Emaar Middle East, the joint venture between Dubai-based Emmar Properties and Saudi Arabia's Al Oula, plans a residential project in Bahrain in partnership with a local company.
Ayedh Farhan Al Gahtani, president of Al Oula, declined to give further details of this project, saying only that "it will be done with a Bahraini partner".
The joint venture entity is also expected to build 12 residential units in various parts of Saudi Arabia. The residential units will be divided between the Eastern province, Riyadh and Jeddah which is experiencing a construction boom, a report said.
Responding to queries on Saudi law against foreign ownership affecting the company's projects in the kingdom, he said: "The Saudi Arabian real estate market is the biggest in the Middle East. It grows by 3.8 per cent annually, and almost 70 per cent of Saudis do not own homes."
