VansTripp December 23rd, 2004, 06:39 AM Looks like some type of gothic fantasy.
yeah, Do you like this new project?
AzN8oi December 23rd, 2004, 06:53 AM Looks so... "futuristic gothic". I like it, but I really don't feel that it belongs in LA... It looks like it belongs in somewhere like Prague.
CarsonCaliBrotha December 23rd, 2004, 07:59 AM That thing looks WAY too big.
benji45 December 23rd, 2004, 08:00 AM I HOPE that doesnt get built!
VansTripp December 23rd, 2004, 08:28 AM I HOPE that doesnt get built!
me too. It seem stupid project to build in L.A. so this project must in Europe.
LosAngelesSportsFan December 23rd, 2004, 08:37 AM thats an old project from 5 years ago that fell through, thank god
VansTripp December 23rd, 2004, 09:02 AM thats an old project from 5 years ago that fell through, thank god
How you know about this project? Thank for inform me.
badtz December 23rd, 2004, 09:13 AM ...... LA really does need some type of "monument". I think having an extremely tall angel piercing out of the downtown skyline would be AWESOME!!!!
LooselogInThePeg December 23rd, 2004, 09:35 AM That thing is so ugly it makes my balls contract
savvysearch December 23rd, 2004, 11:09 AM It seems very east European. It doesn't fit LA. LA should go with one of it's strengths which is post-modernism in the vein of Frank Gehry. I think statements are best made with architecture rather than statues.
Daortíz December 24th, 2004, 06:00 AM I like the angel concept. but the rest is too gaudi
not the type of archictecture for LA it would be more at home in a place like Barcelona, with all their extravagant gothic inspired buildings
Imperfect Ending December 24th, 2004, 10:28 AM hAHAHA if it does get built i hope its somewhere where it snows
soup or man December 28th, 2004, 05:58 AM That shit is gross. Doesn' belong anywhere.
SoCal Guy January 4th, 2005, 06:44 AM Yeah, I think that would have been a bit much for L.A, but thanks for the pictures Blink182. Where do you find all of your pictures?
Simpatico78 January 6th, 2005, 11:51 AM I'm amazed that some of you would have been against this project. The idea could have used some refinement, but that angel statue alone with a little less gothic feel would have been a cowbell of sorts for downtown L.A. If placed in the right place would have been like Rio's Christ statue, would have made your downtown distinct rather than random like its is now.
el_artista_violeta January 6th, 2005, 03:38 PM ^^^yeah it does need some refinement. but definitely interesting. it seems to be a crazy structure, and that would fit in here perfectly, 'cause let's face it, this is a crazy town. I do prefer huge statues instead of architecture, and if they refine it hard enough in order to make both merge, it would be awesome.
Vlad the Great January 7th, 2005, 02:15 AM The concept is genious, but this design SUCKS.
They should build it like the Independence Sqare in Kiev, Ukraine. Looks much better and realistic.
They do need to make this a 1000 feet tall though. :) LA needs another 1000 footer.

djm19 January 7th, 2005, 05:08 AM LA doesnt need what looks like a gothic theme park. But, just a large statue or tower monument would be nice.
And yeah, this project is old and fell through the cracks.
aion26 January 8th, 2005, 06:17 PM Yeah, I'm glad that fell through. I really didn't like the sword bit at the top, a bit too militaristic for me. I've seen some great angel like monuments in Europe that worked, and I can definately see the merit of "the city of angels" having a similar one, but that one was just hideous.
james2390 January 8th, 2005, 08:32 PM Eww..thats gross. If LA wants a monument, they should go with something glassy and bright, not something dark and depressing.
nygirl January 9th, 2005, 04:30 AM ugliest thing i have ever seen i hope it doesn't get built.. what a mistake.
AtlanticaC5 January 9th, 2005, 11:02 PM :uh: Man, that's horrible! :ohno: :nono:
lovecharlie August 13th, 2005, 02:43 AM I think on their own some of the designs dont look to bad, but together its like a disney films castle.
Imperfect Ending August 13th, 2005, 03:17 AM 8 months later...
latennisguy August 13th, 2005, 08:41 AM and it still sucks!
like many other people said, it needs a lot of refinement. HOw about on top of the US Bank Tower?
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b43/samceb/downtownangel.jpg
Never mind...it sucks too
Imperfect Ending August 13th, 2005, 09:52 AM impossible anyway. the heliport law.
alex3000 August 13th, 2005, 11:44 AM Who designed that building??? A 5 year old kid??? The same guy that designed some of the buildings in SimCity 2000??? I have to admit that that monument would have put Los Angeles on the world-map. Every major world city ( well, most of them) has a monument and we don't have anything.
Imperfect Ending August 13th, 2005, 01:16 PM we have a lot of little ones.
alex3000 August 13th, 2005, 01:22 PM we have a lot of little ones.
Dude.. don't argue with me, its 4:17 am... go to sleep. :tongue3:
But.... the little ones don't count...
Imperfect Ending August 13th, 2005, 01:29 PM how is that an argument?
alex3000 August 13th, 2005, 01:46 PM Shhh... Work with me, Aquamadoor... You're making me look stupid. :tongue3:
alex3000 August 13th, 2005, 01:48 PM OMG.... I don't even know what I'm typing... Now I really look stupid.
latennisguy August 13th, 2005, 08:52 PM Just a little.
LosAng August 13th, 2005, 09:19 PM this is ugly bottom line
savvysearch August 14th, 2005, 01:52 AM Let's just wait to see what Frank Gehry comes up with for our monument from Grand Avenue. A newspaper also mentioned a clock tower that could also be part of the skyline.
PotatoGuy August 14th, 2005, 08:32 AM its gross

Are there any pics?
redspork02 August 15th, 2005, 05:23 PM MAybe just the tower with the angel, Not all the dumb buildings around it thats possibly all right.
redspork02 August 15th, 2005, 05:27 PM MAybe just the tower with the angel, Not all the dumb buildings around it thats possibly all right.
And About the Grand Ave. "Monument" I hope Its Not A Stupid Clock. It should Be something Classic, beautiful, Example: The Washington Arch In NEw York CIty, Angel De Independencia In Mexico City. Just A Suggestion.
lovecharlie August 16th, 2005, 12:13 AM I think a single gothic tower like the Woolworth would look good I think thats the only way you could successfully pull off an angel in the city of angels. Isnt the American symbol an American bald eagle that could be incorperated!
chindy March 29th, 2006, 05:51 AM Is this thing still proposed or not? I kind of like it, well anyway, it's interesting. :colgate:
edsg25 March 29th, 2006, 06:03 AM The City of Angels monument looks a spookily gothic and totally out of place. Perhaps you folks need a City of Dodgers monument instead! :bash:
edsg25 March 29th, 2006, 06:04 AM That thing is so ugly it makes my balls contract
too much information
Samuel64 March 29th, 2006, 06:05 AM Na its not i dont think. I thought it was a kinda interesting project, over the top but yh, LA definately needs a landmark....

Manila-X March 29th, 2006, 06:10 AM Lol i rekon ^^ Na its not i dont think. I thought it was a kinda interesting project, over the top but yh. LA definately needs a landmark....
LA already has dozens of landmarks. But definitely not this one! It's architecture doesn't fit Los Angeles. It's more for Gotham City if it did existed :D
Samuel64 March 29th, 2006, 06:22 AM I suppose we do have the US bank tower. But it just seems to me like were missing something
Fern~Fern* March 29th, 2006, 06:28 AM http://skyscraperpage.com/gallery/data/577/4023coa3.jpg[/QUOTE]
What the hell is that????
Where's batman????
Manila-X March 29th, 2006, 06:32 AM I suppose we do have the US bank tower. But it just seems to me like were missing something
It's not just the US Bank Tower. In fact the US Bank Tower is already very iconic. How about the LA City Hall or The Capitol Records Bldg., aren't they iconic?
Anyway, The Hollywood Sign is still LA's known landmark. LA doesn't need a monument such as this.
redspork02 March 29th, 2006, 08:53 PM THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN IS L.A.'s LANDMARK.
ITS SAD THOUGH THAT THE CITY DOSENT TRY TO
LIGHT IT UP AT NIGHT......LIKE THE NEW YEARS 2000 CELEBRATION

^Are you serious, it looked like no too much planning was put in it. Yuck!!!
LANative March 29th, 2006, 11:30 PM That thing belongs in Europe somewhere; thats not L.A.s style. But it will look better as a normal sized statue NOT but a statue taller than the Library Tower!
PotatoGuy March 30th, 2006, 01:34 AM That thing belongs in Europe somewhere; thats not L.A.s style. But it will look better as a normal sized statue NOT but a statue taller than the Library Tower!
I know, its disgusting, if it was like in a roundabout or something, that'd make a little more sense.. but that thing is like huge and just not very tasteful, it looks a little communist
chindy March 30th, 2006, 01:37 AM Even if it's misunderstood. The architechture is very inspired. I think it's a good idea but it needs to be modified a bit. The roundabout idea was good. Make it a kinda focal point for the city like what the eiffel tower is in Paris or Big Ben in London.
svs March 30th, 2006, 02:16 AM That project is dead and is much less likely to rise from its grave than Dracula, thank God. Is there any other monument anyone on these forums would like to propose for LA?

The architecture looks unpleasant. I think it's better off in Las Vegas where most fancy architectures are.
godblessbotox March 30th, 2006, 07:45 AM awful... i would say keep the dirt lot that it would be replacing
Manila-X March 30th, 2006, 08:30 AM awful... i would say keep the dirt lot that it would be replacing
Or better if they plan a mixed-used developement there.
godblessbotox March 30th, 2006, 08:47 AM oh, right that too...
Caliguy2005 March 30th, 2006, 10:06 AM This monument does not fit in with L.A

I ALSO DIDNT LIKE OUR MILLENIUM CELEBRATION HERE IN L.A., IT WAS
NOT WHAT A CITY OF THIS IMPPORTANCE SHOULD OF HAD.....
BUT LIGHTING UP THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN ON A REGULAR BASIS WOULD BE A GREAT STEP FORWARD
klamedia March 31st, 2006, 02:03 AM Their you have it. I've been wrestling with myself thinking about what would be an acceptable LA monument but it's already there. The Hollywood sign should be lit up and change colors in accordance to holidays as well as ethnic and cultural holidays. But it should be lit up every night.

Oh man, LA's millennium celebration was wack! They should have done more.

AND I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO BELIVED IN THAT IDEA, WHO DO U PETITION TO FOR THAT, CITY COUNCIL OR HOLLYWOOD CHAMBER???
klamedia March 31st, 2006, 05:47 PM Dunno? I'm envisioning Red and Green for Xmas, Black and Orange for Halloween, Yellow for Easter, Red White and Blue for the 4th, Rainbow for Gay Pride and so on. I can't believe it hasn't been attempted before. It's as if LA delibrately refuses to do anything that could instill civic pride and give people a sense of cohesion.
godblessbotox March 31st, 2006, 05:57 PM ha who would want that!!! especially in a city of 17 million individuals
LosAngelesSportsFan April 1st, 2006, 12:24 AM i think the homeowners of that area rejected the idea of lighting up the sign a few years ago. I swear, why do homeowner groups have so much power!?!
klamedia April 1st, 2006, 02:05 AM Yes, homeowners seem to have alot of power in LA, too much really. Their would need to be a restructure of local government for things to really start to change. I say first, break up the county into 4 or 5 smaller buroughs.
Fern~Fern* April 1st, 2006, 06:12 AM ^ Oh shit not that secession crap again....... Let me check my garage to see if I still have my lawn sign!!!!!
godblessbotox April 1st, 2006, 06:59 AM ey... to bad im not part of the city of angels...
we need more of the old guy that is running the port of long beach <or los angeles i forget>
but hes shaking shit up good, so i hear. old politicians are the best because most of the time they could give a rats ass about re-election so they actually make things better... or worse... alot worse...
godblessbotox April 1st, 2006, 07:00 AM ...that comment really did not make much sense on this subject. sorry for the deviation
