Tekir January 3rd, 2005, 04:34 AM One magnificent thing on your islands is everything is untouched, that is strange. todays Athens is a proof of how Greeks raid cities, but islands are hard to settle, because of that, you do not have overpopulation and concrete invading your islands.
I would like to buy a house in Greek islands such as Lesbos , Corfu, etc... But I do not like lands. :D Boats are best. ;) Everywhere in the sea is your home, can there be more beautiful thing? :D
Kuvvaci January 3rd, 2005, 04:43 AM Where is this island in Greece? Could you show it to me with a map?
Tekir January 3rd, 2005, 04:46 AM Islands have advantages. Our Greko neighbors are lucky, their villages are not invaded and overpopulated like ours. :D
But there is a strict disadvantage, usually islands lack water, that' s why most have no forests. No water, no forest, it is basically this...
SkylineTurbo January 3rd, 2005, 04:57 AM If I had Greek citizenship I would live there for the rest of my life.
Christos7 January 3rd, 2005, 05:33 AM Kuvacci,

Part of the "Cyclades".
A closer look:

Tekir, the western islands (Ionian) are very green.... The Aegean has a handful also, Andros is a gem...
As far as Athens, big influxes of Greek refugees (by the millions) are the cause of the unplanned, concrete mess of apartment buildings in Athens.... unfortunatelty. It grew to fast to quick. Other Greek cities are for the most part well planned and not overcrowded. (Thessaloniki is the only other city above 1 million)
Tekir January 3rd, 2005, 06:20 AM I know Lesbos is Green. but from the pictures it seems that you preserve the villages. I mean you do not let people built new houses with a style that has nothing to do with the village. We could not even protect Bozcaada (You know it as Tenedos) for example :D, in the summer of 2003 I saw apartments, under construction. :D My country always surprises me, I think EU will try to protect our villages now instead of us.
Christos7 January 3rd, 2005, 06:31 AM ah I see what you mean. :)
Yes certain islands have "building codes" to keep in theme... (most of them)
Tekir January 3rd, 2005, 06:34 AM If I decided to buy a house, I would buy it in Lesbos. But christos, houses are not for me. I should be mobile. Today in Lesbos, 2 days later in Gocek, 3 days later in Corfu, you see what I mean?
In the way, some bonitos, lufers, etc...
Mmmmmh...
P.S.: A friend of mine went to Lesbos this year, he was astonished by the island. You know it is not overpopulated, etc... But he says, fish was tooo expensive. :D You know what, you are selling FARM tsipouras for 20-30 Euros in the restaurants. Let me rephrase it again, FARM TSIPOURAS. Man, I can assure, I will start a fight if someone tries to give me a FARM tsipoura in Aegean for 30 Euros. :D
Well here in Ohio, I can pay 100 Euros, withoud any doubt...
Christos7 January 3rd, 2005, 06:39 AM Yes, the sea is your home... you can be anywhere, anytime. ;) Not bad.
I have a home in Mytilini (Lesvos). My family is from there. :D It is not too overpopulated, but more so than the other typical islands. It's the 2nd biggest island after Crete.
Tekir January 3rd, 2005, 06:44 AM I will visit you for shelter, logistics, clean water, etc... ;) jk

Are you serious? I've been to Bozcaada 2 years ago and it was full of houses with grape fields, there were a few small aprtments at the town center but that was it, i don't think they will let people make apartments? This would be a disaster!
Allan January 3rd, 2005, 04:26 PM I am speechles. Such a beautiful island. Zafiris, thanks for posting these pictures. :okay:
Tekir January 3rd, 2005, 04:33 PM On the southeast of island you can see them, but I think the mayor will take care of it. Visit Bozcaada, it has a magnificent castle and a town centre. ;)
Christos7 January 5th, 2005, 07:08 PM I will visit you for shelter, logistics, clean water, etc... ;) jk
Anytime Tekir. :D
We will go for some farm tsipouras. :jk: lol....
AstroBoy January 7th, 2005, 01:37 PM Hey, how many islands does Greece have in total?
WrightCup January 7th, 2005, 06:34 PM That's a difficult question. The total number is than a thousand -there are many small islets but the inhabited islands of Greece should be less than a hundred.
mitsubishi January 8th, 2005, 04:59 PM There are more than 6,000 Greek islands and islets in the Aegean and Ionian Seas, from which 227 are inhabited. However, only 78 islands have more than 100 inhabitants.
ch1le January 8th, 2005, 05:19 PM mitsu, what tower is that in your avatar?
mitsubishi January 9th, 2005, 01:55 AM It's from the forum's library. I just liked the photo - no personal connection.
Is it the Tallinn TV tower?
sts January 9th, 2005, 03:59 PM Stunning!!

Amazing! That many! :) Very lucky. Croatia has over 1100 islands and only a small percentage are lived on too.
