View Full Version : Mega Metro Manila Malls
cq40 October 14th, 2008, 03:06 PM What? Is this true? What will happen to the SM supermarket in the main building?
Mabuti naman at may Supermarket sa SM Annex, it should look and smell fresh, I Like.
My Only Problem with The new Annex, The old Annex is only 2 floors, and hirap sila mapuntahan yun ng tao, gawin pang 5 levels plus basement? Ewan ko lang, sana mag click.
evilgenius15 October 14th, 2008, 03:43 PM ^^ kaya dinugtong nila ung Sky Garden Park sa Annex... and naglagay na rin sila ng
bigger parking space sa annex, paran maraming dumaan doon, hehehe

This is not connecting directly to TriNoma's bldg. It's just to the sidewalk of TriNoma.
Judging by the construction, there's a shallow hole parallel to the sidewalk, like a staircase well.
It's Just an ordinary overpass to The Sky Garden Park. Just like the pink one on the other side.
So far.
Also.
That Bridge is directly connected all the way to the Grass Residences. :)
If ever that bridge is connected to the main bldg of TriNoma, it would be an insult :D
evilgenius15 October 14th, 2008, 05:30 PM ^^ kailangan talaga coordinated rin yung design ng overpass sa sky garden park...
gagawa rin for sure ang trinoma ng sariling overpass connecting that overpass para mas accessible...
stanleymalls October 14th, 2008, 06:19 PM ^^ Tama!
Glasses in the render na ipopost ko bukas ay iniinstall pa rin up to now.
Cladding installation are still on-going. Wah! Naiimagine ko na kung anong itsura!
ÜBER na toh!
Feeling ko talaga, December to. Pwamis! :)
Bukas ko ipopost yung photos. Wala akong time kanina e.

icarusrising October 16th, 2008, 12:27 PM Pioneers share life with SM (http://www.philstar.com/index.php?Business%20As%20Usual&p=49&type=2&sec=39)
Monday, October 13, 2008
SM City North-Edsa was the mall that started it all and changed Filipino lifestyles forever. For many of us to whom malling has become a way of life, it’s hard to imagine the circumstances how SM founder and chairman Henry Sy Sr.’s decision to open the mall was a big risk during that time.
In 1985, the country was in the midst of a major political and economic crisis brought about by the assassination of Senator Ninoy Aquino. Inflation was soaring at double-digit level, a huge capital flight and a lot of uncertainty. The fact that the mall seemed to be in the middle of nowhere fueled doomsday predictions.
But Sy saw it differently. Instead of a road to nowhere, he saw a crossroads linking the metro and provincial areas. Instead of a crisis, he saw an opportunity to serve more customers. During his buying trips to the US during the 1950s and 60s, Sy had seen how the suburbs had grown from the East to West coast, each with a shopping mall as its center, and from that time knew that this would be possible in the Philippines. The rest, as they say, is history.
As SM City North-Edsa today prepares for yet another transformation beginning with the opening of the new Annex later this year, some of the mall’s pioneer tenants share with us the reasons why they took the risk that time with Sy. They also share with us how they have grown with SM, and why they will continue to be part of the mall as it renovates.
MANELS
Opened November 12, 1985
Why they chose to open at North-EDSA: “Tessie Sy-Coson invited me and some other colleagues in the retail industry to have a tour of the mall as it was being built and gave me prime space,” recalls Manels chairman Manuel Siggaoat. “While I was apprehensive because of the crisis during that time, this was overcome by my experience working with SM — its track record in Makati, and the all out support of the mall’s management.”
How they have grown with SM? “Sales were good from the time we opened, and I remember that the mall even had to extend its closing hours to 9:00 and 10:00 PM to accommodate the many customers. We now have 42 stores all over the Philippines, 18 of which are at SM.”
Why they will continue to be part of the North-EDSA transformation: “We have a dynamic relationship, and I want to be part of the new mall, just as I was part of North-EDSA the first time it opened.
JOLLIBEE
Opened 1986
Why they chose to open at North-EDSA: We’ve had a long, solid relationship with SM for so many years,” says Jollibee president William Tan. “I remember the time I was scheduled to meet Henry Sy Sr. about opening a branch at SM City North-EDSA. I was surprised that they had scheduled the meeting at SM Echague at 12 midnight. We went as were asked to and were shocked to see Sy still in the office with his staff at that time.
I was also impressed and touched when Tessie-Sy Coson who was heavy with her first child at the time took time to tour me around the construction site and show me the space SM was providing. We were amazed at the SM management’s dedication to work and thought that despite the odds, the mall would be a success.”
How they have grown with SM: “We have more than 30 Jollibee outlets in its malls and supercenters. We have a mutually beneficial relationship with SM.”
Why they will continue to be part of the SM City North-EDSA transformation: “We will always remain committed to support SM in its malls in the Philippines and overseas.”
RICKY REYES
Opened November 12, 1985
Why he chose to open at North-EDSA: “I’m a very adventurous businessman,” says Ricky Reyes, who founded his popular chain of hair and beauty salons. “Besides, I could see the trend leading to shopping malls.”
How he has grown with SM: “I was a pioneer tenant at SM City North-EDSA opening the same time as the Department Store and Supermarket, and have grown as SM has grown. Today, I have salons in almost SM Malls — except those in Sucat, Batangas, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro.”
Why he will continue to be part of the SM City North-EDSA transformation: “It’s because of my loyalty to Henry Sy Sr. whom I fondly call Tatang. I remember when SM City North-EDSA first opened, he would be in the mall every other day. He would often visit my salon and our interactions became learning sessions for me. For me, Mr. Sy is not only a business icon, but someone who has become very much like a father to me.”
NATIONAL BOOKSTORE
Opened April 11, 1986
Why they chose to open at North-EDSA: “My mother in law, National Bookstore founder Socorro Ramos and Mr. Henry Sy, Sr. had known each other for sometime as they both had stores downtown,” says National Bookstore president Precy Ramos. “He invited us to be part of the mall, and we agreed.”
How they have grown with SM: “ We have been able to grow together and today 30 of our 100 branches are at SM.”
Why they will continue to be part of the SM City North-EDSA transformation: “We are happy to be part of the new SM City North-EDSA the way we were the first time it opened.”
FRENCH BAKER
Opened September 1989
Why they chose to open at North-EDSA: “Before I thought of investing in French Baker, our family was already supplying bread to the SM Supermarket,” says French Baker president Johnlu Koa. “Deciding to join SM was not difficult as I’ve known the Sy brothers, especially Herbert, very well. I knew it would work because I’ve done my homework and studied market opportunities.”
How they grew with SM: “I was one of the first tenants at the old SM City Annex. During that time, the crises were different - brownouts and coup attempts, but I was given much support and encouragement by the SM management. I hope that I will have 40 stores by the end of the year, and am happy that 90 percent of these are at SM.”
Why they will continue to be part of SM City North-EDSA’s transformation: “Putting up a store at SM makes it very accessible and convenient for customers. Having worked with SM for 20 years has made us aware of the vision of SM Founder Henry Sy, Sr. to always be innovative and up to date. We are happy to be part and share this vision.”
SPORTSHOUSE
Opened December 1985
Why they chose to open at North-EDSA: “We believed in the mall concept,” says Sportshouse president Mars Chua. “ I vividly remember our opening day at SM City North-Edsa, which was graced by celebrities, PBA players, sporstscasters and sports enthusiasts. We dressed our mannequins in sports attire and were surprised that shoppers were having their picture taken with those mannequins.”
How they grew with SM: “We have around 32 stores nationwide, 22 of which are at SM.”
Why they will continue to be part of SM City North-EDSA’s transformation: : I am very grateful to SM especially to Mr. Sy for all the support and encouragement through the years. Wherever SM goes, we are looking forward to be part of the group.”
Some of SM City North-EDSA’s other pioneer tenants include McDonald’s, Max’s, Goldilocks, Dimensione, Magic, Ideal Vision, Fabric Warehouse, and Multi Time, each one with their own SM story, each looking forward to open new stores as SM City North-EDSA undergoes its transformation.

Ozymandias214 October 16th, 2008, 04:22 PM So the new wing of Greenbelt 5 is finally open. It's quite posh, really. So far only a few stores have opened, with the first floor being devoted to mainly European luxury brands. I saw a Jaeger LeCoultre, Panerai, Rolex, Fred Perry, and Breitling, among others. Only Madison Grill is open of the restaurants in the new wing so far, but I've read somewhere that there's gonna be a Le Souffle there, too. And of course, that Hermes boutique everyone is talking about.

hirolionheart October 17th, 2008, 03:50 PM Philippines mall mogul rakes it in as crisis hits rich: Forbes
AFP - Thursday, October 16
MANILA (AFP) - - A shopping mall mogul has become the Philippines richest man after amassing 1.4 billion dollars in past year, while his peers were hit by the global financial crisis, it was announced Thursday.
The fortune that Henry Sy made was the "biggest gain in absolute terms" of the country's wealthiest 40 families, who saw their collective wealth plunge 18 percent amid the world credit turmoil, Forbes magazine said in a statement.
In its annual list of the Philippines' richest people, Forbes said the country's stock exchange had dived 35 percent in the past year, making 25 out of 40 tycoons -- including those in banking and real estate -- were poorer.
Forbes said the Sy family was now worth 3.1 billion dollars, vaulting from second place to first.
The low-profile 83-year-old and his family control SM Investments, which owns stakes in a dozen companies including the nation's second largest bank.
Sy started off selling shoes to American GIs in the Philippines in 1958. From one store known as Shoemart, he built a multi-billion dollar empire.
Today he is Asia's biggest shopping mall operator with 30 mega malls throughout the Philippines.
Jaime Zobel de Ayala and family slipped from first to third as their wealth suffered a massive drop of 800 million dollars, to 1.2 billion dollars, Forbes said.
The stock of their conglomerate Ayala Corp. is down 46 percent since last year in part because of the economic slowdown and declining profits in banking and electronics manufacturing units, it said.
Moving up to second position is Lucio Tan and family, with a net worth of 1.5 billion dollars, although this is still down by 100 million dollars from last year.
Tan controls Philippine airlines as well as the country's largest cigarette firm, one of its largest brewers, mining operations and Hong Kong property.
Also hit hard is property tycoon Andrew Gotianun of Filinvest Land, who fell 10 places to 17th after losing 625 million dollars to give him a net worth of 235 million dollars.
Senate President Manuel Villar, the largest shareholder in high-end homebuilder Vista Land, also saw his wealth tumble 55 percent to 425 million dollars to put him in 11th, down from fifth last year.
Another property kingpin, Andrew Tan, saw his net worth plunge 400 million dollars to 700 million dollars.
The 57-year old made much of his wealth as an office developer for the outsourcing industry and is now betting on gaming and tourism.
Of the 40 richest Filipinos this year, 11 tycoons eked out gains but almost all of those increases were because of reporting on new assets or shareholdings or the combination of relatives' stakes, including Sy.
The Philippines had three billionaires this year compared with four last year as Andrew Tan lost this elite status.
Lourdes Montinola seemed to buck the trend as shares of her Far Eastern University increased 38 million dollars to vault her to number 31 with a net worth of 68 million dollars.
There was only one newcomer, Alfredo Ramos of Atlas Consolidated Mining, who debuted at number 23 with a net worth 126 million dollars.
A net worth of 30 million dollars is required to make the Philippines rich list, unchanged from last year. Fourteen tycoons had net worth of less than 100 million dollars and four of last year's members failed to make the cut.

Philippine Daily Inquirer
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/breakingnews/metro/view/20081017-167043/Glorietta-redevelopment-under-way
MANILA, Philippines—The Glorietta in Makati today is a picture of buzzing activity, a welcome change from the grief that haunted its stalls a year ago.
Ayala Land Inc., one of the country’s largest real estate developers and the owner-operator of Glorietta said it has made inroads in overcoming the stigma of the October 19 blast that killed 11 people injured hundreds last year.
In fact, the redevelopment of the whole Glorietta complex is underway and it includes a makeover of the old Glorietta mall.
ALI president Jaime Ayala, in a emailed response to Philippine Daily Inquirer, said part of the process is to demolish the old Glorietta 1 and 2 sections of the mall complex as well as “Goldcrest”, the flea market area, to make way for “a brand new, mixed-use development that will consist of fresh flagship stores and updated concepts from the mall's existing Glorietta 1 and 2 merchants.”
“If you remember Glorietta before, it was several different buildings and we put one roof over it. That's why Glorietta 4 has four floors and Glorietta 1 has one floor. It didn't really connect. So the main thrust of the redevelopment is to integrate everything into one mall so it will feel just like one mall,” Ayala said in an earlier interview.
Ayala also said the new Glorietta mall will include cutting-edge office spaces and a new businessman's hotel. The retail area in the middle will also link up with Glorietta 3 and 4, creating a new activity center, a ground level interior boulevard and a spacious activity-filled roof deck.
Today there is only one hotel.
“Once completed, Glorietta will reinforce its position as the premier shopping destination in the country,” Ayala said.
As part of the redevelopment, ALI is constructing the fifth Glorietta building or Glorietta 5, an eight-level structure at the old parking lot occupying the space in front of Hotel Intercontinental Manila and beside Rustan’s mall. Glorietta 5 is slated to open in time for the Christmas season this year.
Three floors of Glorietta 5 will have retail spaces spanning around 9,500 square meters, and the other five floors will have office spaces that may cater to business process outsourcing (BPO) firms.
Some of the tenants displaced by the closure of the damaged Glorietta 2 are given the option to transfer to other Ayala mall sites, including Glorietta 5, officials earlier said.
“We have already moved most of the Glorietta 1 tenants to Glorietta 5 which is under construction. Once we move them (all) over there, we can already start with G1 and G2,” Ayala said.
To further enhance the makeover of the Glorietta Center, ALI has teamed up with Dubai-based Kingdom Hotel Investments, a Saudi-owned hotel and resort management company, to develop a 7,377-square-meter lot at the corner of Makati Avenue and Arnaiz Avenue into a luxury hotel complex.
The development, which will cost roughly $153 million, will comprise a 300-room Fairmont Hotel, a 30-suite Raffles Hotel, and 189 Raffles-branded private residences.

Magkano kaya bayad nila dito?

jefflacs October 19th, 2008, 01:57 PM diba unang natapos yung shoe center or dept. store ba yung nsa center.parang antagal matapos ng renovation? how was it? medyo gateway naba?
yes, formerly cinemas 1 and 2 yung shoe center.

hirolionheart October 19th, 2008, 03:24 PM SM opens modern chapel in Megamall
Source: Manila Bulletin
The new chapel of the Eucharistic Lord at the SM Megamall, which is considered the largest chapel in a shopping mall in the Philippines, was inaugurated recently with a dedication mass officiated by His Eminence, Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales. After more than 10 years, the chapel has moved to a bigger, more spacious place in the mall.
Designed by Architect Gervasio “Joey” Amistoso, the 1,700-sqm chapel is located at the mall’s fifth level in the Mega Atrium area, which is part of the mall’s ongoing expansion. It is the first area in the Mega Atrium to open, leading the way to the opening of its new upscale area later within the year.
The grand chapel has a modern architectural concept with the Eucharist as the focal point in the retablo or altar with the crucified Christ in the middle. The retablo is neo-classical in design, which contrasts with the modern theme of the rest of the chapel.
The color scheme of the area is earth-inspired using neutrals like beige and brown. Finishes are similar to stones used during the Roman Times, which gives the chapel a structurally sound impression, but in a soft and warm approach. Wood in its natural finish is the most common material used in the chapel. The Chapel of the Eucharistic Lord also has a separate adoration chapel and children’s room.
During the event, Cardinal Rosales awarded Mrs. Felicidad Sy with a pectoral cross for her efforts to help provide for the spiritual needs of SM’s shoppers and employees. Pectoral means chest and it symbolizes the ultimate relationship between Christ and the Cardinal, who usually wears it on his chest.
Cardinal Rosales, who said that the main purpose of building the chapel is to bring people closer to God, gave the cross to Mrs. Sy as a symbol of his close relationship with the Sy family.
SM was the first shopping mall to hold regular masses beginning with the opening of SM City-North Edsa in 1985. since that time, many families have started their Sunday gatherings by attending mass in the SM malls. The first chapel of the Eucharistic Lord was inaugurated in 1997, leading the way to the bigger chapel.
Members of the Sy family led by Mrs. Sy attended the rites together with SM officials.

thomasian October 20th, 2008, 07:54 AM Oh. Haha. Wee, it's open. I hope it doesn't disappoint. I'm eager to see the pictures. :)
Open? Yeah, but not really, only the fifth level was opened, and it's just for the Chapel of the Eucharistic Lord so it's the only tenant open in the whole Mega Atrium. But don't worry, the whole height of the circular-atrium of the Mega Atrium was not covered at all so you can get a glimpse of how the lower levels look like.
Sige na nga, I postponed easting breakfast and lunch to finish editing this picture. :D
Nothing really new, from this picture it somewhat looks quite like an economized (and circularized, if there's such a word!) version of its sister mall nearby, The Podium. But at least it adds a fresh, more upmarket look and feel to Megamall.

UP, Wikipedia is not a source/reference! Konti lang daw ang mapagkakatiwalaan sa net...
thomasian October 20th, 2008, 01:36 PM ^^ That's exactly the reason why I'm not happy with you guys posting those articles from Wikipedia in SSC. We don't want those articles quoted elsewhere as being posted in SSC. It doesn't bode well for SSC's credibility.

kennethologist October 20th, 2008, 04:28 PM SM opens modern chapel in Megamall
That chapel is recognized by The Vatican. It even has its own chaplain (kinda like the parish priest) assigned by the Archdiocese of Manila.
stanleymalls October 20th, 2008, 04:51 PM WAH! Ang ÜBER ganda naman ng Mega Atrium! MEGAng-MEGA!

If you check back on the construction updates for the digging of Eastwood Parkview twin towers, One Central Park, and The Eastwood Park -Hotel and Residential Suites, you'll notice that they've built below-grade a multi-level parking facility, not only for the Eastwood Mall, but also for the 4 aforementioned towers that sits on top of this mall.

The Venetian Mall will be constructed at McKinley Hills, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. :)
I'm sorry with my previous statement a while ago. I didn't realize that SM Malls are getting better with their design and this is evident with Mall of Asia, North Edsa and Fairview. What I am looking for is a classy design like the ones in Powerplant and Ayala Malls. But maybe SM is still targetting the masses. Knowing most Filipinos, if a place looks so high-end, maiilang sila.

Could be true. The commercial success of SM Megamall is partly attributed to its generic design. People from all walks of life would feel at home traversing its length... like walking through a park. Shangrila Mall used to be intimidating but much less so nowadays. Its foodcourt has the ambiance of SM.

I think SM never really had to necessarily target the masses, it is the masses that preferred them... I think the reason why SM is going for clean and generic designs is because it is flexible to whatever visual merchandising artistry they may whim... like a blank canvas kumbaga... SMs can go classy to colorful effortlessly yet bumabagay sa space nila lalo na every christmas... they did it all from icy blue to classy wreaths and they executed it quite nicely... try doing that to rockwell that only welcome jewel tones.
another advantage of having a clean design is it ages slowly... SMs that opened way back 90s still looks as trendy as it was a decade ago (at least on the inside) parang Shang... konting re-paint lang and yet it's still one of the classiest malls in the country.
take notice trinoma and greenbelt: in case you didn't notice, no matter how much we hail them as the prettyiest... those malls are having difficulties prettying up itself... it's always on constant renovation. (which is good... i guess) but it is starting to cost a lot... lalo na if they do it almost every 6 months (like we should care no!? mayaman naman sila eh  )

hehehehe...... SM Fairview ko.... almost doing fast.
The claddings are installed. The glass, ganda.
dapat kinukunan mo rin siya from behind... it has a 2 storey high glass wall at the back to compliment that ^^ glass wall on the front... complete with the new Arial-black version of the "SM city" logo. I'm still not confident it's going to open this year... maybe early or summer 2009. they have yet to decide what to put in "The BASEMENT"
what i like about this 2nd annex is that it stays loyal to the design of the original SM Fairview Building... it's blue and white! it's very contemporary yet blends well with the original than it's second annex that... well... looked very different than its mother ship

My eyes can see the back part, but not my cam phone.
OO nga noh. Blue and White. Pero I think they are hurrying up things. Siguro they are tidying up things. By December or January siguro..... O, may basement din?

hirolionheart October 29th, 2008, 02:07 AM Architects cite green design initiatives at SM conference
Source: Manila Bulletin
The SM Supermalls recently held a conference on Sustainability, Energy, and Green Design Initiatives at the SMX Convention Center. Spearheaded by the SM Supermalls' Environment Committee, the conference was aimed at providing a fresh view on how green design initiatives can influence sustainability and promote environmental preservation.
Some of the country's seasoned architects and engineers shared their views on the subject with SM's executives to bring more awareness on how these timely subjects can impact their mall operations.
Architect Lui Doyo-Garcia, principal architect of MLDDG and head of Green Materials of the Green Architecture Movement discussed the "Definition of Green Architecture and Sustainable Design."
Architect Joven Ignacio, assistant head of the College of Architecture of the University of the Philippines, gave an "Overview of Green Architecture: Culture, Tradition, and Materials." The lecture encouraged the audience to re-think ideas for green living in the context of life in the tropics.
Architect Ignacio explained what materials are, how these affect the surroundings, how these can be sourced, what recycling process these entail, and how everybody can contribute to healthy living.
Architect Mary Ann Espina spoke about "Landscape Architecture," and how this was important in sustainable design. In her presentation, she examined LEED and Sustainable Site Initiatives, two of the world's ongoing Movements on Green Architecture and discussed the principles, problems, and strategies relevant to landscape architecture design.
Architect Amado de Jesus, Jr. of AP de Jesus and Associates focused on the "Building Envelope" - walls, windows, and roofs, which are the first line of defense or boundary that separates the interior from the exterior. More than just being an attractive façade or providing protection from natural elements, the building envelope is an integral part of the building concerned with the safety, security, comfort, and work performance of its occupants.
Engineer Rosendo Perez, Jr. of DSM Energy and Efficiency Solutions, Inc. shared his knowledge on "Air Conditioning," giving the audience an update on its latest trends, as well as the drive to make technology more ecologically viable.
Engineer Eduardo L. Mendoza, chairman of the board of StratEngergy Solutions discussed "Lighting and Electrical Systems." He highlighted the concept of optimized energy management in sustainable buildings. He urged that these must not only incorporate heightened practices of energy efficient buildings, but must also take a responsible attitude towards the use of materials and resources and the use of the site to minimize its impact on the environment.
Architect Robert L. Meckfessel gave the audience guidelines on what to look out for to determine "How Green Is Your Building?"
The Conference of Sustainability, Energy, and Green Design Initiatives is one of the ways the SM Supermalls helps promote environmental awareness.

hirolionheart October 29th, 2008, 08:41 AM ^^ Flagship mall ba ang Southmall? :? Parang hindi ata :)
Yep, kasi 5th SM supermall ang SM Southmall, kaya nga hindi SM City Las Piñas ang name nito, konti pa lang kasi SM supermalls noon, nagsimula lang yung pagpapangalan ng SM supermalls according to their respective locations simula nung nag-sunod-sunod nang nagsulputan ang SM sa buong Pilipinas^_^
Naitayo ito April 1995, after ng SM West noon - SM City North EDSA (November 1985), SM Centerpoint - SM City Sta. Mesa ngayon (September 1990), SM Megamall (June 1991), at SM City Cebu (November 1993)^_^

evilgenius15 October 29th, 2008, 09:13 AM Hahaha! Simpleng SI units, nakalimutan na kagad!:bash::bash::bash:
Yeah, giga pala muna after ng mega at bago tera (...kilo -> mega -> giga -> tera -> peta...)
Wow, so SM Gigamall pala, halimaw ang dating, hehehe^_^
SM Gigamall
parang nagmumura lang eh no...:bash:

Yup yup yup, sunod-sunod din kasing nagsusulputan ang mga residential area (subdivisions/villages) sa San Mateo, kaya maaaring matuloy ang SM squared sa takdang panahon, hehehe:lol:

City is North EDSA
Centerpoint is Sta Mesa
Megamall is Ortigas
Southmall is Las Pinas

SM Southmall is officially SM Southmall Las Piñas. SM Megamall is officially SM Megamall Ortigas :)
Parang ang pangit pakinggan kung SM City Southmall, parang there's something wrong. :D
Ewww, sobrang mali. Dapat TriNoma lang. Because it's the Triangle North of Manila. It's not just a mall, it's a landmark.

The latest was the P31.6-M Gross of High School Musical 3 in the Philippines. Here are the Top 10 Highest grossing theaters for the said movie.
1. TriNoma -> P2.03M
2. Power Plant Mall -> P1.58M
3. Alabang Town Center -> P1.46M

Sa naaalala ko, simula ng nahilig ako magbasa ng dyaryo (entertainment, 2003), pag nakakabasa ako ng mga movies na malaki ang kinita sa philippines, like matrix spiderman x-men, laging magkakasunod ang sm north, megamall and glorietta. ngayon parang narumble na :)

NOVEMBER 5 - PHILIPPINES
Quantum of Solace
mygz14 October 30th, 2008, 02:40 PM SM eyes 20-hectare property in Cebu for mall, IT buildings
Mall developer SM Prime Holdings, Inc. is looking at a 20-hectare lot within the South Road Properties for a planned shopping mall, hotel and two information technology (IT) buildings. SM Prime President Hans T. Sy said they were in talks with the Cebu City government, which owns the properties, through the latter’s marketing arm, the Cebu Investment Promotions Center (CIPC).
"Negotiations are still going on... We’re still keeping our lines open," Mr. Sy said in an interview during the launch of the north wing of SM City Cebu.
SM Prime originally expressed interest to develop the entire 300-hectare reclaimed property.
But the local government wanted to sell the lots to several entities who will develop large chunks of the property into industrial, commercial, tourism-oriented and mixed-use blocks. So far, Cebu City has received an unsolicited proposal from Filinvest Land, Inc. to develop about 50 hectares of the South Road Properties.
"What we wanted before was not okay. But it’s fine because we have this crisis now, although we’re not affected by the crisis," Mr. Sy said. "We are very much on track and we are still continuing with our expansion program," he added.
He said SM would build a mall on the 20-hectare lot. The company plans to introduce a mixed-use development in the area. "Definitely, [we will build] a mall and we’re looking at other developments. We’re always open for possibilities," he added.
CIPC Managing Director Joel Mari S. Yu said SM Prime officials had told him that the company would immediately build a mall, a hotel and two IT towers as soon it buys the lot. "That mall will be the second biggest in the Philippines, next to the Mall of Asia." I asked them where this confidence is coming from and they assured me that they know what they’re doing," he said. If things go as planned, SM Prime might submit its unsolicited proposal to the city government in the first quarter of 2009, he said.
The city government’s joint venture selection committee, created to evaluate unsolicited proposals to develop the South Road Properties, is now evaluating the Filinvest proposal.
Filinvest wants to buy a 13-hectare lot for about P2 billion and jointly develop it with the local government into a mixed-use commercial center that will include recreational facilities, residential condominium and IT buildings.
Mr. Yu said they hoped a bidding would be held before the end of the year to accommodate other developers who might offer a better deal. The sale and development of the South Road Properties will allow the Cebu City to pay amortization and interest for a P5-billion loan from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation. It obtained the loan to reclaim the property, which has since been registered as a special economic zone with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority. — Marites S.Villamor

Bale, give way muna sa SM City North EDSA tapos SM Mall of Asia naman ulit.
