Some historical pics.
Rotterdam in 1940
http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/435/wijnhaven19337vo.jpg
and After the city(cleaned up) was totally bombed and mostly burned down.
http://img271.imageshack.us/img271/5200/wijnhaven19460wp.jpg
Thats why the city is totally new and modern.
Some old buildings where not destroyed like the Cityhall, White House(high white officebuilding on photo) and Office and some other streets.

baqthier December 16th, 2002, 06:07 PM hi-rises seems to be scattered(currently)..hey i love this type.. but it need more tall ones..Hi-rise is a must
8.5/10
Irish Blood English Heart December 18th, 2002, 06:41 PM I like that a lot, rotterdam seems to be 1 of the most modern cities in the whole of Europe and that new development on the 1st pic near the river looks great.
For Europe i'd give Rotterdam 8/10 as its one of the best, on a world scale maybe 6 or 7.
SteelCity32 December 18th, 2002, 11:29 PM nice night views. This is a very underlooked skyline
9/10
CrazyKing December 18th, 2002, 11:44 PM 9/10 - I like it... The panorama is amazing... :D
CG5 December 18th, 2002, 11:44 PM One of the most innovative cities in skyscraper design. Anywhere. I love Rotterdam's sense of adventure in design. It is very spread out, but that allows for each building to be taken in individually and for all of the interesting features to be easily seen. One of my favorite skylines anywhere.
9/10
AG December 18th, 2002, 11:56 PM Quite good skyscrapers in their looks and design, but there are a few flat gaps in between that I see.
7/10
Pablo December 19th, 2002, 07:38 AM not very nice skyline;)
X-seed 4000 December 19th, 2002, 10:23 AM Rotterdam's skyline is one of the perfect examples in European cities that you don't need tall buildings to have a great skyline! And Its skyline is very exceptional for its size! 8.5/10!
supercees December 19th, 2002, 12:12 PM Excellent. Maybe the most beautiful in Europe! Although, it still needs some more high rise buildings... That picture of the Delfste Poort at night is excellent. Still my most beautiful skyscraper ever.....
Kaneda December 20th, 2002, 08:34 PM I've heard many people call it ugly, and boring.... I don't understand them, i love it's skyline....
Olek December 21st, 2002, 06:05 PM nice panorama , but there is a lot of empty space . 8/10
SUNNI December 26th, 2002, 02:55 AM i dont see anythin bad about it
7.5
Hamanichi Sakuragi January 11th, 2003, 06:14 PM ooopsssss, the delfste poort is 151m.:bash:
Dennis January 11th, 2003, 09:17 PM nice pics, Rotterdam owns!
mookiecece January 11th, 2003, 10:34 PM Rotterdam has a lot of highrises for a european city. they look nice too 8.5/10
woodhousen January 11th, 2003, 11:55 PM nice skyline with a good variation in height (imo what makes a good skyline) i believe however, the only thing it needs it s pinnicle. something high enough but not too high in the centre just to make it a world class skyline.
7, a skyline over looked i believe!
btw, what is the tallest building and how high is it??
WaRR January 12th, 2003, 12:19 AM Fair amount of highrises and not many skyscrapers. I give it 6.5 (purely for good architecture). Build taller and my rating will go up too :)
woodhousen January 12th, 2003, 09:12 PM hmmmm i have a feeling that would be just a tiny bit tooo tall. i was thinking about something around the 175-200m mark myself
renell January 13th, 2003, 05:36 AM small skyline but a very modern one, 7.5
1+2=3 February 15th, 2003, 12:47 AM Damn, I almost forget to rate this beautifull skyline, I give it a 7/10, to be honest. (Altough I'm from the Netherlands).
Eduardo Lopez February 15th, 2003, 02:42 AM Amazing architecture but the skyline is little empty in some areas, i will give a 7.5/10 (world scale)
supercees February 18th, 2003, 10:53 AM 2 Pics I had to show you... they come fom www.hoogbouw010.nl and are made by René Hoogenkamp....

I hope you are okay with this hoogbouw 010!
Francis20 February 19th, 2003, 11:29 AM quite scattered...
but the bridge is amazing.
that dusty pic is great. i like bridges that look like that. suspension bridges, that is.
u should make it a postcard!!!
7.5/10
overall, the photograpies are commendable! honest!
DrumCorpsAlum February 22nd, 2003, 08:23 PM That bridge is kickin! Rotterdam, especially from that very first pic appears to be a clean and modern city. Not to mention the historic structures here and there. On the whole, I would give the skyline a 7.5/10.
weirdo April 5th, 2003, 07:04 PM sometimes unattractive in pictures but most of the time beautiful. never been to the city itself so i'm going to base my decision on pictures. it has great buildings to start with. and additional buildings, which should be taller and more beuatiful will give this skyline a perfect 10/10. however, at this moment 7.5/10. but because of the clean (i think) water that adds charm to the city, i give it 8/10
dutchmetal April 7th, 2003, 02:52 PM Rotterdam is a great city! The true Dutch highrise city. Gave it a 10/10 !
Deventer Up April 8th, 2003, 12:17 PM It certainly is the best skyline of the Netherlands :D
An 8,5
BGT April 16th, 2003, 02:24 AM 8/10
tmac9wr May 13th, 2003, 05:24 PM It's a nice skyline, but I have seen some people call it one of the best in the world....I definitely don't agree though. I like nice clusters of tall buildings.
Fabio July 14th, 2003, 09:34 PM 9/10
It needs some more towers but it still has some quality ones and the city cenary (water, bridges, plazas, etc) helped a lot.
Great city, one of the betters in Europe and why not in the world.
:okay:
Labrador July 17th, 2003, 09:11 PM 9/10 Rotterdam's definetely got one of Europe's top skylines. The panorama from the top of Euromast feels like you're there:eek: :)
SteelCity32 August 11th, 2003, 08:47 PM wow, I love the lights at night. Rotterdam has such an underrated skyline
8/10
Javier August 12th, 2003, 07:45 PM 8.5/10
it's hard to build skyscrapers on the water, i like a lot rotterdam's skyline
Gambini September 24th, 2003, 05:42 PM The true Dutch skyscraper city :)
An 8!
julesstoop November 23rd, 2003, 02:04 AM Very nice picture indeed.
Though obviously still lacking real hight, the density and general shape are really cool for such a relatively small city. And to think that a large and important part of the skyline (Kop van Zuid) doesn't fall withing the scope of this picture (due to sheer proximity from the point of view of the photagrapher). A 360o panorama from this place would be great imo.
SeeMacau November 25th, 2003, 03:15 AM Amazing pics !! Ture skyscrapers city
9.5/10
Frits85 March 17th, 2004, 02:46 PM 8/10
Necker March 18th, 2004, 02:44 PM I love Rotterdam's skyline
Tyzos March 20th, 2004, 06:45 PM 10/10. It gives me a good feeling driving over the Van Brienenoord bridge at night watching the Rotterdam skyline.
Just really impressing (for a dutch city).
KPN tower March 24th, 2004, 08:23 PM http://www.skyscrapercity.com/database/buildings/627.jpg
this one is sooo nice btw:)
Tyzos April 6th, 2004, 07:46 AM I think Rotterdam has a great skyline for relatively small city (600.000 people).
It's good to see that there are a lot of projects (150-250m).
SoboleuS April 6th, 2004, 12:00 PM The previous pics don't show, so I'm posting the new ones (CborG posted them in another thread)

rayman April 25th, 2004, 04:18 PM i like the bridge and that blue color, nice.
but the rest of the skyline is so so give it 6.5 or mayb a 7
Kampflamm April 25th, 2004, 04:24 PM 7...pretty dense for a European skyline.
empersouf April 25th, 2004, 05:07 PM The most dense city of Europe I think, I love the skyline of Rotterdam. 10/10
ayelt June 5th, 2004, 02:49 PM I love Rotterdam, 8/10
james2390 June 5th, 2004, 06:22 PM Rotterdam has a beautiful skyline, with some of Europe's best. I would love to see the 200 meter + skyscraper go up:cheers: 8.5/10
JRQ June 7th, 2004, 06:52 PM Like its density. Like the city. Don't like the skyline too much.
Oh well, give it some years.- 9/10
The Messiah June 10th, 2004, 04:18 PM Rotterdam! My favorite city in The Netherlands.A great skyline imo and great architecture.
8.0/10
KPN tower June 21st, 2004, 06:30 PM great architecture, Remember we had the world war 2 bombings on our city. The city was finished about 1970. We started the high rise in 1988. And since then where getting higher and higher......... in a short 16 years, and many buildings will fallow. ANd rotterdam aint that big as hong kong and the netherlands aint china or US!
smartlake July 11th, 2004, 10:09 AM I proudly gave it a nine. Who would've thought that Europe could have tall buildings. I do love the Dutch, but I thought that the largest Dutch city would have a better skyline. Rotterdam isn't very well known. Anyway this skylike is nice and sort of classy.
goschio July 15th, 2004, 12:06 PM 6/10
Too many commieblocks and no height!
Basel_United July 17th, 2004, 08:40 AM Rotterdam has in my opinion to much midscrapers but to less skyscrapers (>150m). Not so much higher buildings are more than so much lower ones.
Gambini July 17th, 2004, 07:26 PM An 8, this includes the city itself. The future looks (very) bright though with loads of arsekicking designs! Expect a higher rating in the future!

These are 2 nice shots from the city. Here you can see that Rotterdam had a great skyline. The weather isn't that clear, but gives the right image.

eusebius August 22nd, 2004, 06:25 AM It's a very peculiar skyline. No natural highs whatsoever as the surrounding area is completely flat. Like in one of those aerial views, Rotterdam's main virtue, as a matter of fact, is its skyline. The town has (had) a highrise policy: wherever allowed and approved of by consensus, highrise should be built. So this built the skyline the town now has. Just 2 or 3 buildings which are superbly stunning and combined with dozens of unspectacular yet OK towers, the town reaches Europe's top5 I dare to type.
wajz August 23rd, 2004, 11:19 PM What I find a shame about Rotterdam's skyline is that most buildings are varieties of the boring shoebox-type. The Millennium tower (the Westin hotel) is a notable exception, but most of the Rotterdam highrises are cubic and flat-topped. It would have been nice to see more variety, like in Den Haag for instance where hardly any of the new highrises are square and bare... quite the contrary in fact (it's almost becoming a bit TOO extravagant in Den Haag, I think...!)
Shafick August 24th, 2004, 10:43 PM Luxurious...10 points...!!!

Wajid H. November 25th, 2004, 06:30 PM This is a city that is developing yet, as you can see at the pictures.
It hasn't that density yet, that NYC has. But I hope that that will change as soon as possible. But despite of that, you can make a good judgement of this city. So give your judgement by voting.

Historical buildings in downtown Rotterdam? :hahaha:

Outside the city centre you can find historical buildings :)

sweek February 14th, 2006, 01:02 AM I like the mix between old and new, high and low, and the moderate height of the scrapers. I like the diversion, and the very nice looking individual buildings. I'm not a fan of cities with huge buildings everywhere you look, without much variety.
So yes, I do like this city. :)

Welcome to Rotterdam (but the city centers of Amsterdam and Utrecht are much more beautifull of you love historical buildings).
You should really revisit Rotterdam in about 10 years. There will be many high-rise buildings added to the city in 2015.

JustHorace May 19th, 2006, 10:26 AM Wonderful city...considering that it's one of the world's busiest seaports. :okay: 9/10
needs a little more high-rise.
LAYZIEDOGG May 19th, 2006, 05:23 PM In the Netherlands the best skyline by far.On a worldscale not bad at all ,
but it needs some very tall ,200-250m,to really impress.
For now I'll give it a 8.5/10. . .

Dr. Dubai August 19th, 2006, 01:53 PM clearly that means there's a 88 meter luxury apartment tower going up on the left and a 128 meter luxury apartment tower going up on the right, but they're still finishing the groundwork.
Iy you only look at the towers this area will be fabulous, but there's still a lot to improve here.

1. Binnenkomst op Rotterdam Centraal
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/001.jpg
2. Het weena met haar lijnenspel
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/16-1.jpg
3. Nogmaals
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/14.jpg
4. 'Wat' minder mooi is het politiebureau, wat mij betreft mag de betreffende architect levenslang in één van de ongetwijfeld aanwezige politiecellen opgesloten worden.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/28.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/29.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/33.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/40.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/43.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/44.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/46.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/48.jpg
12. Stadsfauna
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/51.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/55.jpg
14. Those were the eighties
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/74.jpg
15. Station Blaak blijft een mooie, futuristische constructie
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/75.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/80.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/82.jpg
If I had a hammer...
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/92-1.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/96.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/95-1.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/100.jpg
21. Plaquette op dit gebouw
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/97.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/101-1.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/105.jpg
24. Groot tegenstander van 'meer blauw' op straat
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/115.jpg
25. Groot voorstander van 'meer rood' op straat
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/130.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/137.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/142.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/147.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/151.jpg
28. Hoewel, grote stad?
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/152.jpg
29. Linea Nova
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/155.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/163-1.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/164.jpg
31. De Volksuniversiteit, gelegen aan de Heemraadssingel. Geweldig pand
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/erasmus_photos/Rotterdam3/165.jpg
