New Jack City April 28th, 2005, 06:00 PM Jersey City, definitely an up and coming developing city that seems to get better and better to improve itself.
I*LOVE*NY April 28th, 2005, 06:25 PM newark
deadmaker7 April 28th, 2005, 08:56 PM Right now it would have to be JC, but I hope Newark can pull itself out of a 40+ year rut and reclaim it's place as one of America's greater cities. Not likely in the near future, though. :dunno:

ECoastTransplant April 29th, 2005, 06:08 AM Newark- real city with 'grit'

Killadelphia April 29th, 2005, 05:55 PM Hmm... Never actually been inside either of the cities. Both are phenominally impressive for their size, especially skyscraper wise. In terms of skyline, I like Newark better right now because it's real and has a lot of age, but Jersey City has some huge ass developement going on and before ya know it, it's gonna be way up there in teh rankings. They are both really nciely dense and urban, btu Newark takes it for me because a) it reminds me of a bigger, safer Camden, and b) because it reminds me of Philly to an extent and it seems to be more independant than Jersey City, which I like, and it also seems to have a more concentrated core.
asohn April 29th, 2005, 07:58 PM ^ Well, Jersey City's downtown is far from the waterfront. Up until 15 years ago, the JC waterfront was abandoned rail yards and factories. The "REAL" Jersey City is farther inland, and is slowly being redeveloped.
Killadelphia April 30th, 2005, 12:05 AM My bad, as I said: I've never actually been inside either city. I've driven past Newark on teh way to NYC and I've driven over Jersey City on the way to NYC or Larchmont (my cousins live there).
steel April 30th, 2005, 01:29 AM Newark JC is an office park
jmancuso April 30th, 2005, 02:52 AM jersey city is getting expensive so if i moved to northern jersey (something i am considering), it would have to be somewhere near newark. but not newark.
Furiine April 30th, 2005, 05:59 AM Jersey City seems like it's really making a big comeback, not that Newark isn't as well. It just seems like JC is getting things done faster in terms of redevelopment and new construction as well.
BuffCity April 30th, 2005, 07:20 PM Jersey City - no real reason

Killadelphia May 1st, 2005, 12:05 AM ^Ok, few! I got a lil worried there that we lost a new resident.

ajaxrasputin July 20th, 2005, 09:29 AM Newark vs Jersey city... What is this thread specifically comparing between these cities? Skylines? Jersey City has the larger highrises and is developing at a higher rate than Newark, but if we are comparing "bustling" downtowns then in my opinion there is no comparison. Newark kills JC.
I haven't been to the Pavonia/Newport area of Jersey City in a while, but I remember it being like no mans land. The Journal Square section of JC had much more activity. I'm talking about 5 to 8 years ago since I was in the waterfront area of JC though. Jersey City is for wanna be New Yorkers. Newark is for hardcore New Jerseyans.

^ what he said.
bagel July 20th, 2005, 11:28 PM Newark, for the reasons stated above. I am really hoping Newark is on its way up. It's been wrecked since the 1960s and if you all could see how far it's come since the 1980s and early 1990s, you'd pull for Newark too.
It's a real city with a real core.
