I can't beleive that...It was more green before.It is also known as Green Giresun..I guess it is more stony now...Giresun Island is the only biggest Island..It is known as the home of Amazon women who have lived centuries ago in the island.There is also an ancient temple ruin in the island. How do I know these?Well,I have spent 18 years there.. :wink2:

There is no misunderstanding..You may ask any person who is from Giresun.I have lived there and I know if you want here are some resources.

This one and only island along the whole south coast of the Black Sea is a place of mystic appearance. Even today cultic rites are performed there, it seems that there is a continuity from the Bronze Age till today. It was the sacred island of the Amazons, in the Middle Ages there has been a Byzantine monastery, and today it is a place of pre-islamic rites. There is the mystic Stone of Hamza where wishes shall become true, and every year there is a festival which is dominated by women.

Just outside the harbor, is Giresun Island which also carries remains from the earliest times. The ruins of a temple, built by the Amazons to whom the island is said to have belonged, can be seen here in addition to a Byzantine Monastery.

Giresun was known to the ancient Greeks as Choerades or Pharnacia and to the Romans as Kerasous or Cerasus. Giresun's history goes back to the 2nd century BCE, when it was founded by Greek colonists from Sinope. Old Giresun lies on a peninsula dominated by a Byzantine fortress.
