Zenica... a mostly industrialized central Bosnian city. Around 150,000 people call it home, and its the fourth largest city in the country. Here are some photos I located on the internet.

Yeah, it's residential but I don't know how high!

Centre of Zenica is nice and some newer residential areas as well but a big part of those commieblocks are just ugly. But hey, what's new?! ;)

I personally love Zenica. It is a extremely industrial as well as beautiful. I don't know how much construction is going down there, but if the right buildings get built, it will have a wonderfull skyline! :)
BTW, I couldn't tell you the actuall hight of the residential building, but it's pretty big! :)

Yeah, depressing...that was the word! It was big industrial city, and now industry is dead (that kind of industry doesn't have any future) and they'll have to think something else. Big city (I think it's 100.000 population) without any future I would say :(

The only good thing they have are Robijaši, supporters of Zenica Čelik football club ;)

BH Steel found some new investors last year and it will expand with a new plant, worth of EUR 40 million.

I wouldn't call that dead.

Furthermore the city is expanding, new residential areas are popping up. So I guess some see having it a future then. ;)

According the official site the city itself has a population of 145.000.

But yeah, for the biggest part it's just an ugly industrial city.

Timur, how can Zenica ever be what it used to be? Nooo...it's not that I have something against the city, but it's dieing, and I can see it. Željezara allready died, and it will be hard to make it work again.

Before war it was ugly as well, but everybody had job somewhere, mostly in Željezara, but Zenica had huge air pollution, it was unhealthy to live there. Banja Luka also had huge industrial area, but city government decided to destroy all those buildings: Incel, Celuloza, Vrbas...becose they decided to promove Banja Luka as city of tourism and economy. That's something what Banja Luka and Sarajevo can do, but Zenica? No.

Yeah there's really not much for Zenica to "come back to". It was nonexistant until after WWII when it became a hub for industry. Very polluted. Its mostly good as a center of population. The only thing it can "come back to" is a better economy.

There was some major foreign investment there last summer however, so its getting better.

Didn't Turkey invest in Zenica with a great amount of money or something? I remember reading that on this forum somewhere...Anyway's, yes...It didn't have much to look up to before, but I think every city in BIH has a future, just let the economy rise a bit more...

lol

I know I wouldn't want to live there.

By the way, the first years after the war there was talk, mostly coming from Zenica to drop Sarajevo as the capital city and give Zenica the status!

That was the best laugh I ever had.

They still want to be something they are not.

I mean, Banja Luka is capital city of Republika Srpska, Sarajevo is die Hauptsta...capital city of Bosnia-Herzegovina, and I think Mostar should be capital of Federation. It's not my problem, it's your republic and you can do whatever you want, but it's a bit stupid to have Sarajevo as capital city of both, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Federation...

Anyway this thread is about ZENICA and I'm sorry I went off-topic ;)

This city has so much potential
I am surprised you find it ugly , in the contrary , if a little invetment is put into this city it can be an exiting attraction
I like the streets , the way things look in general , the river is also very cool
You can do wonders in here

I personally do think that Zenica isn't the most beautiful city in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but I do however believe that the city has a great potential. Given some time and money, the city could be cleaned up, and have some great projects along the river...

I say, give the commies some paint, and plant some more plants and other decorations, and the city will turn very beautiful. With some more modern buildings, the city would look great. You can see in some pictures, there are some newly built glass buildings, and they look very nice...

EDIT: I'd like to also add the terrible weather doesn't make any city look good. :)

I'm pleasently surprised by the little skyscraper they have...

On the other hand.. I've heard that the place stinks horribly. Easily the most polluted city in the country.

Plus considering how the people there feel about Sarajevo I can't really bring myself to think too highly of them.

Yes, we know.

It should be noted that the city is 83% Bosniak and that SDA won the municipial elections in a landslide.

And did you know that asides from chanting "Serbia, Serbia!!!" the stadium also had chants about Markale and Srebrenica?

It's not politics, they're just willing to sink that low to insult Sarajevo fans.

It's not something that is specific to Zenica - surely it's a very powerful sentiment there, but it's shared in some form or another with most of Bosnia-Herzegovina. They can't understand why so many of our country's limited military resources were used to defend a city the Cetniks were instructed to "bomb them into madness" but not conquer, ethnically cleanse, etc. Why did we need so many soldiers where their villages and towns were falling, one by one. "A bomb blast in Sarajevo was not nearly as terrifying as a knock at the door in Srebrenica."

To a certain extent I agree. I just feel if we had left Sarajevo defenseless they would've taken the city - and if Sarajevo fell, Bosnia-Herzegovina fell without question. Then you have the normal tensions (usually friendly, though not in this case) in a country where the capital city is so overpowering. It's the same in Sweden.

In any event, if push comes to shove - if we face an outside threat - I'm certain we will be reunited. It's the same in a larger sense also. Nothing could bring Croatia, Bosnia, and Serbia together again like a good Austrian, Russian, or Turkish invasion. ;)
