Pakistan offers help to Sudan in IT sector

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 7: Pakistan is ready to assist Sudan in the IT sector by initiating joint ventures and transferring expertise and technical know-how for socio-economic development.

The offer was made to Sudan's ambassador to Pakistan Daffa Alla Elhag Ali Osman by Minister for Information Technology Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari on Friday.

Pakistan is ready to offer training and technical expertise to help implement e-government projects in Sudan through Pakistani companies that had already successfully executed big e- government projects such as the issuance of computerized identity cards to citizens.

Mr Leghari told the Sudanese envoy that Pakistan's IT sector had shown a healthy growth during the last two years. The skilled workforce had helped the local IT industry register about 50 per cent growth in the export of IT-enabled services and products to the outside world.

Government policies in the IT and telecom sector had already brought about remarkable and radical changes in the sector, providing for a conducive and investment-friendly environment for international businesses, he said.

"Our effort is to play the role of a facilitator with minimum government interference which has gone a long way in attracting billions of dollars in investment in the telecom sector," he added.

Awais Leghari said the government was also making serious efforts to privatize the Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTCL) and major international players from the US, Singapore, Malaysia and the UAE had shown interest in investing in the company.

He said the government was focussing on the promotion of IT industry, particularly implementation of e-government project at the federal and provincial government levels.

"The prime minister himself is keen to oversee progress on this major initiative and has established the e-government commission, headed by him, to give plans and targets to different ministries to ensure a timely implementation of the e-government project," Mr Leghari said.

Daffa Alla Elhag Ali Osman thanked Awais Leghari for the support, saying his country would love to benefit from the successes gained by Pakistan in the IT and telecom sector. He also invited the minister to visit Sudan and meet key people in the IT and telecom industry to explore ways of forging joint ventures.

Sudanese businessmen are keen to enter into mutually- beneficial partnerships with their Pakistani counterparts and the minister's visit to Sudan would prove to be very decisive and fruitful in furthering ties between the two countries, the ambassador said.

I think Sudan desperately needs Information Technology & e-Services. Food and water can come later.

My Aunt (who is Indian.... no relation) was a Principle of one of the AKES projects in India. She had worked there as a Principle for 7 years or so. She is Hindu but in her house there is a picture of Prince Karim Agha Khan right beside the traditional Hindu statues.

I find it very interesting. It is really amazing what the Agha Khan organisation is doing for countries like Pakistan and other Central Asian countries. Fortunately Musharraf has recognised their efforts and vigorously supports it. Our mullahs are the first ones to outcast them as "non-believers" but what they dont see is there massive philanthropic efforts.

P.S: No I'm not "Agha Khani".........

I am a pakistani too, but it makes me discust the people representing pakistan here on skyscrapercity. First off, we like to fight ourselves over mohajir and punjabi issues. Then the indian and pakistani issue.

Whenever an indian comes here to post a coment, others flame over him in much provocative manner then he originally posted. This infact makes us look like fools as are doing more wrong than the original poster in the name of protecting our boards.

I dont see this happening in the indian board, they seem more welcomming then here. This place looks to me more like politics atmosphere then focusing on the construction discussion.

beside what would you like to see, those aunties in bikinis like those russian ladies or aunties in a modest clothing. I would prefer them being in a much modest clothing. Beside salwar kameez is'nt a disgrace to our society, its our way of culture.

Well i view this messageboard all the time. there usually is not any need for me to make any replies. im only here becase Urbanpakistan.com is down. Honestly though, i agree with that dany guy. I know most indians are assholes when it comes to us pakistanis but lets just try to keep a positive and enlightened image. we dont need to disrespect someone because their indian. it just makes us look bad. Ive noticed that throughout the forums on this site alot of people dont like pakistanis because of all the drama you guys bring to their threads. we should welcome other people and especially other indians on this forum. if we show some hospitality im shore they will aswell

well the comment he made wasn't funny at alll, we are muslims and if our women can't wear bikini's stuff well they can wear more safer clothes and they have right to enjoy their life and if they those aunties will be in shalwar and kamees then what's the matter, it doesn't matter what you wear.

well, now it feels like pakistan in here
where in a gathering people start arguing over stupid or small matters
they will argue until the atmosphere gets really tense and both are angry or one feels superior over the other therefore satisfied

Let think about it for a minute, Does it matter what that indian guy says or thinks?

Lets not feed these troll beacuse the only reason they are here, is to may you angry and shout over the internet. In other forums on this board, they don't get angry at the troll. They do what should be done, to ignore them

He's probably laughing at the response you guys post, and reluctant to do it again!

Why do all these renderings for new buildings anywhere in Pakistan feature Europeans in the graphics when Pakistanis are obviously not Europeans, and few Europeans ever step foot in a Pakistani business building?

Lol.. I noticed that too, its so weird. Why cant they use Pakistani models?

Aryan
July 21st, 2005, 02:47 AM
They probably used western models to represent people because the firm contracted to design the renderings was either western, or primarily catered for the western market.

Either way, its not that much of a big deal. Its the fact we are getting a really decent pharmaceutical investment.

CNtower,

You gotta chill out. I'm a university graduate, thank you, so don't assume I'm uneducated. In fact, because I am educated, I can point out the flaws of such a project without letting blind nationalism obscure my eyes from reality and little details. It's not as if I'm criticising you.

Aside from the blabberings of CNtower, I think i have a valid point when i say that Pakistanis need to be confident enough to place pictures of PAKISTANIS in adverts and renderings such as this (Does that sound like I'm pretending to be Pakistani?)

You can be whatever the hell you please see if I care; your a university graduate? Sure ok and am I suppose to feel low and bad? For you kind information, I could careless about status. Many Pakistanis love status but I don't; you could be a university graduate and be the scum of the earth or be a poor man on the street who could have the most decent, kindest heart anyone could imagine. So don't bring that garbage in here.

Secondly a lot of what you posted is nothing but nonsense. You put down everything you can get your hands on and instead of backing your statements up with credible information you just blabber away like a patethic little troll; not smart pal.

Do yourself a favour; if you don't like something go ahead but at least give a reason why. I like this renovation of Avenits Building; the reasons are because it's giving the whole building a new look and giving the general area a good look.

You don't like it because it has models of white people? Pretty low if you ask me...couldn't you possibly come up with anything better?

btw, you seem to be very proficient at using sketchup. Would you mind modelling out some more of Karachi's old colonial buildings? you can get their pictures from http://www.historickarachi.com/heritage_revisited.htm
I am sure that will be MUCH appreciated by all of Karachi's heritage enthusiasts (not to mention help preserve them).
