Kampflamm April 9th, 2005, 03:16 PM I love brick. Haven't seen to many brick baroque (or what style is it?) churches.
Meeg April 10th, 2005, 07:48 PM The Church of St Peter and Paul was constructed in 1596-1619 and founded by the Jesuit Order by King Zygmunt III Waza. Built by Jozef Britius, Jan Maria Bernardoni and Jan Trevano, It resembles the Il Gesu church in Roma. Built in Baroque style, it has one nave surrounded by a number of chapels. The entrance doorway is decorated by the sculptures of the 12 apostles created by David Heel. In the monumental interior there is a late Baroque Main Altar constructed in 1735 by Kacper Bażanka with the painting, "Granting the Keys to St. Peter", by Józef Brodowski. (1820). Most of the decorations are from 1st half of XVIII c. The crypt contains the remains of Piotr Skarga, a distinguished Polish priest. (Open 09.00-17.45).

Gatsby December 18th, 2005, 12:37 PM the red brick is a Gothic influence - very strong in Poland at the time. it is also quite lofty compared with the Italian prototypes. in Italy such proportions would have been impossible. it is quite sumptuous and grand, though, and that is why i'll give it 9.
