Το νέο αρχαιολογικό μουσείο θα κοστίσει 16.000.000€, και θα καλύπτει
επιφάνεια 8.000m2. To έργο πρόκειται να ολοκληρωθεί το 2006.
Πιστεύω είναι ένα εξαιρετικό αρχιτεκτονικό έργο για την είσοδο της πόλης.

Το κτίριο χαρακτηρίζεται από την τεθλασμένη ανάπτυξη των αιθουσών του
και τον επιβλητικό ελλειψοειδή όγκο από τιτάνιο στην είσοδο του, ο οποίος
εδράζεται σε υδάτινη επιφάνεια. Το νέο μουσείο θα εκτείνεται σε μία έκταση
8.000 τετραγωνικών μέτρων, ενώ οι εκθεσιακοί χώροι θα καλύπτουν
περισσότερα από 3.000 τετραγωνικά μέτρα.

Το μέγεθος του νέου μουσείου, το οποίο θα πρέπει να είναι έτοιμο το 2006,
το έτος που η Πάτρα θα είναι Πολιτιστική Πρωτεύουσα της Ευρώπης, θα δώσει
την ευκαιρία να παρουσιαστούν για πρώτη φορά, σημαντικότατα εκθέματα
από τους αρχαιολογικούς θησαυρούς της Αχαΐας, όπως εκπληκτικά ψηφιδωτά
της ρωμαϊκής εποχής αλλά και πολλά εκθέματα τα οποία λόγω του όγκου
τους δεν μπορούν να παρουσιαστούν στο υπάρχον μουσείο. Και επειδή
ζούμε στην εποχή της ταχύτητας, έχει προβλεφθεί ένας εναέριος διάδρομος,
ο οποίος θα απευθύνεται στους επισκέπτες που θέλουν να κάνουν μια
σύντομη περιήγηση του μουσείου.

Κάτω από τους γεωμετρικούς όγκους και τον ιδιαίτερο ημισφαιρικό θόλο
(που «πατά» σε μια υδάτινη επιφάνεια ) , το νέο μουσείο, συνολικής
έκτασης 8.000 τ.μ., το οποίο βρίσκεται δίπλα στην Εθνική Οδό (για όσους
ξέρουν λίγο πριν το Βασιλόπουλο στα αριστερά ) , στην περιοχή της
Ανθούπολης, θα φιλοξενήσει αρχαιότητες από ολόκληρη την Αχαΐα,
ανάμεσά τους και έργα που θα εκτεθούν για πρώτη φορά, όπως ρωμαϊκά
ψηφιδωτά.

Δύο διαφορετικές διαδρομές θα έχουν να επιλέξουν οι επισκέπτες που θα
θελήσουν να περιδιαβούν τα 3.500 τ.μ. των εκθεσιακών χώρων, που
βρίσκονται στο ισόγειο του κτιρίου. Είτε την κλασική, ανάμεσα στις
προθήκες, είτε τον εναέριο διάδρομο, που προσφέρει μια διαφορετική
οπτική των εκθεμάτων.

Τρεις βασικές ενότητες, οι οποίες θα αφορούν τον δημόσιο και τον ιδιωτικό
βίο και τις νεκροπόλεις, θα φιλοξενηθούν στις ισάριθμες αίθουσες του
νέου μουσείου, όπως και ολόκληρα σύνολα από οικίες, αίθρια και
δεξαμενές με ψηφιδωτά, που θα φθάνουν έως και τη Ρωμαϊκή Εποχή,
καθώς τα βυζαντινά ευρήματα θα φιλοξενηθούν στο Βυζαντινό Μουσείο της
πόλης, στο παλιό νοσοκομείο Πάτρας.

Η έκθεση δεν θα περιορίζεται στο μουσείο. Προβλέπεται η κατασκευή τριών
ημιϋπαίθριων ειδικών χώρων, καθώς και η δημιουργία επί της Εθνικής
Οδού αρχαιολογικού πάρκου, όπου θα παρουσιάζονται έργα αρχαίας
τέχνης.

Το μουσείο, το οποίο σχεδίασε ο αρχιτέκτονας Θεοφάνης Μπομπότης, θα
διαθέτει ακόμη ανεξάρτητη αίθουσα περιοδικών εκθέσεων, αμφιθέατρο,
χώρο εκπαιδευτικών προγραμμάτων, πωλητήριο, αναψυκτήριο, εργαστήρια,
αποθήκες ( στο υπόγειο ) και γραφεία ( στον πρώτο όροφο ) .

Writecup some fresh news for you :)
Αυτή την περίοδο γίνονται χωματουργικές εργασίες ( θεμέλια κτλπ ) .
Ο χώρος είναι αρκετά μεγάλος και ακριβώς δίπλα στην κύρια είσοδο της πόλης. Από ότι όμως γνωρίζω το έργο δεν πρόκειται να είναι έτοιμο πριν από τα μισά του 2006 ( για να μην αναφέρω το ότι είναι και το μόνο πραγματικό έργο της πολιτιστικής ) , πράγμα που σημαίνει ότι για αρκετούς μήνες η πόλη θα υποδέχεται τους τυχόν επισκέπτες χωρίς να έχει κάτι καινούριο να δείξει.

The port of the city of Patras

Later on and after the development of Piraeus, the traffic began to decrease. In 1893 the Canal of Corinth was opened to shipping, connecting thus, the Aegean Sea with the Ionian. Consequently, the sea distance between Patras and Piraeus was decreased since the circumnavigation of Peloponnese was no longer obligatory.

The Port had an essential contribution to the Greek oversea immigration especially at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. The immigrants' main transportation means were the ocean-liners that frequently stopped by Patras. That was true till the 1960s as from that decade and afterwards airplanes replaced the ocean- liners due to the offering advantages.

The Greek immigrants until 1907, when the first Greek oceangoing passenger line was established used steamboats of foreign companies to reach America. Two such companies whose ocean-liners stopped by Patras were the German "Hambourg American Line" and mainly the Austrian "Αustro Americana" which primarily transported Greek immigrants to America till 1907.

For some years after World War II the port was decaying until some 30 years ago the connecting line of Patras-Italy by F/B started. Now, during summertime, there are more than 40 F/B connecting Patras with Italian ports

Patras New Port Project
In Patras, the port is playing a pivotal role and is helping to define the direction, vitality, and overall development of the city. As ports expand their scope beyond that of shipping and commerce, and also become seaside magnets for cultural, community, and leisure events, opportunities to participate in development projects increase considerably.

For many years, Patras languished, playing second fiddle to the port of Piraeus. Now, with a new port under construction, Patras is set to re-launch its title as Greece's "Gateway to the West."

Due to land limitations, the current port is unable to meet the requirements of passenger and cargo needs. In addition, its location creates traffic congestion that hinders the smooth circulation of traffic in the city and impedes the connection of automobiles and trucks to Greece's intercity transport network.
The new port is being constructed one kilometer north of the present port and will feature a three-kilometer waterfront that will be a multiple-use environment. It will have convenient access to land transport and will be directly linked to the new PATHE highway connecting Patras, Athens, and Thessaloniki.

A new 1,500-meter breakwater will protect the port, which will feature more than 1,000 meters of jagged wharves, five docking stations, and 250,000m2 of space to faciltiate passenger traffic. The sea has a depth of 11 meters so that most ships can be accommodated.

Patras is primarily a passenger terminal that connects to Italy, the Ionian islands (including Corfu), and Igoumenitsa by ferry boat. In 1991, a total of 890,000 passengers traveled through the port. In 2001, that number increased to 1,320,000. In fact, the port accommodates about half of all passenger traffic in Greece. Tourism also figures high on the new list of priorities for Patras Port Authority. According to Mr. Ioannidis, "The Port Authority, since it closely follows international tourism trends, aims to upgrade the 600-bertth marina for yachts, so that Patras may offer the finest services and facilities to boaters in Western Greece."

The new and improved port will also allow Patras to increase the commercial traffic passing through the city. The number of trucks that use ferries to transport goods has increased almost four-fold in the last decade, from 79,000 in 2001 to more than 280,000 in 2001. Officials are making sure that the facilities will meet the demands of the next decade. A commercial pier of 300 meters will accommodate cargo traffic and will offer more than 140,000m2 of storage space. Current plans also include a direct rail link to the national rail network which will create a seamless flow of passengers and goods in and out of Patras.
City officials foresee a revitalized city, port, and package of services that will put Patras more securely on the regional and world map.

yes Agios Andreas is the biggest church today in Greece. Another one of the same size (but in my opinion not bigger ) is the church of Agios Panteleimonas in the center of Athens.

Mvelig see above. Agios Demetrios is one of the oldest (for sure the oldest well preserved church) but not the biggest. These two above are the biggest in whol greece. :)
Anyway this is a Patras thread and not about the churches of Greece.

"Once upon a time there was a Bavarian called Gustav Clauss. Gustav very much liked drinking wine and reading books. One day while he was drinking some wine he started reading a nice book referring to Greece. Gustav was very impressed by the story of this country and decided to visit it .So it happened. In 1854 Gustav arrived in sunny Greece. He traveled round the country, which he considered most attractive until one day he reached Patras . Here he discovered a paradise of vineyards which covered the surrounding hills. Here, he thought must certainly produce the best wine. Without taking much into consideration he decided to settle down in Patras ,where he built a castle and within its walls he made a wine factory."

"Full of love and talent Gustav created many kinds of wines which started to be exported to the other European countries. Their names became famous all around Europe: Mavrodafni, Moschato, Demestiha."

lauss' venture attracted much attention from the start. From the initial vintages in the 1860s, his wines met with a warm reception in Europe. The first German exports began in 1869, establishing an immutable reputation that, according to legend, may well have spared the estate during the Nazi occupation of Patra during World War II.

The key to Clauss' success was a local cultivar, Mavrodafni, a transplant from the Ionian islands. For some centuries before the arrival of Clauss, the black currant had come to dominate the local agricultural landscape. Using the Mavrodafni, Clauss reestablished the wine grape as a viable regional crop (though the currant grape eventually found its way into both the winery's recipe and the eventual laws governing the appellation). With a northern European sweet wine aesthetic, an Iberian approach to vinification and a grape by nature low-producing, Clauss created a fortified wine of deep red color that was transformed slowly through controlled oxidation into a heavenly caramel nectar. The remarkable suitability of each element in his design well justifies his legendary posture.

Though its core products reside in a virtual lock box, today Achaia Clauss is a machine with a 20,000 unit-per-hour bottling capability, annual production of twenty-five million bottles and exports to nearly forty countries. Its portfolio consists of a staggering seventy labels, running the gamut from bulk-quality products to emerging boutique styles to rare Mavrodafni that is released from the winery's "Imperial Cellar" for only the most compelling clients and events.

This huge cellar contains casks from every vintage, each dedicated to a head of state or visiting dignitary. The tradition began with the unexpected arrival of the Empress Elizabeth of Austria at the estate in 1885 and led to a steady stream of visitations from Greek and foreign magnates, politicos and royalty. The estate's guestbook includes such luminaries as Franz Liszt, Eugene O'Neill, Field Marshal Montgomery, Neil Armstrong, Margaret Thatcher, and Valery Giscard d'Estaing. The cask holding the first vintage is adorned only with the number 601, denoting the page number of the notebook on which the original Mavrodafni recipe was written. The two casks containing 1882 are considered the creme de la creme, topped off annually to the point where the wine has reached a stabile equilibrium. The value of the cellar is estimated to be in the millions of dollars.

Αγαπητέ φίλε Προμηθέα ευχαριστώ για τις φωτογραφίες αλλά θα ήθελα να σε παρακαλέσω επειδή όλες αυτές από τις σελίδες της πόλης έχουν ήδη δημοσιευθεί αρκετές φορές , την επόμενη φορά να ρίχνεις μια ματιά μήπως τις έχει ξαναδείξει κάποιος άλλος. Όπως και να χει πάντως αν στο μέλλον έχεις κάτι καινούριο (πχ δικές σου ψηφιακές φωτογραφίες ) δείξε το αμέσως.

Τμήμα του Νέου Αρχαιολογικού Μουσείου θα φιλοξενήσει εκδηλώσεις του 2006 Ενα τεράστιο έργο υποδομής σε εξέλιξη
Της ΒΑΣΙΛΙΚΗΣ Σ. ΣΤΡΑΤΗ

Ελεγχο της πορείας εργασιών του Νέου Αρχαιολογικού Μουσείου της πόλης πραγματοποίησε χθες αρμόδιο κλιμάκιο του Υπουργείου Πολιτισμού με επικεφαλής τον προϊστάμενο της Υπηρεσίας Εκτέλεσης Έργων Μουσείων και Πολιτιστικών Κτιρίων Νίκο Λιβιεράτο

Ανάμεσα σε δεκάδες εργάτες , ογκώδη μηχανήματα , φορτηγά , μπουλντόζες και οικοδομικά υλικά που συνθέτουν το πραγματικά τεράστιο εργοτάξιο , του υπό ανέγερση Νέου Μουσείου της πόλης , βρέθηκε στην Πάτρα χθες ειδικό κλιμάκιο της αρμόδιας Διεύθυνσης του Υπουργείου Πολιτισμού . Ο στόχος της συγκεκριμένης επίσκεψης μόνο ως εθιμοτυπικός δεν μπορεί να χαρακτηριστεί καθώς είναι κοινή διαπίστωση ότι υπήρξαν μικρές καθυστερήσεις στην πορεία ανέγερσης . Καθυστερήσεις που προκλήθηκαν αφενός εξαιτίας της δυσκολίας άμεσης οργάνωσης του τεράστιου εργοταξίου στην περιοχή , αφετέρου λόγω των παρατεταμένων βροχοπτώσεων . Έτσι η Διεύθυνση Εκτέλεσης Έργων Μουσείων του ΥΠΠΟ παρακολουθεί επισταμένα το έργο το οποίο χαρακτηρίζεται ως έργο εθνικής εμβέλειας και για την κάλυψη των όποιων καθυστερήσεων αλλά και για έναν εκ του σύνεγγυς έλεγχο της σωστής εφαρμογής της μελέτης του έργου .

Η πορεία εργασιών

Επί του αποτελέσματος , λοιπόν , μέχρι σήμερα η μικρή παρέκκλιση στο χρονοδιάγραμμα εργασιών αναμένεται να καλυφθεί εξ ολοκλήρου εντός των ημερών . Το εργοτάξιο της αναδόχου Κοινοπραξίας εταιρειών : « Αναστηλωτική », « Θ . Καραγιάννης », « ΓΕΤΕΜ » και « ΕΤΕΘ », είναι οργανωμένο να εργάζεται παράλληλα σε τρία διαφορετικά σημεία του τεράστιου χώρου με δεκάδες εργάτες να εργάζονται πυρετωδώς .

Ετσι η θεμελίωση του οικοδομήματος έχει ολοκληρωθεί . Έχουν οικοδομηθεί οι υπόγειοι χώροι και ήδη ετοιμάζεται το ισόγειο επίπεδο ενώ σε δύο διαφορετικά σημεία το έργο έχει φτάσει σε πιο προχωρημένο στάδιο αφού έχουν οικοδομηθεί και οι κολόνες .

Ετσι και σύμφωνα με το χρονοδιάγραμμα μέχρι το τέλος του χρόνου θα έχουν ολοκληρωθεί οι εκθεσιακοί χώροι καθώς και οι αναγκαίοι χώροι πρόσβασης - χωρίς ωστόσο να έχει διαμορφωθεί απόλυτα ο περιβάλλων χώρος - ώστε να μπορέσουν να πραγματοποιηθούν κάποιες εκδηλώσεις για το 2006 , σύμφωνα με τις προθέσεις του Φορέα της Πολιτιστικής , απόρροια των πρώτων ανεπίσημων επαφών που έχουν πραγματοποιηθεί .

Ενέργειες για συγκοινωνιακό κόμβο

Στόχος , λοιπόν , της Διεύθυνσης Εκτέλεσης Εργων Μουσείων και Πολιτιστικών Κτιρίων είναι πρωτίστως η κάλυψη της μικρής παρέκκλισης από το αρχικό χρονοδιάγραμμα , ώστε μέχρι το τέλος του χρόνου να έχει ολοκληρωθεί ένα σημαντικό μέρος του έργου στο οποίο θα φιλοξενηθούν εκδηλώσεις της Πολιτιστικής , ενώ τον Ιούνιο του 2006 το Νέο Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο να έχει ολοκληρωθεί με κάθε λεπτομέρεια .

Επίσης η αρμόδια Διεύθυνση του ΥΠΠΟ ήδη επιλαμβάνεται του θέματος της δημιουργίας συγκοινωνιακού κόμβου στην περιοχή σε συνεργασία με την Περιφέρεια , που είναι η αρμόδια Υπηρεσία , ενώ εξετάζεται κάθε λεπτομέρεια ως προς την εφαρμογή της μελέτης του έργου .

Εν κατακλείδι η εμπειρία της Διεύθυνσης Εκτέλεσης Έργων Μουσείων και η αξιοπιστία της αναδόχου Κοινοπραξίας Εταιρειών που υλοποιεί το έργο παρέχουν ευοίωνες προοπτικές για την πορεία του .efhmer;ida

I would not say that , Patras is just a small city (compared to what a city is in Europe or even in turkey) which does not apply for a position "in the top of the list" :)
I just try to show through all these posts that there are also some other places out of the "athenocentric" greek state.
Still there are many problems to solve , but allready the city has started to change and i hope that more will come in the future. (For example why not a small tram network , an aquarium beside the sea , or some few highrise buildings)
And dont forget that -like in most modern greek cities- a "crime" happened also here in Patras when during 50s,60s,70s and 80s for 4 decades , hundreds of neoclassical beautiful houses/buildings were demolished just to be substituted by UGLY blocks of flats. But what can we do now?
So lets keep at least what is left from the old city and try to do modern things that will at the same time offer a better quality of life for the citizens and the visitors and also be aesthetically nice.
Thanks again for your interest and i will try to show more in the future to you all the friends here from the city and the whole region of achaia and peloponnisos .
And something last that perhaps you dont know , Peloponnisos is in the list of 10 poorest (GDP per capita talking ) regions of European Union (under 50-65%) of average EU income.
So even with all this "underdevelopment" we manage to survive. :)

Στη χθεσινή του συνέντευξη toυ ο υπουργός κ. Σουφλιάς αναφέρθηκε και στον υπόλοιπο προγραμματισμό του ΥΠΕΧΩΔΕ , ενώ σε ό , τι αφορά την περιοχή ανακοίνωσε ακόμη ότι « τους πρώτους μήνες του 2006 θα αναδειχθούν ανάδοχοι και στα έργα Κόρινθος - Πάτρα - Πύργος - Τσακώνα ».

Σχόλιο δικό μου : Αναμένουμε... αυτό έχει ακουστεί πολλές φορές τα τελευταία 15 χρόνια...

Ερχονται τα υδροπλάνα

Με την υπογραφή του υπουργού Ναυτιλίας σύντομα θα « πιάνουν » και Πάτρα τα υδροπλάνα , συνδέοντας την πόλη με τα Ιόνια Νησιά .

Μόλις χθες ο υπουργός Ναυτιλίας Μανώλης Κεφαλογιάννης υπέγραψε τη σχετική απόφαση που αφορά την Πάτρα , επιβεβαιώνοντας τον διευθύνοντα σύμβουλο του ΟΛΠΑ Σωτήρη Μαμμάση που απέδιδε τις όποιες καθυστερήσεις στο « πράσινο φως » που έπρεπε να ανάψει από το υπουργείο .

Κατόπιν της χθεσινής εξέλιξης , σήμερα κιόλας έχει προγραμματιστεί συνάντηση στον ΟΛΠΑ με εκπροσώπους της εταιρείας που φέρνουν τα υδροπλάνα και στην Πάτρα , προκειμένου να συζητηθεί η διαμόρφωση των εγκαταστάσεων και οι όποιες άλλες διαδικασίες απαιτούνται για τη δρομολόγηση των νέων μέσων που μειώνει σημαντικά τις αποστάσεις με το Ιόνιο .

Υπενθυμίζεται ότι από πλευράς του ο ΟΛΠΑ είχε προχωρήσει στις απαραίτητες ενέργειες και περίμενε την έγκριση του υπουργείου που σηματοδοτεί τις περαιτέρω διαδικασίες και καθορίζει τις προδιαγραφές .

Επομένως , θα πρέπει να θεωρείται βέβαιο ότι κατά τη φετινή τουριστική σαιζόν θα υπάρξει και εναλλακτικό μέσο θαλάσσιας σύνδεσης που θα επιτρέπει τη μετάβαση στην Κεφαλλονιά σε 20 λεπτά , στην Κέρκυρα σε 45 λεπτά , ενώ προγραμματίζονται επίσης συνδέσεις με Ζάκυνθο , Ιθάκη και Λευκάδα .

Ohhhhh....I don't know. Just millions of Greeks returning from rural areas to major cities, the destruction of most buildings by Germans and Italians during world war one hence the need to build new ones, a major civil war, a dictatorship.....etc....etc....

It was happening actually ever since the 20's and refugees from Asia Minor etc.... Most populations of cities in Greece doubled, and in Athens/Thessaloniki grew even more.

Then a continuation of world wars and civil wars, and bad planning/carelessness, and we have very little beautiful buildings left. :(

The major reason, was the policy of Konstantine Karamanlis Sr., who introduced the system of "Anti-parohi". This means that if you have a plot of land, or a plot of land with a small building, you give it to a constructor and in return he gives you a number of flats from the building that he builts. That meant that Athens lost many of the neoclassical and traditional buildings in favour of the tall concrete ugly-giants of the 60s-80s.
On the other hand this policy has made Greece one of the few places in the world that people own their property rather than rent it. About 70% of the Greeks own at least one house. I believe with the boom in the real-estate market this will drop as the prices have inflated whereas the salaries have not...

But to answer your question,

3. fashion (it was very trendy during the 60s to live in a block of flats rather than a house

Μια ενδιαφέρουσα πολύ παλιά φωτογραφία της πόλης ...

Είναι η αρχή της καταστροφής της πόλης εκείνη η περίοδος .
Εκατοντάδες πανέμορφα νεοκλασσικά και όχι μόνο κτήρια καταστράφηκαν/γκρεμίστηκαν στα επόμενα χρόνια για να δώσουν τη θέση τους σε κακάσχημες πολυκατοικίες...

Προσέξτε την απουσία πολυκατοικιών ( εκτός από λίγες που άρχισαν να κατασκευάζονται εκείνη την περίοδο )
Παρατηρείστε ακόμα την πολυ ωραία ρυμοτομία της πόλης (σήμερα έχει εξαφανιστεί ) , καθώς και την απουσία σοβαρής υποδομής στο λιμένα.
Επιπλέον στην εικόνα της πόλης δεσπόζουν οι ιεροί ναοί του Αγίου Ανδρέα (κάτω μέρος ) , της Παντάνασσας (δεξιά κέντρο ) και του Αγίου Διονυσίου (στο βάθος κοντά στο λιμάνι )

Τέλος παρατηρείστε πόσος χώρος ελέυθερος υπάρχει (ειδικά προς την πλευρά του Ρίου ) , χώρος που θα μπορούσε να σχεδιαστεί κατάλληλα ώστε η πόλη να επεκταθεί με σωστό και ανθρώπινο τρόπο...
τώρα πλεον είναι αργά...

Η υπόθεση των Πατρών αν και τυπική για τα Ελληνικά δεδομένα, δεν αποτελεί έκπληξη.

Για την καταστροφή της μέσα πόλης (γιατι μου άρεσε η παραλία μια - δυο φορές που πέρασα ) δεν ευθύνονται τα ψηλά κτίρια αλλά ο κακός σχεδιασμός των προτέρων κυβερνήσεων και η πυκνότητα δόμησης. Εάν δεν μας είχε πιάσει μανία αυτοκαταστροφής το 50-70 και τα νεοκλασσικά θα είχαμε, που μου αρέσουν φυσικά πολύ περισσότερο από τις γελοίες τσιμεντένιες πολυκατοικίες που ούτε μεγάλες είναι, ούτε ψηλές είναι, αλλά παρόλα αυτά καταφέρνουν με την ασχήμια τους να σου πλακώσουν την ψυχή.

Το μέλλον της Πάτρας βρίσκεται στην υψηλή τεχνολογία. Για την πόλη αυτή οραματίζομαι τεχνολογικά πάρκα με κτίρια χαμηλού ύψους, το πολύ μέχρι 4 ορόφων, με χαμηλούς συντελεστές, χαμένα μεσα στο πράσινο, τα οποία να επικοινωνούν με την κυρίως πόλη με ένα σύστημα παραλιακού τράμ ή κάτι τέτοιο.

Αλλά τι να λέμε τώρα, αυτά θέλουν cohones από τη μεριά των κυβερνώντων.

Τέλως πάντων, μαζί με τα άλλα, βάλτε και καμμιά φωτογραφία του Veso Mare, έχω ακούσει ότι κάτι λέει.

Επίσης, για να σας φτιάξω τη διάθεση, η παραλιακή ζώνη εκεί που πιάνουν τα πλοία προς Ιταλία είναι απείρως καλύτερη από αυτή της Αγκώνα της Ιταλίας. Επίσης, στην πόλη αυτή έχω περάσει καλά πρίν πολλά χρόνια λόγω ενός romantic interest που είχα τότε... Θυμάμαι χαρακτηριστικά το κτίριο του κεντρικού ταχυδρομίου το οποίο μου έκανε εντύπωση, εκεί που ήταν "θαμμένο".

Αλλά αυτά είναι αναμνήσεις πολλών ετών...

Συγγνώμη που μου φαίνεται αστείο λίγο αλλά η η φράση "πνιγμένα μέσα στο πράσινο" φίλε gm είναι ουτοπική , η πόλη εκτός από το δασσύλιο (για όσους δε γνωρίζουν είναι ένας λόφος με πεύκα πολύ κοντά στο κέντρο ) στερείται παντελώς χώρους πρασίνου....
Δε βλέπω να αλλάζει κάτι για την ώρα , αν δεις πως επεκτείνεται η πόλη προς το Ρίο και προς την άλλη πλευρά θα δεις ότι δεν υπάρχει ΚΑΝΕΝΑΣ σχεδιασμός η πρόβλεψη για χώρους πρασίνου.

Αλλά τι να λέμε τώρα, αυτά θέλουν cohones από τη μεριά των κυβερνώντων.

Μα τι λέμε τώρα ;
Οι περισσότεροι από αυτούς ξέρεις πολύ καλά τι κοιτάζουν...τις τσέπες τους...

Θυμάμαι χαρακτηριστικά το κτίριο του κεντρικού ταχυδρομίου το οποίο μου έκανε εντύπωση, εκεί που ήταν "θαμμένο".

Καλά είσαι από τους ελάχιστους που έχουν προσέξει αυτό το κτήριο , το οποίο είναι και το μεγαλύτερο του είδους του στην πόλη , αλλά όπως πολύ σωστά λές "χάνεται" και "πνίγεται" μέσα στις μίζερες πολυκατοικιούλες του 60 και του 70.

Εν κατακλείδει φίλε gm , ίσως έχεις δίκιο , πρέπει να ελπίζουμε ότι ποτέ δεν είναι αργά , απλά βλέπω ότι εκτός από "πασαλείμματα" δεν υπάρχει κάποιο ΟΡΑΜΑ ή κάποιο οργανωμένο σχέδιο βρε αδερφέ για το πως θα είναι και το πως πρέπει να είναι η πόλη μετά από 20,30 , 50 χρόνια.
Και είναι λογικό γιατί τα άτομα που είναι στην εξουσία δεν ενδιαφέρονται για τόσο μελλοντικές εποχές , πολλοι μποεί να μη ζουν τότε , χέστηκαν.

PS: Επειδή ανέφερες την παραλιακή ζώνη , να σου δώσω και κάποιες πληροφορίες.
Η παραλιακή ζώνη (και με δεδομένο ότι το λιμάνι είναι ακόμα μέσα στην πόλη και άρα δεσμεύει ένα μεγάλο μέρος του διαθέσιμου χώρου ) πριν 10-15 χρόνια ήταν ανύπαρκτη-άθλια.
Όμως από τότε που ο "Οργανισμός Λιμένος Πατρών" άρχισε να ασχολείται , έγιναν μικρά θαύματα!
(π.χ. όλη η μαρίνα είναι καταπληκτική , πεντακάθαρη και ωραία σχεδιασμένη , ο φάρος το ίδιο κτλπ κτλπ )
Είναι χαοτική η διαφορά νοοτροπίας του δήμου πατρέων και του λιμένος , (υπενθυμίζω ότι ο ΟΛΠΑ δε λειτουργεί με κριτήρια δημοσίου... )
Αφού πολύς κόσμος λέει , γιατί δεν αναλαμβάνει να φτιάξει την πόλη ο ΟΛΠΑ αντί για το δήμο? :)

Αν και δεν θεωρώ τα διασκεδαστήρια κάτι το ιδιαίτερο ή κάτι περισσότερο από μια μόδα, το συγκεκριμένο για κάποιο περίεργο λόγο το συμπάθησα, ίσως γιατι ήταν το πρώτο ή το δεύτερο εκτός Αθηνών, μάλλον το δεύτερο, το πρώτο πρέπει να ήταν στη Θεσ/νίκη...

Η Πάτρα πάντως το χρειαζόταν, θα γίνει πόλος έλξης για αρκετό κόσμο. Χώρια το γεγονός ότι μου αρέσει, είναι όμορφο.

Όσον αφορά τις εκκλησίες, του Αγ. Ανδρέου είναι απίστευτη. Την έχω δεί και από κοντά... :)

Οτιδήποτε αν το αφήσεις παρακμάζει φίλτατε Υδροχόε. Απλά, πιστεύω ότι ένα τέτοιο σε μιά φοιτητούπολη σαν την Πάτρα κάνει καλό στην τοπική οικονομία. Τώρα τα χάλια της Αθήνας που στο Μαρούσι κάνουμε 30 νέες αίθουσες και κύριος οίδε πόσα νέα μαγαζιά σε 3-4 νέα τέτοια εμπορικά κέντρα, είναι άλλο πράγμα, δεδομένης της οικονομικής κατάστασης των περισσοτέρων Ελλήνων και κατ' επέκταση της δυνατότητας χρηματοδότησης των τέκνων τους που θα πηγαίνουν σε αυτά τα διασκεδαστήρια.

Το συγκεκριμένο όμως πιστεύω ότι χρειαζόταν στην Πάτρα, όπως και το ανάλογο στην Κομοτινή. Εκεί, όντως τονώνεται η τοπική οικονομία.

@gm συμφωνώ μαζί σου. :)
Σε ότι αφορά το συγκεκριμένο Veso Mare , είναι καταπληκτική η κατασκευή , μιας και διατήρησε παλαιά πέτρινα παραδοσιακά κτήρια (μιας παλιάς βιομηχανίας) σε συνδυασμό με μοντέρνες κατασκευές , και σε ένα χώρο που υπήρχε βρωμιά και μπάζα έγινε κάτι όμορφο.

@ Raleigh σου φαίνεται περίεργο για τα fridays αλλά είναι λογικό μιας και πίσω από τους πολυκινηματογράφους είναι διάφορες πολυεθνικές που συνεργάζονται με συγκεκριμένες εταιρίες και μάρκες από το χώρο της εστίασης.
Α να σε ρωτήσω κάτι μιας και μένεις στο Raleigh , αν διαβάσεις το post πιο πάνω για την ΑΤMEL θα δεις ότι έχει και ένα μεγάλο ερευνητικό κέντρο στο Raleigh , μπορεί να πάει και ένας γνωστός μου εκεί.

Έτοιμο κατά 95% είναι ήδη το πρόγραμμα εκδηλώσεων της Πολιτιστικής Πάτρας για το 2006, σύμφωνα με όσα ανέφερε ο καλλιτεχνικός διευθυντής, κ. Θάνος Μικρούτσικος, στα μέλη της Εκτελεστικής Επιτροπής του `2006`, που συνεδρίασαν πριν λίγες μέρες στα γραφεία της Πολιτιστικής.

Ειδικότερα, ο κ. Μικρούτσικος μετέφερε στα μέλη της Επιτροπής 1.455 προτάσεις, όπως αναφέρει η τοπική εφημερίδα `Πελοπόννησος`, ενώ το πρόγραμμα θα περιλαμβάνει μόλις 100. Όπως τόνισε ο κ. Μικρούτσικος "οι εκδηλώσεις θα ανακοινώνονται τμηματικά στο προσεχές μέλλον, αμέσως μετά τις εξουσιοδοτήσεις για την υπογραφή των συμβάσεων τους". "Έως τον ερχόμενο Σεπτέμβριο" πρόσθεσε "θα έχουν ανακοινωθεί εκδηλώσεις που θα καλύπτουν το 80% του καλλιτεχνικού προγράμματος, ενώ το Νοέμβριο θα δημοσιοποιηθεί το πρόγραμμα στο σύνολό του".

Τέλος, ιδιαίτερη έμφαση δόθηκε, όπως ανέφερε ο καλλιτεχνικός διευθυντής του `2006` στη συμμετοχή των πατρινών δημιουργών - καλλιτεχνών.

Αυτή είναι μια μικρή νέα πλατεία μπροστά από το γήπεδο ποδοσφαίρου της Παναχαϊκής .
Ενδιαφέρουσα είναι η άποψη στο βάθος μιας από τις υψηλότερες πολυκατοικίες της πόλης ( 9 όροφοι ) μιας και από ότι γνωρίζω υπάρχει κάποιος σχετικός περιορισμός στην κατασκευή υψηλόροφων κτηρίων.

Χμ..έχω την εντύπωση ότι όσες φορές και αν έχω παρακαλέσει να είμαστε πιο προσεκτικοί στις δημοσιεύσεις μας μάλλον κάποιοι συνεχίζουν να με γράφουν στα παλιά τους τα παππούτσια. (ελπίζω τουλάχιστον να μην το κάνουν επίτηδες )

Είναι τόσο δύσκολο δηλαδή πριν κάνουμε μια δημοσίευση να ρίχνουμε μια ματιά και στις άλλες σελίδες??

ATHENS, NOVEMBER 3 - A tender has been launched for a project to build road links between the new port of Patras, the city's bypass and a nearby motorway, the public works ministry said, as reported by Greek news agency ANA. The tender for the project, worth 80 million euro, will be sumbitted on December 29, the ministry said in a statement. "This project will provide major reinforcement of infrastructure in western Greece, discernibly improve traffic in the city of Patras, and is expected to make a decisive contribution to the reduction of atmospheric pollution and noise," Public Works Minister George Souflias added. wow, i never knew an areal of patras looked worse than Athens :lol:

But patras is stunning from street level. When i was there a year ago, i remember driving through it and seeing many corner buildings. Are they common or something? It felt very 'Americanised'.

Δεν ξέρω σε ποια φωτογραφία αναφέρεσαι αλλά η αεροφωτογραφίες των ελληνικών πόλεων άνω των 100 χιλιάδων είναι σχεδόν ίδιες.
Δηλαδή μια μάζα από πολυκατοικίες.
Δε νομίζω ότι είναι χειρότερη εικόνα από ότι στη Λάρισσα , το Ηράκλειο ή τη Θεσσαλονίκη.
Αυτό σε ότι αφορά τις πολυκατοικίες.

Σε ότι αφορά τα "γωνιακά κτήρια" δεν ξέρω τι ακριβώς εννοείς , πάντως αυτό που μπορώ να σε πληροφορήσω με βεβαιότητα είναι ότι η Πάτρα έχει με μεγάλη διαφορά από οποιαδήποτε άλλη πόλη , το μεγαλύτερο αριθμό νεοκλασσικών κτηρίων , τα οποία αν δεν υπήρχαν οι πολυκατοικίες δε θα "χάνονταν" στο τσιμέντο.
Τα τελευταία 15 χρόνια γίνεται μια μεγάλη προσπάθεια να αναπαλαιωθούν τα περισσότερα και ομορφότερα από τα νεοκλασσικά αυτά κτήρια.
Εύχομαι και ελπίζω να συνεχιστεί αυτή η προσπάθεια.
Το "αμερικανοποιημένα" δεν ξέρω που ακριβώς κολλάει αλλά εγώ δε βρίσκω και πολλά κοινά με μια αμερικανική πόλη...

The Center has 59 electric beds. Every bed has a 15’’ T.V with Data exchange for PC usage and Internet connection as well as telephone and super modern Nurse-Call-system

Merhaba Kuvvaci! :)
I am glad you like it , the building is used as a passenger terminal for the people who travel to Italy .(it includes duty free shops,cafeterias,offices,travel agencies etc.)
In the last photo background you can see one of the big ships that connect Patras and all major Italian ports of adriatic. (SUPERFAST)
Generally speaking the company of the port has contributed very much to the developement of the city (by far more than the city authorities..)

thank you for information..I have one more question ; is Paras the only port to Italy or you can also use Pireas? Or is Pireas being used just for commerical tansportation? Because as I know Pireas port is one of the biggest and important ports of Medditeranean area.

yes there´s a port to italy through Igoumenitsa also, myself i´ve been traveling from Sweden to Greece with car few times so what i know the ports are Patra and igoumenitsa.
From Pireas i have no idea.

igoumenitsa is the second port which connects Greece with Italy.
Igoumenitsa is a city of ~15,000 at the region of Epirus (north west) .
It is the left edge of egnatia highway which crosses all northern greece and ends at the turkish-greek borders.
During summer time you will see at the port of igoumenitsa hundreds of german/french/netherlands cars with turkish families who travel to turkey via the egnatia.

From what i know there are no big passenger/ferry ships from Piraeus to Italy.
With the only exception of the line Piraeus-Crete (where usually the ships were previously used in the greece-italy line) , only in Patras and Igoumenitsa you will find the largest greek ferry ships.

This street which is a pedestrian zone with steps is in the heart of the city and it connects the upper town (old ) with the modern centre , it is one of the very few places that cars cant go (at least not massively).
You can find there many nice cafeterias and bars (mostly visited from the large student community).

Crowned with success was the visit of the representatives of the “European Capital of Culture, Patras 2006” to Istanbul. The representatives – the Managing Director of “Patras 2006”, Mr. Christos Roilos, and the Communication Director of the Organisation, Mr. George Panayiotopoulos – that had been invited by the Committee of Claim for the “European Capital of Culture, Istanbul 2010” arrived at the city on Tuesday the 25th of October.

On Wednesday, the representatives of “Patras 2006” met with the Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomaios and informed him about the progress of the Institution, the Artistic Program and more specifically about the themed period entitled “Religion and Art Days”.

The Managing Director of the Organisation offered to the Ecumenical Patriarch an hagiography of the First-Called Apostle, St. Andrew, by the famous painter of Patras, Mr. Bogdanopoulos.

In relation to the Committee of Claim and their suggestions, the Managing Director of “Patras 2006”, Mr. Christos Roilos, stated: “Istanbul’s nomination as “European Capital of Culture” for 2010 is another positive step toward Turkey’s integration in the European Union. “Patras 2006” is positive for Istanbul to become the European Capital of Culture in 2010. We had the opportunity to locate a plethora of common elements between the Greek and Turkish cultures and, thus, Culture could become the cornerstone for the sound progress of Friendship between Greece and Turkey. It was built shortly before the Odeion of Herodes Atticus in Athens (161 A.D.) and is smaller than the Athenian monument.
The Odeion was revealed in 1889 and until then it was completely covered with earth.
Only restricted excavation has been carried out on the site.
The monument was repaired and again dressed with marble slabs after World War II.
Every summer the Odeion is employed for music concerts and theatrical performances.

THE EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE

The “European Capitals of Culture” scheme was launched in 1985 by the Council of Ministers on the initiative of Melina Mercouri, the then Minister of Culture in Greece.
Melina’s dream was to foster deeper knowledge of the differences and similarities of European cultures among the European Union’s member-states, in order to learn to communicate using the language of Culture.

Athens was the first city to host the Institution of the European Capital of Culture, in 1985.
Ever since, each year, at least one European city is being awarded the title of the “European Capital of Culture”.
The city of Patras was designated to be the “European Capital of Culture” for the year of 2006
. The main concept of the “European Capital of Culture – Patras 2006” is to bring the citizens of Europe closer, in order to enhance cultural exchange and celebrate cultural diversity. Within the boundaries of “Patras 2006”, Europeans will be offered the opportunity to meet, communicate and swap personal experiences so as to get more acquainted with each other. By bringing together all our forces we will create a common language, that of Culture. “Patras 2006”, will be the joyful meeting point for Europe’s Reunion.

For a whole year many cultural events happen to the city which undertakes the organization .
But the most important is that for smaller cities , there is an upgrade/improvement of the infrastructures also , and this is the case for our city.
I tell you an example , there is under construction a very modern big new museum (i will post photos in the next weeks) that will be a landmark for the city.
For larger cities like Athens or Istanbul (that allready have the infrastructures) it is more the cultural program that counts (excebitions,concerts, etc).

St. Andrew anglican church

The Anglican community of Patras had this church built in 1872. It is built in the neo-gothic style with granit stones that came from Scotland by ship.

Γιώργο η πλατεία Γεωργίου είναι στο κέντρο της πόλης , νομίζω πέρασες σίγουρα αλλά δε θα το θυμάσαι...
Εδώ και 2-3 χρόνια η πλατεία έχει επεκταθεί και έχει ανακατασκευαστεί πλήρως , είναι πολύ καλύτερά τώρα.
Δυστυχώς οι πολυκατοικίες δεν μπορούν να φύγουν , το έγκλημα έγινε πολύ καιρό πριν , αλλά τα υπέροχα νεοκλασσικά που είναι διάσπαρτα στην πόλη ανακαινίζονται με πολύ γρήγορους ρυθμούς και δίνουν ένα άλλο χρώμα..

As you can see the area of the campus is one of the best in Greece , there is plenty of space , much green , and a marvellous view of the see and the bridge on one side and the mountain Panachaiko at the other side.
The campus is situated in Rio , ~6 Km from the city centre.

There is no any effect at least for now.
The bridge helps only the people who travel from mainland to peloponnese and the opposite.
And of course it is a landmark for the city and the region.

Skaros; do you know how lucky you are because you live in Patras... Your city has a possitive energy that both your capital and my city doesn't have. Αλέξανδρε απάντησα σε αυτό το ερώτημα στην προηγούμενη σελίδα , αλλά μιας και δεν το πρόσεξες ο πληθυσμός της πόλης είναι γύρω στις 200,000 ( συμπεριλαμβανομένου του Ρίου ).
Όλος ο νομός Αχαΐας έχει συνολικό πληθυσμό 350,000.
Με τον πληθυσμό αυτό η πόλη είναι τρίτη στη χώρα μετά από Αθήνα και Θεσσαλονίκη.

Η αρχή της άνω (παλαιάς ) πόλης , οδός Γερμανού και αριστερά η μικρή πλατεΐτσα του Αγ. Γεωργίου.
View of Germanou street (near the ancient odeion) . All the region from here and up is what is called "the upper city" or "the old city" .
It is full of beautiful old buildings some of them are of amazing neoclassical architecture.

Λοιπόν Γιώργο για να απαντήσω εν συντομία στο ερώτημά σου .
Δεν υπάρχει κάτι το ιδιαίτερα αξιόλογο σε ότι αφορά μεγάλες κατασκευές σύγχρονης αρχικτονικής.
Αυτά που κατά τη γνώμη μου ξεχωρίζουν είναι ο νέος τερματικός σταθμός του Λιμένος Πατρών , το νέο κτήριο του ΙΤΥ στην πανεπιστημιούπολη , ο χώρος του Veso Mare (Ster cinemas etc.) και κάποια άλλα μικρότερα κτήρια στο κέντρο της πόλης.
Φυσικά την κορυφαία θέση καταλαμβάνει το νέο αρχαιολογικό μουσείο (Patras new Archaeological Museum - under construction - finished in 6 months) το οποίο δυστυχώς είναι ακόμα υπό κατασκευή ( έστω και σε προχωρημένο στάδιο ).

Όταν ολοκληρωθεί η πρώτη φάση θα δημοσιεύσω μερικές φωτογραφίες , για την ώρα δεν αξίζει η φωτογράφηση.

Με το καλό όταν ξαναέρθεις στην περιοχή ευχαρίστως να βρεθούμε και από κοντά και να πάμε για κανένα κρασάκι σε κάποια από τις ωραίες ταβερνούλες της πόλης :)

It is on the left side of the main entrance of the city (Ethniki odos Corinthou-Patras) . (the photo is before some time , there is much progress now , the building is near completion , currently the put the electric installations and they paint it )

The museum is on the left-down corner of the pic.
The road beside is one of the 3 main entrances/exits of the city (the other 2 are the coastal road and the ring-highway road).

Με το καλό να είναι μια ωραία χρονιά για την Πάτρα και να διαφημιστεί και η χώρα μας λιγάκι . Ειδικά την περίοδο του καρναβαλιού θα είναι καλύτερα από κάθε άλλη χρονιά φέτος! ( έτσι ακούγεται τουλάχιστον.. )
Το νέο μουσείο θα είναι εκπληκτικό αν γίνει όπως φαίνεται στις αναπαραστάσεις!!
Σκάρε ελπίζω να είναι όπως τα λες και να παραδοθεί το μουσείο σύντομα...

9.567 κτίρια και 824 παραδοσιακοί οικισμοί σε μια βάση δεδομένων στο Διαδίκτυο

Μια ηλεκτρονική βάση δεδομένων αφιερωμένη στα διατηρητέα κτίρια και στους παραδοσιακούς οικισμούς πρόκειται να λειτουργήσει στο Διαδίκτυο. Με τον τρόπο αυτό ο πολίτης θα μπορεί μέσω του ηλεκτρονικού του υπολογιστή να ενημερώνεται σχετικά με τα διατηρητέα μιας περιοχής, με βάση το δήμο ή την οδό που τον ενδιαφέρει. Ο κατάλογος, τη δημιουργία του οποίου έχει αναλάβει το ΥΠΕΧΩΔΕ, έχει ήδη τεθεί σε δοκιμαστική λειτουργία και θα ανοιχτεί στο κοινό μόλις δοθεί η έγκριση της Αρχής Προστασίας Προσωπικών Δεδομένων.

Η δημιουργία μιας ενημερωμένης βάσης δεδομένων για τα διατηρητέα και τους παραδοσιακούς οικισμούς της χώρας έχει σκοπό να διευκολύνει την πρόσβαση πολιτών, αλλά και φορέων σε πληροφορίες που αφορούν τον αρχιτεκτονικό πλούτο της χώρας. «Είναι μια προσπάθεια να αναδείξουμε την ιστορική μας κληρονομιά και να ενθαρρύνουμε την ενημέρωση του πολίτη», λέει στην «Κ» ο υφυπουργός Περιβάλλοντος, κ. Σταύρος Καλογιάννης. «Η βάση θα μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί από οποιονδήποτε και είναι στην κατεύθυνση της πλήρους διαφάνειας».

Η βάση δεδομένων θα περιλαμβάνει τα 9.567 κτίρια, που το ΥΠΕΧΩΔΕ έχει χαρακτηρίσει διατηρητέα και τους 824 οικισμούς, που έχουν χαρακτηριστεί παραδοσιακοί. Αλλά ακόμα και όσα κτίρια είχαν κηρυχθεί διατηρητέα και... αποχαρακτηρίστηκαν. «Πάντως, στους τελευταίους είκοσι μήνες έχουμε κάνει περισσότερους από εκατό χαρακτηρισμούς διατηρητέων και αμφιβάλλω αν έχουμε κάνει έστω και έναν αποχαρακτηρισμό», διευκρινίζει ο κ. Καλογιάννης.

Στην Αθήνα τα περισσότερα

Σύμφωνα με τα στοιχεία της βάσης δεδομένων, το μεγαλύτερο μέρος των διατηρητέων κτιρίων της χώρας βρίσκεται στο δήμο Αθηναίων, στον οποίο υπάγονται 2.868 διατηρητέα.
Από αυτά, τα 550 βρίσκονται στην Πλάκα, τα 176 στο Θησείο, τα 141 στου Ψυρρή, 140 στο Μεταξουργείο και 50 στο Μετς.

Ανάμεσα στις πόλεις με μεγάλο αριθμό διατηρητέων κτιρίων είναι το Ναύπλιο με 352, η Πάτρα με 329 και τα Ιωάννινα με 111 διατηρητέα κτίρια.

Οσο για τις πιο πρόσφατες ανακηρύξεις διατηρητέων, από τα στοιχεία της βάσης δεδομένων προκύπτει ότι τους τελευταίους είκοσι μήνες χαρακτηρίστηκαν διατηρητέα 47 κτίρια στο Ηράκλειο Κρήτης, τα οποία παρουσιάζουν αξιόλογα αρχιτεκτονικά στοιχεία. Επίσης, ομαδικές κηρύξεις διατηρητέων έγιναν πρόσφατα στη Νέα Σμύρνη ( δώδεκα κτίρια ) , στο Μεταξουργείο ( έξι κτίρια ) , στην Κυψέλη, στον Κεραμεικό και στο Αίγιο. Συνολικά, τους τελευταίους είκοσι μήνες, χαρακτηρίστηκαν διατηρητέα περίπου 100 κτίρια σε όλη τη χώρα. Παράλληλα, εκδόθηκαν προεδρικά διατάγματα με τα οποία χαρακτηρίστηκαν παραδοσιακοί, οικισμοί στο νομό Ρεθύμνης και Φωκίδας.

Ανάμεσα στα στοιχεία της ταυτότητας ενός κτιρίου που καταγράφονται είναι οι εγκρίσεις για αναπαλαιώσεις ή προσθήκες. Σύμφωνα λοιπόν με τη βάση, τους τελευταίους είκοσι μήνες έχουν εγκριθεί από το ΥΠΕΧΩΔΕ οι υποβληθείσες αρχιτεκτονικές μελέτες για εργασίες και προσθήκες σε 70 διατηρητέα κτίρια. Σε δεύτερη φάση θα καταβληθεί προσπάθεια ώστε η βάση να εμπλουτιστεί με ιδιαίτερα ιστορικά στοιχεία για το κάθε κτίριο. «Υπάρχει η βούληση, αλλά μας προβληματίζει ο τρόπος», λέει ο κ. Καλογιάννης. « Υπάρχει πλήθος στοιχείων και χρειάζεται να μελετηθεί πώς αυτά θα γίνουν προσβάσιμα στο κοινό » .

Τι δεν περιλαμβάνει η βάση

Ωστόσο, η νέα ηλεκτρονική βάση δεδομένων του ΥΠΕΧΩΔΕ δεν θα περιλαμβάνει όλα τα διατηρητέα κτίρια και τους παραδοσιακούς οικισμούς της επικράτειας. Δεν θα περιλαμβάνει τα διατηρητέα της Μακεδονίας και της Θράκης, καθώς και των νησιών του Αιγαίου ( πλην Κρήτης ) , καθώς στις περιοχές αυτές η αρμοδιότητα έχει παραχωρηθεί στα υπουργεία Μακεδονίας - Θράκης και Αιγαίου αντίστοιχα.

Στο υπουργείο Μακεδονίας - Θράκης, πάντως, βρίσκεται σε εξέλιξη μια ανάλογη πρωτοβουλία. Ηδη ολοκληρώθηκε η πρώτη φάση της καταλογογράφησης των διατηρητέων κτιρίων και παραδοσιακών οικισμών της Βόρειας Ελλάδας, που ξεκίνησε πέρυσι. Σύμφωνα με στοιχεία που έχουν συλλεγεί, στους 16 νόμους της Μακεδονίας και της Θράκης υπάρχουν 7.500 μεμονωμένα διατηρητέα κτίρια και 1.200 παραδοσιακοί οικισμοί και τοπία ιδιαιτέρου κάλλους. Ο κατάλογος βρίσκεται στη διάθεση κάθε πολίτη ή φορέα, που επιθυμεί αντίγραφο. Σε δεύτερη φάση, θα εμπλουτιστεί και με στοιχεία για τα ιδιαίτερα ιστορικά και αρχιτεκτονικά χαρακτηριστικά των κτιρίων και των οικισμών.

Πρέπει επίσης να σημειωθεί ότι η βάση δεδομένων του ΥΠΕΧΩΔΕ για τα διατηρητέα δεν θα περιλαμβάνει τα κτίρια που το υπουργείο Πολιτισμού έχει χαρακτηρίσει μνημεία. Ο χαρακτηρισμός ενός κτιρίου ως μνημείο από το υπουργείο Πολιτισμού είναι ανεξάρτητος από τον χαρακτηρισμό ενός κτιρίου ως διατηρητέο. Κριτήριο για το ΥΠΠΟ είναι η ιστορική-πολιτιστική σημασία του κτιρίου, λόγω της χρήσης ή των ενοίκων του.

Απορίας άξιον είναι γιατί, ΥΠΕΧΩΔΕ, υπουργείο Πολιτισμού, Μακεδονίας - Θράκης και Αιγαίου δεν συνεργάστηκαν για τη δημιουργία μιας κοινής τράπεζας δεδομένων. Η γνωστή έλλειψη συνεργασίας μεταξύ υπηρεσιών ακόμη και για απλά πρακτικά ζητήματα χαρακτηρίζει και την περίπτωση των διατηρητέων.

Σύμφωνα με το παραπάνω άρθρο η Πάτρα είναι τρίτη στην Ελλάδα . ( Αν και προσωπικά πιστεύω ότι ο αριθμός είναι μεγαλύτερος ) :)
Όπως είχα ξαναπεί σε προηγούμενες δημοσιεύσεις υπάρχουν πάρα πολλά ακόμα κτήρια τα οποία δεν έχουν χαρακτηριστεί διατηρητέα και κινδυνεύουν με καταστροφή/κατάρευση .
Πολλά από αυτά τα κτήρια είναι πανέμορφα , πιστεύω ότι κάποια στιγμή θα αρχίσω να βγάζω φωτογραφίες από αναπαλαιωμένα νεοκλασσικά για να τις θαυμάσουν όλοι οι φίλοι της αγοράς!

Η ΕΚΚΛΗΣΙΑ ΤΟΥ ΠΑΝΤΟΚΡΑΤΟΡΑ, με χάλκινους τρούλους. Ο αρχικός ναός - χτισμένος γύρω στο 900, στη θέση αρχαίου ναού του Ολύμπιου Δία - μετατράπηκε επί Tουρκοκρατίας σε τζαμί. Το 1828 χρησιμοποιήθηκε ως νοσοκομείο για τους στρατιώτες του Μεζόν. Ο σημερινός ναός - υπήρξε ο πρώτος καθεδρικός ναός της Πάτρας - χτίστηκε μετά την Απελευθέρωση.

This is considered the oldest church of the city , though there is almost nothing left from the early periods. It was built in 900 A.D. on the place of an ancient temple of Zeus.During the ottoman era it was a mosque.
The church that we see today was actually built just after 1828.

it doesn't look like Pantokrator church... BTW, it is not camii anymore, it is under construction, and I don't know as what it will be used...

BTW, I don't like new Orthodox Chruches in Greece as I don't like new Mosques in Turkey. They are always bad copies of the past with wrong material. However this one looks better than others. Reminds me of Agia Triada of Kadkıköy and another one I forgot the name in Dolapdere dsitrict where mostly the native Hellens were living at before 1955.

@Kuvvaci you are right , it does not remind the Pantokrator church but anyway i think the original design was similar , this is a quite new church built in the middle of 19th century. Though there are some similarities , like the Lead covered cupolas (domes) something that you find in both churches (not very common in other byantine churches)
Also notice that Pantokrator church in Istanbul is not a simple church but a complex of more churches (if i remember well it is 3 churches in one)

I understand what you mean about new churches , there are many cases of newly ciment-made churches who are not at all nice even if they try to keep the byzantine style.

PS: Kuvvaci yes it is not a mosque in our days , it is restored and it looks allready great !!! I think it is one of the best monuments in Istanbul..

@Poliochni χαίρομαι για την αισιοδοξία σου , γενικά είναι λίγο κοροϊδία η υπόθεση αλλά τι να κάνουμε έστω και έτσι ας χαρούμε αυτά τα λίγα και ας ελπίσουμε ότι θα γίνουν ενδιαφέρουσες εκδηλώσεις.

Εγώ δεν ασχολούμαι καθόλου με το τι λένε η δε λένε τα κανάλια , κάποιοι θα τα παρουσιάσουν χάλια και κάποιοι καλύτερα , το παρήγορο είναι ότι θα γίνει έστω και μια μικρή διαφήμηση της χώρας και της πόλης.
Κανένας σοβαρός πολίτης δεν περίμενε κάτι καλύτερο , δεν αλλάζουν αυτά τα πράγματα στην Ελλάδα.
Για να καταλάβεις τι εννοώ θα σου πω μόνο ότι το δημαρχείο είναι δίπλα στη δημοτική βιβλιοθήκη αλλά ουδέποτε έχει περάσει για βόλτα κανένας δήμαρχος να δει σε τι χάλια βρίσκεται. Είναι η νοοτροπία τέτοια , αραλίκι,αρπαχτή,φράπα , δηλώσεις,γλυψίματα σε ανώτερους κτλπ. Τελος πάντων ας μην επεκταθώ.

Το Παλαιό Πτωχοκομείο

Παλαιό Πτωχοκομείο κτίστηκε το 1870 την εποχή ανάπτυξης της Πάτρας μαζί με άλλα σημαντικά κτίρια αυτής της πόλης, όπως το Δημοτικό Θέατρο «Απόλλων» , το Βρεφοκομείο, σχολεία, ναοί, το εργοστάσιο αεριόφωτος κ.α. Το συγκεκριμένο κτίσμα δηλωτικό της σημαντικής οικονομικοκοινωνικής δομής της Πάτρας εκείνη την περίοδο, κτίστηκε με έξοδα της υπάρχουσας τότε κοινότητας των αστών που χρηματοδότησε πολλά από τα κοινωφελή ιδρύματα της πόλης π.χ Μαραγκοπούλειο Ορφανοτροφείο Αρρένων, Τριάντειο Ορφανοτροφείο Θηλέων, το Θέατρο «Απόλλων» κ.α
Το σημαντικό για το επίπεδο πολιτισμού της Πάτρας του 19ου αιώνα είναι πως παρότι κατασκευάστηκε για την συγκεκριμένη χρήση η αρχιτεκτονική του δεν υπολείπετο σε τίποτα από τα μεγάλα ιδιόκτητα νεοκλασικά αρχοντικά της Πάτρας.

Greek city basks in 2006 Cultural Capital glory

PATRAS, Greece: Without the customary display of fireworks and fanfare, the European Capital of Culture for 2006 was launched in the western port city of Patras on Saturday, with a concert by the Patras Orchestra and United States vibraphone player Gary Burton, as well as an exhibition on Leonardo Da Vinci.

Known as one of the world's leading carnival cities after Rio de Janeiro and Venice, Patras is set to reach fever pitch in the coming weeks when residents prepare for Greece's largest carnival celebrations.

This year's carnival will be accompanied by a series of European cultural events such as the Cico de Madrugada, China National Acrobatic Circus and Vienna Vegetable Orchestra.

Celebrations for the carnival season are the first of six different themes of events for Patras 2006, followed by Poetry and Music, New Scene of Ancient Drama, Travelling, Religion and Art and Children's Art.

"What we hope to achieve is not just to stage wonderful events, but to create, through the institution of the Capital of Culture, institutions that will, in the coming years, become a permanent feature on Europe's cultural map," said artistic director Alexis Alatsis.

Plagued by planning delays and last-minute resignations just weeks before its official launch, Patras 2006 organizers are determined to plough through their official programme, including 152 events at a cost of 17.5 million euros (US$21.2 million), with as few hiccups as possible.

"Things were done very quickly. What we have organized may not have been exactly as we have wished but we are 95 per cent ready," Patras 2006 European Cultural Capital Director Christos Roilos told reporters.

Even though only four of 52 venues are ready to host the array of events, organizers remain optimistic that alternative solutions will be found in time.

A string of projects which began in 2005, including a 3,000-seat open air theatre, a separate enclosed theatre and a multimedia space in the warehouses of an old agricultural co-operative and old hospital were not ready in time for the opening but will be completed by the end of 2006.

Adding to the organizers' woes, the festival's artistic director, Thanos Mikroutsikos, walked off the job a week before its launch, citing planning delays and funding shortages.

Conceived as a means of increasing the attractiveness of European cities, the rotating Cultural Capital was launched in 1985 by the Council of European Union Ministers following a proposal by then Greek Culture Minister Melina Mercouri.

Former European culture capitals have included Cork, Ireland in 2005, the French and Italian cities of Lille and Genoa in 2004, Krakow, Poland in 2000, and the Greek northern port city of Thessaloniki in 1997.

Left with a huge task, Patras' new artistic chief Alexis Alatsis said he hoped that everything will proceed as planned with as few technical glitches as possible.

"The artistic programme represents a concern for the first few months, but we are looking at enriching it," the 40-year-old Alatsis said. "Whatever problems we will have will be technical but we are confident of overcoming them."

Among the artistic events for this year's cultural capital are an interesting look at Patras clips from the past with an exhibition entitled "A labyrinth of images" by Vassilis Cosmopoulos, a musical theatre presentation by the Gogmagogs, a concert by the Orchestra of Lithuania and Cappella Glinka of Saint Petersburg.

Local artists such as Haria Pressas will host an exhibition of photos and paintings while puppet theatres from Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic and Russia will take part in the first-ever large-scale Children's Art Festival in December.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to enjoy a series of exhibitions throughout 2006, starting with "Leonardo Da Vinci Inventor and Scientist" and an exhibition on the world's cartoonists.

The Patras Carnival

The Patras Carnival is the biggest event of its kind in the country. It is also in certain respects one of the biggest carnivals in the world and one of the most important in Europe.

It has been held for more than 160 years and its origins date to the start of the 19th century, when the first shrovetide ball is said to have been hheld at the house of a merchant called Meretis.(1829)
It was in the 1860s that a formal Patras Carnival as such was held. Undoubtedly one of the reasons for this was the union of the Ionian Islands with Greece, bringing in Italian and and Ionian traditions, though the event has also absorbed influences from many places in the Mediterranean and elsewhere. But Greek elements and local culture have always predominated.

The Carnival has gone through many shapes and stages. The start of its career in recent times has been taken to be the year 1966. This was when the Treasure Hunt was introduced – still a very popular event attracting some 50,000 young participants from Patras. The hunt, essentially a simple navigational game, has become, thanks to the inhabitants’ inventiveness, the core carnival lasting ten days or more, with its famous Parade.

The carnival events, starting on January every year (this year 4 february) and lasting until Ash Monday, are either programmed by the Municipal Committee of Carnival Events, or planned by the citizens and supported by the spontaneity, the inspiration and the creative ability of the inhabitants of Patras themselves. The carnival is enriched yearly with new events with the last carnival Sunday Parade continuing to be the dominant attraction. However, the Carnival events are not only the Parade but also the continuous dancing of thousands participants who disguised and organised in groups flood the city streets dancing in frenetic rhythms.

The ‘Bourboulia’ famous ball is organised by the Municipality at Patras Municipal theatre APOLLON (an architectural creation of Ziller in 1872, a mini-reproduction of the Milan Scala Opera House). At ‘Bourboulia’ women wearing black dominoes and masks dominate and control men who participate in their everyday clothes. Entrance for dominoes is free while men have to pay.

The carnival events end on the night of Carnival Sunday with the burning of the Carnival Man. Ash Monday, with a kite-flying competition, concludes the month and a half long fun, although in some places the dancing goes on.

An spectacular ceremony took place during the evening in K.George Square in the center of the city , hundreds of fireworks , events, loud music and a magical warm night!! (the weather last night was perfect 16C , and a sea smell all over the city ! )

Ο νέος λιμήν όπως φαίνεται από αεροφωτογραφία πρίν από 2-3 μήνες.
Το έργο δυστυχώς είναι ακόμα υπό κατασκευή ύστερα από 10 σχεδόν χρόνια... ( το γιατί το ξέρουμε λίγο πολύ , αχρηστεία των εκάστοτε υπουργών δημοσίων έργων )
Είναι έργο τεράστιας σημασίας για την πόλη μιας και θα αποσυμφορήσει το υπάρχον λιμάνι αλλά και θα συμβάλλει στην κυκλοφοριακή αποσυμφόρηση του κέντρου.
Προβλέπεται κατασκευή νέοιυ μεγάλου τερματικού σταθμού αλλά και η σύνδεση του λιμανιού με την ευρεία παράκαμψη πατρών μέσω συνδετήριας οδού ( γνωστή και σαν παραγλάυκεια αρτηρία ) μήκους περίπου 4 χιλιομέτρων.

The bridge has a length of 2252 m (2882 m including the access bridges); as it consists entirely of five cable-stayed spans and four columns, it is the world's longest cable-stayed suspended deck. Its width is 28 meters -- it has two vehicle lanes per direction, an emergency lane and a pedestrian sidewalk.

Giorgo i go 2-3 times every week for running on the bridge , it is a very nice feeling and you breath fresh air from the sea :)
But from my experience very few people go for a walk on the deck , most prefer to have a drink in a bar in Rio beach and just enjoy the view...

(ANSAmed) - ATHENS, MARCH 16 - An 80 million euro agreement for road construction in the region of Patra, Pelopponnese, was signed by the Greek Environment, Town Planning and Public Works Ministry and the 'Michaniki S.A.' company. Environment Minister George Souflias said that the road construction project, to begin immediately, "is the third, very important, major project which we are starting in Achaia prefecture," noting that "the citizens of Achaia have been waiting for this for ten years." The total budget of the three projects (road network, water supply and the covering up of the Diakoniari Torrent) amounts to 270 million euro, the minister added, Greek news agency ANA-MPA reports. Souflias emphasised that the three projects "consitute the biggest public works construction programme which the Environment, Town Planning and Public Works Ministry has ever undretaken in Achaia prefecture."

A new era for transport in northern Greece begins as of coming Monday, when the regular flights of seaplanes will be performed and connect Patras with Corfu.
On Wednesday, in a special flight made from Piraeus to Patras, the Minister of Mercantile Marine Manolis Kefalogiannis was among the passengers.
The Minister arrived in the capital of Achaia in order to inaugurate the base of the seaplanes. Mr Kefalogiannis described this day as a day of celebration and announced that routes from Piraeus to the Cyclades Islands and northern Aegean shortly, while in the future Patras will be connected with the Aegean Islands, Athens and Thessaloniki by air.

The base of the seaplanes is going to be the boat marina. The cost for a flight between Patras and Corfu is 80 euro and the flight lasts 40 minutes.
(a trip with a ship takes 6-7 hours).

These pics are incredible and make me wish I was back in Greece. My late mother was from Corinthos and I was in Patras in 1998 to catch the ferry to Delphi. How I miss Greece!! I was there last in the fall of 2001 and wish I was still there despite living in a very beautiful part of Washington state. :runaway:

I am sorry for the bad quality of the photos ( mobile phone ) , i was passing in front of the museum area and i took the photos when i was driving.
Unfortunatelly the delivery of the museum was postponed again because of delays...
Lets hope that at least during the summer period they will have completed the largest part of it.

Europe's lively new Capital of Culture has an unpretenious charm that is hard to resist, finds Louise Roddon.

For most tourists, Patras is just a big noisy port on the northern coast of the Peloponnese - a hop-off point for ferry trips to the islands and Italy. Few linger. Not even Byron; he first set foot in Greece here, then promptly left.
But there is a reason to stay. Patras, Greece's third largest city, is European Capital of Culture for 2006. And as Christos Roilos, co-ordinator of a year-long programme of music, exhibitions and street theatre, explained: "We have 1.5 million visitors passing through each year, so our strategy is to use this event to help us become somewhere people will want to remain."

It has to be said that although nearly €135 million (£93 million) have been earmarked for regeneration, the work is significantly behind schedule. My walks during a visit earlier this year were punctuated by the sound of pneumatic drills and the sight of potholes and cordoned-off pavements. Yet this noisy mayhem didn't entirely mask what is an authentic and vigorous city, and one with some surprises.

First stop: an exhibition of old film clips. Shots of local houses devastated during the Second World War and streets swamped by the floods of 1997 painted a moving portrait of a city accustomed to reinvention. And there are echoes of this renewal wherever you go.

Escaping the noisy port area, I climbed the hundred steps from pedestrianised Aghios Nikolaos up to the old town. Here, the Byzantine ruins of the old Kastro preside over a delightful district of calm, narrow lanes. Traffic noise gives way to bird-filled orange groves, and office blocks to country-style villas. A neighbouring odeon, built in AD 150 and seating 2,300 spectators, still stages classical plays and rock concerts. The mountains to the north are a backdrop to the blue expanse of the Gulf of Corinth, with distant silhouettes of Cephalonia and Ithaca.

At St Andrew's church, you can see remnants of the diagonal crucifix on which this apostle of Greece and Asia Minor was martyred. His skull is preserved in an ornate reliquary.

Nearby is a café-studded square, Plateia Psila Alonia. Shady umbrella pines, cool bars and tremendous views have made it the trendiest spot in Patras. Yet even here the past is present. There's a sizeable chunk of old Roman wall beneath its southern end, and in the 19th century, when the currant industry brought prosperity, fruit were dried and sorted here.

The homes of the European currant merchants can be seen throughout Patras - grand, pastel-painted neo-classical villas with ornate balconies, many of which are being renovated as part of this year's cultural programme. But one merchant's involvement with currant affairs led to something more lasting than dried fruit.

Spotting the potential in the rolling hills of Achaia, Gustav Clauss, a Bavarian, set up Greece's first commercial bottling plant. His winery, Achaia Clauss, is now famed for Demestica, and Mavro Daphne, the second oldest sweet wine after port.

The winery's mementoes include handwritten orders from Bismarck and Liszt, and a note from Alistair MacLean thanking the producers for naming one of their wines "Navarone".

Back in the city, Patras's huge student population flocks to innumerable bars, from the sugar-pink retro-chic of Si Doux on Patreous Street to the stylish cafes flanking Aghios Nikolaos. There is not a Starbucks in sight. From the terrace of Palaion bar, I watched a tipsy parade of pre-carnival revellers decked out in tricorn hats, velvet cloaks and fancy ball-gowns, swaying in time to the strains of a bouzouki, before stopping at a nearby bar to refuel.

In contrast, Ichthyoskala, a no-frills fish shack located by the port, had me settling into the real Greece. Gnarled fishermen eyed me with curiosity. The waitress looked baffled. Not a tourist in sight. Yet I soon felt perfectly at home. Having chosen my fish from a wooden crate, I enjoyed a delicious supper of grilled sole, halva smeared with honey and a complimentary carafe of Mavro Daphne.

If you like Greece to be gritty rather than pretty, Patras takes some beating.

A few days ago, actor Jean Luis Tritnignan recited poems by Guillaume Apollinaire in this theatre, as part of the events for the cultural capital of Europe...

Just a factoid...

I only doubt that the audience could understant the sophisticated language used in Apollinaire's poetry, let alone understanding French at all... :lol:

Nevertheless, Patra has a good cultural tradition. They deserve a concert hall too... :)

You all know by now from my posts that Rio and the villages around is the eastern summer place of Patras , but exactly on the other side , the western one , there is also another very well known to the locals place , known as Vrachneika.
There you can find many many ouzomezedopwleia , good fish restaurants/taverns , bars and cafeterias etc.

Το αρμυρίκι είναι ίσως το πιο ελληνικό φυτό ( θάμνος ή δέντρο ) που βρίσκουμε κοντά σε παραλίες ακόμα και σχεδόν δίπλα στα σημεία που σκάει το κύμα...
Είναι πολύ συνηθισμένο επίσης σε όλη τη μεσογειακή ζώνη και τη μέση ανατολή.

Ευτυχώς όμως αυτό το τόσο ωραίο μεσογειακό και ελληνικό δέντρο το βρίσκουμε ακόμα στις περισσότερες ελληνικές παραλίες...

Aλμυρίκι [Τamarix. tetrandra Pallas ] Ταμάριξ η τετραστήμονη --κοινώς, μυρικιά.]

Η Μυρίκη των αρχαίων ( σήμερα αρμυρίκι ) ήταν αφιερωμένη στην Αφροδίτη, σύμβολο της ομορφιάς και της νεότητας.
Κατά μια άλλη παράδοση το αρμυρίκι είναι μεταμόρφωση της Μυρίκης, θυγατέρας του Κύπριου βασιλιά Κινύρα και αδελφής του Άδωνι. Ο Οδυσσέας στην Ιλιάδα του Ομήρου κρεμά σε ένα δέντρο μυρίκης την πανοπλία του Δόλωνα, κατασκόπου των Τρώων , που κτυπήθηκε θανάσιμα από τον Διομήδη. Σήμερα είναι γνωστά ως αρμυρίκια , αρμυρίχια, μερεχλιές, μυρίγκες, μέρικοι και μεριτές ( Κύπρος ) . Φυτά ιδιαίτερα ανθεκτικά και στην αλατότητα του εδάφους.

Armyrikia ( of the species Tamarix - also known as salt cedars or tamarisks) are very common trees and shrubs in Greece...They grow especially in soils with high salt concentration so we see them everywhere in places near the sea like beaches in the islands , peloponnese and mainland greece...

@Kuvvaci we have talked about that again , our region is almost uknown abroad (except the travellers who come to greece from Italy by ship and they dont even stay for an hour.) I try through the photos to show a part of it to all the forumers greeks or visitors .
The region faces many problems. But still there are beautiful places , beautiful mediterranean nature and (even with slow pace) improvements in infrastructures.
Patra is clearly the third city in Greece and the capital of Peloponnese. The perfecture of Achaia also is the third in population after Attica and Thessaloniki regions.

Kων. έχεις δίκιο παραξενη κατασκευή ( εξ ολοκλήρου μεταλλική ) αλλά είναι αρκετά καλό μέσα. Μακάρι να το κρατήσουν και μετά και να μη το διαλύσουν...
Μαζί με το καινούριο θέατρο-αμφιθέατρο του πανεπιστημίου 1,000 θέσεων ( συνεδριακό κέντρο ) και το θερινό αρχαίο θέατρο , κάτι γίνεται σιγά σιγά...

Να και μια περίεργη φωτο από την πυκνοδομημένη περιοχή του Αγ. Διονυσίου όπου φαίνεται και η καπνοδόχος του τεράστιου πλοίου της ΑΝΕΚ ανάμεσα από τις πολυκατοικίες...

Για το θέατρο σαν κατασκευή δεν μπορώ να πω πολλά γιατί δεν έχω ολοκληρωμένη εικόνα, τα χρώματα πάντως μου αρέσουν.

Η εικόνα με το πλοίο της άλλοτε κραταιάς ΑΝΕΚ είναι πολλή ωραία :okay: Άσε που μόλις θυμήθηκα :doh: ότι πριν καιρό σχεδίαζα να δημιουργήσω ένα μεγάλο θέμα με όλες τις ελληνικές ακτοπλοϊκές εταιρίες. Κάποια στιγμή πρέπει να το κάνω.

Στην κεντρική οδό Ηφαίστου, ανάμεσα στις κατοικίες, αποκαλύπτεται σιγά σιγά το ρωμαϊκό στάδιο

Ένα ρωμαϊκό στάδιο ( αρένα ) , άγνωστο από τις αρχαίες πηγές, φέρνει σιγά σιγά στο φως η αρχαιολογική σκαπάνη στην καρδιά της Πάτρας. Στην κεντρική οδό Ηφαίστου, πλάι στα σύγχρονα κτίρια της πόλης, οι αρχαιολόγοι βρέθηκαν προ εκπλήξεως όταν άρχισαν να ανακαλύπτουν τα πρώτα ευρήματα καθώς το στάδιο δεν αναφέρεται στις αρχαίες πηγές και, όπως όλα δείχνουν, ήταν προσφορά του αυτοκράτορα Δομιτιανού στην πόλη με την ευκαιρία της συμπλήρωσης 100 χρόνων από την ίδρυση ρωμαϊκής αποικίας στην περιοχή, δηλαδή περί το 86 μ.Χ.

Στο ρωμαϊκό στάδιο φιλοξενήθηκαν τα «Καισάρεια», αθλητικές εκδηλώσεις προς τιμήν του Καίσαρα, όπως μαρτυρούν οι σχετικές επιγραφές που εντοπίστηκαν και επιβεβαιώνουν την ταυτότητα του χώρου. Με το πέρασμα των αιώνων όλα τα λίθινα τμήματά του αφαιρέθηκαν και χρησιμοποιήθηκαν ως οικοδομικό υλικό.

Το στάδιο, το οποίο χρησιμοποιήθηκε και ως αμφιθέατρο, όπως επισημαίνει ο προϊστάμενος της ΣΤ ' Εφορείας Προϊστορικών και Κλασικών Αρχαιοτήτων Μιχάλης Πετρόπουλος, θα δώσει νέα στοιχεία για τη στρατηγική θέση της Πάτρας, την περίοδο της αποκορύφωσης της ακμής της, δηλαδή μετά το 14 π.Χ. « Δυστυχώς , λόγω της διαχρονικά επίκαιρης θέσης της, είχε την ατυχία να κτιστεί επάνω στα ερείπια της αρχαίας η σύγχρονη πόλη της Πάτρας » , επισημαίνει ο κ. Πετρόπουλος. Και προσθέτει πως μετά την ολοκλήρωση των ανασκαφών, στόχος της Αρχαιολογικής Υπηρεσίας είναι η ανάδειξη και η ενοποίηση του σταδίου με το γειτονικό ρωμαϊκό ωδείο.

Το θέατρο μου άρεσε κι' εμένα και μου κάνει εντύπωση το ότι το εξωτερικό του δεν προϊδεαζει για το μέγεθος του. Βέβαια, αν κανουν και έργα διαμόρφωσης του περιβάλλοντος χώρου θα είναι καλύτερα.

CTI operates under the Private Sector legislation and is administered by a Board of Directors. It is closely affiliated to academia and in particular to the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department of the University of Patras.

Today it constitutes an integrated research environment for the design and development of products and solutions. In continuous interaction with the academic community, the national and European Informatics Industry, the internatioal scientific community and the public sector, CTI has evolved to an internationally renowned research institution in Computer Science and Technology.

During the last years, CTI has been constantly expanding and strengthening its internal structure and operation: it has established its office in Athens, initialised the construction of a proprietary building in Patras, organised its scientific personnel in research units, established a Marketing Department, a Computer Network Services Lab and a Management Projects Department. CTI currently employs over 100 persons: researchers (including faculty members of the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department of the University of Patras), technicians (computer engineers) , administrative employees and postgraduate students.

Ειδικότερα μου αρέσει η φωτογραφία από τις σκαλες της Αγίου Νικολάου που οδηγούν στο κάστρο και την άνω πόλη...
Αν έρθεις ποτέ καλοκαίρι , μόλις ανέβεις τα σκαλοπάτια (περίπου 200) θα δεις πολλά ωραία ταβερνάκια με τραπεζάκια έξω κάτω από τις μουριές και με θέα το φωτισμένο κάστρο...

“Greeks, I love you! I kiss you all!” said in fluent Greek Roberto Benigni at the beginning of his performance in Patras, the European Capital of Culture for 2006.
The world’s favorite comedian offered the audience a unique performance of the 26th canto of “Inferno” from Dante Allighieri’s “La Divina Commedia” on June 6 at the Patras Roman Odeon, before the Greek Minister of Culture, Mr. George Voulgarakis, the Mayor of Patras, Mr. Andreas Caravolas, the Organization’s representatives and another two thousand people, watching breathlessly the exceptional performance.

Full of life, the great Italian comedian, offered the audience a vivid introduction of the play, clarifying that the 26th canto of “Inferno” from “La Divina Commedia” is a mysterious and, simultaneously, popular text.

“It is my very first time in Greece”, said Roberto Benigni, “My heart longed coming to Greece and, specifically, in Patras, the European Capital of Culture. And I did so, as I always listen to my heart. I am sorry that I cannot perform Dante’s masterpiece in Greek, but the text’s lyricism and Kostas Sfikas’ translation are enough to understand its meaning. Greeks, I love you!”

The Artistic Director of “Patras 2006”, Mr. Alexis Alatsis, in accordance with Roberto Benigni’s will, briefly presented the performance’s structure: the improvisational part of the analysis/commentary of each line of the 26th canto of “Inferno” corresponded to the translation featured on the king-size video walls placed on both left and right sides of the stage.

Toward the end of the performance, Roberto Benigni delivered the whole canto without the aid of translation, for the audience to enjoy Dante’s lyricism.

Benigni’s superb performance fascinated the audience who applauded long enough for the artist to return three times on stage, proving the power of culture to defy language restrictions.

Μου αρέσει η τρίτη φωτογραφία δεν την έχω ξαναδεί , τις άλλες τις είχα υπόψιν μου αλλά καλά έκανες και τις έβαλες τώρα.
Στην πρώτη μεγάλη φωτογραφία φαίνεται στα αριστερά κάτω και ένα μικρό τμήμα από την υπό κατασκευή μικρή περιμετρική ( νέος δρόμος που θα ανακουφίσει το κέντρο από την κίνηση )

A unique performance by Maxim Shostakovich will have the opportunity to enjoy the audience that will be at the Patras Roman Odeon at 21:30 on June 15.
The performance of the great Russian maestro is included in the artistic program of the “European Capital of Culture – Patras 2006”.

Maxim Shostakovich, the son of the distinguished musician Dmitri Shostakovich, claimed to be very happy to perform in Patras, for such a significant Institution as the European Capital of Culture, whilst he was pleasantly surprised by the performance of the Orchestra of Patras.

The concert is also a tribute to Maxim’s father, Dmitri Shostakovich (1906 – 1975), to celebrate 100 years from his birth.

Maxim Shostakovich answered to all journalists’ questions, regarding:

PATRAS AND TRAVELLING
“I am travelling a lot and, in a way, I am collecting cities and countries, evaluating their pros and cons, such as their kitchen. I am very happy that I am in Patras for a thousand reasons and one more: the kitchen here is great!”

RUSSIAN MUSIC CULTURE AND ITS EVOLUTION

“It is a fact that Russia has a rich cultural background. It is clear that its cultural tradition constitutes the foundation for further development. Maxim Shostakovich
Son of the noted composer Dmitri Shostakovich, Maxim Shostakovich was born in 1938 in Leningrad. He began his musical studies at the Central Music School in piano with Elena Khoven and subsequently attended the Moscow Conservatory where he continued his piano studies under Yakov Flier, and studied conducting with Gennady Rozhdestvensky and Igor Markevich.

After graduation, Mr. Shostakovich became Assistant Conductor of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra and Conductor of the Government Academic Symphony of the USSR. In 1971, he was named Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the USSR Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, with which he toured throughout the world, including Western Europe, Japan and three tours to the United States, and premiered many important works, including his father's Symphony No. 15. In 1979 he conducted the Shostakovich opera THE NOSE, based on the Gogol short story, at the English National Opera.

In April 1981, Mr. Shostakovich and his son Dmitri requested and were granted asylum by the United States while they were on tour in Nuremberg, West Germany. Several days later, they arrived in the United States where they now make their home.

Shortly after his arrival in the United States, Mr. Shostakovich conducted the National Symphony Orchestra on the steps of the U.S. Capitol before an audience of 60,000. He returned to the National Symphony in the fall of 1981 to conduct a special tribute concert in honor of the 75th anniversary of his father's birth.

Since departing from the Soviet Union, Mr. Shostakovich has conducted major orchestras throughout the world. He has appeared with the Hong Kong Philharmonic as Principal Guest Conductor, the Seoul Philharmonic, Yomiuri Nippon Orchestra, and the Symphony Orchestras of New Zealand and Jerusalem. In the fall of 1989 he made appearances in Japan, conducting the Kyoto Symphony, Osaka Philharmonic, Sapporo Symphony Orchestra and the New Japan Philharmonic. He has conducted extensively in Europe: in Germany with the Bayerischer Rundfunk, Beethovenhalle Orchestra of Bonn, Dortmund Philharmonic, and the Hamburg Staatsoper for the Yuri Ljubimov production of his father's opera LADY MACBETH OF MTSENSK; in England with the London Symphony, where he conducted a concert to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the birth of his father, City of Birmingham Symphony and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic; in Sweden with the symphony orchestras of Malmoe, Helsingborg and Norrkoeping, as well as the Goeteborg Symphony for a production of LADY MACBETH OF MTSENSK at the Royal Opera in Stockholm; in Norway with the Trondheim Symphony; in Switzerland with the Tonhalle Orchestra of Zurich; in Italy with the Orchestra della Toscana in Florence and the Santa Cecilia Academy in Rome; and in France with the Orchestre du Lille and Orchestre du Capitole in Toulouse.

In North America, he has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, National Symphony, New World Symphony and the orchestras of Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Columbus, Atlanta, Minnesota, Buffalo, Syracuse, Oakland, Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary, San Diego, Indianapolis, Dallas, Houston, Denver, San Antonio and Toledo, and with the New York Chamber Symphony. He was appointed Music Director of the New Orleans Symphony in the fall of 1986.

Mr. Shostakovich made his North American opera debut conducting Shostakovich's LADY MACBETH OF MTSENSK at the Juilliard School and in January 1984 he led Gian Carlo Menotti's production of EUGENE ONEGIN at the Washington Opera to critical acclaim.

His 1990-91 season schedule includes appearances with the Brooklyn Philharmonic, London Symphony, Puerto Rico Symphony, Gόrzenich Orchestra of Cologne, Dόsseldorf Symphony, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Interlochen Festival, Finnish Radio Symphony at the Helsinki Festival and the Teatro Municipal of Santiago, Chile.

Mr. Shostakovich has recorded the Shostakovich Cello Concerti Nos. 1 & 2 with Heinrich Schiff and the Bayerischer Rundfunk of Munich for Philips Records and the Shostakovich Piano Concerti Nos. 1 & 2 with his son Dmitri, pianist, for Chandos Records. For Teldec Records he has recently recorded the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 and the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2 with Alexei Sultanov and the London Symphony Orchestra. In July 1990 he recorded Shostakovich songs with Dimiter Petkov and the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Berlin for Koch/Schwann. In the spring of 1991 he will record the Barber and Shostakovich Violin Concerti with Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and the London Symphony for Angel. He is currently in the process of recording the complete orchestral works of Dmitri Shostakovich with The London Symphony Orchestra for Collins Classics.
