From the cities on the connection screen it looks like a lot of Australians use Hong Kong as a connection to Europe. Australia is basically the only continent that you can't reach on a nonstop flight from western Europe...yet.

Actually, the kangaroo route via Hong Kong is only starting to take off recently. Last Wednesday, Virgin Atlantic launched their first ever London - Sydney service via Hong Kong. Perhaps more airlines will fly through Hong Kong to Down Under in the future. Virgin will consider using the A380 for that route in the future.

This flight report was provided by a Hong Kong student studying in Australia. There are quite a number of Hong Kong students in Australia, the UK, and the US. I see flight reports from them quite often.

Singapore's a bigger hub than Hong Kong for Australia, along with Hong Kong, Dubai is also emerging (Melb/Syd can fly direct to Dubai and onto Europe)

Hong Kong is only starting to emerge as the stopover point for kangaroo flights. Virgin Atlantic recently began flying to Australia from London via Hong Kong following a new UK-HK air services agreement and Qantas is expected to starting flying to the UK via Hong Kong soon under the new Australia-HK air services agreement.

Cathay Pacific flights use check-in area A in the Sydney International Airport.

http://images.fotopic.net/yaayqz.jpg
There are 4 check-in lines for the flight. First/Business/Economy Class and a special line for Internet Check-in and any passengers requiring special assistance. Since I’ve checked in online, I use the third line.
