There are loads of photos here, but please even if you have a slow speed, try and wait for them to load. This place is actually so beautiful that it hurts just looking at it. As you can also see, there are some Ottoman period structures that have been preserved in good condition.
Enjoy the photos.

Beautiful thread, Olympiad :okay:
is it a mosque that appear in most of the pictures?
There are two Mosques that appear in the thread:
On the north side of the Kastro (or as it is referred sometimes with its Turkish name, the Its kale) there is the Aslan Tzami, a Turkish mosque that many believe was buit on top of the Christian church of St. John the Baptist. It is visible from everywhere in the city and it is probable the most recognisable landmark of Ioannina.
A little bit further the second mosque of the city, the Fetihe Tzami, and next to it the small Byzantine Museum in which some of the most exquisite jewellery made by the famous local artists is exhibited.
Ioannina is also the home of Ali Pasha.

Trully amazin place! It is close to the Albanian southern coast so I will definitely visit it if I happen to visit any other place close by this summer.
It is great to see how Greece has been able to preserve Ioanina natural beauty with some really nice historical architecture. Unfortunatelly Albania lost most religious inspired architecture during the communism and a lot of vegetation during the first years of capitalism.
Anyways back to Ioanina,
One thing I love about Greece traditional housing architecture is the dominance of white in many facades and the way it relates to the blu the can be easily found anywhere on the place. Nice thread.

Very true indeed
The Greek mainland outside of the main cities of Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra, Volos is very wooded indeed. Greece, even today with its forest areas reduced to appox 48 % of landmass still manages to have one of the highest plant biodiversty zones in Europe.

A little bit off-topic, but since we started about forests, Ioannina is one of the perfectures with the largest percentage of forests:

Να είστε προσεκτικοί με την απόσπαση τόσου πολύ μουσουλμάνικες φωτογραφίες επειδή επιτρέπετε στον ισλαμικό-εθνικισμό και τους ανθρώπους να επιτεθούν σε αυτό το φόρουμ. Αλβανικοί και τουρκικοί μουσουλμάνοι δεν τοποθετούν τις εικόνες των εκκλησιών. Σας μισούν. Γιατί είστε τόσο αφελείς;
If you want to attract Turkish and Albanian nationalists to wreck the forum then continue to post pictures that bait them .It is a very simple concept to understand and doesn't require above average intelligence.Good luck anyway....I don't post here and I only lurk once every 3 months. Alessandrina, do you still care? I've stayed there, it was during the summer and there was an overwhealming stench coming from the town's dumping ground that seems to be nearby. Other than that it's alright. And what 'facilities' anyway?

STOP it here! The next one gets an infraction..
One is already in the brig, consider it more thoroughly the next time you will try to hijack a thread in Hellenic Agora. No irrelevant disccussion will be allowed here. You can continue in symposium.

You are right Metro. Let's go back to the main subject of the thread, let's see a few more pictures of Ioannina (most of them are night shots).

Update*-question
Since some months now i saw this awesome pic of Ioannina(near the airport):
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/4937/io1xz2.jpg
and i was pleasantly surprised with the pleasant architecture of the residences,i find them very attractive and i really love the blend of red and black-grey roofs!.....so i thought that was just a random place in Ioannina but it seems i was wrong...check this picture(near the University):

Its nice but i dont get it , In Greece even the new suburbs look cheap i dont know why it must be the materials or they way they build it just looks like miniature polikatikees although theese in Ioaninna are good they still build theese huge balconys that makes it look bad on some of them , and they build totally random one building looks west the one next to it east the other north it just looks messy and not organized at all

To be blunt, GET LOST TROLL!
Why are we the only Balkan forum which has to put up with this bullshit?
The moment a Greek dares go post in one of their forums, he/she is brigged, banned, and now restricted from ever posting in their again.
Fucking pathetic that we are supposed to put up with all this bullshit.
