I feel like I had a revelation when I took the trash out the other day because I heard a small plane fly over and I just had to look. I've loved planes all my life and I'm just itching to seriously take the path to becoming a pilot. I'm not sure what good sources are out there but does anyone know what it takes to someday become a commercial pilot? I know they get paid pretty well so it just made me wonder. Thanks in advance.

One of my buds is training to become a commercial pilot back in Jacksonville @ JU. I think he just applied to the program after high school.

You dont start off being a commercial pilot I would think. You usually start flying smaller planes, then go on to fly UPS or FEDEX or other non-passenger aircraft. You then get jobs with smaller airlines..then when you have the experience..move to the big boys (and higher paid) such as United, American Airlines, British Airlines..etc. Its hard to be a pilot....you need sooooo much training time-due to FAA regulations. You need to be pretty much in perfect health...as they cant afford you having a heart attack in midflight. Being in the airforce is always a plus. Pretty much, you have to have a wonderous criminal record and be a good, healthy, intelligent citezin. Also, the airlines are having trouble. It will be hard landing a job...I would find a backup career.
