great views steve! thanks finally pix of Q1s ground area.
did you stay in approx lv12 of Peninsula and lev12 of Centrepoint?
in this pic, the little blue bldg in centre is Kinabool, the first scraper on the coast in 1959! also brick one to its left is Paradise centre, the tallest in 1965.

Level 12 @ Peninsula & Level 16 at Centrepoint.
And to be honest, Q1 did not impress me. It looks like an office tower not an apartment tower. And one other thing, most of the apartment towers built prior to 1995 look very sad. There are a few opposite the casino that look like they belong in Hong Kong!

I think I prefer the cladding to open balconies.
What do you mean by the ones near the casino belong in Hong Kong? I can sort of understand with the Grand Mecure, but not with the Phonecian, Aria, Broadbeach on the Park ect.

Gold Coast towers are nothing like the sardine apartment towers of hong kong. You should give the place some credit you know, its not a very big city and not very old. Many of the towers are designed for holidaymakers so try to understand the resort feel (or in your terminology "fake and plastic"). When you visit another city you try to take advantage of its best offerings, there are plenty of activities you could have done that you would not be able to do in Melbourne. I hope you at least had a relaxing time...anyway for an unhappy tourist you did take some pretty good shots of the place. :)

That's true. We don't have the density of Hong Kong.
