what happens if you want to follow a thread but it gets lost after pages of other threads? is there a provision to kind of 'bookmark' threads (while not actually adding it to favourites) that you're interested in following (e.g. project threads etc)?

Yup, it's called "subscribing" to a thread. Go to the "Thread Tools" tab above each thread and click "Subscribe to this Thread."

Then when you log in, go to your user cp and the thread will show up there.
