I thought I'd start a thread on people just posting lots of pictures of Iceland's capitol city of over 100,000 people. It's very pretty, but unique in many ways, nothing like the rest of Europe's cities.

So just post pics! here are some good ones I have

Great pictures. Reykjavik looks very cold and barren without any trees. Is it windy there?

I really liked the mountains in the background, they look very similar to those on Svalbard. I have never been on either Iceland or Svalbard, but would definitely like to go to those parts of Scandinavia one day.

The setting is jawdropping (as seen in the first and last picture). I also like that big church. It's truly a great landmark, since there are not many tall buildings.

I want to go to Icelaaand! It´s an incredible city, very tolerant with gays :)

Best wishes from Valladolid, SPAIN.

Reykjavik looks like a very spread-out city. No high-rises as I can see from the pictures above. Do you have any pictures of "down-town" Reykjavik?

Looks a bit cold and windy, just like good old Tromsø :D

yes, iceland is a glorious country. i hear you can walk around reyjkavik and often bump into top politicians and famous icelandic people. that must be weird - walking into a book shop and seeing bjork or whatever!!

talking of svalbard - does anyone know more about that place? i know it's even more extreme than iceland for weather conditions. could someone post some pictures of it here or on a new thread? i would love to read more about svalbard. what is svalbards capitol city? and do many people live there?

Reykjavik is a beautiful city with beautiful surroundings, especally during the winters.

@ Deep Sea Buildings, i can post a thread about Svalbard in the Skybar subforum here this week end if you want to.

I have a question!

Since it is a quite small city, but as well a capital and the most important city of the country, how's the nightlife over there? And also do you have those fancy stores like in most of the big cities?

the nightlife in reykjavik is fucking insane, they are actually famous in europe for that. they stay out partying until the late hours of the morning. many visitors are shocked about the crazy partying, clubs, bar life that they have. and of course they have all the fancy stores like the rest of europe, but no HandM!!! (despicable hehe) iceland is in a huge economic boom right now, they just bought up all the magasin stores in scandinavia which is like, Nordstrom's in the USA or eaton's in canada
