Hello! Second picture thread over the last days - but I took a walk today, so why not to share the pics with you?

I think, no tourists are visiting the far north-west of Riga. There is not that much to sooe, really. But something there is and you will see it.
Map for reference

We start with the Daugavgriva fortress - the largest fortress inside Riga borders. The history goes back to 12th century. Most of the buildings we see today refer to Russian Empire style from the beginning of 19th century. But not much remains unfortunately. Soviet army was located here for some 40 years. Over the last 15 years the buildings there stand empty - no one really needs them. Over the last year some small-scale restauration works have started without clear development goal.
You see on the map - fortress is not that small

Outer walls have serious stone walls along the whole perimeter.

Northern part - in the background seen some Stalin time building, renovated

Inner part of walls is in fine Empire style brick:

Some renovations, does not look like top-class works

Forgottten Stalin time building nearby

Afterwards I went to eastern part of Daugavgriva Island, where Lielupe river meets the sea. Formally this is Riga but the place is rather wild, it is little likely to meet any people there:
Lielupe goes into the sea

Look to Jurmala side. Yesterday there was a storm, some algae seen on the beach

Forest in dunes - looks like a park

Some buildings are in the western part of the island. Some wooden buildings are in Art Nouveau style, although look quite sad.

And now - to Kremeri. This is old fishermen village with a row of 18th - 19th century wooden buildings. The harbour now is wiping away these villages (Kremeri, Voleri, Kundzinsala) one after another.
Typical building in Kremeri. Nothing special but this is our past.

Coastal street in Kremeri with a look to distant city Centre. Asphalt laid over the cobblestone :(

Look over Daugava - container terminal in Kundzinsala island. These things are nearly 100 m high, I think.

Closer look to city Centre.

And look back to north, to harbour

Finally - closer to the centre. Old Riga airport (Spilve), built in 1950ies. Wonderful building stands without use. That yellow thing in front looks especially hideous.

Gray weather, sad views.
