So, do you folks think this would be useful, or even used all that much?

I don't know that it's necessary. We seem to keep track of things well enough without one?

Whatever though; wouldn't bother me either way.

On the other hand maybe a thread that like is being proposed is a good idea. There are over 6000 condos being built and sold a year in downtown alone and thousands more from he South Side lakefront neighborhoods up through the North Side lakefront neighborhood each year. Chicago has built 70,000 condos in the past several years of which 32,000 were in downtown and the rest in the densley packed lakefront neighborhoods most within a few miles of downtown. I'm not sure how many people are aware of how much development is going on in Chicago.

It would be helpful to have a one stop resource for looking up and posting information instead of it scattered out all over the place. Duplication of information or an article relevant to the topic of the thread from that thread to the P&C thread is o.k. but this P & C thread would have only the construction news, not all the other stuff, and would I feel be very helpful and interesting. It would also be a handy reference when a debate pops up and one doesn't have to search around forever for information, hehe.

If it's good enough for NYC, I guess it's good enough for us.

it would be cool to have threads about evey building under construction in the city, and post pics and update on em... etc. this way, those threads wont get buried by the usual mass of threads in the general chi forum. i say go for it!

My logic is that this forum has been around for a while now, and is doing well. I figure if given a little room to grow, it will.

What do others think?

I agree and like I said before it would be extremely interesting and useful to have a thread like P&C to keep track of all the construction and various projects. SSC is about cities and urban life and Chicago is building an awesome urban city, the statistics and construction speak for themselves.

Jasonhouse, you may also want to move "Back to Block 37" to the P & C subforum.

Thanks a lot--I think the P & C subforum is exactly what we need here

Remember, folks no longer have to compress project info into a "development news" style thread. Each project can get its own thread, or you can have a thread for a whole nieghborhood or whatever.

Other such forums on SSC eventually have an "index" thread stickied, which links to all of the project threads within the forum. But that won't be for a while, when there are many more threads and activity, plus I will have to appoint a local editor to maintain the list.
