Saw several green building as well. Buildings are beautiful. Very impressed by Brooklyn bridge which was the first suspension bridge in the world built in late 1880's.This brigde has all modes of transport,ome level for cars ,one lever for trains ,one level for buses. seperate lane for joggers and pedestrians another barricaded lane for cyclists.Alao saw the multistoried bus terminus

I think for Netravathi new bridge they are providing footpath. But, the news report, which I remember reading a long back, says for Talapady bridge they are not providing any footpath. As I have observed Talapady has higher pedestrian traffic then Netravathi. And even other bridges may not have footpaths. We can only dream of lane for joggers and pedestrians and cyclists or NMTs.

Nice to know that green building trend is picking up in the US cities.

Actually why zig zag is provided is because the project is situated on a slope , hence giving a direct road frm top to bottom may be to steep hence zigzag formula. another thing is its situated in ranipura so its designed in such a way that each apartment gets a beautiful view of kudla. the views of the city frm ranipura are amazing man.

By the a wonderful project..
Having homes on that stretch will be very prestigious in future not just because of hospitals, Institutions, ITs or anything else.. But because of the view one will have downside the Greenery of sloping mountains followed by. flowing of nethravathi and finally the ever rising skyline of Mangalore

"Greenery of sloping mountains" - everyone is digging mountains and cutting trees. We don't know how long the greenery is going to last.

One thing missing in Mangalore is, getting rid of these electric poles. Electric connection should be made underground.

Mangalore, July 17: Ajit Singh, Union Civil Aviation Minister has informed that International as well as Domestic terminals at Mangalore Airport are likely to be commissioned by August 2012, Dr. M Veerappa Moily, Union Minister for Corporate Affairs has stated in a press release.

Mr. Moily has stated that in Export Vision 2020 held earlier in February, one of the major concerns shown was the need for Air Cargo complex at Mangalore Airport with cold storage facilities for agro products. The matter was taken up by him with the Union Civil Aviation Minister who has informed that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is building a cargo terminal at Mangalore Airport for handling international and domestic cargo by modifying the old passenger terminal, Mr. Moily has said.

Cold storage facilities would be provided with the assistance of M/s Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and the same would be used for storage and processing of perishable cargo, Mr. Moily has stated.

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಕರಾವಳಿ ತೀರಕ್ಕೆ ಗರಿಷ್ಟ ಭದ್ರತೆ ಒದಗಿಸುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಕೋಸ್ಟ್ ಗಾರ್ಡ್*ನ ವಾಯು ನೆಲೆಯನ್ನು ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಹಳೆ ವಿಮಾನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣದ ಆವರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲು ಯೋಜನೆ ರೂಪಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಮುಂದಿನ ಒಂದುವರೆ ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ಅನುಷ್ಠಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಬರಲಿದೆ.

ಕರಾವಳಿಯ ಸುಮಾರು 750ಕಿ.ಮೀ ಉದ್ದದ ಸಮುದ್ರತೀರದ ಭದ್ರತೆಯನ್ನು ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಬಿಗಿಗೊಳಿಸುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಕೋಸ್ಟ್ ಗಾರ್ಡ್ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಮಂಗಳೂರು ವಿಮಾನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣ ಪ್ರಾಧಿಕಾರದ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ವಾಯು ನೆಲೆ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸುವ ಕುರಿತು ಮಾತುಕತೆ ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಕರಾವಳಿ ತೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ತುರ್ತು ಸಂದರ್ಭ ವಾಯು ಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಚರಣೆ ನಡೆಸಲು ಹೆಲಿಕಾಪ್ಟರ್*ಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇರಳದ ಕೊಚ್ಚಿಯಿಂದ ತರಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ವಿಳಂಬವಾಗುವುದರಿಂದ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲೇ ವಾಯು ನೆಲೆ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿ, ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ಚೇತಕ್ ಹೆಲಿಕಾಪ್ಟರ್*ಗಳನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲೇ ಇಡುವ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಮಾಡಲು ಕೋಸ್ಟ್ ಗಾರ್ಡ್ ಯೋಜಿಸಿದೆ. ಮಂಗಳೂರು ವಿಮಾನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣ ಸಮುದ್ರ ತೀರಕ್ಕೆ ಸಮೀಪವಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ತುರ್ತು ಸಂದರ್ಭ ತಕ್ಷಣ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಚರಣೆಗೆ ಇದರಿಂದ ಅನುಕೂಲವಾಗಲಿದೆ.

ಕಚೇರಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆ

ಬಜಪೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಹಳೆ ವಿಮಾನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣದ ಟರ್ಮಿನಲ್ ಕಟ್ಟಡ ಸುಮಾರು ನಾಲ್ಕು ಸಾವಿರ ಚದರ ಅಡಿ ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದು, ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು ಎರಡು ಸಾವಿರ ಚದರ ಅಡಿ ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣ ಪ್ರದೇಶವನ್ನು ಕೋಸ್ಟ್*ಗಾರ್ಡ್ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೋಸ್ಟ್ ಗಾರ್ಡ್ ಕಚೇರಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಕಚೇರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಯು ಕಾರ್ಯಾಚರಣೆಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸ್ಥಳಾವಕಾಶ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು. ರನ್*ವೇ ಪಕ್ಕದ ವಿಮಾನ ಪಾರ್ಕಿಂಗ್ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ಹೆಲಿಕಾಪ್ಟರ್*ಗಳ ನಿಲುಗಡೆಗೆ ಅಗತ್ಯ ಸ್ಥಳಾವಕಾಶ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೋಸ್ಟ್*ಗಾರ್ಡ್ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ವಿಮಾನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿ ಹಳೆ ವಿಮಾನ ನಿರ್ಗಮನ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಳತೆ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸೆಪ್ಟಂಬರ್ ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೋಸ್ಟ್*ಗಾರ್ಡ್ ಕಚೇರಿ ಆರಂಭವಾಗುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ ಇದೆ.

15ಎಕರೆ ಭೂಮಿ

ವಿಮಾನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣದ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲೇ ಇರುವ ಸಿದ್ದಾರ್ಥನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ 15ಎಕರೆ ಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನು ಜಿಲ್ಲಾಡಳಿತ ಕೋಸ್ಟ್ ಗಾರ್ಡ್*ಗೆ ಹಸ್ತಾಂತರಿಸಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂರ್ಣಪ್ರಮಾಣದ ಕೋಸ್ಟ್ ಗಾರ್ಡ್ ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಅಪರೇಶನ್ ಮಾಡುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವಂತ ಕಟ್ಟಡ ಹೊಂದುವ ವರೆಗೆ ಕೋಸ್ಟ್ ಗಾರ್ಡ್ ಕಚೇರಿ ಹಳೆ ವಿಮಾನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಲಿದೆ.

Yes, that was a good train but it always arrived very very late. I traveled in it once from Kundapura to Kudla.. We were held up at Mangalore Junction outer for about 1 and a half hour and me and friends finally walked to the station !!

Regarding making this train regular, there is no hope because its not announced in the budget and this year's time table is already out...it was very popular though, all the AC coaches were full and sleeper coaches around 70% full..
If we want trains, we have to get out of this SR's Palakkad Division...

**These two stations(and the tracks that come under them) are the highest earners in Palghat Division(because of the freight trains to/fro NMPT, MRPL etc.
**There is only station in this Division with rake maintenance facilities such as coach washing and that is Mangalore Central ! Even Palghat, the headquarters of the division doesn't have it.
**Even though Mangalore is in Karnataka, people may think they are in Kerala because of large Malayali population of station staff who can't speak Kannada and are a bunch of idiots !
**There is hardly any train with the destination boards in Kannada(Yeshwantpur Exp not included).

Yes, that was a good train but it always arrived very very late. I traveled in it once from Kundapura to Kudla.. We were held up at Mangalore Junction outer for about 1 and a half hour and me and friends finally walked to the station !!

Regarding making this train regular, there is no hope because its not announced in the budget and this year's time table is already out...it was very popular though, all the AC coaches were full and sleeper coaches around 70% full..
If we want trains, we have to get out of this SR's Palakkad Division...

Mangalore: It is not often that former CM DV Sadananda Gowda publicly agree with the visions of deputy speaker N Yogish Bhat for the development of the city in general and Dakshina Kannada in particular. Gowda's reasoning for this was that Bhat's plans would require half if not more of the state's budgetary outlay. But, he did agree to two projects that Bhat had pressed for.
While the first one is a 3D planetarium that will come up at the Regional Science Centre in Pilikula Nisargadhama near here, the second is the deputy commissioner's office complex to be come up in Bangra Kuloor near here. Spread over nine acres, the project which is estimated to cost Rs 41 crore, will house all district-level offices under one roof.
Sadananda Gowda has publicly admitted that this was the last file that he cleared before demitting the office of the chief minister. He had stopped clearing files when it became evident that he would have to make way for Jagadish Shettar for political reasons.
Yogish Bhat said, "This is the project by which people of the district will remember DV for his tenure as CM. The preliminary line estimates, project proposal and other issues that had to be officially sorted out were done and the file was sent to the CMO for clearance in a record period of 10 days."
Gowda told TOI that the detailed plan, architectural design and other clearances would follow now that the administrative approval had been given. Regarding objection raised by Mangalore Stock Exchange about use of three acres of land in survey number 381/A1 at Bangra Kuloor for the project, DC NS Channappa Gowda said he would strive to resolve it amicably.

Air cargo complex at Mangalore airport is likely to be commissioned soon.

The Union Corporate Affairs Minister, Mr Veerappa Moily, has given the indication that air cargo complex at Mangalore airport will be commissioned by August.

In a press release here, Mr Moily said the recent exporters’ convention in Mangalore, organised by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), had stressed the need for an air cargo complex with cold storage facilities for agro products at Mangalore airport.

Mr Moily said that he took up the matter with the Union Civil Aviation Minister, Mr Ajit Singh, who informed him that the Airport Authority of India is building a cargo terminal at Mangalore Airport for handling of international and domestic cargo. The old passenger terminal at the airport will be modified for this.

“Cold storage facilities will be provided with the assistance of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), and the same will be used for storage and processing of perishable cargo,” he said.

Mr Singh has also informed him that both international and domestic cargo terminals at the airport are likely to be commissioned by August, he added.

LONG-PENDING DEMAND

Mr Mohammed Ameen, President of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), told Business Line that establishment of the air cargo complex is one of the long-pending demands of KCCI. “We have been getting a lot of enquiries regarding air cargo. People are waiting this facility to start. For marine products such as fishes there is a good demand in the gulf countries,” he said.

However, there are some small players in marine product manufacturing. They cannot do shipments in containers. For them, air cargo complex is a must, he said. Horticultural products, processed food items and unique jasmine flowers of the region can also be exported.

Regarding the projected cargo from the region, he said: “We have done a study. Now we are making a nominal projection. We do not want to give a high projection, and nothing-materialises kind of a situation. We want the facility to start.”

Deputy Speaker and Mangalore City South MLA N. Yogish Bhat here on Tuesday urged Kota Srinivasa Poojary, Minister for Muzrai, Ports, and Inland Water Transport, to take forward a proposal of expanding the jetty at the fisheries harbour here.

At a function organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party to felicitate the Minister, Mr. Bhat said that the Rs. 55-crore proposal, which would be the third stage development at the port, was pending with the Government.

Mr. Bhat said the State Government had given the administrative approval for the jetty expansion on September 24, 2010. Mr. Bhat had said at a press conference here on October 1, 2010, that completing the third stage of expansion of the harbour would particularly help fishermen as 400 to 500 more fishing boats could be anchored there.

Cost

At present, about 400 boats could be anchored. The jetty would be expanded towards the Hoige bazaar side. The work was estimated to cost Rs. 57.6 crore. Of this, the Centre would provide Rs. 43.2 crore (75 per cent) and the rest would be borne by the State. The Centre had so far released Rs. 5 crore, Mr. Bhat had said then.

At the function here on Tuesday, Mr. Bhat urged the Minister to take up dredging at the port. In his reply, Mr. Poojary said he would look into the matter.

Mr. Bhat said the BJP Government aimed at implementing drastic development works in the city in the next six months. However, he did not give details about the development projects.

‘Work hard’

The MLA said the party workers should strive hard to regain power at the next elections to Mangalore City Corporation, Legislative Assembly, and the zilla panchayat.

K. Monappa Bhandary, former president of the district unit of the party, was felicitated on the occasion as he was all set to enter the Legislative Council.

Mr. Bhandary was the lone candidate in the fray in the by-election to the council’s seat fallen vacant following the death of V.S. Acharya.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, said that Mr. Poojary had deep knowledge about the panchayat raj system. Mr. Poojary and Mr. Bhandary had come up in the party from the grass roots.

Some of the proposals we discussed here in the forum (prepared by Murthy n co) where shared with him and are being worked upon. He was always all ears for ideas from all, irrespective of caste, creed, religion and worked genuinely towards it.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will shortly allot 2,000 square metres in the old airport at Bajpe to the Indian Coast Guard for keeping its helicopters, said the Director of Mangalore Airport M. R. Vasudeva. The land will be allotted on lease, he told The Hindu .

“The process of handing over and taking over the land has begun,” he said.

A Coast Guard official here told The Hindu that in addition to the land at the airport, the Coast Guard had sought 15 acres from the State Government near the old airport to set up its base. It was yet to be given possession of the land. The parking of its helicopters at the airport will help strengthen rescue operations and coastal security, the official said. Mr. Vasudeva said the upcoming air cargo complex at the old airport would have a facility to store up to 10 tonnes of cargo. In addition, a cold storage would have a capacity to store up to three tonnes of cargo.

He said provision would be made to store sensitive and hazardous goods.

“We are creating infrastructure for the demand to handle cargo from Mangalore to grow,” the director said.

Mr. Vasudeva said that works on the new air traffic control (ATC) complex at the airport is expected to be over by June, 2013. Total passenger traffic at the airport went up by 16 per cent to 4.86 lakh in the first half of this year when compared to the corresponding period of 2011.

Data with the AAI said that more domestic passengers travelled through the airport in the first six months of this year when compared to the corresponding period last year. The domestic traffic went up by 24 per cent to 3.65 lakh this year, on the back of new flights from SpiceJet.

The total movement (arrival and departure) of domestic flights went up by 3,859 during the period this year.

International passenger traffic fell by 2.63 per cent to 1.21 lakh during the period this year mainly because of strike by Air India pilots. Parallel to it, the movement of international flights came down by 98 during the period. Air India is the sole operator of flights to West Asia from Mangalore. The strike by its pilots and cancellation of some flights because of the strike resulted in the fall in international traffic and flight movements this year.

SpiceJet introduced its flights from Mangalore to Hyderabad, Chennai, and Mumbai in the second half of 2011.

Pune Kannada Sangha has requested for a direct air connection between Mangaluru and Pune as more than two lakhs of Mangalurians are residing in Pune. The Sangha has already made an appeal to Union Minister Veerappa Moily, Udupi MP Jayaprakash Hegde, other people representatives, Indigo, Jet, Spicejet, Kingfisher. Spicejet is already running a flight between Pune and Kochin but the passenger density is below expectation. If the flight is converted as Pune-Mangaluru-Kochin then there will be a better prospectus.

There are proposals to acquire land for the upcoming Managala Corniche through a unique concept called ‘pooling’ said Mangalore Urban Development Authority Chairman Ramesh S.

Speaking on the topic 'Vision for Mangalore 2021', a talk organised by St Aloysius College Alumni Association, Ramesh said that land pooling will minimise losses to individual owners and will increase land value tremendously. With better roads coming up, the value of the land will go up. It is a win-win situation, he said.

“The proposal is at discussion-level. The proposal will come soon after certain amendments in the act. In case land pooling policy is adopted in Mangalore to acquire land, then it will be the first city in Karnataka,” he said.

He also said that the system is more democratic and the owner as well as the person will benefit.

Under Mangala Corniche, 32 kilometers of road will be developed and estimated cost of the project will be Rs 8,000 to 10,000 crore, he said.

The talk on the upcoming multi-level car-parking is in its final stage. With this, one can park around 800 to 1000 cars in the car parking area which will come up in the old private bus stand at Hampankatta, he said.

Design and Planning Counsel Pvt Ltd Director Shobit Tayal said that he has done a critical evaluation of the MUDA Master Plan II.

He also presented a power-point presentation on developing Mangalore. The audience were given an opportunity to interact with the MUDA Chairman. Many presented various problems, especially the delay in getting their applications processed at MUDA. Ramesh said that steps will be taken to ensure that there will not be delay in this process.

Mangalore, Jul 21: St Aloysius College Alumni Association (SACAA) on Friday July 20 organized a seminar on the subject ‘Vision for Mangalore 2021’ at the College IT auditorium.

Ramesh S, chairman of MUDA (Mangalore urban development authority) was the resource person.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the task of implementing Mangalore’s third comprehensive master plan stretching up to 2021 is headed by him. He spoke on the importance of MUDA and said that it was established by the government mainly to control human habitats in the city.

"Since its inception in 1998, MUDA is striving hard for the development of city so that everything works in order. Various town planning projects are coming up in the city like Mangala water project from Nethravathi river till Kulur covering about 8,000-10,000 km, multi-level car parking system with mechanical parking devices and so on," he said.

He made a strong pitch for the land pooling approach to urban development. Ramesh said that the traditional route to secure land for development was, and is, acquisition, even compulsory, by paying compensation or granting transfer of development rights (TDR) wherein for surrendering the land, the owner gets extra development rights elsewhere or extra FSI (Floor Space Index) – both being marketable and transferable.

"Under the land pooling system, the person who surrenders part of his property, say for widening a lane into a road, benefits by enhanced value of his property because of better approach infrastructure to his property in the form of a wide road in the place of a narrow lane," he said.

In this context, Ramesh referred to the ambitious Mangalore Corniche Project stretching from Nethravati bridge to Kuloor Bridge, at an estimated cost of Rs 8,000/10,000 crores, and said that it would be constructed on Public-Private Partnership basis – also taking the land pooling route as the water-fronting properties will gain tremendously in terms enhanced property value.

Ramesh said that the latest master plan for Mangalore, stretching to 2021, covers an area of 608 sq km and includes areas beyond the city corporation limits, extending from Talapady in the south to Mulky in the north. He said that MUDA has put in place a close monitoring system to regulate orderly growth of this extended urban area. In the centre of the city itself decongestion is sought to be achieved through a multi-level car-parking/ commercial complex with parking facilities for 800/1,000 vehicles, at a cost of Rs 2.15 crores.

SACAA office bearers, Naveen Mascherenhas, secretary, welcomed and introduced the speaker, Arthur D’Souza, president, chaired the meeting, Fr Swebert D’Silva, director, moderated the discussion and John B Monteiro, convener, SACAA Talks, proposed a vote of thanks.

608 sq km area is huge and according to the report this area is from Talapady till Mulki,I think this also covers adjoining urban areas right from Talapady till Mulky like Deralakatte,Konaje,Ullal,kinnigoli etc:cheers:
And if I am not wrong currently MUDA covers an area of 300 sq km which includes Ullal and Mulki in its limits.
I remember Mangalore commisinerate covers an area about 650 sq km that includes Moodbidre and Kateel.
Also the NH from Talapdy till Mulki will be a fourlane Highway soon,then we may get to see a continuous urban sprawl in the coming years right from Talapady till Mulki which is around 52 kms:nuts::banana:

MANGALORE: There is a slump in the residential property sales in the city. They have declined across all segments in the Mangalore market by about 10% to 25%, after seeing a high in the recent past.

According to city corporation town planning office, 66 plus two storey projects have been launched since the beginning of the year till July indicating that the demand for residential property was good. But June-July month has seen a serious dip in the bookings. The slump is seen due to reluctance of non-resident Indians, who account for 55%-60% of the demand, to invest in the properties here.

PMA Razak, president, Mangalore Chapter of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India ( CREDAI), told TOI that there is a dip of about 10% in mid and affordable segment category apartments and it goes up to 25% in the luxury segment.

Inland Infrastructure Developers MD Siraj Ahmed says during his recent trip to Dubai, he has seen investor confidence in Mangalore falling. People in the Gulf are insecure and they want to invest in instruments which give are totally secure and give more return than on real estate or residential properties. NRIs investing here are not seeing much appreciation in their investments. Nevertheless, NRIs who want a home do invest here, but those who want a assured and safe returns see bank deposits or other instruments of high return as a safe bet,'' he added.

He also adds: In Mangalore, if an investor wants to sell a property they don't get premium easily. Whereas in Bangalore, though the same situation prevails, because of the vastness of the market, one will get a premium after a wait. I'm doing many projects in Bangalore and though market is difficult, I feel comfortable. Here where are the people? In the recent past no big industries with employment potential have come up in the recent past and that's telling.''

Property Infratech India Private Limited, MD, Rohan Monteiro says that when supply outstrips demand there is bound to be a problem. It also depends on the project location. My Bellisma project on Kadri Main Road is 90% sold in a few months after the launch. The same project would not have attracted even 10% if it was elsewhere,'' he says. Dheeraj Amin of Northern Sky Properties admits value for money properties and location play an important role in investment flow. Properties in convenient locations in mid and affordable segment have faced no problem, but properties in excess of Rs 4,000 per sq ft have not been attracting customers as much from past couple of months,'' he said.

Sources said also adding to the woes is the rates for properties in the city range from Rs 4,000 to Rs 4,500 per sq ft and in the outskirts it is Rs 2,700 to Rs 3,500 per sq ft, which is now being considered a prohibitive for a tier II city like Mangalore. Moreover, as some projects have long gestation period and NRIs do not want their money to be locked up in uncertain environment.

Mangalore really needs more big investments other than MSEZ.There are lots od ROI 's and EOI's but whenever a project comes up there are protests some genuine but most of them political . So investors shy away and go to other states where things are easier.I am not sure how many of those ROi'S and EOI's proceed to completion.The story of EPIP at Ganjimatt is a typical example . The phase one is not complete but they are talking about phase 2.This phenomenon is not limited to Mangalore. There is a general slump in Global market and Indias growth rate has fallen from 8 percent to 6 percent which is quite bad and India cannot afford to sluip down on its growth rate . If the infrastructiure was brilliant then India could easilty affort to slip down to a lower growth rate but sadly that is not the case.The growth rate in the west is quite bad and countries like UK are in recession but they could afford that because infrastructure is excellent.

Let us hope that this is only a passing phase. If BUILDERS REDUCE THE PRICES THAT WOULD BE GOOD FOR THE COMMON MAN AS HOUSING WOULD BECOME MORE AFFORDABLE. What we need is flats that would be affordable for the common man . However I note that demand in the Luxury segment has gone up by 25% and that is interesting to read.

The way I read it, the dip has gone up to 25% and not up by 25%...:|

What actually puzzles me is that Mangalore has also been hitting the headlines as far as jobcreation has been concerned. Clearly that was not enough.

CHENNAI: The proposed Chennai-Bangalore corridor, modelled on the Delhi-Mumbai corridor (DMIC), is still at the boardroom stage and officials of other states are already proposing new routes.

"We have come to make our pitch of including Andhra Pradesh in the proposed corridor," said Dr J Geeta Reddy, Andhra Pradesh minister for major industries, sugar, and commerce and export promotion at the Assocham (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India)-MCCI (Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry) national conference here on Saturday.

Andhra Pradesh officials want the corridor to link Nellore (in the east) and Anantapur (in the west). "The proposed corridor won't end up as a straight line, but will pass through a lot of industrial areas. Nellore is already home to an integrated business city ( Sri City) and we are proposing an airport at Nellore and sea connectivity through Krishnapatnam. There is a broad gauge line between Chennai and Nellore. With good sea, land and air connectivity along the route, it makes sense to expand the corridor," Pradeep Chandra, principal secretary (industries), Andhra Pradesh, said.

Others want the corridor to be extended to include Mangalore on the west coast. "There has been a meeting of senior officials from both states about shortening the time of travel between Mangalore and Chennai ports. That would involve digging tunnels along the route (Western Ghats). Experts from Japan studied this proposal and feel it's doable," C Kandasamy, director general (road development) and special secretary, Union ministry of road transport and highways, said. Some others proposed an inter-country route (Tamil Nadu-Karnataka-Sri Lanka) touching Trincomalee (a port city in Sri Lanka) en route Colombo.

Originally, the corridor was envisaged as a multi-billion dollar larger corridor that would end in Mumbai and cover Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Officials from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu had also discussed the possibility of a high-speed dedicated freight corridor with active assistance from Japan. Incidentally, Japan has provided technical and financial aid to the Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor), covering 1,483 km.

ಕರಾರಿನಂತೆ ಕಳೆದ ಜೂನ್* ಅಂತ್ಯದೊಳಗೆ ಈ ಕಾಮಗಾರಿ ಮುಗಿಯಬೇಕಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ಮುಂದಿನ ಮಾರ್ಚ್* ಒಳಗೆ ಕಾಮಗಾರಿ ಮುಗಿಯುವ ಭರವಸೆಯನ್ನು ಈಗ ನಿಗಮ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದೆ. 176.62 ಕೋಟಿ ರೂ. ಮೊತ್ತಕ್ಕೆ ಗುತ್ತಿಗೆ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿತ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಜಿಲ್ಲಾಧಿಕಾರಿ ಡಾ| ಎನ್*.ಎಸ್*. ಚನ್ನಪ್ಪ ಗೌಡ ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹಾತ್ಮಾ ಗಾಂಧಿ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಖಾತರಿ ಯೋಜನೆಯ ಪ್ರಗತಿಯ ಕುರಿತು ಅಸಮಾಧಾನ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದ ಸಚಿವರು, ನೀವು ಅಂಗೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಣ್ಣೆ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ತುಪ್ಪಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಅಲೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದೀರಿ. ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಜನಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಗಳ ಸಹಕಾರದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಗರಿಷ್ಠ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಚೀಟಿದಾರರನ್ನು ನೋಂದಾಯಿಸಲು ಹಾಗೂ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಅಧಿಕ ಕೆಲಸ ಒದಗಿಸಲು ಶ್ರಮಿಸುವಂತೆ ಸೂಚಿಸಿದರು.

ಇಲ್ಲಿವರೆಗೆ ಒಟ್ಟು 77,523 ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಚೀಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ವಿತರಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಒಟ್ಟು 56.58 ಲಕ್ಷ ರೂ. ವೆಚ್ಚ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. 4,494 ಕಾಮಗಾರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೈಗೆತ್ತಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, 72 ಕಾಮಗಾರಿಗಳು ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಂಡಿವೆ 4,422 ಕಾಮಗಾರಿಗಳು ಪ್ರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿವೆ. ಯೋಜನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಮಿಕರು ದಿನಕ್ಕೆ 150 ರೂ. ಕೂಲಿ ಪಡೆಯಲು ಅವಕಾಶವಿದ್ದು, ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ ಕೂಲಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಿದರೆ ಇದು ಅತ್ಯಲ್ಪವಾಗಿದೆ. ಯೋಜನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಜನರು ಹೆಸರು ನೋಂದಾಯಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಇದು ಮುಖ್ಯ ಕಾರಣವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಜಿಲ್ಲಾಧಿಕಾರಿಯವರು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು.

ಎಂಡೋಸಲ್ಫಾನ್* ಸಂತ್ರಸ್ತರಿಗಾಗಿ ಬೆಳ್ತಂಗಡಿಯ ಕೊಕ್ಕಡದಲ್ಲಿ 'ಡೇ ಕೇರ್* ಸೆಂಟರ್*' ನಡೆಸಲು ಕಳೆದ ವರ್ಷ ಹಣ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಈ ವರ್ಷ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಯಾಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಜತೆಗೆ ಪುತ್ತೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಆರಂಭಿಸಲು ಅನುದಾನ ಅಗತ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದವರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರ್*ಗಳ ಕೊರತೆ

ಇಲಾಖೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು ಶೇ. 52 ಸಿಬಂದಿ ಕೊರತೆ ಇದೆ. ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರ್*ಗಳ ಕೊರತೆಯೂ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಮಾಸಿಕ 15,000 ಸಂಭಾವನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿವೃತ್ತ ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರ್*ಗಳನ್ನು ತಾತ್ಕಾಲಿಕ ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೇಮಕ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಅವಕಾಶವಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಈ ವೇತನಕ್ಕೆ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಲು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನವರು ಒಪ್ಪುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅರ್ಹ ಯುವಜನರನ್ನು ನೇಮಿಸಲು ಅವಕಾಶ ನೀಡಿದರೆ ಅನುಕೂಲವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎನ್ನುವ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದವರು ಜಿ.ಪಂ. ಎಕ್ಸಿಕ್ಯೂಟಿವ್* ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರ್* ಸತ್ಯನಾರಾಯಣ್*.

ಇದೇ ರೀತಿಯ ನೇಮಕಕ್ಕೆ ಅವಕಾಶ ಒದಗಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ವಿದ್ಯಾಂಗ ಉಪನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಮೋಸೆಸ್* ಜಯಶೇಖರ್* ಅವರು, ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರ 466 ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳು ಖಾಲಿ ಇವೆ ಎಂದರು.

ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ವಸತಿ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳ ಸಮರ್ಪಕ ಅನುಷ್ಠಾನ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ತಹಶೀಲ್ದಾರ್* ಮತ್ತು ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಣಾಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಸಮನ್ವಯ ಸಾಧಿಸಿ ಗ್ರಾಮ ಪಂಚಾಯತ್* ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿವೇಶನ ಗುರುತಿಸುವ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವಂತೆ ಸಚಿವರು ಸೂಚಿಸಿದರು.

ಪೂರಕ ವಿಷಯಗಳ ಕುರಿತು ಸಮಾಲೋಚನೆ ನಡೆಸಲು ಆ. 14ರ ವೇಳೆಗೆ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಭೆ ನಡೆಸಲು ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗೊಳಿಸುವಂತೆ ಅವರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

ಜಿ.ಪಂ. ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್* ವಿಭಾಗ ಮತ್ತು ಲೋಕೋಪಯೋಗಿ ಇಲಾಖೆಗಳು ಜನಪರ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ನಿಗದಿತ ಕಾಲಮಿತಿಯೊಳಗೆ ಅನುಷ್ಠಾನಕ್ಕೆ ತರಬೇಕು. ಯೋಜನೆಗಳ ಅನುಷ್ಠಾನ ಜನಪರವಾಗಿರಬೇಕೇ ಹೊರತು ಗುತ್ತಿಗೆದಾರರ ಹಿತ ಕೇಂದ್ರೀಕೃತ ಆಗಬಾರದು ಎಂದವರು ಎಚ್ಚರಿಸಿದರು.

ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ರೀತಿಯ ಪ್ಲಾಸ್ಟಿಕ್* ಚೀಲಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಡೈನಿಂಗ್* ಟೇಬಲ್*ನಂತಹ ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ನಿಷೇಧಿಸುವಂತೆ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಉಸ್ತುವಾರಿ ಸಚಿವ ಸಿ.ಟಿ. ರವಿ ಅವರು ಜಿಲ್ಲಾಧಿಕಾರಿಗೆ ಸೂಚನೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.

ಈಗ 40 ಮೈಕ್ರಾನ್*ಗಿಂದ ಅಧಿಕ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದ ಪ್ಲಾಸ್ಟಿಕ್* ಬಳಸಲು ಮಾತ್ರ ಅವಕಾಶವಿದ್ದು, ಪ್ಲಾಸ್ಟಿಕ್* ಚೀಲಗಳು ಯಾವ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿವೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದನ್ನು ಖಚಿತಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಕಷ್ಟವಿದೆ. ಎಲ್ಲಾ ರೀತಿಯ ಪ್ಲಾಸ್ಟಿಕ್*ಗಳ ಬಳಕೆ ನಿಷೇಧಿಸುವುದೇ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪರಿಹಾರವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದವರು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು.

ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ವಿಷಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿ ಯಾರಾದರೂ ನ್ಯಾಯಾಲಯದ ಮೊರೆ ಹೋದರೆ ನಾವು ಕೂಡ ಅದನ್ನು ಸಮರ್ಪಕ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಲು ಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿದ್ದೇವೆ ಎಂದರು.

ಪಡಿತರ ಅರ್ಜಿ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುವ ಅವಧಿ ವಿಸ್ತರಣೆ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ

ಪಡಿತರ ಚೀಟಿ ಪಡೆಯಲು ಅರ್ಜಿ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಲು ಇರುವ ಅವಧಿಯನ್ನು ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯವರೇ ಆಹಾರ ಮತ್ತು ನಾಗರಿಕ ಸರಬರಾಜು ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಸಚಿವರಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಅವರ ಜೊತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಕುರಿತು ಸಮಾಲೋಚನೆ ನಡೆಸುವುದಾಗಿ ದ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಉಸ್ತುವಾರಿ ಸಚಿವ ಸಿ.ಟಿ. ರವಿ ಅವರು ಶನಿವಾರ ಪತ್ರಿಕಾಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

Today there was Artical in "Times of india" bangalore edition related to KSRTC and Bus transport developement in karnataka". We all have to proud that the Bus transport first started in mangalore. This can be one of the reason why we have such a good private transport system. All thanks to CPC and V.S Kudva

I have seen a bus like the one which is shown in that KH road bus stand in my childhood days way back in 90's,I still remember that,it was some private bus:)

Railway panel to examine proposals for new zones
New Delhi, July 8:

Amid growing demands from various quarters for creation of new zones and divisions, Railways has set up a six-member committee to examine the proposals, a decade after it embarked on such an exercise.

The committee would look into the various demands from state governments, MPs and MLAs since 2009 and submit its report within the next six months, sources in the Railway Ministry said.

The development comes in the wake of sustained demands from political class and clamour from citizen groups for reorganisation of zones and divisions, which, they contend, would not only help Railways oversee operations more efficiently but also help the regions benefit from it.

Close to 30 proposals have been received over the last three years for creation of zones and divisions from across the country, they said. At present, there are 17 zones in the country.

The committee will take into consideration operational feasibility, financial implications, administrative issues, infrastructural availability to examine the feasibility of the creation of new zones or reorganisation of the existing ones.

About a decade back, Railways had added seven new zones to its network after an exhaustive exercise of redrawing the zones.

The seven zones were South Western Railway, North Western Railway, West Central Railway, North Central Railway, South East Central Railway, East Coast Railway and East Central Railway.

Kolkata Metro was added as a new zone in December 2010, making it the 17th zone.

The Mangalore City Corporation would set up a permanent night shelter at old port area for those sleeping on pavements, bus-stands, and railway stations, said Commissioner of the corporation Harish Kumar K.

The civic body would set up the shelter on its own site at an estimated cost of Rs. 60 lakh. The State Government would allocate the fund, he told The Hindu.

There is an old building on the site. It would be demolished and the shelter would be built to accommodate 100 people. The construction would take sometime as the design of the building was yet to be finalised, he said.

Mr. Kumar said that now that the corporation had two temporary night shelters. It was managed by a non-governmental organisation. The one near Sharavu Temple had 20 inmates and the other near Urwa Market had 40 inmates.

A survey conducted a fortnight ago found 130 people, including the 60 inmates, “houseless” in the city. As they could not be accommodated in temporary shelters, the civic body had asked the owner of a high rise building which was not in use near the temple to accommodate the “houseless” temporarily. The high-rise building was formerly a hotel and the owner was in Mumbai. Talks were on to get the building temporarily. He said that since it was rainy season more people, mainly migrant workers, used bus-stands and railway stations to sleep at night.

Mr. Kumar said the civic body was now conducting a survey of “houseless” in the city every fortnight. The Supreme Court in 2010 had asked urban local bodies to conduct a survey of people who slept on pavements. It had asked urban local bodies to set up temporary night shelters and make arrangements for constructing permanent ones.

Now a days problem is with private bus crews:nuts:. RTO and bus owners associations must educate these goonda crews how to respect passengers specially women and senior citizens. They don't have any concern for passengers, for them what matters is collection:bash::ohno:. Buses are good no doubt about that. Roads being in worst condition around Mangalore they maintain their buses very well.:cheers:

Hope this time Mangalore gets a new railway division as it is a long pending demand from this region.
What would be the name for new division in Mangalore if approved,I guess it may be West Coast Railway??:)

No the criteria is different nowadays.
Owners hand over the bus to bus-crew they fill the diesel and all other payments.. They have to give fixed amount of money to the owner irrespective of collection.. If the collection is more then they will get incentives..

Then the solution seems to be quite simple. The bus-owners should say to bus-crews that we will give you salary only nothing else like any other organization.

Sahil, sorry for kidding.

They had recently proposed, during GIM-2012, CPS based system for Mangaluru. You can monitor the things with GPS along with video camera from Control Room. Nobody came forward to execute the project I think. But, the government has to send money on Control Room Equipments though bus end equipment is purchased by bus-owner. They have to find a way to make money. Oneway maybe removing all fuel subsidizes and then spending the money on system like GPS. If they remove all subsidies for atleast upper middle class then we can do think of doing more development works. (Forget about corruption, it is common in any project.) So, what I feel is personal vehicle owners should be ready to pay normal price for fuel along with other taxes. Then only we can get rid off such problem earliest. Otherwise we have to wait for ADB or World Bank loan.

(You can do anything but should give this much amount daily.) If bus-owners come out of this laziness then things can improve.

KSRTC has got a better monitoring system I think. And ITS (GPS, etc) of Mysuru is a success I think.

^^Mangalore- udupi Buses had GPS 2 or 3 which announce the next stop and some take care of belongings kind of tips about 300m before the stop.Now they dont have it.It was great help for tourists.I used to look at people who looked new to city what they felt during announcement.They were praising the technology which they didn't expect in a private bus. As all buses have soundbox they can at least have arrangement of a tape which driver switches on before the stop if gps is expensive.

This never used to be the case in the era of CPC,SVM,Bharath ,Ballal motors etc. Conductors used to be very polite. I had one incident in the 80's when one of the CPC agent was very rude. I wrote a letter to CPC. They replied and transferred that agent from Surathkal to some other place. You will not see that now. The bus crews are treated better in KSRTC with respect to pay and other conditions. There are several routes in Mangalore which have shortage of buses . I am not sure if operators do not want to ply or they are not given permits, As many as 1000 permits are still pending in Mangalore.
Finally when it comes to innovation in a functional way private operators are slow. I am not talking about the paint ,windows , speakers or alloy wheels. I am talking of green buses ,CNG buses ,low floor buses ,facilities for the elderly and disabled people. I agree that Mangalore private buses are far better than their counterparts in neighbouring states but no match to those environmentally friendly buses in Delhi or Gujarat.They have along long way to go. Let us hope this will happen in a big way ... not on a few routes.

I think it had other facilities like announcing stops and other things like not to forget to take belongings.Most buses used to have high steps . Some of them have been rectified. We need buses that automatically comes down a bit at stops so as to make it easier to board.

KSRTC will never be able to match private buses in terms of numbers in the city. If tomorrow the govt decides to nationalise(will never happen) Mangalore services it will never be able to introduce adequate numbers . So we will have a situation where people will be waiting for half an hour to catch a bus something people from Southcanara will not be able to stomach after having got used to the superb frequency.I would prefer KSRTC to ply along with private service .

The situation is that private bus service is very strongly established in south canara.
Whatever service that ksrtc provides cannot be provided by private bus transport and its vice versa and at the end of the day I doubt every private bus can be energy efficient and user friendly.
I am not concluding that Ksrtc is very user friendly and efficient:lol:
What I am trying to say is if the city transport is under one umbrella like BMTC,it can operate more efficiently and provide user friendly services.
They should have low floor buses,should be less pollutant like green buses.
Frequency of buses should be more etc.

Its Excelsior Nissan,I think its in Kottara.
It was the only showroom of Nissan in karnataka outside Bangalore before somedays,but Nissan is now opened in Mysore too,I think its Honnasiri Nissan:)

ಈ ಎಲ್ಲ 12 ಗ್ರಾಮಸ್ಥರಿಗೆ ಅನುಕೂಲವಾಗುವಂತೆ ತೊಕ್ಕೋಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಡ ಕಚೇರಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶವಿದೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಸೂಕ್ತ ಸ್ಥಳಾವಕಾಶ ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸುವಂತೆ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾಧಿಕಾರಿ ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಸಂಬಂಧಪಟ್ಟ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೂಚನೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದು, ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಜಾಗದ ಪರಿಶೀಲನೆ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಯು.ಟಿ. ಖಾದರ್* ವಿವರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

The State government has set out on an ambitious plan to develop five cities across the State - Gulbarga, Hubli-Dharwad, Belgaum, Mangalore and Mysore - as national centres of information and communication technologies (ICT) by 2020.

The task has been entrusted to the eight-member Karnataka ICT Group 2020. The ICT Group has T V Mohandas Pai, chairman of Manipal Global Education Services, as its chairman. B V Naidu, chairman and CEO of Sagitaur Ventures India, is the vice-chairman. Among the other members of the Group are Sadagopan and Sudip Banerjee - IIIT Bangalore Directors; Sanjay Nayak, CEO and MD of Tejas Networks.

The airport, being developed on a PPP model in Gulbarga, is likely to be operational next month. The city is also making strides towards becoming a technology hub. An Apparel Park and IT Park are already being developed in the city. There is a proposal to set up a Tur Industry Cluster in the city, besides an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT). The city is already home to a Central university. All these are likely to create huge employment opportunities for people in the region.

The ICT Group is expected to work towards increasing the annual revenue from ICT industries from the present Rs 1.35 lakh crore to Rs 4 lakh crore by 2020; increase employment in ICT sector from eight lakh to 20 lakh; create/help incubate 1,000 start-ups/entrepreneur-driven companies. Experts have predicted a 15 per cent annual growth in the ICT industry and an increase in the State’s share in the global ICT market.

The other goals before the ICT Group include making Bangalore the global city of choice in ICT; suggesting policy initiatives to promote entrepreneurship in the five national ICT centres; and setting up incubation facilities there.

Formed in partnership with Singapore, Japan, Australia, France, Taiwan and Germany to accelerate business cooperation and entrepreneurship, it has also been entrusted with the task of creating centres of excellence in major universities of the State.

He said that if there was enough cargo, KRCL would get the facilities needed in a short time. When pointed out that a cargo complex was coming up at the airport complex at Bajpe, he said KRCL too “will set the ball rolling.”

ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್ ಬೀಚ್
ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿ ತಾಣ ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್ ಬೀಚ್. ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಎತ್ತರದ ಬಂಡೆಗಲ್ಲಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರ ಅನುಕೂಲಕ್ಕೆ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದ ವಿಹಾರ ಗೋಪುರ ಹಾಗೂ ಆಸನ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ನಿಸರ್ಗದ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಸವಿಯಲು ಹೇಳಿ ಮಾಡಿಸಿದಂತಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ದೀಪಸ್ತಂಭಕ್ಕೆ ಟಿಕೆಟ್ ಪಡೆದು ಮೇಲಕ್ಕೆ ಹತ್ತಿಹೋದರೆ ಕಡಲಿನ ವಿಶಾಲ ತಡಿ ಕಣ್ಣೆದುರು ಪೂರ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಂಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಮುಸ್ಸಂಜೆಯಲ್ಲಂತೂ ಇದರ ಮೇಲಕ್ಕೆ ಹತ್ತಿ ನಿಂತರೆ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಡಗುಗಳು ಬೆಳಕಿನ ಪುಟ್ಟ ಪುಟ್ಟ ತೇರುಗಳಂತೆ ಕಂಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನಿಂದ 17 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿನ ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್ ಬೀಚ್ ಇದೆ.

ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್*ಗೆ ಸಮೀಪದಲ್ಲಿನ ಸಸಿಹಿತ್ಲು ಬೀಚ್ ಎರಡು ಕಾರಣಗಳಿಂದ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧಿ ಪಡೆದಿದೆ. ಕಡಲಿನಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆನಿಂತ ದೇವಿ ಭಗವತಿ ಸನ್ನಿಧಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಅಳಿವೆಬಾಗಿಲು ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರನ್ನು ತನ್ನತ್ತ ಸೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕಡಲಿನ ಬದಿಯಲ್ಲೇ ಸಾಗುವ ಮೂರು ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ಉದ್ದದ ರಸ್ತೆ ಜನಾಕರ್ಷಣೆ ಪಡೆದಿದೆ. ರಸ್ತೆಯ ಒಂದು ಬದಿ ನಂದಿನಿ ನದಿಯ ಕವಲು ಹರಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ, ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಬದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶಾಲ ಸಮುದ್ರ ಭೋರ್ಗರೆಯುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ದೇವಳದ ಎದುರಿಗೇ ಇರುವ ಕಡಲ ಕಿನಾರೆಯ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯ ಸವಿಯುತ್ತಾ ಎರಡು ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ಉದ್ದಕ್ಕ ನಡೆದರೆ ಕಡಲು ಮತ್ತು ನದಿಯ ಸಂಗಮ ಸ್ಥಳ ಎದುರಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಸಿಹಿತ್ಲು ಬೀಚ್*ಗೆ ಹೋಗುವ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರು ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್*ನಿಂದ ಸಿಟಿಬಸ್*ನಿಂದ ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಬೀಚ್ ತಲುಪಬಹುದು. ಇಲ್ಲವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ವಿಸ್ ಬಸ್*ಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಮುಕ್ಕ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣ ತಲುಪಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಮುಂದೆ ರಿಕ್ಷಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೀಚ್ ತಲುಪಬಹುದು.

ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿ ತಾಣವೆಂದರೆ ಕಾಪು ಬೀಚ್. ಸಹಜವಾಗಿ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಗೊಂಡ ಆನೆಗಾತ್ರದ ಬಂಡೆಗಲ್ಲುಗಳು, ದೀಪಸ್ತಂಭ ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಪ್ಲಸ್ ಪಾಯಿಂಟ್. ಬೀಚ್*ನಲ್ಲೇ ಇರುವ ಕರಾವಳಿ ಶೈಲಿಯ ಖಾದ್ಯವನ್ನು ಉಣಬಡಿಸುವ ರೆಸ್ಟೋರೆಂಟ್ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚೆಚ್ಚು ತನ್ನತ್ತ ಸೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಕಾಪು ಬೀಚ್ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನಿಂದ 40 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ.

ಮಲ್ಪೆ ಬೀಚ್-ಸೈಂಟ್ ಮೆರೀಸ್ ಐಲ್ಯಾಂಡ್
ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಹಾಟೆಸ್ಟ್ ಸ್ಪಾಟ್ ಎಂದರೆ ಮಲ್ಪೆ ಬೀಚ್. ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಸೈಂಟ್ ಮೆರೀಸ್ ಐಲ್ಯಾಂಡ್ ಯುವಜೋಡಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸ್ವರ್ಗ ಸಮಾನ. ಮಲ್ಪೆ ಬೀಚ್*ನಿಂದ ಹೊರಡುವ ಬೋಟ್ ಮೂಲಕ ಸೈಂಟ್ ಮೆರೀಸ್ ದ್ವೀಪವನ್ನು ತಲುಪಿದರೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವಚ್ಛಂದವಾಗಿ ನೀರಾಟ ಆಡಿ ವಿಹರಿಸಬಹುದು. ಬೀಚ್ ಬದಿಯಲ್ಲೇ ಐಶಾರಾಮಿ ರೆಸ್ಟೋರೆಂಟ್ ಇಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು, ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಗೆ ತಕ್ಕಂತೆ ಆಹಾರ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಮರವಂತೆ ಕಡಲ ಕಿನಾರೆ

30 flr building is in licensing stage and may launch next month end .

In a step that could redefine Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) in the tourism sector, a unique model of such partnership is expected to become a reality in Kerala with the government, consortium of hotel owners and other allied agencies coming together to launch sea plane service to facilitate speedy connectivity with resort destinations of Kumarakom and Bekal. If this dream project comes true, Kumarakom, a world famous backwater resort destination in Southern Kerala; and Bekal, a beach destination in the North Kerala, will be connected by sea planes from Kochi and Mangalore respectively by the end of this year. This information was shared by Vivek Nair, Vice Chairman of Hotel Leelaventure Ltd and Chairman of the South India Hotel & Restaurants Association (SIHRA) recently in Delhi. The initiative will reduce the travel time from airports at Kochi and Mangalore to these destinations in a big way.

MANGALORE: Builders affiliated to Confederation of Real Estate and Developers' Associations of India (CREDAI) in this coastal city have come forward to contribute their bit to city's effort against vector borne diseases. Often at the wrong end of Mangalore City Corporation's drive against malaria, especially in construction sites, CREDAI has come forward to provide manpower and logistical support to help keep tabs on incidence of malaria.

CREDAI accordingly has agreed to provide three vehicles fitted with GPS. Each vehicle with six personnel will visit construction sites and monitor it for conditions that allow mosquito larvae to breed there. Two of the personnel will collect blood smears from onsite construction workers, two inspect the site and remaining two take notes of shortcomings noted, if any, and inform the respective project developers to take corrective actions.

With nearly 470 construction sites dotting the city landscape, it will be a tough ask for these three teams to visit all of them, corporation commissioner Harish Kumar said. CREDAI has also come forward to develop in-house software that will enable it to monitor the visit of the teams to construction sites, and confirm their meeting with the site supervisors, who will be the persons responsible to ensure that sites are mosquito breeding free zones.

Harish said this arrangement will however not come in the way of the civic body initiating penal action against promoters of building projects if their construction sites are found to be spawning spread of the disease. "Mangalore City corporation teams have inspected around 60 construction sites and cancelled licenses in three instances for violating guidelines on keeping their area free from malaria causing female anopheles mosquitoes," he noted.

The civic body has also reached out to hotel owners asking them to maintain cleanliness of their premises and avoid spread of the disease, he said. "We have suggested them to deploy teams of private health inspectors for periodical examination of hotel premises as well as the place where their employees rest and provide mosquito nets to them," he said, adding regular screening of hotel employees too would be done to check for malaria.

The second State-level conference of CREDAI-Karnataka will be held in Mangalore on August 25.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr P.M.A. Razak, President of CREDAI (Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India), Mangalore chapter, said the event would focus on the theme ‘Homes for all’.

CREDAI was keen to provide the common man affordable housing based on the green housing concept in accordance with Government policies. The rising cost of building materials had led to escalation in apartment costs across the country. In such a situation, CREDAI was exploring ways to reduce cost without sacrificing the quality of apartments, he said.

The meet would have panel discussions on affordable housing and ECBC (Environmental Conservation Building Code) norms, among others. It would also discuss skill development in the construction sector. “There is a need to convert unskilled labour into skilled labour and to improve efficiency in the construction sector,” he said.

Given the undue delay in clearance of many projects, he said the conference would focus on the issue of single-window clearance.

Mr Razak said builders from Karnataka and the neighbouring States were expected to attend the convention.

Mr Jagadish Shettar, Chief Minister of Karnataka, would inaugurate the convention on August 25, he said.

Most of the high end cars are registered from Pondicherry Kerala and Goa. And you will also find vehicles from Maharashtra registered. U know yonepoya group they have all their vehicles registered in Kozhikode RTO (KL 11) including their Range Rover and Mercedes Benz cars and many are there

It is essential to keep investor sentiments intact in business investments in any region. Steps should be taken to prevent untoward incidents such the July 28 attack on youths in Mangalore.

These views were expressed at a meeting of prominent citizens of Mangalore under the banner of ‘Arise Mangalore’ on Sunday.

KNOWLEDGE ECONOMY

Naren K., chief executive officer of i-Point Consulting Pvt Ltd, said Mangalore’s economy is bound to grow on knowledge economy in the coming days.

The IT companies, which were set up by small entrepreneurs, with 50-60 people are growing in the city. Mangalore has all the facilities for the growth of such enterprises. The window of opportunity available in this sector will go away if the society is prone to such untoward incidents, he said.

It is now time for the citizens to put pressure on the authorities concerned to prevent any such untoward incidents in future, Naren said. Coming together of like-minded people should happen in this regard, he added.

BRAND MANGALORE

Lata Kini, former president of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that business in any region is driven by sentiments.

Brand Mangalore has been built painstakingly by elders, and such untoward incidents will have an impact on investments, she said.

N. Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University, said youths should be seen assets to society and not as liabilities. Strict action should be initiated against those youths who attacked another group of youths, he said.

“If you cannot confront such things, we will be a backward country,” he said.

APPREHENSIONS

Quoting his recent experience, Walter D’Souza, chairman of Federation of Indian Export Organisations (Southern Region), said that one of the foreign investors who visited Mangalore recently had expressed apprehensions about the city. Either nip it (anti-social elements) in the bud or uproot it, he said.
