Ang bilis nagdeteriorate ng TriNoma. I came here in Manila around 2007, the whole mall at that time still looks fresh, but now, yeah, it turned out to be a big, ugly factory with the ever-present dim interiors. Naging masa-friendly nga siya but outside, it looks dayumn unpresentable.

They'd better clean the mall itself. Even the exhaust fans are turning black.

I'm just annoyed with the bridge pathway they're linking to the condominium units they're building. It's like they're invading public space. I might be wrong because they just bought the Golden Acres space, but they're crawling all the way to the DSWD school nearby.

translation: SM sends letters to all tenants before their contract with the mall expires... "following our new design parameters is prerequisite to the renewal of your contract with us" or in other words: renovate or scram

when cyberzone transferred from the carpark to the annex... ganun din. "your contract expires on this date, but you can avail of spaces in the new cyberzone." i'm sure those IT tenants at SM Fairview already received letters in that same tone since Cyberzone is coming. ;)

Just imagine how rich you should be to open a boutique at SM. you should have contingency funds when you get these types of requests from them

but there's something ali-mallish in the redesign of SM North... i just can't put a finger on.. it looks nice!

Does anyone here have photos of SM Hypermarket North Harbour?

SM Hypermarket North Harbour Serves 1 million Consumers
May 30, 2010, 12:55pm

SM Hypermarket North Harbour is now open, revitalizing shopping in the world’s most densely populated area. Serving approximately a million consumers in the bustling neighborhood of Manila, Navotas and Caloocan, SM Hypermarket North Harbour provides them with a holistic shopping experience where most shopping needs are satisfied in one go.

SM Hypermarket North Harbour has its own “modern wet market” in its Fresh section where consumers can shop among the variety of wet products offered in a more convenient setting—an air-conditioned place, clean aisles and precise weighing scales. Shoppers can also find toys, apparel, appliances, home furniture and techie gadgets. In addition, they can also go to Watson’s, Ace Hardware or Western Union for their medicines, home repair, or money transfer needs.

Consumers can also settle bills, exchange foreign money, and even take home roast chicken from the Rotisserie nook and fresh bread from the bakery stand. They are also given novel alternatives through the affordable house brand SM Bonus, which has over one thousand items to choose from, and the takal-takal section, which enables consumers to pick the ingredients they want at preferred and affordable quantities. Moreover, caterers and carinderia owners can get their supplies of meats, sauces, condiments and other ingredients found in the Big Packs area at very affordable prices.

Employment for locals, community outreach

When SM Hypermarket North Harbour opened, employment opportunities for the community were created. Local talents were tapped to build their career in SM, one of the biggest conglomerates in the Philippines. SM Hypermarket also gives small and medium enterprises (SMEs) a chance to showcase their products during the weekend bazaar as it allocates a certain area for SMEs to display and sell their products.

In effect, SM Hypermarket is now a community concept, reaching out to nearby barangays through various events and programs such as cooking demonstrations, songfests, and dance contests. This year, SM Hypermarket will be turned into a community store, not just a place to shop, but a place that shoppers can call home. This transformation happens as SM Hypermarket invests in people and business partners by providing jobs for the locals and business opportunities for SMEs in the community.

Yung sa Buendia /South Superhighway , dating Makro din yun na ginawang SM Hypermarket . Hopefully yung MAKRO Sucat /East Service Road Muntinlupa i-convert din , if not an SM Hypermarket , maybe a full fledge mall since it has quite a big space also and timely now that the Skyway Stage 2 is nearing completion and ang daming developments mushrooming on that area like LakeFront Central , Tribeca and South Escalades Robinson

Not to mention, the only reason we go there is Makro. From Alabang, we go all the way to Sucat just to be able to save money by buying from Makro. We frequent other the supermarkets in our place, but our bulk shopping is usually done in Makro. If Makro becomes an SM Hypermart or a mall, there would be no reason for us to go there anymore... plus there won't be a nearby Makro anymore :P (We'll probably do our bulk shopping in Puregold instead).

As for the people in Sucat, I'm not so sure if they'd rather have an SM Hypermart than a Makro. If I'm not mistaken, Makro is still cheaper for those who buy in bulk like us.

SM Prime to position Megamall as biggest
Tuesday, May 26, 2009
Chino S. Leyco, Manila Times

THE Philippines’ largest mall owner and operator said it plans to rebuild SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City into the country’s biggest shopping center.

On the sidelines of Sky Garden opening at the SM City North Edsa in Quezon City, Hans Sy, SM Prime Holdings, Inc. president, said the company will develop the 3-hectare parking lot in front of SM Megamall to expand the present gross floor area of the shopping center.

“After the renovation, SM Megamall will even be larger than North Edsa” Sy told reporters.

He also said the building of SM North Edsa, the company’s oldest mall in the country, will be also renovated this year. SM Prime said it plans to spend up to P2 billion to give the 25-year-old mall a new face.

Sy said SM North’s renovation will be completed by the end of the first quarter next year.

Of the P2-billion earmarked for the project, P600 million was already spent for the development of Sky Dome, a concert venue which may accommodate as many as 1,500 people, Sy said. In addition an IMAX theater will also be built within main the building of SM North.

AT present, SM Prime has one IMAX Theater at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, which is built for P300 million.

After the redevelopment of the entire shopping center, Sy said SM North will have a total gross leasable area of 445,000 square meters. The mall contributes about 12 percent to 13 percent to the entire revenues of SM Prime.

This year, the company is planning to open SM City Naga in Camarines Sur, SM City Rosario in Cavite and SM City Pamplona in Las Piñas. The mall operator is also set to expand SM City Rosales in Pangasinan.

By the end of the year, SM Prime will have 36 malls nationwide and three malls in China—SM City Xiamen, SM City Jinjiang, and SM City Chengdu—with an estimated gross floor area of 4.9 million square meters.

SM Prime has allocated P5.5 billion in capital outlay for its projects in China and P6.5 billion will be for the Philippine malls.

Super budgeted? If it is, then it is a big waste of money.

Only the old SM malls are super giant shoe boxes.

Honestly, I went to the Indian mall thread myself and saw that there actually are designs that are stunning, but the mall you posted just doesn't cut it for me. It looks like a generic mall in China (not that there's anything wrong with the design of their malls... they have a certain appeal, but they're just not my taste).

Now, obviously, design is always subject to taste. People from India might be ok with that design, but I think people here would settle for more minimalistic designs. I don't know any high-end mall in the Philippines that remotely tries to copy the style of the mall you said... this is precisely because we Filipinos generally won't find that kind of design "classy."

kung budget pa yan, sana di ganyan..eh ang design mukhang magastos at OA.anyone who says its nice (in the Philippine context) should seriously upgrade their taste  malay ba natin if may kahulugan ang design nyan sa india pero if sa pilipinas yan, ang tawag dyan OA na walang taste

^^even some of the newly built SM malls are still sticking to the "shoebox" type structure but incorporated some elements to make it look less "boxy".

IMO mas intuitive din kasi yung zoning ng SM by placing all tenants in a row than putting them around a central atrium (like rob and ayala malls).

:banana:SM DIGITAL THEATER NOW OPEN AT CINEMA 7:banana:

FIRST MOVIE:TOY STORY 3D

I was able to watch Toy Story 3 in 3D at SM Fairview and guess what! they charged only 250 Pesos, that comes with a complimentary popcorn or hotdog.
that's almost 50% less of what you'll pay if you watch at The Block or TriNoma. I just hope that's not the introductory price.

The cinemas retained the same layout but with new seats and carpeted aisles. their seats i must say are better than the ones at Megamall or Mall of Asia. I just hope it's stink proof. It sports an interior similar to North Edsa's IMAX only in circles. and halatang they wanted to open the thing in time for toy story cause it's obvious that the cinema is not that finished.

but at least there are updated cinemas, and it will definitely affect ticket sales of nearby QC malls once all theaters are done kasi people in Fairview who prefered watching movies at SM North or TriNoma (admittedly me) will surely revisit SM Fairview.

Robinsons to expand Galleria mall
LISTED developer Robinsons Land Corp. (RLC) is undertaking a major redevelopment project for its flagship Robinsons Galleria mall in Ortigas Center, in an effort to expand and modernize the shopping center.

In a statement, Gokongwei-led RLC said the redevelopment will expand Robinsons Galleria’s gross leasable area to almost 100,000 square meters (sqm) from the current 96,000 sqm. while the number of tenants will grow to about 450 from the current 395.

Full occupancy is expected by next year, RLC said.

“The ongoing redevelopment project will further enhance the appeal of our flagship Robinsons Galleria mall which is an integral component of the first mixed-use development in the area,” said RLC president Frederick Go in the statement.

He added that the mall continues to be the most strategically located since it is right at the intersection of Edsa and Ortigas Avenue.

Go said the project is also meant to meet the growing demands of its market which now includes working moms, employees of business process outsourcing companies, and residents from nearby residential condominiums and subdivisions.

“We are increasing space for retail outlets to make Robinsons Galleria more appealing to those who may want to look for a place to go to after work and also to accommodate new retail players and formats,” he said.

The bulk of the renovation and expansion works will be at the second level, including large areas currently used for parking, which will be developed into the Veranda. This area will have restaurants to cater to families during weekends and serve a place for professionals to hang out during weekdays and at night since these will operate beyond mall hours.

Renovation will also result in the creation of the Sports Loop and Jumpstreet, which are retail specialty zones catering to the active individuals and moms with young children.

The construction work will take a total of six months with the Sports Loop and Jumpstreet expected to be operational by September while the Veranda will be ready to serve customers by December or January next year.http://businessmirror.com.ph/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=26979:robinsons-to-expand-galleria-mall&catid=24:companies&Itemid=59

;58598409']Only the old SM malls are super giant shoe boxes.

I don't know any high-end mall in the Philippines that remotely tries to copy the style of the mall you said... this is precisely because we Filipinos generally won't find that kind of design "classy."uu nga minimalistic palagi naririnig ko sa pinas, condo units na pagpasok unang-una makikita CR at kitchen eh ang bentahan milyon anu ba yan...at heto naman, very much opposed sila sa spectacular designs kase minimal na may overcrowding ang dating ang gusto

You totally misunderstood what I meant by minimalist. Minimalist, for one, is the opposite of over-crowding. Minimalist design is not about being minimalist in space, it's about being minimalist in design - the type of design that doesn't have too many things going on.

If you're contention of a spectacular design is something that is not minimalist, you are free to think what you want. Do know, however, that the issue of whether a design is spectacular shouldn't have anything to do with whether it is minimalist or not.

For more information on what minimalist design is, feel free to read up on it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimalism . You may also google the term and look for better sources on the net. :)

Two-decade-old Robinsons mall to get a facelift

GOKONGWEI-LED property developer Robinsons Land Corp. is redeveloping its flagship Robinsons Galleria mall in Ortigas Center until early next year.

The facelift is expected to keep the 20-year old mall in step with shifting demands of customers. Bulk of the renovation and expansion work will be at the second level, where the parking lot will be converted into a veranda that will have restaurants to cater to families during weekends. It will also be a "hangout place" for professionals, the firm said in a statement.

"We are increasing space for retail outlets to make Robinsons Galleria more appealing to those who may want to look for a place to go to after work, and also to accommodate new retail players and formats," Robinsons Land President Frederick D. Go said in the statement.

With the redevelopment, area for lease in Robinsons Galleria will expand to almost 100,000 square meters (sq. m.) from 96,000 sq. m. Tenants will also increase to about 450 from 395. Full occupancy is expected by next year.

"The ongoing redevelopment project will further enhance the appeal of our flagship Robinsons Galleria mall, which is an integral component of the first mixed-use development in the area," Mr. Go added.

The renovation will allow the mall to cater to new markets, which include working moms, employees of business process outsourcing companies, and residents from nearby residential condominiums and subdivisions, the firm said.

Under the renovation plan, the property developer will create a "Sports Loop" and "Jumpstreet," which will host retailers catering to the "active individuals" and moms with young children, respectively. A new technology lounge will also be opened.

The Sports Loop and Jumpstreet are expected to be operational by September while the veranda will serve customers by December or January next year.

The property developer has allotted P9 billion for capital spending this year, of which 40% will be for the construction of new malls.

Shares in Robinsons Land, whose profits dropped by 2.78% to P926.92 million in the first quarter, were unchanged on Friday at P14.50 each. -- Neil Jerome C. Morale

SM group acquires prime property in Caloocan
Tuesday, November 3, 2009
Source: Philippine Daily Inquirer By Doris Dumlao
TYCOON HENRY SY’S SM GROUP has acquired a prime property in Caloocan City where an old Ever Emporium used to stand and use it as the new site of a P2-billion high-rise condominium development overlooking the Bonifacio monument.

In a recent interview with Inquirer, the tycoon’s eldest son, Henry Jr., who is vice chair and chief executive officer of SM Development Corp. (SMDC), confirmed that the group had bought the 5,000-sq.m. property, which SMDC will develop into a residential condominium but with some commercial component in the lower floors.

The property was bought from the family of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office Chair Sergio Osmeña Valencia, who had leased it to budget shopping mall operator Jose Go for the past 25 years, Sy said.

Sy said SMDC would undertake the development of the property as a high-rise residential development in the area and would find a good market among households living in nearby flood-prone areas like Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela.

Based on earlier reports, the unprecedented flooding in Metro Manila caused by Tropical Storm “Ondoy” has resulted in higher demand for high-rise residential units.

The SMDC chief added that prospects were bright for such development with the forthcoming extension of Metro Railway Transit 3, the elevated railway on Edsa, from West Avenue to Monumento. The extension will also pave the way for the linkage between MRT 3 and the Light Railway Transit 1 that runs from Monumento to Baclaran.

The group has yet to finalize a master plan for the Monumento property. The acquisition, however, was in line with its thrust of accumulating a significant urban land bank that could be used into residential developments to serve the growing demand for affordable housing.

The previous tenant operated in the site a 40,000-sq.m. multistory Ever Emporium, which was popular to low- to middle-income shoppers especially in the 1980s. It was the second shopping mall put up by Go after the shopping mall on CM Recto Ave.

The old Ever Emporium structure still stands at the original site now. But the change in ownership was heralded by giant tarpaulin posters on its main facade advertising SMDC’s latest condominium projects, complete with celebrity endorser Marian Rivera.

the last 3 days were the most craziest days for shopping addicts...

it all started Wednesday, June 30th, the start of the Zara Sale, then on July 2nd, a back to back event, The Topshop-Topman-Dorothy Perkins Private Sale and the grand opening of Forever 21 in Manila...

The 3 giants of retail did go head to head this week. SSI's Zara, Robinsons' Topshop and SM's Forever 21. ...so everybody's into specialty stores now! ahahahaha! I just hope those who love these brands still have money to spend for the next weeks. These events make Manila basically the unofficial shopping capital of SEA!

for those who are not aware of these brands please do check out their international websites. the guys who run these specialty stores do follow their franchise owner seriously that whatever they have on the international sites, we also have it here in some way or another.

the last 3 days were the most craziest days for shopping addicts...

it all started Wednesday, June 30th, the start of the Zara Sale, then on July 2nd, a back to back event, The Topshop-Topman-Dorothy Perkins Private Sale and the grand opening of Forever 21 in Manila...

The 3 giants of retail did go head to head this week. SSI's Zara, Robinsons' Topshop and SM's Forever 21. ...so now everybody's into specialty stores now! ahahahaha! I just hope those who loves these brands still have money to spend for the next weeks. These events make Manila basically the unofficial shopping capital of SEA!

for those who are not aware of these brands please do check out their international websites. the guys who run these specialty stores do follow their franchise owner seriously that whatever they have on the international sites, we also have it here in some way or another.

^^same with the malls in Macau... side by side with the casino. even Venetian's retail area parang ganyan din ang setup --- carpeted floors, lined with high end shops, mas formal yung theme with opulent designs.

^^ still can't figure out kung ano kaya ang magiging kalalabasan ng SM Fairview once done... the new colors they're now using sa interior and exterior seems to clash endlessly eg. Vivid Red vs Aqua Blue vs Brown vs Orange... :ohno:

guys, do you think papalitan pa yung ceiling ng SM Cinema Fairview?

Even in SM Fairview they started the renovation on the top floor of the department store. actually yung renovation ng Mandurriao Dept.
