A world for women to be created at Dubailand by Al Muntaser Holding
Dubailand, today announced a unique new project that will add a ground-breaking new aspect to the varied facets of the region's most sophisticated entertainment, tourism and lifestyle project.

The latest iconic project to join the star attractions of Dubailand is 'Lemnos' – a high luxury world dedicated to women.

Al Muntaser Holding will develop the project. An agreement to this affect was signed here by Salem bin Dasmal, Chief Executive Officer of Dubailand and Sheikh Alal Al Fase and Sheikh Muntaser Al Fase, who represented Al Muntaser Holding.

'We are pleased to welcome Al Muntaser Holding to Dubailand. We have been discussing the project to create a 'World for Women' at Dubailand with them. We have been impressed with their professionalism and we are assured that Al Muntaser Holding has the vision and the necessary capability to transform that vision into reality,' said bin Dasmal.

'Dubailand is based on the vision of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence, to develop a unique and comprehensive international tourism destination where there is something for everyone – young or old, single or with family, man or woman,' added the Dubailand Chief Executive.

Vast complex
'It is our pleasure to develop this unique project, which will occupy an area of 1.65 million square feet in Dubailand,' said Sheikh Alal Al Fase, Chairman of Al Muntaser Holding.

'We expect our investment in Lemnos to reach AED 900 million by the time the project is completed. We expect to attract a large number of visitors from both the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and most other international markets – precisely because all the targeted facilities and once-in-a-lifetime experience will be provided at Lemnos,' Sheikh Alal added.

'The successful viability of this project lies in the confidence that has been generated by the growing international awareness of Dubai's capabilities and a high demand for alternative lifestyle and entertainment facilities,' Sheikh Muntaser pointed out.

Themed development
Providing details of the project, he explained that Lemnos will aim to provide to women – for the very first time in the world – an entire development that is dedicated to them.

'It has been named Lemnos after the legendary Greek city of Lemnos where women ruled as queens. Our Lemnos will be themed around this mythical Greek kingdom,' Sheikh Muntaser added.

Lemnos will feature a 5-star luxury hotel operated by one of the finest international luxury brands. The complex will have cinemas, art and dance studios, sports facilities, spas, fashion shows and banqueting facilities.

The complex will host world-class fashion events, as well as, a cosmetic care including plastic surgery clinics, a luxury shopping mall that will be dedicated to promote fashion and a women's-only water park.

'Even though lemons will be accessible to both men and women, there are specialist zones that are reserved strictly only for women,' Sheikh Alal pointed out.

Plastic surgery clinics in a "women's world"? What utter bullcrap.

Cosmetic surgery for no good reason is forbidden in Islam. They should not encourage such practices.

I'm sure the women's only waterpark will be crap compared to the other waterparks that aren't for women. Usually they make the worst things for women only, because only the Gulf women would want to go to a women only place. The rest of them will be having fun somewhere other than Lemnos, which sounds like a place for corruption.

I disapprove.

Separation is not a good practice.
But it does allow some freedoms that might other wise be imposed ?

A separate women's world could most likely mean that the rest of DubaiLand will not have a women's day once per week, as most other parks in the city.

That means the Lemnos waterpark will be the only park in DubaiLand accessible for women who want the place to themselves. It'd better be good.

Wild Wadi currently has a women's only "night" from 9 pm to 1 am on Thursdays, but everything is visible from Burj Al Arab.

WonderLand has Tuesdays allocated for women. I believe the Global Village has Tuesdays for women every year as well.

Few years back we had a mall dedicated for women only in Abu Dhabi. It was called "She Zone". The company Mark Link paid 400 Million Dirham for that shopping center and claimed that it had plans to open 12 more shopping centers for women in the UAE. She Zone was the first of it's type in The UAE, but it was a huge failure. The mall had very few visitors and the prices were very high and the cinema was in the size of a bed room. The name of the mall was changed then (I forgot the name) and became a normal shopping center for both sexes and I don't know what happened now though I heard that the other one also made losses.

We hear many women asking for special areas dedicated to them and when they are built, no one comes and business flaps out. I have read an article talking about failure of women shopping malls in Saudi Arabia and they lost 53 Million Dollars in those malls and the shops in them lost between 40 and 70 percent.

IMO this project could fail like the others. They could survive by making those places like others and not lower classes. In addition to that, they should maintain the prices to be just like the outside market and not more expensive for being in a special area.

I recall Al Manal Centre in Dubai was said to be a women's only mall. I was a kid at the time, but I thought that all the employees would be female as well, but it was full of male shopsellers. The mall was specialised in selling textiles and other such items, it wasn't a very huge success, but it's not bad and is still functioning.

The reason the mall fails isn't because women don't make use of it. It's probably because the initial design was wrong in the first place, or their marketing is bad. Usually, such places are also way too expensive and women who know how to shop and spend all day out would know that they're being ripped off.

I should have added that those malls I spoke about had no males except young boys who are less than ten years old. She Zone had police women at the entrance to check every visitor to be a female. It had a strict security. I also remember a funny incident written all over the local newspapers and the people "Ma Ga9eraw". When they caught a male that looked exactly like a lady in the mall and of course he wasn't straight.

Read some where a history about someone who accepted the challenge to sneak into a women wedding room, except that when the women found it out our brave friend started to receive shoes and chairs on his head:D:D:D

This reminds me of the first "Women Only Mall" built in Abu Dhabi around 7 years ago called "She-Zone Shopping Centre".

It went bankrupt after only a year.

Al Manal Centre was never a "women's only mall". It is still functioning for all the wrong reasons but then again it is a tiny mall in a cheap/low-rent area hence why it still exists.

ON-TOPIC: this project has FAIL written all over it.
