Hi guys,
I'm in Singapore right now on holiday. On my way here, I've stopped in Saudi for two weeks, visiting all the main cities. Jeddah is really booming construction wise. There's a ridiculous amount of shopping malls in particular being built, and they're going up at a very rapid pace thanks to precast block construction. King's road, and Prince Sultan street have expanded north big time, going well past the airport. However, I arrived just 2 days after the consulate attack (as well as Faqeeh's "coup" while I was there) , and so I was a bit wary of taking photos with my big and bulky camera when security is jumpy.
Some highlights:
There's a fantastic looking business park on Prince Sultan street called 21 north Jeddah. It's simply stunning. Sandstone metal and glass cladding. Angular style with curved surfaces. Really massive, occupies a whole subdivision block (or at least feels that big). Completed
Corniche hotel: The seven star hotel the Faisaliya group is building is nearly finished. It's located on the corniche, right next to the intersection with Sari street. They've finished with the cladding and have already started interior fitting. A work colleague who's involved as a contractor tells me it is the most luxurious place he's seen. The average room has 3 plasma screens! It will be operated by Rosewood hotles, who run the Faisaliya. The building consists of a tall tower that slightly resembles the Kingdom tower (although shorter, and cladded in blue glass and sandstone, and the top hole is rounder) with a second shorter cylinderical tower.
Ka3ki's corniche tower (don't know its name). A condo tower right next to Corniche Gardens. At the moment all you can see are three concrete cores rising up, as well as a steel framed podium at the bottom. The cores are already about 50% higher than corniche gardens, so it should be massive.
Medina is also seeing a lot of construction, as is Riyadh (Olaya is really filling up).
That's all for now.
Salamlam
