Michigan Avenue, close to the Roosvelt Station: This one is a bad pic, if you want I can remove it. I was rushing to cross the street and taking the pic. :D

Wow, Central Station is really starting to develop a presence in the skyline. When I lived in Chicago in the fall of 2002, there was all but 1-2 highrises (one of them still u/c) there. Whad'ya guys think?

too bad most of them are beyond hideously ugly. hopefully the new crop U/C right now and the proposed stuff will prove to be more architecturally tolerable, if not outright good (1 museum park, hint, hint).

Excellent pics! In the first pic, the white builing that is under construction with what looks like an orangish construction elvator on the outside (next to the browish rectangular building is my future home. The Michigan Ave. Towers!
Well done!

Interesting point, Sharptent (and Steely Dan!)

It will be quite fun to watch 2 whole highrise neighborhoods arise exactly opposite eachother from Grant Park. It's like Chicago is getting 2 new Streetervilles. One, the south version (Central Station), already farther along with a few boring looking buildings, but more connected to the south loop. The other one (LSE), likely to have better architecture, is a bit of an isolated urban cul-de-sac but, most assuredly, is guaranteed to become an absolutely gorgeous highrise neighborhood (just look at the friggin' park!)

I did not like the thigs I saw. I am sorry pictures are not good, because I have a big and good camera, I was afraid to be robbed in the train.

Scared to be robbed on the El in Downtown Chicago? I'm sure its happened, but I've never seen a crime commited in front of me on the El, and I've definitely brough several valueable things with me aboard

Edit: The thread in question: http://skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=156792

Yeah I wouldn't worry about being robbed on a downtown El line. Maybe if you get off the Green Line in the wrong neighborhood, but not downtown. The police would be there before the guy left the station.

Ever since I was a kid I would ride the brown line and the blue line from the North Side where I lived all the way down to White Sox park. Many time alone. I never saw any type of mugging or roberry. Although I did see a couple of fights on the el between sox and cubs fans. One time I saw a huge brawl between some gangbangers. That was 15 years ago though. Crime is down in Chicago, but it will be hard to get our gangster reputation to fade away. My relatives in Greece always associate Chicago with Al Capone, gangs and killing. Some of them won't even visit because of this reason!

This isn't 1983 anymore.... Times have changed

While I wouldn't recomend pulling out your laptop on the "L" at midnight, There is generally very little to be worried about. I had those same preconceived notions about the trains in Chicago when I was preparing to move here in 1999. I thought that it was much more dangerous than it turned out to be. Yes, crime does happen on the train, but given that you are more likely to be mugged on the street in the Gold Coast or Lincoln Park, than you are on a train car, I don't think there is any cause for worry.

Guys please, do not get me wrong,

All my friends here are American except one Dutch and one Turkish.

With my friends in Euroscrapers I just wanted to discuss something.

What did I say there? Strongest country of the world deserves BETTER! Better Architecture, better living, beautiful scenery.

I removed those pictures because people were using them for anti-American purposes everywhere. :D

For the robbing case. I think I suspect too much, yes you are right. But I mean I am afraid everywhere, in London, in Istanbul, In Chicago, in my hometown Columbus OH. It is my nature, I do not open my wallet in public, I do not eat in streets, etc...

Lets discuss those in Euroscrapers OK, lets leave this topic, this topic represents Chicago, not criticizes.

But I removed thoise pictures because people were using them with a bad attitude everywhere not only in skyscrapers.

I can not visit here so often sorry, I will also post the skyline of Columbus as soon as possible.

Sorry for the inconvenience guys but I didn' t really expected that some will take this as an offence. :D

And for Qwerty, mate, Turkey and USA are far more different countries. One is the strongest the other is one of the weakest. I saw Europe, it was beautiful. I think USa should be more and more beautiful.

Wow, the water in the great lakes is real pretty. It's kinda like your in Florida just without the horrible humidity.

In the summer humidity can be real bad. But it's not the humidity that gets me, it's the stupidity! :)

I should take more pictures of Chicago this spring. Actually it is my plan, I am waiting for the trees to be green again and sun shine better. I will take pictures of Columbus downtown these days, but Upper Arlington, Dublin especially Sciato river is really impressive in springs... I will post lots of pictures of Columbus Ohio

I am so confused. Did you actually look at the pictures you took? What better architecture do you expect? What better living conditions (save for health-care and education concerns)? What better scenery?

Chicago is the home of beautiful modern architecture, is an amazing place to live and raise children, and is home to one of the most beautiful urban settings in the World. What more do you want!?

its a cover up, so that he could ridicule the city to his European friends. Whatever, one great thing about being a Chicagoan is that we dont have to care what people like him think about the city. Its grand on a level that only New York can achieve. Our historic towering architecture can never be replicated, and because of that, New York and Chicago will remain as the only cities in the world that have a full chronicle of skyscraper history, positions that can never be challenged, no matter how many bland concrete cookie cutter towers cities across the world put up.
