^^believe me,Stuttgart is much more beautiful than Dortmund!!!!but i don't know if it's more beautiful than Bremen;that would be a good City vs. City thread..!

Great pictures of a German and European city that hardly ever appears on the English speaking sub-forums!! I don't know if it appears on the German one. Where are the headquarters of Mercedes-Benz (sorry, I mean Daimler-Chrysler) and Porsche?

Also, isn't Stuttgart one of the wealthiest cities in Germany?

@goschio: Maybe, if you are familiar with it, but to my eyes it's very interesting. It's very subjective.

Thanks. The DC HQ is located in the south of the city (S-Moehringen), near the airport. In the center of the 3rd pic you can make out some DC R&D facilities etc., in addition "Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadium" on the left.
The Porsche HQ is in the northern part of the city (S-Zuffenhausen).

Stuttgart region is in fact one of the wealthiest regions in Europe and Germany.

Stuttgart is boring and ugly.
Before I moved to Stuttgart a year ago, I had the same opinion.
Now I am really surprised of the high standard of living in this city. I agree that great parts of downtown consist of ugly and boxy concrete post war buildings, but especially on account of the neighbouring inner city wards with beautiful 19th century historical buildings the city is in total unique and beautiful, at least to me...
I don' t know if Stuttgart' s more boring than Frankfurt, Duesseldorf or Hannover...Compared with Tokyo, where I grew up, you can definitely say Stuttgart' s boring, but in comparison with other German cities of its class...I' m not sure.

Well, the "antenna" is the TV tower built in 1956.

Stuttgart is a nice looking city... Btw, you germans are really the no. 1 in antenna tower design and construction! That explains why the KL Tower was built by some german firm...

Btw, what is that funny-looking antenna tower on the hill?

This was the first modern skytower in the world, and was the one that inspired the Space Needle in Seattle and others.

The first pictures suck but the last ones look really great. And that stadium also looks pretty cool. I hope that next year all these german cities are shown to the world in account of the world soccer cup! It will be very nice, I know little about German cities other than Fkfurt and Berlin

Great pix!!! Thanks for the tour. The city looks great from both street level and from above- you're making miss Europe!!

A few things though, that huge green storage tank on the righthand side of the photo is U-G-L-Y... hopefully it'll be taken down someday though:
http://www.arcor.de/palb/alben/34/657834/1024_6463613832333039.jpg

Also, I'm happy see they're implementing green roofs in this city (roof @ bottom of photo). Do you know anything about green roofs in Germany, are there tax incentives to build them?? I know that Germany is a leader in there construction.

I don't see why so many Germans hate on Stuttgart. It's not gray as portrayed in the pictures (well, depends on the weather, of course), but very very green, clean and has this warm feeling. It shouldn't be even compared to places like Dortmund.

^ I quite like the town, but it needs some major upgrades. The main park that starts by the hauptbahnhof looks as though it hasn't been upgraded since the 1970's. In fact, it reminds me of parks from my very early childhood. This sort of thing does need to be modernized. Of cuase, if the Stuttgart 21 plan actually goes ahead (which I doubt) then all this will happen.

The rest of the city is nice, with green hills on either side and lovely old buildings, but there is something about the city that feels so provincial. I can't put my finger on it, but it feels like walking around a city so much smaller than it really is. You see the throngs of people, so you know it's not a small town, but there seems so little there, and few landmark buildings. The only landmark structure I can think of is the TV tower, the first of it's type in the world. It's of worthy historical value, but it's certainly no Sydney Opera House, or Budapest Parliament if you know what I mean.
