Both are quite rich of social and cultural activities.

i love both cities, but i votet for izmir because the sea ;)

I vote for Ankara, because Ankara is much more planned than Izmir though Izmir is getting better.
For some reason I find Ankara more appealing and attractive.

i know ankara is very modern, tidy and developed city. but i prefer izmir:)

Ankara have better parks, better city plan but Izmir is more colorful, plus it's very close to favorite holiday towns like Bodrum, Çeşme, Marmaris vs...

Izmir

Although Ankara seems to have better and more impressive structures, due to the fact that it was built from the very beginning as an administrative centre, Izmir has the joy of life since it is a mediterranean metropolis and a vibrant city too.

However, Ankara has a good number of beautiful and organised constructions, including the Prime Ministry towers and the Dikman Valley - Kankaya (if I remember correctly) towers whose neighbourhood is amongst my favourite residential ones in Turkey, compared only with the Bahcesehir Residenses in Istanbul.

But Izmir is the winner the poor me says...
