Matthieu December 22nd, 2004, 04:29 PM 9,5
zafiris December 22nd, 2004, 04:35 PM Nice walls. Not marble but the colour is nice and very clean. Interesting architecture features. Interior design below average. 9
OlekD December 22nd, 2004, 04:38 PM I can only add that the tower is 123 m high!!!
Matthieu December 22nd, 2004, 04:43 PM It's my prefered church of Poland so far.
What's with this Polish invasion of the forum? :) There are more Poles forumers here than I ever seen, you posted a link on your forum about it?
Raine December 22nd, 2004, 05:01 PM invasion?
I thought that I'm the only one from Poland who is writing here. :)
Raine December 22nd, 2004, 05:08 PM anyway
10/10 when I saw it for the 1st time in polish subforum 2-3 years ago
but now only 9 (I don't like this tower)
Phobos December 23rd, 2004, 03:59 AM Bad copy of the old buildings, and the porticum, among other parts of the building,is horrible.
4.5/10
Sky | Kai December 23rd, 2004, 01:39 PM the coulmns are a joke, totally out of proportion. an offend for the amazing roman/greek coulmns, which were perfect in proportion because of strict rules of design.
the tower is horrible and the dome a little too chaste.
still i like (new) traditional architecture. and poland. so...6/10

Ellatur April 29th, 2005, 05:15 PM i hope the interior colors aren't as dull as that in the real life..
8/10
Kampflamm April 29th, 2005, 08:39 PM Almost as bad as that building in Bucharest. Pure kitsch. I'm a friend of traditional architecture, but only if it's austere. Besides, the interior looks quite cheap compared to real baroque churches.
5.5/10
SoboleuS April 29th, 2005, 10:10 PM It's impressive because of great size, but its architecture is really bad: strange mix of many styles and cheap copy of historic buildings.
5/10

3/10 ... and i'm from Poland :)
Fallout May 3rd, 2005, 11:19 PM For these money polish Church could build some really impressive and representative church in Warsaw or Krakow, like Sagrada Familia in Spain. Instead they created a temple of kitsch in the middle of nowhere.
Valia May 4th, 2005, 12:11 AM I would prefer a modern build like the Brasilia cathedral. In don't understand the neohistoricism building today, only one belgian dude, one hundred fifteen years ago, could have been a magnificent neohistorical building.

WotaN May 26th, 2005, 02:50 PM Does anyone of you like it? I'll wrap it for him and he'll pay only for delivery... ;) Why, why in Poland? -9/10
ƒƒ May 26th, 2005, 03:10 PM It's kitsch but very beautiful kitsch.
If this church is also called 'Sanktuarium Matki Bolesnej Krolowej Polski' I found that:
The belfry tower is 64m,
the central dome is 103,5m
and the tall tower is 141,5m.
JohnnyMass May 27th, 2005, 06:42 AM If it wasn't for the columns, both outside and inside, it would be perfect, but they're totaly out of proportion what makes the whole thing look a little weird. Love the tower though. 9.
Henk May 27th, 2005, 09:52 AM I like it. 8/10.

butch83 May 31st, 2009, 01:25 PM ^^calm down with this nazi shit. IMO this building(s) is major waste of money and true golden bull of our times, what does it have to do with Jesus's teachings, or whatever they written in the book? To not build such things afair.
4 for the impression it probably makes.
There are tonnes of way better architecture coming to existence every year in Poland.

Mateusz June 9th, 2009, 11:26 AM I wouldn't mind if it would be built 200 years earlier and in more reasonable colours ;)

5/10
UNDERSTAND that the Catholic Church calls for the construction of beautiful and ornate churches because they are the "house of God," and many modern churches (with exceptions of course) pay little reverence to God in their architectural features.. and besides, most newly built churches adopt the modernist idea just because of "lack of funds," not because it looks better in any way.

Karunel December 14th, 2011, 03:20 PM I don't really see what's wrong with it... Is it a sin to build something in an old style? Why? If it had been built out of glass and steel it'd have an average score of 9 because of how "daring" and whatever it is.
It's a church, built as a classical church, I don't see the problem. 7/10.
Kampflamm December 14th, 2011, 03:30 PM The problem is that it's not built according to classic dimensions but more like a cheap copy of a much more grandiose building. When you're trying to revive a classic style you had better get it right. Otherwise it'll look like a mess which is the case here.
tommolo January 8th, 2012, 04:18 AM I would prefer a modern build like the Brasilia cathedral. In don't understand the neohistoricism building today, only one belgian dude, one hundred fifteen years ago, could have been a magnificent neohistorical building.

Well Lychen basilica might not be the best building in the world, but let me explain how it modernity began and why it cleared off every classical detail, and you'll see yourself that it is in no way linked to a change of tastes or anything aesthetical. It was the 1930s and world was amazed by the modernity of industrialization, positivism and rationalism. Every artesanal product was seen bad, inaccurate, "too human". Everything must be considered as a part of industry, of technique and technology. In those times, architecture was seen as a minor science, while engineering was the true science, because it was more linked to what it economically mattered: constructing as many houses as possible, skipping away every detail that slowed this authomatized process. In those times there were problem of scarcity of houses, and cities were exploding of population growth. Mies Van Der Rohe, the immense architect, thus said that it was immoral to think about architecture in times when what really mattered were only houses and speedy process to build them. So they voluntarily decided to provvisionally suspend every research in architecture and to focus in rapid, economically and easy way to build houses. But it was just a temporary decision, that still lasts inmotivatedly still nowadays, in times of post-industrial society, in times of huge abundance of houses and in times of demographical decrease in western world. Do we really need to still nowadays put aside classical details? Do we really need to impose the dominance of men above nature through heavy industrialization? I don't think we're in the same age anymore. Neohistoricism is a huge "falso storico"? Yes, but after postmodernism, "falso storico" became itself a style and and an artistical genre, as became with kitsch. It may be not pleasing you, but still there is a huge space for it in contemporary architecture and it always will be. Time will tell which style will lasts, which one will win. :)
Lychen Basilica 7,5/10 for the ambition! ;)
ah and by the way...Lichen Basilica is technically ascribed to postmodern architecture, not neo historicism. Even though neo historicism is an outgrowth to postmodern architecture.

Don't bullshit me. This building is great. Very grand and I like it. You're just jealous that in Germany they're building more mosques than churches. I hate people like you that bitch just to bitch.
