Mr. T November 26th, 2004, 10:56 PM What do you mean by"more inviting" can you expand on that. Thanks. braykov1988 November 26th, 2004, 11:16 PM It's out of the question, everyone will vote for athens, it's a popular tourist destination. I, as a BUlgarian felt obliged to vote for Sofja. The question here is more like Sofia or Bucharest. Well, I'm a little prejudiced since I live in Sofia, but IMO: Sofia is similar to Bucharest in the sence of maintenance, they are both not exactly clean. read uninviting. as for architecture it is closer to belgrade. bucharest could be considered more interesting as it has a huge collection of megalomaniac stalinist buildings (so megalomaniac they were finnished in the 80's), but sofia has Vitosha, a wonderful mountain right near it, so it's more of a choice for nature-lovers. It's terribly underrated and unknown. so here are some pics http://www.pbase.com/ngruev/sofia LEAFS FAN November 26th, 2004, 11:43 PM It's out of the question, everyone will vote for athens, it's a popular tourist destination. Make your polls of Asiatic cities. :hilarious:hilarious:hilarious take your pills friend, relax....no big deal!!:hilarious wanton6 November 27th, 2004, 02:14 AM What do you mean by"more inviting" can you expand on that. Thanks. it is not very complicated, what I ve tried to mean is that which city has more to offer?if you were travelling which city would you like to visit first?? Btw,beautiful athens pics( I know Athens is a more popular tourist destination than Bucharest and Sofia, statistics proove this but there may be some other beautiful cities(like Bucharest,Sofia) which are not discovered widely yet by tourists, maybe this poll is a chance to learn more about them...thank you guys for voting... Mr. T November 27th, 2004, 02:26 AM ^^Thanks for explaining. braykov1988 November 27th, 2004, 11:26 AM another link of sofia http://www.pbase.com/ngruev/sofia2 @leafs fan: yeah, it's a subway line, we have about 10km of subway (10 stations) in use and 3 more under construction. Taha November 27th, 2004, 10:19 PM Ofcourse Athens is more inviting city. ;) :cucumber: MIMICA November 28th, 2004, 09:06 AM I voted for Athens, but now I am getting second doubts. Mabye Sofia was a better choice...Well, anyway's: They all are very nice choices and it was a struggle. gm2263 November 28th, 2004, 12:12 PM I voted for Athens but according to many of my friends Bucharest is also a jewel. Sophia is also nice but I agree that Athens overall IS more inviting as a city now. However, when Romania and Bulgaria become members of the EU and reach this standard, they will certainly be amongst the "places to be" in the new Europe. These cities have excellent architecture that cannot be easily overlooked for the sake of polished image. Too good in fact :) wanton6 November 28th, 2004, 03:28 PM thank you guys for your participations....:cheers1: Gatis December 29th, 2004, 04:14 PM Athens. Acropolis+history alone are worth a lot! ch1le December 30th, 2004, 04:35 PM i dont like athens...sorry. but it seems like full of 2 storey white mud brick houses... :( Christos7 December 30th, 2004, 06:39 PM Ch1le, does this look like 2 story white mud buildings? I can keep posting more pics of you like. Look Athens does have alot of those concrete apartment buildings, but it;s only one part of Athens. People need to explore more of the city. http://www.nyloo.com/ast/cov/NN/NNFrissirasMuseum4_b.jpg http://www.nyloo.com/ast/cov/NA/NAthensArchitecture_b.jpg http://www.nyloo.com/ast/cov/NA/NAthBenakiMuseum2_b.jpg http://www.nyloo.com/ast/cov/NK/NKifissia0001_b.jpg http://www.nyloo.com/ast/cov/At/AthensExarhia3_b.jpg http://www.nyloo.com/ast/cov/NA/NAthPlaka3_b.jpg http://www.nyloo.com/ast/cov/NN/NNAthensElectraPalace0002_b.jpg http://www.nyloo.com/ast/cov/At/AthensExarhia4_b.jpg http://www.nyloo.com/ast/cov/NA/NAthensCurrencyMuseum5_b.jpg http://www.nyloo.com/ast/cov/NA/NAthTechnopolis2_b.jpg http://www.nyloo.com/ast/cov/NA/NAthensPsyrri1_b.jpg http://www.nyloo.com/ast/cov/NK/NKifissia0012_b.jpg http://www.astynet.gr/photos/b_Koumound11.jpg http://www.olahansson.com/spetses/images/athens%20(1).jpg http://www.nyloo.com/ast/cov/NA/NAthArceologicalMuseum1_b.jpg http://www.pbase.com/image/8196615.jpg http://www.pbase.com/image/30890639.jpg http://www.pbase.com/image/30089280.jpg http://www.pbase.com/image/17601335.jpg http://www.pbase.com/image/33620391.jpg http://www.pbase.com/image/33620403.jpg http://www.nyloo.com/ast/cov/NO/NOmonia6_b.jpg http://www.astynet.gr/photos/b_kolok-f4.jpg http://www.astynet.gr/photos/b_panos2.jpg http://www.astynet.gr/photos/b_aiolou-4.jpg http://www.nyloo.com/ast/cov/NA/NAthPsiriDistrict2_b.jpg http://www.nyloo.com/ast/cov/NK/NKifissiaP0002_b.jpg http://www.greecead.com/gadhome/athensphotos/monument-in-plaka.jpg http://www.greecead.com/gadhome/athensphotos/tower-of-the-winds-in-plaka.jpg http://www.greecead.com/gadhome/athensphotos/metropolis-of-athens.jpg MIMICA December 31st, 2004, 05:21 AM Athens! :) Arpels February 4th, 2005, 09:36 PM Athens :) Ozcan February 5th, 2005, 08:35 PM Atina (is in Turkish:D) coaster February 23rd, 2005, 07:15 AM Athens MIMICA February 25th, 2005, 09:27 AM of course athens would win this poll. my predictions for romania and bulgaria are very optimistic, since they are both sleeping giants. once things get going, both countries are going to accomplish some very nice things. :) wheezer February 26th, 2005, 06:22 PM Athens Paolo February 26th, 2005, 07:29 PM Bucharest: http://www.alcor.com.au/gabrield/photography/photos/bucharest/piata_universitatii.jpg http://www.alcor.com.au/gabrield/photography/photos/bucharest/arcul_de_Triumf.jpg http://www.alcor.com.au/gabrield/photography/photos/bucharest/ateneul_roman.jpg http://www.alcor.com.au/gabrield/photography/photos/bucharest/CEC-ul.jpg http://www.europa.kawiarenka.pl/gfx/bukareszt12.jpg http://www.outdoorholiday.com/images/Bucharest%20by%20night.jpg http://thor.info.uaic.ro/~busaco/photos/may2003/buc36.jpg Paolo February 26th, 2005, 07:34 PM http://www.pbase.com/poppieboy/image/1600269 http://www.pbase.com/poppieboy/image/1600994 http://www.unc.edu/depts/slavic/images/Romania-Bucharest.jpg http://www.ukrrom.com/imag/bucharest6.jpg http://adrianbaras.net/romania/Bucharest/DSC02153.jpg http://adrianbaras.net/romania/Bucharest/DSC02148.jpg http://misheli.image.pbase.com/u6/poppieboy/large/1601303.VoormaligpaleisCeaucescuIII.jpg http://sabin.ro/sabinnew/albun43/IMG_9705edit.sized.jpg Bass February 26th, 2005, 07:58 PM I won't vote, because I have never been to Sofia or Bucharest, and besides that I'm a big fan of Greece and Athens, of the Greek culture and the joie de vivre. So I'm biased. chicagogeorge February 28th, 2005, 04:17 AM All three cities are beautiful in their own way. Saying that..... Sofia and Bucharest are comparable cities in the Balkan peninsula. Athens however is further south. It has a different climate, geography, culture (to a certain degree), and the architecture is uniquely mediterranean. Athens would be better compared with Naples, Izmir, TelAviv, and possibly Rome, Madrid, Marsailes.
