have you guys ever heard of JAMES ROUSE? i think we need a great developer thread since we are only aware of the ones here...

Canary Wharf now there is a project worth mentioning!

but he also had a habit of dusting off old proposals that had long since been canceled (or were never anything more than drawings to begin with) and present them as "new" and would sometimes make outlandish claims---such as no less than thirteen supertalls or near supertalls being planned---without a shred of factual evidence behind it. Wow, I don't remember that at all. He is an architect and had access to things that only a few in the development business had. He and I have colleaugues in common and have had conversations offline. Not a bad guy, but he found that the forum had denegrated from a Skyscraper page with people who worked in the industry into more of an opinion page like the Herald comments section.
Ironically, the all cap rants added fuel to that fire.

Actually, Bayside was developed by the Rouse Company---of which James Rouse was the founder. I don't believe he was quite as hands-on with the project as he was with others such as Faneuil Hall or Inner Harbor in Baltimore, however.

I don't believe he was quite as hands-on with the project as he was with others such as Faneuil Hall or Inner Harbor in Baltimore, however.Nope...he left the operations prior to the 1980's. But he was responsible for one of the first covered shopping malls, the types of developments that make the neo urban planners cringe. But he also developed great urban centers too. A very outstanding career and legacy.

No doubt Rouse did a ton of GREAT work. Anyone who has enjoyed the pleasures of Faneuil Hall (or so many other dynamic urban gathering points) knows how well he understood cities and the energies that make them work.

Had no idea Edward Norton was his grandson. Cool!

Speaking of odd connections like that, Kevin Bacon's grandfather (Edmund Bacon) was a famous city planner here in Philadelphia. In fact, I park along "Edmund Bacon Way" nearly every day when I go swimming at a local health club.

well it just so happens that rouse had a brother who was also a big developer in philly if im not mistaken...

in regards to edward norton, his family legacy didnt stop with his grandfather. his father was way ahead of the curve when it came to preservation and edward norton is very well known for his green views!

that is one amazing family if you ask me...

Agreed.

I really think there's something to families like that having a virtual genetic strain that makes them civic champions. I know that Kevin Bacon (even though he presumably lives in California) is a tireless promoter of the arts here in Philly and does so without seeking the least bit of publicity. No doubt it's because his grandfather, Edmund Bacon, was such a huge force here in regards to urban planning.

You're right about the Rouse connection as well. Willard Rouse was the driving force behind the Liberty Place skyscrapers that ended the so-called "Gentleman's Agreement" on height back in the early 1980s. Ironically enough, Edmund Bacon strongly opposed the towers---he had an almost romantic vision of Philadelphia as a low-rise American version of Paris---but I think history shows that Rouse was right and throwing out the height restrictions (which were never official anyway) made for a more interesting city.

Retail at 900. Thats great!!!! The Biscayne Wall is in need of some retail. Tons of people leave the arena every few days.

Hopefully if a few retail estabishments setup shop, more will come, creating some vibrancy in what can be a rather dull area...

That's pretty neat that the condo-owners get to pick their own tiling for the balconies. Are a lot of the buildings like that in Miami? It probably will look cool at night time when/if balcony lights are on and you see a whole mosaic of colors reflecting off the balcony floors.

Few developer have completed their buildings with flooring installed on the balcony. One Bal Harbour (http://www.bryanandbill.com/condo/One-Bal-Harbour) is one of the few I know of where the developer opted for a uniform look and tiled all exterior spaces.

There are 2 pools at 900. The pool with the lane marker is a lap pool. The other pool is for swimming and relaxing.

Hi! I'm new here... I am currently on my phone so my browsing skills are limited. Anyway... My family is seriously consider buying an appartment in Miami. So far we liked the brickell key area.I know it is a really good residential zone but i was wondering is there any difference between both?

Brickell and Brickell Key?
I mean of course there should be, but are they equally safe or the key is supposed to be better and an overall upper experience?

My phone is struggling a bit .. So sorry if this is not the appropiate topic, i can't search atm but, i am really looking forward for a reply.

I posted herebecause we also like this building, i find it really beautiful. I was wondering what is the current price range for it?

Thanks!

^^Probably the only significant difference between Brickell and Brickell Key is the fact that the key is mostly residential and family oriented while the rest of Brickell is more for the professionals and urbanites. They are both safe neighborhoods compared to the rest of downtown. The 900 Biscayne tower is a little bit pricey. The cheapest list price you'll find is about $400,000. It goes up to the 2 millions. Hope this helps.

900 is a nice building, but overpriced in my opinion. It's also not located in Brickell or Brickell Key, but more to the north part of the urban core. The great thing about 900 is you get to see the cruise ships and the arena from your balcony. I rather live on the southern side of the river or just north of it (Jade, Icon, Epic).

900 is getting another restaurant... opening up next month. It's Chinese with a full bar. I got to peak inside and it looks very cozy and very Chinese. I was told that this is the second location, the first is near the beach, but I cant remember the name.
