Paulo2004 December 23rd, 2004, 03:15 AM Imperador banned? Why?
SkylineTurbo December 23rd, 2004, 03:23 AM Oporto recieves alot of British and German tourists, 6 million might not be enough in the peak season within the next few years.
Paulo2004 December 27th, 2004, 03:27 AM Maybe, although I think it will only reach maximum capacity of 6m in ten years time.
Honestlad December 29th, 2004, 01:59 AM Wonderful change. I was there 3 years ago and I can see the dif it will be.

Anyway, the airport is already very well connected, highway wise. ;)

hkskyline December 7th, 2005, 02:15 AM Portuguese airport to expand its schedule of low-cost flights
LISBON, Dec 6 (AFP) - The international airport in Oporto, Portugal's second-largest city, will expand its schedule of low-cost flights in 2006 with new routes to Cologne, Paris, Liverpool and Stuttgart, officials said Tuesday.
Dublin-based budget airline Ryanair, Europe's largest low fares airline, will from February fly three times a week between Oporto and Liverpool in northern England and daily to the French capital, a company spokesman said.
The airline already offers flights between Oporto and London and Frankfurt and between Dublin and Faro, the capital of Portugal's southernmost province of Algarve.
Meanwhile German low-cost airline Hapag-Lloyd Express (HLX), a unit of TUI, Europe's biggest tourism firm, said it will from March fly three times a week between Oporto and the German cities of Cologne and Stuttgart.
It is the airline's first routes to and from Portugal.
Since 2004 Oporto's Francisco Sa Carneiro airport has increased the amount of incentives it offers airlines that set up direct routes from the northern city.
Passenger traffic at the airport between during the first 10 months of 2005 totaled 2.67 million, a 4.4 percent increase over the same period last year, figures from aiport management company ANA-Aeroportos de Portugal show.
It is Portugal's third-busiest airport in terms of passenger numbers after leader Lisbon and Faro.

To Porto!!! OBVIOUSLY not to Lisbon. Only when Lisbon's expansion works are concluded, may it receive low cost airlines.
40 million??? What are you trying to get at???
This should be enough to keep you thinking, since you've always denied it and affirmed it wouldn't happen:
"In the meantime, the government has pledged to keep Lisbon’s current airport operational for the foreseeable future, injecting 400 million euros of investment over the next few years to take account of increasing passenger flow."

exciter February 7th, 2006, 02:35 AM it's nothing new, the kind of modern airport you can find everywhere.
so dark inside
Filipe_Golias February 7th, 2006, 02:40 AM It's beautiful even if it's a copy of any other, which i kinda doubt... Portela's interiors are even darker, but it's an older airport.
I'm eager to be able to ride the subway so i can regularly visit this airport :)

I was under the impression that the Portuguese government have concluded studies and have agreed to go ahead with the NEW Lisbon International Airport and a suitable location has been selected??? Isnt the current Lisbon International Airport operating at its peak capacity of I believe 14 million? Please correct me if Im wrong....

fred_mendonca August 17th, 2006, 12:51 PM The new Lisbon Airport is expected to open by 2016. The current airport (Portela) has already exceeded his limit of 10 million pax/year. This year the Portela Airport should handle up to 11 million pax. The situation is very critical because the airport is working over his limits. Every year that comes new airlines want to open new routes to Lisbon and they can't due to lack of space. That's why they are going to inject 400 million euros to upgrade the terminal while the new airport is not ready.

Daniel_Portugal October 3rd, 2006, 07:05 AM today, Porto International Airport has been considered the best airport in Europe and one of the best of the World. This choice was made by people all over the world. Its a great new for the airport, for Porto, and for Portugal!
traveler October 4th, 2006, 01:56 AM That's wonderful news for the Porto airport, the best in Europe and one of the best in the World. I love Porto.
DonQui October 4th, 2006, 02:16 AM Just a question, who considers it "the best in Europe?" Which group/agency has posted a list of rankings?
:?
Rojo October 4th, 2006, 02:39 AM What is the Opoto`s population? It looks very nice, diferent to mexican`s airport, becuase a airport of 3`000,000 pax doesnt carry intercontiental flights. Just three airport have intercontiental flights, MEX, MTY and CUN. Tijuana (TIJ) carries almost 4`000,000 pax and the next month, Aeromexico will open a new flight to Tokyo (Narita). It will be our first intercontinetal flight. Thats the reason I like Europe. Excellent airport.
Daniel_Portugal October 4th, 2006, 05:41 AM ^^ Rojo ^^
Porto Urban Area around 1.7 million ppl. Porto region around 2million ppl
but like you know... an airport dont only serve the city. there are more than 6million people living less than 2hours by car. so the "area of influence" of this airport is +6million ppl. There also exists people from Lisbon (3hours by car) that come to Porto to fly in some flights. but the same thing happens in oposite way, there are people from porto flying in some lisbon's flights, too.
The airport is brand new and its in expansion till now. There will be 60 "mangas" (things that transport people from airplane to terminal and vice-versa), and the airport will be prepared to receive a maximum of 16million passengers per year when 100% completed.
nowadays there are 50 direct flights from this airport and will grow to more than 100 for sure. 12 of these direct flights cross the atlantic. ;)
here´s the map of direct flights: europe is full covered. if i want to fly to los angeles, tokyo or luanda, then i must fly in two planes. im curious about the next direct flights of porto international, aswell as the new low cost flights.
http://invictadesign.com/aeroporto/31.jpg
be happy! you have seen my fingers! it isnt for everyone dude! ehehehehe
Daniel_Portugal October 4th, 2006, 05:46 AM Just a question, who considers it "the best in Europe?" Which group/agency has posted a list of rankings?

Interview to people about their satisfaction of many airports all over the world. questions about many aspects of the airports like efficiency, etc. not any unique agency or something like that. general opinions in fact ;)
watchathinkabouthisairport? :D have you ever flied to Porto International? :)
Rojo October 6th, 2006, 04:14 AM It is a big difference between mexican economy and european economy. In Mexico, almost all aiports dont have "mangas", we dont have 60 positions for a city that the population isnt over the 2 million. The biggest aiport in Mexico is Mexico City, I think with 50 positions plus the new terminal with 24 more, but it is the 2nd biggest city of the world. Tijuana has just 16 positions (12 of 16 are "mangas"), the population in all the metropolitan zone is almost 2 million, we carry 2 million plus San Diego, US, because they dont have flights to Mexico and also, all the Baja California state. Awesome and good for you.
You should visit the Mexican`s thread, you will find a thread for the more importants airports of Mexico, the airport is in each city. Maybe you can understand, portugues is similar to spanish.

Daniel_Portugal October 8th, 2006, 06:32 AM NEPHASTO, i also think dificult to have 60. but i read that somewhere. like you now, each "manga" have two entrances. maybe its only 30 "mangas", each one with two entrances. the next time i'll go to airport i'll ask them (if you dont ask before, you're living nearer than me :D uhuhuhuhu)
ROJO. yeah i know in Mexico is different. but there something you might know... Portugal population distribution and quantity of cities are totally different from Mexico. In Portugal you find many, and many, and many small and medium sized cities and towns everywhere. you have the two main urban centres of porto and lisbon, but all the country is covered with so many towns. In Mexico is different. you have such big metropolis and then there exists a loooooot of square km of nothing where no one lives. So, besides Porto region (+- 2million ppl living there), this airport servs more population out of the region, this airport serves population of regions that have NO airport. (including some towns at north of spain). basicaly, there are more than 7million people living less that 2 hours by car, to the airport. this airport influence area is +- a area where 7million people lives. its why the airport is so "wow" we only have 3 international airports in continental Portugal, and 2 more in portuguese islands of madeira and azores ;)

Rojo October 20th, 2006, 04:36 AM Does it has grass on the railways???
Is it common in Europe?
Daniel_Portugal October 20th, 2006, 03:36 PM yes it is, on above ground lines. they construct the lines, and then roll over a carpet of grass in the left, middle and rigth side of the lines. when the lines go underground ofcourse there isn't grass :D
its a good way to make the cities more green, and its also awesome to see the metro sliding on a green carpet :D
