Umeå - The city beetween the bridges
Umeå - Sweden

Snøhetta has won the competition “The City Between the Bridges” in Umeå, Sweden. The program consists of a new hotel with conference center and multi-function facilities as well as a long-term master plan strategy for the Umeå riverside town centre. The hotel is located on a new island boldly rising from the river and will offer a stunning vantage point for views out across the vast Swedish landscape. Along the town riverbank there will be four large structures, each covered by an expansive undulating glass roof that will contain a year-round extension of the riverside public park. These buildings will also contain shops, restaurants and a botanical garden, among other civic facilities.

Awesome tower for such a small city as Umeå ! The project looks really nice I must say ! :okay:

Umeå was originally supposed to be part of Finland after Sweden lost to Russia in war but the czar said that he didn't need it but Sweden did loose another important city in the north to Finland, Torneå (Tornio).

Seriously surprising tower for a Swedish city. Expecially for an average size one that far north.
Even tho they won I wouldn't bet any money on it actually getting built.
/jaded by other failed plans.

very cool, but i think as Swede. People here are to conservative, but its still a a nice thing. How high was it? Why cant they never build anything nice here in Uppsala? It's only 5 floor buildings all the time here :(

Umeå isn't that small. It got about 115 000 inhabitians. The biggest town in Norrland

It looks like around 28-30 floors, I would be surprised if it gets built, but you can always hope. It would create a nice little skyline together with Scandic Plaza (49 m) and Skandiahuset (39 m).

@Swede: LOL! :D

Don't know the height, will probably be presented to the public later.

I agree, but the architect company is Snøhetta, and perhaps the situation to the architect contribute for larger chance of sucess. Snøhetta is already world famous for Bibliotheca Alexandrina, New Oslo Opera House, Turner Contemporary in Margate, England and the WTC Museum Complex.

Wow, great tower for a "small" city like that. :)
Again, we have to hope that they'll build it.
