I think it is a long time that somebody posted any update for Vilnius, thus I'll post some photos of mine that were made today.

BCC2 and Victoria Tower

The BCC2 construction has started just couple weeks ago, thus nothing interesting is on-going there so far.

Helios Tower

This tower is currently the tallest U/C in city. The construction started in this summer, so now you can already see its shape.

Gate of Vilnius

Only 2nd floor is now being constructed, but the whole plot is quite big to make the works slower. Note that they are going to extend the tunnel upon which there will be built an 18-floorer.

Vyrokas apartments

It's seems like somebdoy decided to make the building taller. This is showed by some additional semi-floors that are being constructed upon one. For now it's already 15th floor is being constructed.

Nobody is allowed to build buildings taller than 12 stories /42 meters here in Oslo. What are the regulations like in Vilnius? Are people allowed to build as tall as they want, at least in some parts of the city?

@_keen_ welcome to the forums, but why do you think they are uninteresting? ;)

@NiceGuys Of course there is a regulation, but different for a different part of the city. Of course, the regulation can be usually "adjusted" ;)

That's not a good thing :(.
Are there no exceptions? So it's impossible to get approved anything taller than 12floors/42meters?

They have made an exception for the Bjørvika-area, where they have approved two 16-story buildings.

I think that the 12-story rule is completely ridiculous, especially because the real estate prices would make it possible for Oslo to obtain a beautiful skyline in just a few years. There are also lots of people living on the countryside that really wants to move to Oslo, but are prevented to do so because of the lack of cheap housing downtown.

to sdes: there are a lot of regulations (it can't be the other way). This how it works: in fast developing areas the price for land is much higher then new, unestablished companies and business people can afford. So, in order, to prevent decrease in development of an area, local governing institutions are forced to decrease regulations and even to enforce new solutions. Therefore there are a lot of high-rises in south east asia but very little in scandinavia (because economy there grew gradually with no interuptions or delays).

to mantaz: Construction site overview is great, but close ups are not... after all it takes time to download every picture...

wow, Vilnius seems to be one of the greatest construction stite in Europe. It is quite remarkable if we take number of inhabitants into consideration!!!

Vyrokas tower is very nice!!!
