F1 Grand Prix Istanbul 2005

The Project

Being constructed by EVREN® Enginnering and Construction (www.evrengroup.com) and owned by FIYAS (an Istanbul Chamber of Commerce organization); Formula 1 Istanbul Racing Circuit is a project of national importance for the Republic of Turkey . The Circuit is scheduled to take part in 2005 Formula 1 racing program.

The Site of the Project is located on the Asian side of Istanbul , 6 km from the junction of Kurtkoy on the north side of TEM Motorway, linking Istanbul to Ankara . The site is close to the newly constructed Sabiha Gokcen Istanbul Airport . In addition to easy access form TEM and Airport, the Site is located within the green belt surrounded by forest and cultivated green fields. The area is clean of any pollution and pleasantly attractive for out door activities.

The total area allocated for the Project is 2,215,000 m2. The racing circuit which runs counter-clockwise is 5,378m long with an average width of 15m, excluding Runoff Areas. The Circuit is composed of 13 curves, of which 6 are right turns and 7 left turns. The sharpest turn will have a radius of 15m. The start and finish section is 655.5m in length. The Circuit runs over 4 level sections with rising and descending grades. The maximum theoretical speed expected to be achieved will be 320.5 Km/hr.

The main parking areas, with the total parking capacity of 20,000 are located along the outer peripheral ring road which is 5,482m in length and will facilitate the movement of traffic on the outer limits of the project area.

In addition, the project consists of 2.3 km of inner service roads and emergency lanes. There will be 4 under-passes and 3 pedestrian over passes linking the natural ground stands and temporary moveable stands with the parking areas. The central area is reserved for the construction of Go-Cart Racing track.

The main Grand Stand is under construction over an area of 12,700m2 and shall have the seating capacity of 30,000 spectators. In addition, the temporary stands and natural ground stands will provide a total capacity of over 155,000 spectators. The paddock buildings are two level structures. The ground floor sections are for the F1 teams and the upper floors will serve as hospitality areas with additional viewing capacity of 5,000 seats. There are two VIP towers being constructed at the two ends of paddock buildings, each consisting of 7 floors to provide a floor space of 7,392 m2.

EVREN® is working in two “10.5 hour shifts” to achieve the completion of the Project on time for 2005 Racing Schedule. As of December 2004, there are 27 engineers, 1450 construction workers and over 140 construction machines and equipment deployed on site.

It looks blue, how can a canyon inspired building be blue? It doesnt make sense! It would be OK if it was called Istanbul Ocean or something like that. :bash:

The canyon tower is not called canyon because of the colour the buildings has but because of the structure.I think having blue towers makes Istanbul more special.Istanblue ;) Blue waters of marmara,blue sky and blue skyscrapers.For exaplme look at Garanti tower,it doesn't fit to Istanbul,it looks cold and more nothern european,the colour doesn't fit to our climate.

A Friend of wowTurley.com works for Thornton-Tomasetti (Taipei 101 and Petronas towers) in NY.
The Architects made the Diamond of Istanbul skyscraper higher. Actualy height is 270m!!!
But they are still working on the Design.

Ten new 33-floor office, residential and hotel skyscrapers are coming to Maslak. Construction works will start on April 2005 (check out the news section of Skyscrapers.Com). Nicknamed the "Mashattan" project.

2) TWIN TOWERS FOR SISLI:

Massive twins by Cevahir Holdings are on the rise right behind Sisli Culture & Trade Center.

3) 33-FLOOR SKYSCRAPER FOR LEVENT:

Another 33-floor skyscraper (this time for Levent) is coming.

4) CONSTRUCTION WORKS HAVE RESUMED AT TATKO ISTANBUL

Now renamed as "AS Towers" and purchased by the Turkish correspondent of Four Seasons Hotels: One office tower, one hotel tower.

Maslak looks like it's going to take the lead from Levent in the near future, and not surprisingly so, as there are many emptyn spaces behind the current array of buildings in the area all along Buyukdere Avenue, something which allows for further commercial development.

I only hope that the proposed towers will be in a prominent spot and not in a similar location where the Polaris is located where you have such a nice tower being "sunk" because of the terrain and barely visible from the main road.

I also like Sisli and I believe that with the new projects it will be a complete and self-sufficient skyline, something well deserved by its position and the number of projects currently under development in the area.

And something else I would like to ask: Any news from the Asian side? Looks like most commercial developments and offices are on the European side, with the excpertion of Kozyatagi. Any projects there?

Impressive array of projects with all the scrapers (with the exception of the big needle-shaped twins, c'mon guys this is too much :D) probably to be built within the next 3 to 5 years. Like I said in another post, let's hope the Diamond of Istanbul to be just the beginning... This city has a lot of potential yet to be realised, I mean Levent and Maslak (leaving aside Sisli and the Asian side) are almost empty, despite the scrapers already been built there. That's what I call potential...
