I saw a second Gucci opening soon in Shangrila Plaza.. Is it going to be a stand alone boutique or just a part of a department store??..

Probably nope, it won't be a standalone. It's part of Rustan's since it's inside Rustan's. The ground floor's having some remodelling. See the new Lacoste and Zegna, for example.

SM Mall of Asia complex wouldn't be tagged a shopping complex---more of a mixed-use complex like Ayala Makati. Ayala didn't consider it's office and residential establishments as part of Glorietta/Greenbelt and same goes for MoA complex. Kahit nga yung One ECom center at Convention Center hindi nila sinasama sa GFA ng MoA kasi di naman talaga part of the mall - separate entities ito.

undestandable naman talaga na hindi dapat isama ang floor area ng Ecom at SMX. pero kung maglagay sila ng mga stores and shops sa casino complex pati na din sa Arena, idadagdag ba nila yun sa GFA? do you know if kasama na sa present GFA ng MOA yung san mig by the bay? malaking lupa din yun.
kapag natayo na yung mga hotels surrounding MOA pati na rin ang PAGCOR City, mas tataas ang demand for more shops..but yun nga, only time will tell.
pero sana ngayon na yun!

It was really designed that way. It's officially called Hotel Lobby.

^^ Wow... brings me back to the 80's. A&W, with that bear mascot of theirs, was really a known burger chain in the 80's. Their flagship resto is in the old SM Annex before but I thought they just folded up since I don't see any A&W resto in other places nowadays. Good thing they seem to be reviving it in the new SM Annex. You gotta love A&W's rootbeer float.

Is it true that there is a new A&W in the new Annex?

I need to have a genuine Rootbeer Float!!!!!

Who owns the LV store here? It's not in the list of SSI's brand directory:
http://ssigroup.com.ph/ourbrands

LVMH mismo. ayaw nila magpa-franchise ata. at least that's what my friend (who's an area manager ng SSI) told me.

Five SM malls honored for energy efficiency

15 Dec 2008
Source: Business Mirror

Five SM Supermalls were honored recently with special awards in recognition of their outstanding achievements in energy efficiency and conservation.

SM City North EDSA, SM City Sucat, SM City Sta. Mesa and SM City Manila received top honors in the Don Emilio Abello Awards for Energy Efficiency 2008 while SM Mall of Asia was cited as the Philippine Entry to the ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices for Buildings held at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City on last Dec. 12.

These five SM Supermalls were recognized for their energy savings that amounted to approximately P38 million. The award also cited SM engineers Teodoro S. Bautista, Charles L Singson and Teddy G. Mueca as outstanding energy managers for their overall contribution to improve best practices towards the efficient use of energy.

SM Supermalls believes that it has an important role to play in ensuring responsible ways to conserve and maximize the use of energy. Their programs towards sustainability, energy efficiency are handed from the top and fully supported by Hans T. Sy, SM Prime president.

SM Supermalls environment programs are practiced not only by their people but by their tenants as well with their recent hosting of a conference on sustainability, energy and green design initiatives for employees and business partners.

SM recently received the top award for the 2008 Philippine Chamber for Commerce and Industry E3 Award (Excellence in Economy and Ecology) for its environment initiatives which highlighted their energy conservation efforts and sustained economic growth.

The Don Emilio Abello Awards for Energy Efficiency in partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE) and private sectors recognizes agencies and establishments with outstanding performance in energy conservation and efficiency in government, business, and industrial sectors.

^^ I was able to visit The ANNEX as well and it has the MOA ambience because of the similarity in the design of the stores. What impressed me are the LCD advertisements right smack in the columns. Savemore Supermarket is merely a clone of the SM hypermarket and supermarket, but a lot lot smaller. The sound system and the design of the escalators are pretty impressive. But only a few shops are open. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

SM Mall of Asia named ’08 shopping center of the year
Companies
Thursday, 18 December 2008 00:04

THE SM Mall of Asia recently received the Philippine Retailer’s Association’s Shopping Center of the Year Award during the 2008 Outstanding Filipino Retailers and Shopping Centers of the Year Night held recently in Ortigas.

In a statement, SM said this is the third time that an SM Supermall has been cited by the PRA since it launched the award in 2002.

SM City Baguio was cited in 2005 and SM Mall of Asia also last year.

Envisioned as the premier destination mall in the Pacific Region, the SM Mall of Asia has raised the standards of shopping, leisure, and entertainment in the country. Located in the Bay City development on Roxas Boulevard in Metro Manila, it has a gross floor area of 400,000 square meters.

The complex consists of four buildings linked by elevated walkways with a total of 600 shops and 150 restaurants.

Since it opened its doors to a record one million customers during opening day in May 2006, the mall which SM Founder and chairman Henry Sy, Sr. has called “the greatest project of my life,” created a lot of excitement in the local shopping center scene.

SM — serving millions

By the Staff
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 04:50:00 12/17/2008

When the retail (and property and banking) group SM says it serves millions, it’s not kidding.

That’s why it deemed it appropriate to use “Serving Millions” as its theme to mark its 50th year of doing business.

Want to know how many pairs of shoes were sold by the SM Department Stores in 2007? More than 21 million. How many people came to SM malls during the same period? More than 900 million. How many meals were served in SM food courts and restaurants? Over 400 million. How many moviegoers relaxed and watched movies at SM Cinemas? More than 18 million.

SM also came up with some interesting figures for specific products.

Last year, 50 million kilos of chicken filled SM Supermarket customers’ shopping carts. More than a million umbrellas were sold by SM Department Stores and about 15 million Christmas lights and ornaments from SM brightened up Filipino homes over the holidays last year.

And one finding that gives the Sy family joy is the fact that 25 percent of its SM Foundation college scholars graduated with honors last year. Tina Arceo-Dumlao

Receiving the Shopping Center of the Year Award for the SM Mall of Asia from the Philippine Retailers’ Association are SCMC president Annie Garcia, SM’s AVP for Mall of Asia Complex Steven Tan, SM Prime Holdings Inc. president Hans Sy, and SM City Pampanga’s mall manager Roman Palo.

The SM Mall of Asia recently received the Philippine Retailers’ Association’s Shopping Center of the Year Award during its 2008 Outstanding Filipino Retailers and Shopping Centers of the Year Night held at the Crowne Plaza in Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

This is the third time that an SM Supermall has been cited by the PRA since it launched the Shopping Center of the Year Award in 2002. SM City Baguio was cited in 2005, and SM Mall of Asia also won last year. Winning the award for the second time, SM Mall of Asia is already included in the Hall of Fame for consistently bagging the award.

Envisioned as the premier destination mall in the Pacific region, the SM Mall of Asia has raised the standards of shopping, leisure, and entertainment in the Philippines.

Located at the scenic Bay City development along Roxas Boulevard, it has a gross floor area of 400,000 square meters, making it the third largest mall in the world.

The complex consists of four buildings linked by elevated walkways – the Main Mall, the North Parking Building, the South Parking Building, and the Entertainment Center.

With over 600 shops and 150 restaurants, it is the ultimate shopping experience.

The Main Mall includes shops and restaurants, the Food Court, and the Country’s first Olympic-sized ice skating rink.

The South Parking Building houses the SM Department Store, while the North Parking Building includes the SM Hypermarket, two of its major anchors.

The Entertainment Center Building offers a spectacular view of Manila Bay from its trendy row of restaurants.

The country’s first IMAX Theater is another attraction in the Entertainment Center, as are its 10 cinemas, including Director’s Club for private viewing, and Centerstage for live performances.

Getting around the mall is easy. A tram takes customers around the perimeter of the mall, while the elderly and handicapped can use golf carts in the mall.

The SM Mall of Asia has 5,000 indoor parking slots, as well as outdoor parking facilities for customer convenience.

A transport terminal servicing destinations in Metro Manila and other areas in Luzon, as well as a taxi bay, make traveling very accessible.

Since it opened its doors to a record one million customers during opening day in May 2006, the mall – which SM Founder and Chairman Henry Sy, Sr. has called “the greatest project of my life” – has created a lot of excitement in the local shopping centers’ scene.

It has also grown to include a fully computerized Bowling Center, and more recently, a Science and Discovery Center that includes a planetarium and the world-class SMX Convention Center.

1. The Block
2. The Annex
3. Sky Garden
4. City Center - yung main mall, nakita ko kasi sa mga sign sa The Annex kung saan may arrow (pointing to the main mall) tapos City Center ang nakalagay:colgate:

Kala ko ang itatawag: The Main, hehehe:lol:

undestandable naman talaga na hindi dapat isama ang floor area ng Ecom at SMX. pero kung maglagay sila ng mga stores and shops sa casino complex pati na din sa Arena, idadagdag ba nila yun sa GFA? do you know if kasama na sa present GFA ng MOA yung san mig by the bay? malaking lupa din yun.
kapag natayo na yung mga hotels surrounding MOA pati na rin ang PAGCOR City, mas tataas ang demand for more shops..but yun nga, only time will tell.

1. City Center
2. The Block
3. The Annex
4. Sky Garden

Naku, marami pa kasing saradong shops sa The Annex...
LGF - Ace Home Builders, Bacolod Chicken Inasal, Bowling Center (pero sarado pa), at iba pang soon to open shops
UGF - Toy Kingdom Express, BDO, Save More Market, etc. na soon to open
2nd - (Wala akong matandaan...)
3rd - KFC
4th - Cyberzone

Cameras, I guess. The more obvious the more attention you'll get of course. I wanted to argue that it's another one of those inconsistent policies or quirks but I just wasn't in a mood then. It's probably a hangover from martial law and 9-11.

well for me, sa overall design, winner pa rin ang trinoma. opinion ko lang to (baka may mag violent reaction eh). first observation ko sa redevelopment ng SM NOE, when you're standing in the sidewalk in front of SM NOE, facing the mall, you will not be able to appreciate its architecture kasi naharangan ng Sky Garden yung view, puro kotse lang makikita mo, parang ang sikip sikip. unlike sa trinoma, you will be able to see and appreciate the design of the mall from the sidewalk. tsaka yung sky garden, i think will not be as grand as the trinoma park, masmaganda ang location ng trinoma park di tulad ng sky garden na mababa lang tapos dinig mo pa yung mga sasakyan sa edsa. then sa loob ng mall, mas wide ang mga hallway ng trinoma kesa sa SM, even dun sa Annex.

I wanted to argue that it's another one of those inconsistent policies or quirks but I just wasn't in a mood then. It's probably a hangover from martial law and 9-11.

It is bawal to take pictures of the mall due to the following reasons:

1. copyright - after all it is SM property...
3. privacy - by taking pictures publicly you may endanger/humiliate persons ...some people may not want their pictures taken in public na maiinclude in your photographs... may legal implications din yun.

so basically SM only allows accredited photographers to take pictures of their malls... and they pay big(?) and is willing to open the mall exclusively for the photoshoot. if you're a hobbyist, you must obtain a permit and a valid reason why you want to take pictures of their properties... para mas sigurado, you can ex-deal and take pictures and give SM some rights to your photographs :D

...pero dahil SSC tayo, you can disregard this post and continue taking pictures to update the world!

Taking Photos Publicly...
Copyright/Privacy i agree...but safety?

I totally disagree on that Security point, because, it's a public place in an enclosed space. Meaning, if ever masamang loob ang gusto maghasik ng lagim, edi pasok nalang sa mall, no need to take photos, memorize na nila agad ang place, joke. I hate it when these "guards" say that. Excessive time on their hands/security boredom complications if you ask me.

South China Mall

South China Mall (simplified Chinese: 华南MALL; pinyin: Huánán MALL) in Dongguan, China was the largest mall in the world.[1] It has leasable space for over 1,500 stores in approximately 6.5 million square feet (600,000 square metres) of total floor area.

This mall has seven zones modeled on international cities, nations and regions, including Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Venice, Egypt, the Caribbean, and California.

Although the mall opened in 2005, it suffers from a lack of retailers. Much of the retail space remains empty, with 99.2 percent of the stores vacant.[2] Many analysts say that the main reason the mall is so far largely unoccupied is that it is located in the suburbs of Dongguan, which means that it is only practical to travel there using a car. The mall was scheduled to close in July 2008.[2]

SM North Edsa dethrones Mall of Asia as RP’s biggest

By AFP with Jenniffer B. Austria, 12 Dec 2008
Source: Manila Standard Today

The world’s third biggest shopping mall opens in Quezon city tomorrow, a vote of confidence in the economic prospects of the Philippines amid a global economic crisis, its owners said yesterday.

The launch of the 90,000-square-meter annex will make SM City North Edsa mall the third biggest in the world with a gross floor area of 425,000 square meters, SM Prime Holding Inc. said in a statement.

The company, a holding firm of the country’s richest Henry Sy, also owns the world’s fourth, seventh, and 11th biggest malls.

SM Prime president Hans Sy said launching the project amid the global crisis “speaks of how we view the longer-term prospects of the country.”

The Asian Development Bank forecast on Thursday that Philippine economic growth would slow to 4.5 percent this year and to 3.5 percent next year after a growth of 7.2 percent in 2007.

Hundreds of Filipinos employed abroad, part of a huge number of workers who remit the equivalent of 10 percent to the country’s gross domestic product to their families back home every year, have lost their jobs, the government said.

SM Prime said tenants have signed up for 70 percent of the leaseable space in the six-story extension to SM North, which is called The Annex, SM Prime said.

SM Prime has recently opened three other malls—SM City Marikina, SM Megamall Bridgeway, and SM City Rosales in Pangasinan—with a third, SM Baliwag in Bulacan, also set to open today.

SM City North is also opening another addition, Skygarden, next year, and that should add a few thousand square meters more to its size.

Following are the world’s largest malls:

* South China Mall in Dongguan, China - 1st
* Jin Yuan in Beijing - 2nd
* SM City North in Quezon City, Philippines - 3rd
* SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, Philippines - 4th
* Dubai Mall in the United Arab Emirates - 5th
* West Edmonton Mall in Alberta, Canada - 6th
* SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City, Philippines - 7th
* Cevahir Istanbul in Turkey - 8th
* Berjaya times Square in Kulala Lumpur - 9th
* Beijing Mall in Beijing - 10th

No. Our malls cannot be compared (but i think i just did hehe) to the European malls that's why I'm saying that we don't have the most beautiful malls. Even the most beautiful Philippine mall will bow down to Siam Paragon/Central World of Thailand. But we have some of the biggest in the world and we should be happy about that. ;)

I think the "Mall Capital of the World" still is the U.S. They still have the most number of malls. A figure has been posted in a previous thread. :colgate: but "Giant Malls Capital of the World", the Philippines could be a great contender. (I personally believe the Phils. already is) and even for the "Best Shopping Haven for Asia/Southeast Asia".

Gorgeous pictures! :okay:

I like what they're trying to do with wave-like facade, but the construction reveals it's still a plain box underneath and that the wave patterns are merely ornamental. I wish the interior would have been shaped by the curves of the facade, so there would be a more interesting interaction between the interior and exterior but I understand it's probably due to the cost.

Kung matapos na Sky-Garden its exteriors would rival that of Greenbelt's dahil sa detail...let's just wait and see 2009-2010.

Yung main mall renovations paterned din siguro after "the annex' but with much more expansive so expect a more dyanamic/grand layout.

I believe the mall spotlight for 2009-2010 will be on SM NoE...kasi the original is still the best

Link mall? isnt it just a parking building ?? also, look at the surrounding, so dark and old esp The Landmark and not a single streeet light in that area! :( this is also the thing with ayala malls, they fail on exterior aesthetics especially lighting. look at how well lit the roads around like greenhills and araneta center, and then recently robinsons midtown.

i like the filipino detail that they tried to infuse to that lobby... it's really beautiful... the idea is great... it's like "Trinoma's Sossy Portal" it's directly connected to its atrium where most of the "high-end" stores are. what i don't like about it is it gives false hopes to mall visitors. it's like you're entering a posh mall and then when you start working your way up the mall... well... the grandeur disappears. there's no consistency and shows how mis-designed trinoma' interiors are as a whole.

it's actually one part of the mall that was recently renovated... originally it sported the original trinoma interiors. it was closed off to people when trinoma had its soft opening.

1. City Center
2. The Block
3. The Annex
at
4. Sky Garden

^^ GLASS, GLASS, GLASS.

^^ You sound like a troll to me. :| Pardon me if I did. But Link Mall is gorgeous to take pictures on, especially at night. And don't underestimate be it a parking building. It may look like a big box out there, but it serves its purpose and aesthetically pleasing.

Ayalas, failing on exteriors? WTH? :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: An award winning mall, fails on its exteriors? Whatever!

You just can't appreciate Ayala, don't you?

careful with your words it might incite strong reactions from foreign visitors. our tourism is way below our neighbors, so lets be a little humble. sure, our shopping is great to an extent and known the world over but cmon seriously .... lets just not take patriotism blindly

and also, everyone has the right to express their opinion. what u said about me isnt quite proper. also, am i wrong to say that the link is a parking building because it really IS. ask people to classify what tye of structure it is. dont take me wrong, i really like the LED lighting it gives during the night, and in fact i requested it to be put on the international forums under manila.. hey, lets make this a forum for balanced opinions okay?

I beg your pardon for the things I said. Its just that I don't like the way you say things. I may have some misunderstandings at times, but I don't want the issue to go further. So from here, let's make peace, since it's Christmas! :D

You are not wrong about saying that the Link is a parking building. But I guess I was really caught up by the no streetlights thing and The Landmark Makati being old, and be beside it is the Link. Besides, Ayala will be redeveloping the whole Ayala Center, so in the near future, you can enjoy a new and fresh clean look of the whole Center.

I also know that malls in BKK are far more sossy than ours.

Clean, sleek, modern, and trendy. :okay:

Our malls may not be as flashy as those in BKK, but our malls have been recognized to be the biggest in the world, if not the best. :)

Our malls have a homey feel, that's why families flock every weekends to dine, shop or just stroll around SM, Ayala, Robinsons, and the likes. :okay:

Thank you also for criticizing me for my posts. :)

Merry Christmas to all!  :cheers::cheers::cheers:

it's like you're entering a posh mall and then when you start working your way up the mall... well... the grandeur disappears. there's no consistency and shows how mis-designed trinoma' interiors are as a whole.

it's because they have
different themes for
different sections of the
mall.

trinoma was never marketed
as a posh or high-end mall
in the first place.

people from class C,D,E will
feel intimidated pag everything

it gives false hopes to mall visitors. it's like you're entering a posh mall and then when you start working your way up the mall... well... the grandeur disappears. there's no consistency and shows how mis-designed trinoma' interiors are as a whole.

it's actually one part of the mall that was recently renovated... originally it sported the original trinoma interiors. it was closed off to people when trinoma had its soft opening.

In my observation, TriNoma officially started tacky, like it's huge cement plant or something, then just recently, they are adding some touches to their interiors, like in this lobby.

What i'm saying is that, to build the mall they need 7B pesos, they finished it with just 3.5B, then they waited for SM's redevelopment then used the latter 3.5B for finishing touches.

I'd say TriNoma's *strike back* with nearby SM North EDSA has just begun, i can't wait for it to completely finish.

i just thought that trinoma is one big experiment... puro trial and error... the first half of the year, they went "greenbelt 5" they installed those reflectors and the huge lights on their atriums... then 6 months later they decided to go minimalist.... i mean if you only have 3bn to build a mall, they should've finalized their designs a long time ago than doing it when the mall is open.

I Actually don't believe class CDE would feel intimidated by something grand and expensive, the main reason why trinoma is a success is because of it is grand and expensive marketing (just look at the images used to promote that mall) kaya nga namumutiktik sa class CDE the Trinoma...

but before we bash our best-friends, class CDE is not as jologs as we think they are, when it comes to taste, they actually look for something that have a sossy branding... that has been proven a lot of times!

Same here...Central World and Paragon wasnt really that impressive in my opinion (trying not to be Bias here). I like the feel of MoA or Trinoma better (or maybe I am bias ). One of the best mall I've been in in SEA is The Pavillion in KL Malaysia. Classy and it feels roomier. Brighter, not crowded and very relaxed feel on the upper floors. But we still have the biggest malls in SEA...haha!!!...MoA bay front is cool as far as Im concerned :okay:

^^ both correct. trinoma was designed to accommodate all classes.. that's why it looks somehow different per floor/sections. ayala malls generally targets the upper class - mid class though, but in QC the masa wins. so they must target both the upper to middle class na bumibili, and also accommodate the lower class spectators (who usually only buy food).. they are still experimenting in the lower levels of the mall since they are not yet experts to target the masa... but look at the al fresco restaurants at the garden area, it never changed, since they work and they target the right market..

now, sm north edsa realized that their upper-middle market is being eaten by trinoma, so they created the sky garden with the posh new annex, since the block will not be enough..

and marketing is a trial and error process since the market changes..

I Actually don't believe class CDE would feel intimidated by something grand and expensive, the main reason why trinoma is a success is because of it is grand and expensive marketing (just look at the images used to promote that mall) kaya nga namumutiktik sa class CDE the Trinoma...

but not in the case of Serendra,
Bonifacio High Street and
Greenbelt. Class C might still be able
to shop in these places but i
don't think classes D&E have the
luxury to indulge themselves. they
wouldn't even dare browse the items
in Balenciaga or Gucci, would they?

but anyway,
libre naman mamasyal at
mag window shop, di ba?

in Trinoma's case, it has everything for
everyone. it targets people
from all walks of life. add to that
the slum colony just a stone throw away.
