Thanks, for the pics, Kuya! :okay: :)

Thank you too. Anytime, lil bro...

i was... i bought a cake that time... the magic of having a mall near you

...SM Fairview looks so MoA-ish on this shot.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/mbassy2003/MoA/moa2.jpg

Kaya lang halata yung discontinuity niya... Iba-iba yung character niya. I imagine that from above, it would look like a hook or a question mark. Dapat siguro pag-isahin man lang sa color scheme.

It looks weird kasi puro structures palang at unfinished pa. Definitely SM North Edsa will have the Most Extravagant Mall facade for me...

Sana after the renovation of the City Center's interiors at Imax, lagyan din nila ng theme park at ice skating rink sa iba pang areas for expansion...Based on one of SM's previous press statements they mentioned that they want to expand SM North Edsa to become the World's Largest Mall...It's not far from happening kasi nakikita nating inch by inch tumataas ranking ng mall sa Largest Malls List.

There is still space behind the old Ace Building or the old ace building can be demolished to house another Annex with the ice skating rink. May unique feature naman ang SM North - yung SkyGarden is a 1st of its kind among all SM Malls

But SkyGarden is just like a mini version of SM Mall of Asia's Entertainment Mall beside the bay, i think. And rumors says that the Legend of SM Sta Ana would have its own SkyGarden, which is really in the "sky". And speaking of SM Sta Ana, can anyone confirm on this? Is it true or a hoax?

I don't the like the restrooms of Trinoma cinema. Instead of individual bathroom sinks eh nagtipid at ginawang looong tiled sink with several faucets.

But SkyGarden is just like a mini version of SM Mall of Asia's Entertainment Mall beside the bay, i think.

The SM North Edsa Sky Garden will have a denser plantation, more elaborate lighting, & a better tailored landscaping scheme than the entertainment mall/san miguel by the bay of SM MoA - that's why they even hired the landscaping specialists ,Arquitechtonica-GEO for its design.

The SkyGarden will look more like an elevated Greenbelt Park with all fresco dining establishments & a centrally located Ultra Modern Amphitheater which will really look unique among SM Malls. It will give SM North Edsa a distinct look among all SM Malls.

Now if only the surrounding areas of Trinoma and SM North Edsa would undergo a revamp as well. That's why I like SM MoA - you could dine outside and the views are awesome.

Regarding the Sky Garden, let us first see the finished product before judging if it failed or not. Maybe tall trees around the perimeter and soothing music blasted from speakers could provide the necessary distraction from all the noise outside.

If you guys remember pre-Trinoma days, ganun ang setup nila (may glass panel lang for "a bit of" air and noise pollution protection) and yet napupuno nila ng tao kapag Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights ang al fresco cafes noon sa harap ng SM Main Building aka "City Center" katabi nung Botanical Garden. Like iyong Bo's Cafe and the other cafe (na di ko na maalala kung alin) na ang location eh sa mismong kinalalagyan ng waterfalls ngayon plus iyong sa kabilang mall entrance na tapat ng billboard ni John Lloyd...

The fact is, maingay man iyong area or panget ang design ng Sky Garden... dudumugin yan ng mga mallrats na gustong tumambay at uninom ng kung ano-ano at medyo nalalayuan sa Trinoma from the areas of Bago Bantay, Roosevelt/SFDM, Veterans Village at Project 8/Congressional.

yung iba lang peke...anyway para sa akin mas garden parin yung TriNoma...Over-commercialized yung garden ns SM NoE pero in that aspect naman pumapatok SM. Their goal is to really make money under the guise of a nature park.

No doubt for me the Sky-Garden will be a hit "commercially" among shoppers because of the various dining/entertainment options. Pero as a "lush/garden" getaway I don't think so kasi di nila sinunod original plan ng architectonica. sa original landscapeing plan mas conti yung structures at mas maraming green areas.

Personaly this Sky-Garden is more lika a "Grand Sky Lobby (with a garden) as opposed to be just a "SkyGarden". The comercial amenities are simply more prominent. I still love the Sky-Garden though because it gives SM City North Edsa a distinct look which it desperetly needed. It will give SM NoE a trademark look & theme that will separate it from other major SM's (Megamall & Mall of Asia).

I wonder how this design will work with the SM North. Will it complement SM NoE? Or it will destroy its beauty?

Wow! With the Grand Central Station being attached to SM City North EDSA, parang they stole the thunder away from TriNoma.

Kasi nga for years, TriNoma kept the MRT-3 Depot in their compound, thus effectively cutting the competition off from the MRT-3 traffic.

Now with traffic from MRT-3, LRT-1, MRT-7 and MRT-4 all converging at SM City North EDSA, this will become the nerve center of rail commuter traffic in the emerging Quezon City Central Business District.

i think this will be re-designed... This design was still based on the old SM North EDSA... i'm quite sure they'll do something that will compliment the new developments in this area.

Also, SM and TriNoma servers different walks of life. Since TriNoma is basically next door to the Grand Station, 100% walkable, it will compliment both malls. K? :) It's a matter of where you really want to go..

’08 local shopping defies global trend
By Cheche Moral
Philippine Daily Inquirer
01/01/2009

THE ax may have fallen on Wall Street in 2008, but not on Philippine retail, if you ask local retail executives.

If you’re among those who parked their plastic cards and steered clear of the malls and department stores following the global financial crisis, you would probably be scratching your head as retailers claim they didn’t feel the pinch. Not at all, they say. In fact they posted growth—double-digit growths —in ’08.

Retail giant SM Shoemart, according to Jorge Mendiola, senior vice president for retail, registered double-digit growth in sales in “October and November, which were the months when the crisis unfolded in a big way.”

The scene seems to have been the same in the local luxury market. “Our sales have been rolling over the past couple of months since this thing started,” Anton Huang said in an interview in early November. Huang is executive vice president of Stores Specialists Inc. (SSI) and its mother company, Rustan Group of Companies.

SSI distributes global luxury labels such as Prada, Gucci, Burberry, Tod’s, Salvatore Ferragamo, as well as mid-market brands like Zara, Marks & Spencer and Lacoste.

The two years following the recession in 1997, Huang recalled having had the “best years” for SSI. “We’re hoping that will remain the case… This one is much bigger than that and we’re aware of that. We’re banking on the fact that the local luxury market will be traveling less and shopping more here.”

Rustan’s posted a 13 percent growth in sales in the months of September and October, “ever since the changes,” Huang said referring to an internal reorganization in the family-owned company. Huang’s mother, Zenaida Tantoco, took over.

“When we speak of crisis, however, we think that it is two other crises—the rice shortage and the fuel crises—that had more impact on the Philippines,” said Mendiola. “With the rice shortage addressed and fuel prices lower, these have more or less been contained.”

In what seems to be an unorthodox move in times of crises, SM and SSI are expanding and opening more—and grander— stores in a big way.
Last month, SM unveiled the extension of its mall in North Edsa, now the world’s third biggest mall. (The country has three of the world’s biggest malls, all of them an SM.)

Early this year, SSI brought in iconic American brands Gap and Banana Republic. Next year, it will open stores for mid-market apparel brands like Massimo Dutti and Singapore’s Raoul in Greenbelt 5, and the French accessories label called Agatha. More important, it will launch the stores of Jimmy Choo and Hermes in Greenbelt 4.

Optimistic, too

It has also been an optimistic time at Crossings Department Stores, another family-owned enterprise.

“November sales [were] up, both in home and apparel sections,” said general manager Xandra Ramos-Padilla. “People are shopping locally. We’re in a very good position to address the needs of people in these economically trying times.”

Like other retailers here and abroad, Crossings held holiday sales to lure customers, understanding that no matter the economic situation, the Filipino wouldn’t cut down his or her Christmas list.

Ramos-Padilla said, “I can’t speak for the rest. But in the US, it’s the luxury market that’s suffering.”

That depends on who you ask, of course. According to Huang, “It’s a mixed bag. In the US, the mid-priced brands are suffering. If you talk to the luxury brands, they’re not seeing double-digit [growths] but they’re still growing. It’s not that they’re unaffected. They are, but not negative figures like the other [mid-market] brands.”

However, Ruby Gan of the boutiques Myth and Schu, said, “The high that we feel right now is artificial because of the holiday shopping. I expect a very slow first quarter of 2009.” Sales picked up in November, she admitted, but this may only be prompted by the holiday buying mood.

Her sentiment was echoed by Myth partner and fashion designer Randy Ortiz, who grimaced when asked in early December how sales was in the upscale Greenbelt 5.

But they’re not deterred. “We just have to patient and be pro-active,” Gan said. “Life doesn’t stop just because things have gone bad. We just have to learn to ride the waves.”

At Rustan’s, Huang said skincare and personal care brands have been selling particularly well, perhaps proving that if a woman can’t buy the Chanel bag, she would settle for the lipstick. Or maybe the face cream or the sunglasses.

“Whether in good or bad times, we try to give our customers an exciting one-stop shopping experience through our store in interiors, wide assortment of merchandise, and value-for-money proposition,” Mendiola said.

Kinda OT: I thought the extension was for the MRT-3 and not for the LRT Line 1? Also, I don't think Grand Central Station would be an apt name. That name should be reserved for the station which connects all train lines, but with the current setup, I don't think there could ever be a Grand Central Station?

What's the point kung ang luwag luwag nung circular part na iyon tapos sa katabing "masikip" na part ng EDSA ilalagay for the sake of linking the Sky Garden there?

OR

Make a longer version of the GRAND CENTRAL STATION to reach The Annex building, perhaps?

2nd:
It makes perfect sense to use just one track for LRT 1 and MRT based on the renderings/plans. If you notice sa Monumento and North Avenue stations... the trains/coaches need to switch to the other direction's tracks by moving a few meters onward (northbound after disembarking) and staying put for a good 2-5 minutes before proceeding back and let passengers in (southbound).. BASICALLY, it will do just that AND make the station compact (spacesaver!! hehe)

http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n122/queetz9/Miscellaneous/MRT.jpg

ALTHOUGH... I would recommend to have the same setup na nasa gitna iyong platform (like MRT Shaw, Boni, Buendia and Taft stations) to prevent commuters from moving/changing platforms just because they accidentally went the wrong way.

So far they're planning to connect 3-5 rail lines there... plus the jeepney and bus stations located along the EDSA side of Trinoma and under the soon-to-be completed SkyGarden of SM North Edsa.

Yes, probably after the completion of all those lines can we call it the central station.

Anyway, it would be better if it could not be named Grand Central Station as it would sound too much like Grand Central Terminal in New York. We've already copied Soho, Tribeca, Newport City, etc. We need to name it something uniquely Filipino, or at least, original.

Mang inasal soon to open at A1

evolution of sm malls... napaisip lang ako...:):):)

I can't imagine kung kaano karami ang tao sa SM North Edsa pag matapos yung Grand Terminal.

US firm to open call center in SM North

By Lawrence Casiraya

Filed Under: Technology (general), business process outsourcing (BPO)

MANILA, Philippines – Stream Global Services will open its first call center in the country in the newly renovated SM North in Quezon City.

The US-based firm, formerly known as Global BPO Services Corp., is constructing a 1,500-seat facility at the sixth floor of the newly opened SM North Annex.

The company will start operating its facility this June.

Stream Global operates a temporary site at the Allied Bank in Makati City.

With the newly renovated Annex SM North, which is located along the main EDSA thoroughfare, is now being billed as the world's third largest mall with a total area of more than 90,000 square meters.

SM has likewise attracted operators like TeleTech and companies like American computer firm Dell, which also operate mall-based facilities.

"Call centers like operating in malls because one, it is accessible for their employees because we have our transport terminals and two, we are able to satisfy their requirements in terms of food places, for example," said Annie Garcia, president of SM Shopping Center Management Corp. (SCMC).

SM SCMC operates 33 SM malls all over the country and is set to open a couple more this year including one in Naga City (in the Bicol region), according to Garcia.

come to think of it: SM Fairview is actually a direct competition of ALL MAJOR malls along EDSA, Even as far as SM Muntinlupa and Alabang Town Center (Yes, may sakayan ng SM Fairview dun!) of all other malls in the metro, no other mall compares to its power of accessibility. it was actually the pioneer of the "transport terminal" concept.

what's surprising about it is behind the big numbers it produces: it's a mall built in the middle of the "Talahibans"

SM City North Edsa doesn't belong to those "Wave Malls"...Sorry but for me walang kamukha yung exteriors at floor plan ng SM North. It is uniquely designed in it's own right like SM Mall of Asia & SM Megamall which are what we call an "Iconic Mall". There are only a few SM Iconic malls that paved the way for each decade. SM's Iconc Mall of the 80's was SM North Edsa, for the 90's it was SM Megamall and for 2000-2010 it is SM Mall of Asia. That's why these 3 Malls are the "Flagship Malls" of SM.

The wave roofing which dominates the facade of SM Bacoor, SM Iloilo & SM Fairview is a signature design of the "Triplet Malls" based on one template because of the Asian economic crunch of the 90's. This was also employed for the "Triplet Malls" of SM CDO, SM Davao & SM Pampanga. Although among those malls I can say that SM Fairview & SM Pampanga has really progressed & has been the torch bearer among the 2 groups of triplets. lol:

Stepping Up to the Big Time
By Mio de la Cruz
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 04:06:00 01/11/2009

A SMALL corner shoe store on Carriedo, a busy street in the populous district of Quiapo, seemed enough to fit the bill for “a business that would draw a steady income for my family.”

So reveals Henry Sy of the store he named Shoemart, never imagining that 50 years later, the venture would turn into the huge business empire that it is today. That empire would make him the country’s richest man and land him on Forbes Magazine’s list as one of the world’s wealthiest with over $3.1 billion in net worth.

By yearend of 2008, Henry Sy, fondly called “Tatang” by neighbors in Forbes Park, had built more than 30 giant malls all over the country, four of them listed among the world’s 10 biggest.

“SM North EDSA is considered the third largest, but it is actually number 2 now because the South China Mall, reputedly the world’s largest, had already closed shop,” explains Hans Sy, Henry’s son and president of SM Prime, the company’s flagship company. While the old man continues to relish memories of his past and achievements, his children continue to nurture his vision to provide employment for Filipinos and offer affordable products and services to their customers.'

^^SM North Edsa will be very hard to replicate & I don't think SM will copy it elsewhere simply because it will be extremely hard due to how large & expensive the Mall is. SM has only afforded to construct 1 flagship SM Mall like SM North Edsa for each decade (SM Mall of Asia in the 2000-2010 & SM Mega in the 90's). Kahit na magka-garden ang supposed "SM Sta. Ana"...that's the only noticeable new feature it will have common with SM North. Although SM Sta. Ana will be much smaller than SM NoE, it will still be a unique SM in its own right like SM Baguio, SM Marikina & the newer SM Malls. I think SM will never create "Triplets" anymore after the group of SM Fairview, Bacoor & Iloilo or the group of SM CDO, Davao & Pampanga.

i think the reason why SM did triplets is to address the issue of maintenance. they prolly thought back then that if they built similar malls mas mura siyang i-maintain. imagine: they could easily buy in wholesale spare tiles, paint, lights... etc and they wouldn't worry which goes where since iisa lang design. they could hire a single group of engineers or architects or artists to do maintenance and decors to these malls and save a lot of money for the same thing.... remember SM North shifted to SM Fairview's interior design 1st to update it, 2nd for the same issue of maintenance. but now they are bigger and have more money that's why they are able to explore new designs.

It's not really all about the name & I don't think it wouldn't change SM North Edsa's role among SM Malls - the mall is a class on its own & is on the same level as SM Megamall & SM Mall of Asia (malls that changed the malling lifestyle of Filipinos)...I mean look at West Edmonton Mall - It had the longest reign as the World's Largest yet its name hasn't changed. It is still the largest in North America even though "Mall of America" has a Grander name.

A name is just a name...what really matters is what the establishment offers. Kahit na maraming iba pang SM City, Iba parin talaga dating ng SM City North...It's name is already a staple for Filipinos.

Philippines’ Longest Mall - SM PAMPANGA

MEXICO — A long ribbon-cutting ceremony hoped to set a local (if not world) record will launch the country’s longest mall — the SM City Pampanga — at 10 a.m. on November 23.

The affair will mark the record of SM City Pampanga as the longest mall in the Philippines having a total building length of 668 meters. Composed of four connected buildings, the mall now has a total gross floor area of 128,089 square meters.

============================================================================
Since SM Megamall or SM NoE is very close in length, either of them can be the 2nd longest.

meron... SM Valenzuela is bigger than SM City Bacolod and SM City Baliuag....

and judging from my estimate, yung open area ng SM City Rosales, wala pa itong 60,000Sqm. So i think, the GLA quoted on the internet at 60,000sqm for SM City Rosales already includes the future department store and cinemas and the rest of the building that is still under construction.

SM NoE, Megamall, Mall of Asia, Southmall and SM Marikina can be the Metro Manila flagship malls...

They even form a cross. NoE in the north. Megamall in the center, Southmall in the south, MoA in the west and Marikina in the east

I don't think so.

Suggestions:

Sana umiikot yung globe sa tapat.

I hope doblehin nila ang parking spaces at gawing 12,000.

maraming halaman at puno pa sana.

at first i believed there was a flagship mall, but after alot of thought, i change my mind... There are no such thing as a "flagship mall" because each mall was designed according to study of the area and its demographics. for example: Trinoma, Ayala decided to do a mix of posh and masa because it was its niche market, the result was beautiful but that doesn't mean it's Ayala's flagship. another example: SM Mall of Asia, It enjoys scenic views of manila bay and is currently one of the biggest in the Philippines, but in terms of revenue: SM Fairview and SM Pampanga could easily beat the numbers Mall of Asia brings* that's not so flagshipish aint it?!

* SM Sources say: SM Pampanga and SM Fairview were one of the biggest sellers during the holidays. So big their numbers almost tie with the biggest selling SM North Edsa and SM Megamall. ever wonder why marami annex niya?!

Kung "Karapatan" din lang, SM North Edsa ay may karapatang tawaging "Flagship" dahil ito ang nagbigay ng pinakamaraming profit sa SM since it was inaugurated. Even before its massive expansion SM North Edsa has always had SM's biggest sales, foot traffic, movie ticket-sales, & store occupancy. I remember that sinabi rin ni Mr. Henry Sy at one time na flagship din ang SM North Edsa at kahit SM Megamall kaya depende lang ito sa okasyon ng interview.

SM City North Edsa is undoubtedly SM's flagship in terms of it's "Commercial Value". In a few more years the "Demand" will Sky-Rocket to even greater heights because of these 2 growth engines:
1. QC CBD (planned to be the country's largest)
2. LRT+MRT Grand Central Terminal (merging all the light rail transport in MM).

Emerging dev'ts in SM North Edsa include Grass Residences (the country's largest condominium complex) & the NorthPonte Residences. Other proposed dev'ts for the country's largest mall incl. the renovation of the previous ACE builders building & Cyberzone/Carpark building. As a matter of fact in one article before SM stated they have a long term plan to make SM North Edsa the World's Biggest (currently it is already the 2nd Biggest Mall in the World) so who knows what more facilities SM will build once the Grand Terminal & QC CBD are present.

SM Prime Opens SM City Fairview Annex
By , 14 Jan 2009
Source: SMPH
(14 January 2009. Pasay City, Philippines.) SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SM Prime) has scheduled the launching of the SM City Fairview Annex on Thursday, 15 January 2009. The annex will add 28,600 square meters (sqm) of gross floor area (GFA) to the main mall, increasing SM Fairview’s total GFA to 182,783 sqm. SM City Fairview is located within the Quirino Highway and Regalado Avenue area in Novaliches, Quezon City.

SM Prime President Mr. Hans Sy said, “With the expansion of both SM City Fairview and SM North EDSA, which also happens to be our very first mall, Quezon City remains to be one of SM Prime’s most important local partners, and continues to be a domain for further growth.”

It is estimated that the opening of SM City Fairview Annex will provide employment to close to 1,500 people which includes direct and indirect employees.

The SM City Fairview Annex has 19,100 sqm of gross leasable area and will have as its mall tenants Ace Hardware, Timezone, Grills, Chilly Willy’s, Sbarro, Breadtalk, Ford Motors, Center for Pop Music, All Flip Flops, and People R People, among others.

Last year, SM Prime launched SM City Marikina, the SM Megamall Bridgeway, SM City Rosales in Pangasinan, The Annex at SM City North Edsa, and SM City Baliwag in Bulacan.

SM stated they have a long term plan to make SM North Edsa the World's Biggest (currently it is already the 2nd Biggest Mall in the World) so who knows what more facilities SM will build once the Grand Terminal & QC CBD are present.

may space pa ba dun?

Hmmm...Ano kaya pwedeng ilagay dyan. More retail again? The lot looks big enough for any type of attraction though, sana "ahem" skating rink "ahem".

But IMO, it could just be condominiums.

Wala pa masyadong bukas na tenants kaya no comment muna. :)

The Annex/The Block of SM NoE, SM Mall of Asia, The Podium, Northwing SM Cebu at SM City Marikina.

^^
Ayala cannot just use and develop the vacant lots at trinoma easily.
Ayala is just leasing from MRT / LRTA properties.

Unlike SM NE, SM Prime owns the whole property of SM NE.
Mas malaki kita ng ng SM compare to Ayala. what Ayala earns from Trinoma still has to pay MRT / LRTA.

^^may article yung ayala noon na nagsasabing idedevelop nila yung remaining 5 hectares ng TriNoma into offices with some retail spaces. nasa 2009 press release ng projects nila for 2009 yung 19,000 sq.m. hypermart sa TriNoma.

ohh that looks nice and BIG!!! :D

For the nth time, I'm gonna say this again... I just hope we have more nice and peaceful malls like the Alabang Town Center :) Our malls get bigger and bigger and busy-looking too. :( My dream is that we'll have a mall with nature park/waterfalls at the center or even giant aquarium like the Manila Ocean Park. That's the best shopping experience for me...and not seeing electronic device shows, concerts and crowded people at the activity center. City life is already stressful and malls should somehow compensate for the lack of parks and gardens in the metro.

I commend TriNoma's Garden and SM MoA's San Miguel by the Bay. I wish we'll have more like these in the future.

Nice and peaceful yes...like a breath of fresh air, as you walk along the old Main Bldg is like SM North EDSA of the 90's shop's signs are outdated, and Annex 1 a huge interior to update the mall but still feels like EDSA Central and then, here comes Annex 2! Colors and lines will remind you of SM Marikina and The Block. Shops are the usuals from SM, some are open, most are opening in March 2009.

Unfortunately...the wing is kinda small, i was expecting it bigger as there are tons more space there for expansion, sa likod pala sya ng Annex 1 nilagay, but it's a beautiful addition none the less. :)

I dream of an underground mall for QC Circle. More of a promenade and art-culture gallery rather than a shopping center though there should be minute establishments for commerce. Above ground, I envision glass geometric solids similar to I.M. Pei's Pyramids du Louvre. Some of them would also act as skylights for the mall below.
