As was written in local newspapers, the Tel Aviv City Hall is to undergo an extensive renovation which will also include building 2 additional floors to the building, making it a 16 floors building . the renovation will also include the expansion of the bottom floors and a connection to the neighboring "Gan Hayir" tower (http://telavivinf.com/prat/built/mig/ganhaer/page.html) .
I think It's about time ...

The city hall and the square look so sad. I swear, I would just rent a building in the city, move all offices there for a while ( god knows there is enough empty office space in the city!) , and meanwhile demolish the existing building, and build a larger, finer, more respectable structure, instead. And it would only cost some change. ;)

This is, by the way, exactly what is happenning in Netanya. Most city hall's departments have moved into several temporarily rented buildings in the new industrial area, and in the meantime a new city center is being planned, where the eventual city hall will be.
I agree completely that the current Tel-Aviv's city hall is a disgrace and merely renovating it is nowhere near what really should be done.

If the city hall gets a renovation which involves adding two more floors, shouldn't the building get a new facade?

They should simply tear down the whole thing.......
Its looks like an eyeesore....
They should tear it down, make it more sleak and effecient....

My favourite building for city halls is the one in Tokyo. Those twin towers.

^^You should have considered it before it became a landmark. It still needs a new facade you know, to make it less ugly?

^^ Hmmm normally city halls arent landmark. This is a good example.
It was built in like 65 or so...so im pretty sure we had ones before hand. Anyway, the area is not as eye catching, nor is the King of Israel Square ;)

I was reading on Wikipedia about plans to revamp it...but no cigar...

Still..its a center or protest and disputes rather than a mainsquare or a center of a city, eventhough its right in the core of T.A
