's architecture and development scene quite some time back. My favourite place is Malacca. There's no describing the feeling everytime I go there.

For me I actually enjoy the developments of Singapore, a lot more orderly development and a whole lot of thought has been put in on a larger scale, a nation wide island scale, I had a killer of a time living there.
