View Full Version : Mega Metro Manila Malls
thomasian June 19th, 2007, 03:39 PM Oh yeah ito pala ang parking building na magdadagdag ng at least 800 slots to the parking facilities in Ayala Center
Well not really "magdadagdag", it's actually parking space na "ipapalit" sa Park Square 2 which will be leved for Fairmont.
kennethologist June 19th, 2007, 06:36 PM Tingnan mo yung Alabang Town Center, Ayala Center Cebu at Ayala Center (Makati) redevelopment. Hintayin nalang siguro natin ang sa Market! Market! at TriNoma :hahaha:
Ayala is all about aesthetics and brand equity... that's what i like about them. i just wish tignan naman nila yung sense and functionality... dun sila natatalo ng SM
Bukas na ba ang supermarket sa TriNoma? Ang aga mo namang nagjudge, hindi pa nga siya fully functional and operational eh ;)
The best parking building/basement parking for me is Ayala Center Cebu's pero 'di ko na ieexpound kasi nasa maling thread ako :D
Trinoma's hypermarket is located right behind the large "Trinoma" stage... (yung may white walls) that area up to the top levels will house landmark.. there you'll find a bidirectional gate, the only easy access from the future hyperrmarket to the outside world... (may sinages na kasi eh)
pinakamagandang parking ay sa SM Fairview... kasi wala talaga silang parking building, hehe
super luwag
believe it or not, nakaka-experience ng "full parking" ang open parking ng SM Fairview... lalo na on peak seasons... they also have the largest parking space for motorcycles (almost a city block wide) ive seen on an SM.
But yung open parking nila are mostly shaded by numerous trees at malawak din and surrounds the mall .
Baka kapag nag-expand na lang in the future ang mall saka lang sila gagawa ng multi-level parking building , because for sure ma-ooccupy ng expansion ang open field parking spaces they currently have.
Sinjin P. June 20th, 2007, 04:16 AM Well not really "magdadagdag", it's actually parking space na "ipapalit" sa Park Square 2 which will be leved for Fairmont.
Well it's dagdag-bawas, or rather bawas-dagdag

Yeah I forgot to mention Festival Supermall, may covered walkways sa lahat ng areas ng open parking. Okay din 'yung multi-level parking nila pero what I don't like is wala silang elevators to the ground level so kailangan mong magstairs :bash:
Ayala is all about aesthetics and brand equity... that's what i like about them. i just wish tignan naman nila yung sense and functionality... dun sila natatalo ng SM
Cebu Holdings Inc. (affiliate of Ayala Land that manages Ayala Center Cebu) should take over the management of the Ayala Malls. Hindi talaga ako maubusan ng magagandang masasabi tungkol sa Ayala Center Cebu. Nandito lahat, sense, functionality, aesthetics, nature, etc.
Waldenstrom June 20th, 2007, 08:05 AM Could you please explain what you mean about sense and functionality? I think meron namang ganun ang Ayala Malls. More on high end ang kine-cater ng Ayala kaya siguro sila natatalo ng SM.

Meron nga naman. Siguro depende na rin 'yon sa individual preferences and priorities or whatever :D

kennethologist June 24th, 2007, 07:36 AM My TriNoma pics, may digicam na ako!!! wohooo!!!!
the colors were kinda washed and the sky was kinda overexposed... pero i understand... :) mahirap talaga kumuha pag cloudy....
photoshop effect lang siguro yung sepia effect... it kinda doesn't work for trinoma kasi it becomes redundant... nagiging monochromatic and dull given na super earth tones ang colors ng trinoma... nawawala yung vibrancy ng lugar...
anyways... everyone has their artistic license to do what they want so with that id say the photos are alright! :D
anyways try mo yung HDR technique... very compelling ang effect! :D
KiBeN June 24th, 2007, 10:26 AM congrats sa new digicam:D punta ka minsan pag gabi, mas guso ko kasi gabi sa Trinoma with all the lights etc just like what i did hahaha.

BoNduRanT June 24th, 2007, 03:29 PM According to my friend that works sa construction company in charge of Trinoma, yung scaled model na pinost ang picture dito dati is worth 7 milliong bucks. Crazy numbers pero thats what he told me.
O yeah, he told me na ang grand opening daw ng Trinoma eh pag bubuksan na daw yung Landmark which has yet to start its construction
thomasian June 24th, 2007, 03:49 PM bukas na nga ang connection ng MRT at trinoma., :)

On the left would be Landmark.
That's how high TriNoma level M1 is, almost as high as the platform level of the North-EDSA MRT Station, half-level lang ang itinaas ng platform ng MRT station.
O yeah, he told me na ang grand opening daw ng Trinoma eh pag bubuksan na daw yung Landmark which has yet to start its construction
You're referring to The Landmark Dept. Store or The Landmark Hypermart?
Diba yung nasa left ng pic ni Richard would be the Landmark Dept. Store connected to the Mindanao Ave. parking bldg? It's already topped-off as I've seen it from the overpass. Yung Landmark Hypermart ba yung sa right side naman nung pic ni Richard?

Isang tower nga pwedeng umabot ng almost a hundred grand, isang buong mall pa and adjoining areas!

mallcat June 24th, 2007, 04:15 PM Newbie here,
I just got back from Trinoma and it's almost 10pm. I noticed that the starbucks at the top is almost ready to open. Mukhang mgt at employees na ang nasa loob.
The ponds at the top floor are already filled with water and the stationary fountains and mist machines are at full blast.
Excited na akong mag-kape na al fresco sa gabi. Well, just curious how it feels. Hehe.
Sorry wala akong digicam kanina.

yep yung asa left., all 3 levels of it., :) the right side is goldilocks.,
thomasian June 24th, 2007, 04:28 PM Oh, I dont know, Landmark lang sinabi eh. Probably yung department store.
Ah, eh you were saying it hasn't started construction yet, it's actually topped-off already together with the adjoining parking bldg. on the corner of EDSA and Mindanao Ave. Ext.
I guess if the hypermart is not yet on that topped-off multilevel Landmark bldg., then it would be on the other side, adjacent to the other parking bldg which is the North Ave. parking bldg., that way, we can conclude that it (Landmark Hypermart) hasn't started construction yet.
Mahirap nga daw yung ginawa kasi super detailed yung model, natatanggal siya per floor para makita ang layout ng floorplans.
Wow, that's too complicated. No wonder it's that expensive.

cq40 June 27th, 2007, 03:48 AM Question, is WalterMart a mall chain?
Because if it is, there's one RUMORED being built right next to Munoz Market in Quezon City.
The Old Pldt bldg was demolished, the land was dug and the new foundations for this structure rumored to be WalterMart is being built. I'm still unsure if it is WalterMart but if you ask anyone there, they would say it's WalterMart...

WalterMart is a chain of malls, though not as big as SM or Robinsons.
This one is WalterMart Makati at the corner of Chino Roces and Arnaiz Sts.
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h141/oboi_1/waltermart.jpg
I think there are only two WalterMart's in Metro Manila right now. The other one is at E. Rodriguez Sr. Ave. (beside Montgomery Place and near Trinity University of Asia) in Quezon City.
Majority of the Waltermarts are in Laguna and Cavite and a few others in other provinces.

Parang ang liit ata ng Glorrieta 5.... though it looks modern........ compare to SM their designs are so predicable just like the new supercenter muntinlupa... nothig new, nothing unique.... hehe
thomasian June 29th, 2007, 08:47 AM ^^ Maliit talaga, 9,500 sq.m. lang GLA nya eh, mas malaki pa nga yung BPO office sa ibabaw nya with 16,000 sq.m. GLA.
I think the whole Glorietta 5 structure with retail and BPO components will only be temporary, the BPO component and it's size alone will tell you it's not meant to last long. Maybe it's really meant just to hold the Glorietta 1 tenants temporarily.
Sera June 29th, 2007, 01:35 PM I went to TrinoMa for the first time today. I was impressed with the Garden on the Upmost floor & it reminded me of Greenbelt though the interiors of the mall was just like Glorietta and probably a minor improvement over Glorietta is the Automatic Sliding Doors, with no significant innovations so I was quite bored. I won't judge the mall until everything is complete.

richard24 July 1st, 2007, 04:33 AM Are there any developments to the abandoned Rustan's Superstore in Cubao?
thats gonna be demolished to give way for the manhattan gardens.,
orly July 1st, 2007, 08:42 AM ^ I think orly was referring to SM's designs when he said "predictable, nothing new and nothing unique" :)
I am reffering to both G5 and SM... hehehe...... though the design is cool, G5 is more like an office building rather than an extension of a shopping mall... in case of SM.... still NOT COOL....... hehe Even MOA (no offense).... hehehehehe
Ady001 July 1st, 2007, 08:46 AM ^^ Sad to see that. It's a repeat of the ill-fated COD
JustHorace July 1st, 2007, 09:06 AM ^^Nope, Rustan's is better off in Gateway.
thomasian July 1st, 2007, 09:29 AM ^^ It's quite small though, I hope they expand on the Gateway Annex after it gets built.
Ady001 July 1st, 2007, 09:44 AM Gateway is not that good IMHO. TriNoma is far better. Cubao's choked atmosphere makes it an old-school shopping strip.
JustHorace July 1st, 2007, 12:04 PM I was in TriNoma the other day, and I saw this uber-panget na restaurant sa outdoor section (second floor, on top of the Mindanao Av cor North Av entrance). Grabe! Mukhang carinderia! There were like monobloc chairs scattered all over tapos white vinyl, I think, yung flooring. The logo of the resto was also panget, obviously. Walang ka-design design yung interiors, as in pininturahan lang yung walls and nilagyan ng flooring and that was it! It was a buffet restaurant, katabi ng La Mesa Grill.
If I were the mall administrator, I'd give that space to a better restaurant. It degrades the name TriNoma is trying to establish.
Ady001 July 1st, 2007, 12:08 PM ^^ I think their real spot is still being made. I also saw some spots in TriNoma which did not really made the name. As of today, some spots are still U/C as far as I know. Some, like the MRT add-on and the escalator have been fitted. So just wait.
Ady001 July 1st, 2007, 12:11 PM ^^ Just to add about Araneta Center, it definitely needs a lot of facelift. SM Cubao looks a bit like the Ka'aba. More paints. ValueCenter needs to have more tenants. And the proposed Ali Mall renovation should go and foster.
Sinjin P. July 1st, 2007, 12:58 PM I was in TriNoma the other day, and I saw this uber-panget na restaurant sa outdoor section (second floor, on top of the Mindanao Av cor North Av entrance). Grabe! Baka temporary lang. May nabasa kasi ako na high talaga ang standards ng TriNoma (or ng Ayala Malls in general) to the extent na pahirapan talaga kumuha ng space sa mall dahil kailangan talaga ipakita ang floor plan at rendering sa plano mong gawin sa space nila.

Onionz July 2nd, 2007, 10:29 AM I am reffering to both G5 and SM... hehehe...... though the design is cool, G5 is more like an office building rather than an extension of a shopping mall... in case of SM.... still NOT COOL....... hehe Even MOA (no offense).... hehehehehe
How do you define COOL!!!?? What malls to you are cool looking? Malls in the Philippines are very impressive inside and out, the best in the world to me, I'm proud of all the malls there as a Filipino living here in north america malls here are boring and dead even the best ones they have here don't even come close to the average ones there let's say for example SM southmall (because it's close to where I used to live back home there)
Anyway be proud if you're a Pinoy that there's so many great malls there (we have 4 from the top 10 largest in the world, no other small country has that)
Why don't you build a cool mall which is cool to you...I guess I'm defending SM eh..i love SM hehehe:okay: :okay:

BoNduRanT July 2nd, 2007, 01:37 PM I was at trinoma yesterday - my first time and I love it! They could have made the outdoor park and veranda's bigger.
Sera July 2nd, 2007, 02:21 PM ^^I also got confused with the mall layout...even more compared to Glorietta. What really made up for the madness was the Outdoor Park because it is the first of its kind in Philippine Malls. With everything done thios mall will be one of the best in the world. :)

Okay Okay... just saying my opinion and its only the "exterior"
on Megamall the department store looks good.. they should renovate all their old department stores.... And in Trinoma the layout is really confusing but the experience is worth it Trinoma is the most beautiful mall TODAY.. Tommorow... who knows
kennethologist July 2nd, 2007, 05:27 PM i personally have seen the new SM Department Store in Mega... it's super cool! interior design catalog worthy! kaso one thing was bothering me... it resembled alot with this season's Pinoy Big Brother house... from the color combinations to the patterns... the ceiling and even the choice of lighting
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/mbassy2003/PBBhouse.jpg
(^^ PBB's Interior)
the flicker pic didn't feature the wall patterns and box lightings at the center, but if you've been to the place you'll see the resemblance...
...in fairness ang daming money ng SM, that department store was recently renovated last 2001-2002 then renovation ulet!

Trinoma has a Concierge service just like Glorietta. I had the same problem with Glorietta when it first opened. The circular formation is really dizzying. But eventually, once you place a landmark to a certain wing then you'll get use to it like Glorietta.

At first
Nakaka hilo talaga sa TriNoMa dahil curving and hallways unlike other malls na straight forward, di karamihan ang mga malls na curving ang hallways, i think trinoma plang ang nakita kong curving. Most SM Malls, Gateway, Powerplant, Shangri-La, Robinsons etc..all have straight lines..
I think the mall is now "really open" with lesser imperfections. Now is the best time to preview TriNoMa
Sinjin P. July 3rd, 2007, 12:54 PM ^ Higit na ba sa 50% ang mga shops na open na?

LhexiMont July 3rd, 2007, 05:34 PM Also , I noticed sa Megamall sa mga recently opened at mga nag-renovate na stores , they're adapting the store frontage design to those of Mall of Asia /The Block / Podium .

Source: Business Traveller Asia Pacific:
Metro Manila may badly lack parks or green pockets, but what it does have are malls, malls and more malls.
And shopaholic Filipinos don’t seem to be complaining. A recent outstanding entry to the variety of shopping options is the one-year-old SM Mall of Asia (MOA) of tycoon and Fujian native Henry Sy.
In terms of floor size – 386,000 sq m – it isn’t the world’s biggest shopping mecca, but only the seventh after names like South Dongguan Mall and Golden Resources Mall in China and the Central Plaza in Thailand.
But it still has the power to overwhelm, rising majestically along scenic Manila Bay and occupying 19ha. The 83-year-old Sy, who remains very much in command of his SM Group of Companies, can be said to have redefined the lifestyle of a generation (possibly even two).
The opening of the company’s first supermall, SM City North EDSA in 1985, kicked off the “malling” phenomenon that shows no sign of abating, especially with the steady influx of overseas workers’ remittances, and other retail entrepreneurs joining the bandwagon as well as SM’s future expansion plans.
SM Prime Holdings, tasked with managing the malls, now has 28 shopping centres throughout the archipelago and four branches in China and Guam. According to SM spokesperson, Millie Dizon, MOA realizes another of Sy’s many dreams to serve his adopted country.
Known for his simple work ethic of “getting the job done” – and when he was younger conducting daily shop floor inspections – MOA is a departure from the iconic monolithic concrete structures SMs were known for.
To the first timer, MOA can appear daunting. But it’s actually quite easy to get around in. The complex consists of four buildings linked by elevated walkways – the Main Mall (with shopping and dining and the Philippines’ first Olympic-sized ice-skating rink), North Parking Building (SM Hypermarket), South Parking Building (SM Department Store) and Entertainment Center (chic restaurants facing the famous Manila Bay and 10 theatres including a Director’s Club and the country’s first IMAX theatre).
Capitlalising on the sea breezes, many areas of MOA are not air conditioned. Not to be outdone, Ayala Malls of Ayala Land recently ventures from its traditional baliwicks of Makati City, Alabang Town Center and Taguig, all south of Metro Manila into north Metro Manila with its TriNoma (Triangle North of Makati) development.
Starting with the mall, which recently soft opened, the long-term goal is to grow TriNoma into “a centre of retain, dining and entertainment in this part of the city,” says Rowena Tomeldan, vice-president and deputy grouop head of Ayala Malls.
Its proximity to the MRT Depot in North Triangle is also seen as a valuable asset boosting its progress.
Besides hosting prestigious local and foreign brands such as Bench, Penshoppe, Zara and Topshop, new retail concepts will be introduced by Rolex, Skechers, Birkenstock, Merrel and Sperry, who have announced their first Philippine outlets will be located at TriNoma.
A design innovation, the TriNoma Park, a one-hectare rooftop experience will be ideal for shows and performances.

rolex? wow! is this a typo?
this could be quite a security risk, even riskier than that of a bank, i must say
and as for being 'dwarfed by other malls in asia', that might be the case, but pinas probably has the largest complex of total leasable areas bridged by mass transit.
trinoma, sm north, megamall, shangrila ortigas, and makati combined, should be unchallenged for a long time

yamota July 5th, 2007, 06:50 PM Giant enclosed mega malls first started popping up in the late 70s and early 80s but now I believe they are quickly becoming things of the past, relics of the late 20th century. Nowadays what you see more of are smaller, open air, more intimate shopping centers. They're not even called 'malls' anymore, they call them 'town centers' or 'plazas' or 'courtyards' in keeping with the more intimate small town motif and feel...

SM North Edsa Redevelopment Plan Updates (Point of view)
Remember SM Annex (That's now demolished and land was flattened?)
The cranes on the Retail Side (Not the IMAX Side) of the Building is now laid, it was a blue crane, the length is shorter than that of TriNoMa because the lot is small. But the crane is low pang 3 storey building. Another lower crane is there probably to help with the foundations. NO cranes yet near the main building (IMAX Side).
Since they planned the construction in 2008, i thought that move is too soon.. OMG SM is in Panic Mode talaga.. The SM Dept store facelift is almost done. Interiors in the main building is being retouched as well. Looks like hinahabol ang upcoming Sale.
Sinjin P. July 6th, 2007, 06:39 AM ^ Diba SM is supposed to have their redevelopment of North EDSA completed by 2008? :dunno:

Yah, but the main building facelift and facade land lifts? I doubt they'll finish it in time, 2008?...:ohno: But i'm sure The Annex can be built in less than 9 months just like The Block. They can start next year and finish in the same year.
I'm hoping an amusement park with a giant Ferris Wheel (Like in London) at the top of Annex would overcast TriNoMa for sho..but it's just my imagination...

I don't think so, maybe a couple of upmarket stores but not totally high-end as it will partly eat up Podium's market, and defeat the purpose of SM building the nearby The Podium.

dancethingy July 9th, 2007, 03:58 PM ^^^^ Totally agree with you, i little imperfection here or there makes every single thing about the country MEDIOCRE. I don't get how exposed pipes in a garden pool is reason to make such a sweeping generalization about the Philippines. Picture a tourist walking around trinoma and saying, "exposed pipes! ugh, this country is soooo mediocre."
Who knows, maybe the pipes are supposed to show. Maybe they considered it and wanted it to look industrial? many decent lofts in Chicago expose their pipings cause they consider it a style, its an art thing dude.
mallcat July 9th, 2007, 04:26 PM ^^ ^^ I've looked at those pipes at the Trinoma mini-park closely this weekend and it looks like they're inlets for the fountains with filters to prevent debris from getting in. So I guess they are meant to be seen more easily, at least from a practical standpoint.
On the other hand, I don't know if they'll put lillies on the ponds later on to either hide them or to make the place take on a more natural look.
jericholic July 9th, 2007, 05:15 PM ^^

xavierdude July 9th, 2007, 07:18 PM i think the pipes look ok... one thing they need to look at is the maintenance of the flooring... may thin layer na ng putik made obvious kasi ang daming footprints!

jbkayaker12 July 9th, 2007, 11:17 PM Just hope nobody pulls the exposed wiring on this water feature. Sloppy work if you don't want to call it mediocre work. Having lived in Canada for almost 10 years, I have seen a lot of people who are the opposite - TERRIBLY difficult to please. No matter what, they aren't happy. To be easy to please makes life a lot happier. Filipinos in the Philippines are joyful no matter what the circumstances there in their lives.
I'm proud to be a Filipino even if I'm a Canadian citizen and at least the Philippines as a great culture good or bad NOT like North America or the US
where you are mate where there's no culture at all and half the population are fat-obese sorry...but I defend my Philippines no matter what I love my mother land and as for other Filipinos abroad all I can say is that most of them have lost who they are now they lost their Filipino values and culture and it goes their kids and kid's kids and so on and it's gone...they're just brown colored people living in America
jbkayaker12 July 10th, 2007, 12:30 AM Easy to please that compromises safety, I beg to differ and the end result for this easy to please mentality are sub standard service and product that can endanger lives, be it a collapsing ceiling or in the case of a building, the one that recently toppled a few months ago.
crappypants July 10th, 2007, 01:59 AM Right said. Malakas lang ang loob nyan kasi nasa abroad sya.
i think this is really wrong.
most overseas pinoys only comment such because they want local pinoys to raise their standards in expectations so they will not be taken advantaged and exploited by unscrupulous businesses and govt. officials.
Please don't always misconstrue it as being mayabang or maarte.
if we don't raise our standards and always settle we will never improve our country.
3D-CAD July 10th, 2007, 06:20 AM Totally agree with you, i little imperfection here or there makes every single thing about the country MEDIOCRE.
Bro,
Even without the supposed exposed pipes, the 'pwede na yan mentality', coined decades ago, has been prevalent in the Philippines. It is the polar opposite of the 'export quality' stamp you find on some of the locally manufactured product implying a higher standard meant for foreign consumption. We as Filipinos do not deserve this because I firmly believe we are equally deserving world beaters and are more than the work ethic 'pwede na yan'....and if it concerns safety, dude the art thingy must always take a back seat.

PEOPLE, these pipes are not to be used for anything else but spit water into the air and down. WHY MAKE A BIG DEAL OUT OF IT? So if you don't like what you see, THEN don't visit the place. SIMPLE.
LOL @ freedom of voicing our own opinions. PLEASE... YOU'RE RUINING THE GOOD VIBES of this forum. :bash:

Now this is the posting which I am having difficulty understanding....I just don't get it....most of us in this board enjoy the freedom of posting our own opinions either locally based or abroad like any self respecting individual will. Even with your reply below this thread jericholic...it only shows local folks are brave enough to post their opinions so why do you say "Malakas lang ang loob nyan kasi nasa abroad sya" ??? Now that's CONTRADICTION

sorry for being ot
but that is so true. i guess that's why colonial mentality is subconsciously ingrained in every single Filipino the moment you're born .
this can have tragic effect coz it can lower self esteem and cause inferiority complex.
cq40 July 10th, 2007, 07:31 AM Just hope nobody pulls the exposed wiring on this water feature. Sloppy work if you don't want to call it mediocre work. There are ways to conceal pipes and wirings but it looks like the owner of this mall doesn't mind having expose wires and pipes. It is not just about aesthetics but safety as well.

OMG! What an opinion..You know they are live wires, WHY WOULD YOU EVEN THINK OF TOUCHING THEM?? :ohno: Yes they are visible but they are not meant to be touched, what i am saying is that, it's like...
"Ay may wire oh, kaya kong hawakan, naku gusto yata ako makuryente ng ayala, kahiya sila..." and "Ay may billboard, kaya kong akyatin, gusto yata ako patayin ng ad owners" or "Ay may EDSA, ang bilis ng sasakyan, gusto yata ako masagasaan ng MMDA"
HOW PATHETIC!!
Nandun po ang wires para gumana ang water features, kung makuryente ka dahil dun diyos ko po kasalanan ng nanay mo dahil nakalimutan ka nyang turuan na wag humawak ng live wire noh noh noh! My goodness!
And besides the mall is NOT YET fully opened...people should criticize the mall AFTER IT'S GRAND OPENING!! WHEN IT'S PROUDLY OPEN ALREADY...:ohno:

3D-CAD July 10th, 2007, 08:15 AM Hello Onoinz,
Congratulations for your 10 years of stay in Canada matatag ka na :), me however I am still at the 'homesickness stage' as I am a lurker in this board missing the Philippines from SoCal. Like most Filipinos abroad, professional growth and greener pasture are some of the weighty reasons why I opted to leave the Philippines. I know what you mean when you say 'Filipino Culture'. I would like to call it 'Filipino family values' which is sooooo great of course. I call it that way because there's also a part of our Filipino culture that's not good and has kept our country down to the extent that some of us have sought our fortunes elsewhere.
Once I was on my way back to Pnas from Hong Kong, I made a conversation with our kababayans on the plane. I told them there's no building in Hong Kong that the Philippines cannot have for its own. By the time I finished speaking, they gave me their two cents worth - a hideous laughter, they must have though I was dreaming. But that wasn't the first time....back in my college days in UP I told my roomate's parents who frequented Hong Kong the same thing....there's nothing in Hong Kong that the Philippines cannot have for its own...of course the father let out a hideous laughter followed by the mother...well I take so much pride that the Filipino can....It just upsetting that sometimes when the opportunity to shine arrives they choose to do otherwise...

jbkayaker12 July 10th, 2007, 09:43 AM Perhaps Ayala is just waiting for an unsuspecting drunk to pull the wires before they think of fixing such "little mess" according to the perception of some of you in here. Let me just edit what I posted above regarding the building in Divisoria, "the one that recently toppled a few months ago", actually it toppled in 2004. My bad but still a sub standard construction.
adverg July 11th, 2007, 12:29 PM So much to put things into construction industry. This is a very wide scope of services. With this inclusion, this is a normal incidents happen after turn over of the finish project. By contracts, contractor are still liable for a duration as specified in the contract wherein their final claims will put under retention claim unless they fully complete as to the satisfaction of the consultant in charge. That's why punch listing is presented after thorough inspection of the site for defects done by the contractor. Don't worry the management is aware of all this. It will take time to rectify all those defects most especially this is a large scale projects, no matter how good the monitoring/ supervising project and standards of construction methodology and materials applied, still, defects will come out at the end. What more if this was done with not much rigid execution and consideration of time frame?

You could have focused on the 'pipes' issue. If you really think that Ayala made a sloppy work, then you could have done something about it. You don't have that 'culture of mediocrity', right? Do whatever you think is right to reach Ayala and correct the problem. Instead, nag-focus ka sa panglalait ng mga dati mong kababayan. Automatic toilet tissue dispenser ready
By GREG BLUESTEIN, Associated Press Writer
Wed Jul 11, 8:43 AM ET
Richard Thorne grins as he waves his hand under a toilet paper dispenser in a women's restroom. The machine spits five sheets of tissue into his grasp.
A year in the works, the electronic tissue dispenser is being rolled out to the masses by Kimberly-Clark Professional as it seeks to capture more of the $1 billion away-from-home toilet paper market. The company believes most people will be satisfied with five sheets — and use 20 percent less toilet paper.
"Most people will take the amount given," says Thorne. Waxing philosophical, he adds, "People generally in life will take what you give them."
Kimberly-Clark turned to focus groups and years of internal research to determine just how much is right.
Americans typically use twice as much toilet paper as Europeans — as much as an arm's length each pull, Thorne says. The company decided the best length is about 20 inches — or precisely five standard toilet paper squares, though the machine can also be adjusted to churn out 16 inches or 24 inches, depending on the demand.
Roswell-based Kimberly-Clark Professional, a unit of Dallas-based Kimberly-Clark Corp., hopes dispensers like the one at the office will one day fit in with the automatic toilets, faucets and paper towel machines that have become a norm in many other office and institutional bathrooms.
"The one part of the room where there's not an automatic option is toilet tissue," says Thorne, director of the company's washroom business.
Call it a final frontier — of cheapness — if you wish.
When one of the two motion sensors is activated, the device's battery-powered motor automatically dispenses a predetermined amount of toilet paper.
The machine isn't completely automated. Each also comes with a suite of "security" features in case the machine malfunctions.
There's an emergency feed button, and a manual feed roller lets the users pull the roll around if the motor breaks down or the four D-size batteries run out. There's also an option for a "rescue roll" on one side of the machine just in case the old-fashioned way is preferred.
"This is probably the most personal experience you can have. We didn't want to get any frustrations," Thorne says. "None of us like to touch things they think someone before them has touched."
The devices cost about $30 apiece for the plastic variety, and $55 if cased in stainless steel.
Sean Nichols, one of the lead marketers for the device, says he's banking on the "coolness, the newness of the unit."
He's sending some to late-night comedians and hoping for TV exposure. He also says he hopes the devices will appeal to clean-freaks, such as Tony Shalhoub's obsessive compulsive germophobe character on the USA Network's "Monk."
But Thorne admits the company won't truly achieve a "touchless" bathroom until it develops a toilet that does the dirty work for you.
"And that," he says, "is going to be interesting."
He slides his hand under the toilet paper one more time for emphasis, and another string of toilet paper shoots out.
"The final frontier," he says with a smile.

Wake up and smell the coffee, the problem with Filipinos and the Philippines, they dont want to hear the truth be it coming from a fellow Filipino or from someone else. Ayaw ng mga Filipino na may nasasabi ang ibang tao dahil ayaw nilang mapahiya, losing face ika nga which is not very constructive at all dahil hindi magbabago ang Pilipinas kung ganyan ang attitude.

Hey angos living in fat America drop it with all you polical criticism in this forum we're here to enjoy the malls we've pointed out flaws and that's it if you want to do something about then do something instead of voicing your bitterness towards our kababayan and motherland.
i suggest make your own political forum.
I love the Philippines and everything in it, even though people there have ruined it and made it bad but not all of them.
I still believe in what Jose Rizal said about the youth is the future of the nation, it doesn't come easy or instantly but it will happen.
I want to help the Philippines as much as I can but I can't living in Canada making a living can't afford to even go outside of Canada for now, all I can do for now is hope and pray that the good people there and leaders will make things better progressively but I'm proud of it no matter what.
one question for you man...what are you doing to make things better for the Philippines aside from your bickering?

Do you think Filipinos in the Philippines will take lightly what you have said? Constructive criticism would have been ok, but to put down your own people, IMO it's foul. Para kasing hindi ka Pilipino kung magsalita at manglait ng kapwa Pilipino.
Thanks MakatiBoy, I just wanted to point that out too to our foul brother there in America I stand by Filipinos who work together for the good of our Philippines no matter where they are in this world...it's true Filipinos don't work together but it's not too late you can always start any time.
crappypants July 11th, 2007, 09:26 PM I hope all Shoe Mart mall restrooms have this. Until now they still don't have toilet paper in the restrooms.

"The final frontier," he says with a smile.

i think the malls fwith all the money they're making should at least have tp in bathrooms where you don't have to pay for it from vending machines. coz what if you have no change. but most important don't forget the soap.
i noticed the malls have lots of soap now, not the watered down variety, maybe with the improving economy. But the robinsons mall in manila that one is really hopeless all the bathrooms are dirty .
why is tp so expensive in the PHils? Do they think that people will steal the tp or abuse the tp. i don't think people will really go to the malls just to use the bathrooms. i
jbkayaker12 July 11th, 2007, 09:34 PM I want to help the Philippines as much as I can but I can't living in Canada making a living can't afford to even go outside of Canada for now, all I can do for now is hope and pray that the good people there and leaders will make things better progressively but I'm proud of it no matter what.
one question for you man...what are you doing to make things better for the Philippines aside from your bickering?
:baeh3:
You don't need to be in the Philippines to help and show your support for the Philippines and its people. I'll let you know something which I have posted and have done before. In Canada, patronize Philippine owned businesses for one, be it a restaurant, store, a remittance center, banks, .......and buy Philippine made products. There are products out there in major stores that are made in the Philippines buy it if you need it. This will benefit the Philippines and its people, you don't have to fly back home for a visit to help. Filipinos working in Philippine owned business and Im not saying just Philippine owned businesses, these people have families and relatives back home, who knows the person serving your palabok might be sending someone to college in the Philippines.

we're here to enjoy talking about malls and not ponder too much on the bad things going on, that we have no control or at least try to.

Area51 July 13th, 2007, 01:29 AM If you ask me, I think a lot of portions of Trinoma were not well done. From the oft mentioned pipes, to the parking areas, to the floor drains to the ceilings, to the lightings and even the rooftop "park" whick just looks too artificial to me.
But having said that, Trinoma is still better executed than a big majority of malls in the US or in Europe. Most of the malls there have leaking roofs, poorly finished walls, etc.
Let's keep the comments real. No need to hide the facts. A project as big and as complicated as trinoma, it is almost impossible to have a perfect product.

Quality wise before any of the projects in the USA receive an occupancy permit it has to pass a stringent inspection from the city or county where it is located. Even during construction, inspectors are checking if it is meeting safety and quality standards. Im not sure if it is the same way in the Philippines.

It all boils down to people scrutinizing an unfinished work. Parang teacher na may grade na kaagad ung test paper ng student, eh hindi pa niya patapusing sagutan lahat ng mga questions at ipareview. tsk tsk. :bash: Imagine how many "faceless" pinoys with "lots of free time" do this.
adverg July 13th, 2007, 06:10 AM I agree with Area 51, we are in this line, so we know much more than what others trying to implicate the situation. No matter how stringent the supervising and inspecting teams in the site, problems still arise at the end of the completion period. That's why by contracts retention is required prior to rectification of defects occured.

Ady001 July 15th, 2007, 11:36 AM Hello guys. Sorry for the massive flooding of mall pictures at the start of the thread. I made a trip around Manila just to take pictures of some malls. And frankly, I got a lot, thanks to my trusty albeit shake-susceptible camphone. Some of the malls here are not featured here in SSC yet, or some are not, so please enjoy my tiny collection.
Raon Shopping Complex
Strictly not a mall, but a long line of stalls selling electronic products, Raon is a haven for those people who want to get something for their money. I didn't take much photos in Raon for fear of my phone getting snatched. Here's a stolen shot.

midwestguy1 July 15th, 2007, 12:03 PM Thanks ady! Hopefully when I get to visit the Philippines again, I'll make sure to see these places. I think I know how to get to Recto once I have seen a familiar landmark to me.

Did you know, the color of SM City Sta Mesa Annex (where the SM Appliance Center and Banco de Oro is) is also red and yellow, exactly like that of Sogo. :colgate:

Now about malls:
Can someone take pictures of all the malls/shopping centers in the Las Pinas - Alabang area from Zapote to Alabang anyone living in Las Pinas area because I used to live near there and go to all the malls there especially SM southmall and Alabang Town center I miss them all and I left the Philippines before they built the Festival Supermall I haven't even been there.
Thanks to anyone who can feature Las Pinas-Alabang malls.

Industry-wide, ang debut ng Order of the Phoenix ang fourth biggest in Philippine box-office history na pinangungunahan ng Spider-Man 3, Spider-Man 2 at Superman Returns.
"Harry has done it again, and we couldn’t be happier with the results," pahayag ni G. Francis Soliven, general manager ng Warner Bros. sa ‘Pinas.
"Cineplexes around the country reported record crowds during the weekend, and we’d like to thank the moviegoing public for turning out to see Harry’s latest adventures."
Ang limang topgrossing cinemas ay TriNoma (P5.19M), IMAX Theatre (P5.13M), Glorietta 4 (P4.46M), SM Megamall (P4.34M) at Gateway (P4.22M).
kevinb July 17th, 2007, 10:49 AM Saw this Mall of Asia commercial on TV earlier. I like it - simple. I like the beat too, similar to those WOW Philippines commercials. One thing though... people weren't this hip and trendy when I went there

I have to agree. In contrast to the reality, SM MoA's image in this video became a little bit closer to the Ayala Malls.

This is one of the tallest and few malls in Metro Manila which has at least 6 levels or more . Other malls that I known of are the which has at least five levels are: ( correct me if im wrong )
1. Shangrila Plaza - at least 7 levels ( Mandaluyong City )
2. SM Megamall - 6 levels ( Mandaluyong City )
3. SM City Manila - 6 levels ( Manila )
4. Isetann Cinerama - 6 levels ( Manila )
5. Metropolis Mall - 5 levels ( Muntinlupa City )
6. Market Market - 5 levels ( Taguig City )
7. Gateway Mall - 5 Levels ( Quezon City )
8. Trinoma - 5 levels ? ( Quezon City )

Lahat ba ng 7 cinemas ng TriNoma kasama dyan? Kasi kung oo, it only means that IMAX is the top-grossing cinema for HP5 since it's a single cinema unlike the ones at TriNoma, SM Mega and Gateway. 'Di ba?

IMAX is considered one cinema because it's different from the other cinemas and franchised lang sya. If you consider that, then we will be comparing IMAX Theatre to Trinoma's Cinema 7 to Greenbelt's Cinema 1 to Gateway's Globe Platinum Cinema. :)

from Ayala Center's
SM's is more of showcasing its facilities, amenities, features, etc being used by socialized people
Ayala's is more of how families & friends have fun in a mall

Tsk tsk tsk..Oh no SM North Edsa...Ang dating lumalampaso sa Glorietta pag dating sa Top Grossers in movies, trinoma lang pala ang makaka surpass, take note, TriNoMa is not yet fully opened okay..what more...Gosh, Panic na..

I know IMAX is a single cinema. It's only the IMAX theater in the cpuntry, as everybody knows. :wink2:
i watched HP5 in trinoma last monday. 5 of their 7 cinemas were showing HP5 at that time.
Then it's a wrong comparison given alliele's post. Five THX cinemas versus one single IMAX theater? And besides they don't even have the same fees. If I'm not mistaken, IMAX asks a P300 entrance fee for movies like HP5. (They asked for the same amount when Spidey3 and Superman Returns was shown there, if I can remember it right.) How about TriNoma? I don't have any idea. Could they be asking a little bit more than P130?
feistyradical July 19th, 2007, 06:57 AM just to add:
SM North Edsa grossed (2.55M)
SM The Block (2.49M)
I wonder why they separated the two? The Block is part of SM North Edsa. If you combined both, SM City North Edsa should take the 3rd spot.
anyway here's the rundown from #6 onwards:
6. SM Mall of Asia (3.51M)
7. Greenbelt 3 (3.47M)
8. Power Plant (3.14M)
9. Shangri_la (3.02M)
10. Robinsons Galleria (2.70M)
11. Festival Mall (2.57M)
12. Robinsons Ermita (2.56)
13. SM North Edsa (2.55M)
14. SM Cebu (2.50M)
15. SM The Block (2.49M)
16. Alabang Town Center (2.48M)
17. Greenhills Theater (2.35M)
18. Ayala Center Cebu (2.42M)
19. SM Manila (2.28M)
20. Eastwood (2.19M)
