View Full Version : Night Vilnius by John
John December 4th, 2004, 11:44 PM The last night photos from me in 2004 (I know how bored you are to see the same angles again and again and write everytime "nice pics" or smth :D), but I had to do it. For the last time this year.
No descriptions because nothing extraordinary or unknown here, everything was seen many times before, just now with a cosy nightish feeling, enjoy :)

Estboy December 5th, 2004, 12:43 AM amazing shots John...
Vilnius is like 1/2 Paris
and 1/2 Warszawa...
And they make a superb combination...
blimey December 5th, 2004, 12:54 AM I'd disagree with 1/2 Paris and 1/2 Warsaw statement. Vilnius is just 2/2 Vilnius....
But photos are great nonetheless.
Thanks for the thread.
Gatis December 5th, 2004, 12:59 AM Your skills, @John, are improving!!! The picture with girls is just something extraordinary - they would love to see that picture!
John December 5th, 2004, 01:15 AM Thanks alot guys!
Vilnius is like Vilnius, I like the way it is. The 1/2 Paris + 1/2 Warsaw is not very correct but the idea of old and new on the opposite bank of the river was a good idea.
@Gatis
oh thanks, I'm trying to do my best although my camera doesn't allow me to do this, I need a new one badly, but nonetheless photographing at night is a great feling and fun, believe me.
And I already sent the photo to one of those girls, she said it was really fun
And it is really fun to go to a photo-walk at dark, people are somewhat more relaxed, friendly and happy at wekend nights :)
Mantas December 5th, 2004, 01:19 AM Fina John. Now everybody thinks that Vilnius is clean, beautiful and modern

It's still nothing compared with bustling and charming Kaliningrad!

Those photos are same that I made one month ago...
PornStar December 6th, 2004, 12:09 AM Amazing 10/10+ photos, John!
I'd say Vilnius looks alittle like some mini Hong-Kong(the hills, scrapers)+Prague(the old stuff), but just much better
On the other hand I'm a little surprised these amazing photos get so little replies from the other Scandinavian/Baltic fellas watching these pix...
But don't worry John, imho they're all absolutely jealous of Vilnius being the most beautiful city in the region! Yeah I'm not afraid to say that
btw, the highrise in the centre of the pic has AMAZINGLY cool illuminations!!!!!

John December 6th, 2004, 12:25 AM Thanks, Pornie, your opinion is as always strict, provocative and unexpected :D
I think Vilnius would need a couple more hundreds of Europa Towers to look even like a mini Hong Kong but still those few we've got look very cool at night, I'm trying to imagine how it's gonna look after few more known projects are realised there (Registru centras and few others which we know not much about). Anyway they look better in reality than in the photos, in fact it was the first time I got to the top of the castle by night and the feeling up there is :okay:
designwise December 6th, 2004, 12:37 AM PS, always mr. provocative, aren't we ?
Awesome pics Jonas !!!!!!!!!!! You are a very talented photographer. The ones from Gediminas Avenue are nice & I love the cathedrals. That gothic one is very cool. :okay:
blimey December 6th, 2004, 03:25 PM hahaha pornie :okay:
Menino de Sampa December 7th, 2004, 12:27 AM The streets look very nice! :)
Janis_LV December 7th, 2004, 02:14 PM Wonderful pics. It leave a very good imprssiona about Vilnius.
Schroedinger's Cat December 11th, 2004, 12:11 PM Vilnius is like 1/2 Paris
and 1/2 Warszawa...
And they make a superb combination...
I don't understand this comparison
Anyway, very nice pictures :okay:
ch1le December 11th, 2004, 02:06 PM /\ Scrapers, old town, so on :)
Edd December 11th, 2004, 02:14 PM I think this is closest to the truth:
1. Vilnius is 1/1 Vilnius.
2. Warsaw is 1/2 Vilnius (new parts and commies).
3. Prague is 1/2 Vilnius (old town).
:angel1:
Schroedinger's Cat December 11th, 2004, 02:26 PM /\ Scrapers, old town, so on :)
Yest but according to me it's still wrong. Paris (which is really a huge city) with its "old town" and La Defense is uncomparable with Vilnius.
ch1le December 11th, 2004, 02:50 PM Mikael. lol...
John December 11th, 2004, 02:51 PM Talking about Prague, I think they're also creating a high rise quarter somewhere outside the city center. It would be nice if somebody could find some up-to-date pictures :)
ch1le December 11th, 2004, 03:07 PM What? are they... They have a lot of power to do that, since a countrie of 10 million has a big market!
Schroedinger's Cat December 11th, 2004, 03:12 PM Mikael. lol...
sorry, too many threads about Paris I've been browsing lately
John December 11th, 2004, 03:22 PM Here's Prague's highrises (not sure how old this photo is), they've got some proposals of 40 storey towers, it's also unclear whether they'll be built next to these or somewhere else
http://www.volny.cz/zdenek.bezouska/locality/views/d2.JPG
ch1le December 11th, 2004, 03:43 PM well, atm we have more & taller highrises then they do... but they certainly have potential... mby they were afraid scraper would remove the "old town charm", as we did in.. -2001. If Praegu gets scrapers, then nimby's wont have anything to say like: Well, praegu is a big city, yet doesnt have scrapers, Paris is a huge city - no scrapers (LOL, they dont know La defense) and so on :)
well, emporis is very quiet about it, im sure when construction is Prague start well get more Czech's to SSC... atm there arent many :(
John December 11th, 2004, 04:24 PM Prague could easily kick ass of any city in the region in terms of skyscrapers but I believe they're also facing some opposition. Anyway I wish Prague would become one of THE skyscrapercities in Europe, they CAN do it.
John December 15th, 2004, 05:55 PM A few pictures taken today from the newly opened parking of "Akropolis" shopping center. As for the parking the views are not that bad
