View Full Version : LA!!!!!!! This is how we feel!
SILVERLAKE January 12th, 2005, 04:53 PM A lot of people made fun of me when I said "Beautiful places are prone to disaster, but I would rather die in an earthquake in LA or a tsunami in Thailand, then die a slow death in some place where it is grey and freezing half the year."
But as you can see from the LA Times. This philosophy is shared by millions.
SOUTHLAND'S RECORD RAINFALL
Risk Goes Hand in Hand With Beauty
By Daryl Kelley, Catherine Saillant and Steve Chawkins, Times Staff Writers
Ventura County officials say it was tough to reason with residents of La Conchita.
They were living under a looming 600-foot cliff that slumped a decade ago and destroyed about half a dozen houses. And then there was the Model T Ford buried in someone's backyard that hinted at earlier cataclysmic events.
Signs posted by the county — "Enter at Your Own Risk" — after the 1995 disaster were torn down. Someone even defiantly spray-painted: "What Slide?" on the collapsed roof of a house.
But many longtime residents bet that life at the beach was worth the danger, a gamble with nature that many Californians routinely take to one extent or another.

CarsonCaliBrotha January 13th, 2005, 04:30 AM Hey, not everybody lives near the beach. Matter of fact, very few live by the beach, only rich people. Theres no risk of a landslide over here.

Most middle class people can be live on beach like Santa Monica, Venice, Long Beach and some beach cities.

Long Beach is kind of an oxymoron. I've been through there so many times, and you wouldn't have guessed theres an ocean unless you went down the 710 into Downtown Long Beach. Venice relies on the beach, but Santa Monica is more of a mixed place. BMG(a big music industry) is located there on Wilshire.

i'm sure if someone put down L.A. it would hurt him 10x more then it would any other forumer whose city was being under fire.

Silver7 January 23rd, 2005, 10:41 PM It's funny how this Silverlake guy always puts down the north, I think it makes him feel secure or something. Well, I love the snow so I don't know what your talking about. It's so nice to warm up next to a toasty fire while the snow gently drops down outside my window. I know, it's SUPPOSED to sound corny, you know, to imitate some of Silverlake's threads about how wonderful life is in LA. :tongue3:
_tictac_ January 24th, 2005, 04:58 AM Seriously...
What makes you (att...citizens of LA and Chicago) think people gives a rats ass about your opinions? "Chicago is shit under Los Angeles' shoes blah blah blah..." and vice versa...
WHAT THE FUCK? :weird:
You guys are either blind, naive or just too fuckin stupid to realize that you're fighting against someone who's just as patriotic as you are.
I've been a member of this board for the past 2+ yrs and I am yet to see any of you guys making ANY FUCKING PROGRESS HERE... :sleepy:
Get a fuckin clue, Chicago and Los Angeles are equally beautiful and unique. LEARN TO LIVE WITH IT!
And while you're at it, GROW THE FUCK UP!
(sorry for cursing, haven't done that before but I'm tired of you people fighting over nothing)
I am obviously the only one here realizing how selfish and ignorant the users of this board have become...
Knowing that, I would say the chances of you people continuing the neverending fight are greater than all your egos, combined.
Mark my words though, you're fighting a battle that cannot be won by either. :hammer:
digital_slash January 24th, 2005, 05:17 AM it's not really so much about the posters being selifsh and ignorant, but about pride. The battle is never going to end because its human nature.
If someone bashes your city, says it isn't up to par, or isn't world class, or some shit like that, people's pride is going to be hurt. Naturally they're going to lash out and try to defend it.
Human nature, what can you do ::shrug::

You're right. There is no justification for my attacks on LA. But some people make provocative statements (including me) and the cycle starts back up again.
Perhaps American cities aren't as mature as European ones yet. Chicago is still only going though its 2nd rebirth--European ones are what--in their 6th or 7th ones now? You're right
_tictac_ January 24th, 2005, 06:10 AM Hehe well atleast the two of you agreed with my statement, still hope eh? ;)
Anyway, you guys really need to stop this nonsense.
I mean, do you have any idea how lucky you are to be living in cities like Chicago or Los Angeles? Most would kill if given the same opportunity.
Why don't you all start acting like real patriots, fighting for what's rightfully in your cities' best interest? ;)
Trust me, forums (such as this one and Chicago's) full of people fighting will make most people run away so why don't you all just settle down and post something useful instead, such as compliments?
It's in the best interest of BOTH cities, and SSC for that matter.
Besides, you're all americans...why are you fighting? :? You're supposed to stand united, tall and strong you know :tongue2:
East or west, who cares...
Just a tip anyway ;) hehe
benji45 January 24th, 2005, 08:18 AM Why the hell did Michigan Avenue even bother coming in here!? All he did was stir up trouble with this :sleepy: Michigan Avenue, leave this to us, this is our Forum. Let us post whatever the hell we want to.
edsg25 January 24th, 2005, 02:56 PM Truthfully, here's a new motto for us non-Angelenos:
WE LOVE L.A. (it's silverlake we can do without)
No, he isn't the only rabid city partisan. he is, however, the worst of the lot. that's not a black mark on LA. I'm not responsible for idiotic Chicagoans on and off this board. LA is not responsible for silverlake.
The trick of things with silverlake is this:
for all of us, Angelenos and non-Angelenos, call him on what he is...not an LA supporter, but a borish, self-centered, and inconsiderate poster. silverlake's posts on LA are no different from how he handles other issues in his life: I'm #1, I'm better than you, you can't measure up to me, i'm living the life of joy and you, you poor shnook, are envying every breathe i take.
why bring LA into issues with silverlake? he is not responsible for LA.
Let me share my thoughts as a Chicagoan: LA is every bit a world class city as Chicago is. Anyone who questions LA's global status has a few screws loose. LA may not look like Chicago or New York, but that is no reason to take it any less seriously; cities throughout the world don't look alike...yet so many of them are great.
If silverlake said: Chicago is a piece of shit and LA rules the world,
I would say: Chicago is a great city. So is LA
I think it's safe to say, when it comes to Silverlake and me, our respective cities are not the issue. Character is. And with no sense of false pride, I can round rings around Silverlake in the character department. And do. As do virtually all the considerate and articulate Angeleno forumers.

My feelings exactly! I’m bias toward Chicago but seriously guy’s no one from either city is going to ever give up on this one. We both have a lot of city pride. Something you don’t find with too many other cities. So it’s a positive thing too. We just got to let it go and quite spewin gay ass remarks like "______ kicks ass and _______sucks!" It’s simply childish and completely discredits anything you want to say that might be of some real intelligence.

svs December 30th, 2005, 06:38 PM The Chicago vs. LA rivalry is never going to end. Partially because folks in both cities have this feeling of inferiority to New York and scramble to claim "second city" props. As someone who was born at one end of route 66 and who has lived at the other end of 66 for thirty years or so and who knows both cities very well and has family in both spots. let me break it down for you.

I could probably go on a lot longer, but there is not going to be a clear cut winner. One last category may be Chicagoans who dream of packing up and moving to LA versus Angelinos who dream of moving to Chicago. I suspect there are a lot more of the former than the latter.
FROM LOS ANGELES December 30th, 2005, 08:09 PM Well on the above list LA wins 39 to 27. Although they're just opinions.
nomad997 December 30th, 2005, 08:39 PM Wow this thread really came back from the dead.
But i agree with svs. There are things that you can attribute to ANY city in the United States that make it unique. LA, Chicago, hell even where I live (Wilmington, De) have things that make it desirable to certain people. I, myself, am moving to LA after college because I visited once and absolutely loved it. I have, though, run into people who have no desire to visit LA, Chicago, etc. This country has such a diverse population; that's what makes us great. Let people have their opinions, celebrate diversity, and realize that not everybody thinks LA, Chicago, etc. is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
NWside December 30th, 2005, 09:35 PM Well on the above list LA wins 39 to 27. Although they're just opinions.
Whale watching and palm trees aren't our strongest attributes...
SILVERLAKE December 31st, 2005, 02:20 AM It doesn't make sense at all that Klamedia restarted this thread. His post was pointless.
US Angelinos don't hate Chicago. We just don't see it as on the same tier as we are, that's all. LA has the allure of Paris, London, Hong Kong etc...A place where anything can happen, where the beautiful person behind those big sunglasses just might be famous. No offense, That's just how we see it, and how most everyone sees it.
We don't have any beef with Chicago as you can see how we never are in the Chicago forum, but a lot of Chicagoans and rare people from other cities (like DC) that are Chicago boosters are starting Chicago-LA fights all the time in threads only to discuss LA issues.
Let's have this thread die again.

Yeah! People in the LA and the west coast don't hate Chicago or think of them negatively or think of them as rivals as STL and KC probably do. We don't think about Chicago at all.
LA peers are Paris, London, Tokyo, NY, though they are older and more establisehd. We are the strapping young lad that's ready to take on the big boys. Yet we are still a little clumsy like a baby in a sandbox.

This is so true, before I joined this forum Chicago was just another city. If it wasn't for ER, Chicago would not be in the map. Most people want to come to LA from NY, and vice versa. Wow that totally sucks for you that your are swayed that much into forming your reality around the TELEVISION.
I can honestly say, as a former Californian, it is completely YOUR LOSS if your world is entirely LA and NY. Either you watch way too much television and are addicted to media culture, or you just simply don't like to travel. For most people a city is not "on the map" just because it is on TV. You know there is REALITY out there.
I do like how you admitted you were totally ignorant before though... "Before you joined this forum...." At least now you can admit you were totally ignorant of Chicago and am glad this forum taught you something.
But now you and Silverlake are forming your arguments around how cool it is to be ignorant--you realize that.

I'll bet you feel really good now, cut the nonsense California reject. Cut the speech no one really cares what you have to say anyway. I'm giving you a courtesy reply to your dramatic response. Youd be surprised how many people are not overly impressed with LA and its not a dig on the city, its just not for them.
I actually dont think the problem is LA moreso than it is Silverlake and his incessant need to boost LA as a NY equivelant. IT IS NOT! Look at every one of his post. Its almost as if if he doesnt mention NYC in every post it might actually sink in that LA is not NYC as much as he would apparently love it to be. I guess its also abit irritating when people act as if LA and NYC are the only two cities in this country, hence some bitterness from Chicagoans. I dont know...whatever. Its all completely stupid if some arent able to take their heads out of their asses and exit the bubble and realize theres so much more fasinating things outside of their city limits. To dismiss LA or Chicago as if the US wouldnt tank without either at this point, the person is seriously retarded. But I digress.
Jules January 1st, 2006, 02:01 AM Yeah!
And you wonder why people come in here starting shit. :sleepy:
Paris is Chicago's sister city, BTW.

Stop showing insecurity for your city. We never go your threads or worried what others say about LA. It becomes annoying when you come to our thread and glorified what's not really there. I am not been an ass or anything but I think we all heard enough nonsense from the Chicago side. You all have a Cold Happy New Year 2006......

yoyoniner January 1st, 2006, 04:52 AM P.S.
It seems you hate LA so much, what was it. You where never discovered by a hot shoot Hollywood agent. Or you simply couldn't afford to live here. :hilarious
Do you act like this in real life? Laughing at people you presume to be less fortunate?
First of all, my salary is a little over 320K a year. I can definetly afford LA. And my job as a radiologist allows me to be placed wherever I want to live. So no problems getting to LA and living their quite comfortably.
Anyways you are barking up the WRONG tree. What gave you the impression that I hate LA? When did I ever "bash LA?" All I said was that you are totally ignorant, and I called you out on it. And you are ignorant of Chicago and were using TELEVISION of all mediums as your standard for how important something is. Anyone that says Chicago is not a world class city, one of 3 in the country, is someone who is totally ignorant. And you are proud of it too it seems? How can you stand by and stand up and become a party with Silverlake in his comments that STL and KC are Chicago's rivals? I mean this guy is a fool and he is bringing you down with him because you can't stand to point out the fact of life that Chicago is indeed a completely world-class, huge metropolis. This isn't about bashing LA, this is about stupid, ignorant comments about other parts of the country you apparently haven't a clue about.
BTW I think you may need to check out this site just to give you some perspective. Reality and opinions of cities has little to do with what's on TV, it has to do with REAL LIFE and TRAVELLING:
http://www.rateitall.com/t-188-north-american-cities.aspx
I didn't post that because Chicago is #1 in opinions, but when people bash LA, which I did NOT do BTW, this at least will give you some perspective on why, because all the negative comments about LA in that site are all very similar. BTW to get to LA.... you'll have to scroll WAY down... to #66.
yoyoniner January 1st, 2006, 04:59 AM Instead of building a fence to keep out illegal immigrants Ahhrnold should build a fence to keep Chicago forumers (and the rare Chicago superboosters from other cities like DC) out of the LA threads until they can learn to keep from hijacking them and turning them all into "Chicago is so great" threads.
So let me get this straight.... if someone stands up for IGNORANT comments, made by you, that means we are just trying to prove "Chicago is so great?" That's ridiculous. I see no one in here recently saying Chicago is so great or bashing LA. What I do see are three people in this thread so insecure about their city that they are willing to bash Chicago though. Read through the latest posts. You have an insecure guy trying to make LA sound so cool and boost it so much to actually BRAG about your ignorance of Chicago and other cities and then come up with crap like KC and STL as rivals to it, and then you have some people who live in the REAL WORLD who are calling you out on your twisted reality, which is NOT REALITY.
pottebaum January 1st, 2006, 07:18 AM SILVERLAKE, in terms of importance, LA and Chicago are rivals... So, no, Chicago is not in the same league as Kansas City..and no, LA is not in the same league as New York, London, Tokyo, or Paris.
It's not about Los Angeles or Chicago; it's about reality. ;)
FROM LOS ANGELES January 1st, 2006, 07:59 AM Damn, why is there more Chicago forumers posting here than LA ones? You guys need to mind your own business. Ir you guys weren't here, we would not have had this mess at all. You guys are weird because you care more about arguing with us than minding your own business'. :weirdo: LA forumers :stupid:
pottebaum January 1st, 2006, 08:02 AM I don't live in Chicago! :nono:
Although I don't think I've said anything you should take any offense at..

Ir you guys weren't here, we would not have had this mess at all. You guys are weird because you care more about arguing with us than minding your own business'. :weirdo: LA forumers :stupid:
This isn't about Chicago or LA, this is about ignorant, stupid comments. We are all Americans and if you make an ignorant comment about your VERY OWN COUNTRY (i.e., KC and STL as Chicago's rivals, etc.), I feel we have a duty to correct each other and learn from each other. Don't you think?
FROM LOS ANGELES January 1st, 2006, 08:12 AM Why can't somepeople just let the people say their ignorant comments and ignore them. That's what I would do, instead of correcting them time after time.
yoyoniner January 1st, 2006, 08:18 AM ^
You're right. But it would be nice if LA forumers like you looked out for your fellow LA residents in here like Silverlake and Ferneyism who seem completely and utterly clueless of the outside world.
saiholmes January 1st, 2006, 07:08 PM Only chicago people come to LA. Even on internet.
yoyoniner January 1st, 2006, 07:29 PM You are right saiholmes, ONLY Chicago people come to LA. :bash:
I can see we're way out of our league here with guys like Saiholmes, Silverlake, Vanstripp and Ferneyism who by the sounds of it have never left southern california. Where are the well grounded and well travelled LA forumers? To be honest I think a lot of guys like me, WHO TAKE AN INTEREST IN LA and places outside of my city because I love to travel, which is why I read this forum, post in here to try to help these guys broaden their world a little bit if they see some foolish comments, or comments where the root of pride covers up reality for some people. I believe that's why you'd see other Chicago forumers in here. This is a well travelled and cultured city that loves to learn of new places. But when people in this city encounter ignorance, we'll correct it. In real life, outside of internet forums, people are actually very cool about it. If I ran into Silverlake in a bar and he made the same comments he was making in here and I corrected him, I'm sure we would have a cool conversation and he'd probably book a ticket to Chicago a month later. But on an internet forum it just doesn't work that way because everything is done in a public way and you have to act like the tough guy, when in reality people are usually pretty cool face to face. And in real life you don't have guys like ferneyism and vanstripp who come in and try and laugh at you because you are poor or have no friends and that helps them explain why you are standing up for the reality of what Chicago is? That's the Internet. It's become a joke in many ways.
I see a lot more bashing of Chicago than of LA in this thread. Read through it, the proof is in the pudding. The least these guys could do is get with reality and at least admit Chicago as a city is a rival to LA, because that is the reality of their very own country that they live in.
SNL January 1st, 2006, 07:38 PM SilverFAKE has been shunned by society. you can tell from the way he/she responds. what a fantasy world some la folk must live in. what a pathetic life to lead. they believe they are a star themselves because all they witness is that Hollywood fakeness day in and day out. if you want to be real, stay out of la.
SNL January 1st, 2006, 07:40 PM I have a good feeling Silverfake is one of the many bums in downtown la who uses the la library's computer during the day and has to find a nice box to sleep in at night. you're not a celeb silverfake, get over it!
SILVERLAKE January 1st, 2006, 07:46 PM SilverFAKE has been shunned by society. you can tell from the way he/she responds. what a fantasy world some la folk must live in. what a pathetic life to lead. they believe they are a star themselves because all they witness is that Hollywood fakeness day in and day out. if you want to be real, stay out of la.
Why is hollywood fake? The entertainment industry is real. It's huge. It provides 10,000s of jobs. It draws people to LA from worldwide. It generates so much creativity, and any big city would kill to have it!
Everybody is somebody in LA.
pottebaum January 1st, 2006, 07:48 PM Don't throw out personal insults, SNL..

CarsonCaliBrotha January 1st, 2006, 07:51 PM Why is hollywood fake? The entertainment industry is real. It's huge. It provides 10,000s of jobs. It draws people to LA from worldwide. It generates so much creativity, and any big city would kill to have it!

You are right, but you take it a step further and act like you are a star for seeing one, when in reality these are just people who have a job like you and me. They are 100% human just like you and me, and just as important. The only difference is one has a job that is more visible than the other.
I think Hollywood presents a fakeness to the vast majority of people in this country because it sells itself while not acknowledging anything else, and it rubs off on people. Read this: http://www.rateitall.com/i-8379-los-angeles-ca.aspx
That opinion of its "fakeness" is shared by many, many people in this country. I think because most people know the root of the desire of "celebrity" is insecurity, and beauty is seriously only skin deep. Most people also realize that these "superstars" are not stars in real life. They can almost never hold a successful marriage, they are consistently reportedly very depressed, the frequency of drug abuse is much higher, the divorce rate is higher, and the suicide rate is much higher. This is not a "group" that we should be looking up to by any means, which is why people use the term "fake" since if you actually look up to these people, you are swindled by something very shallow, as the smiles and cameras on the television, when in REALITY, the non-fake non-TV world, these people are anything but model citizens, in general.
A perfect example of Hollywood fakeness was last night on TV. You have LA and NY new year's eve parties on the major networks. Makes sense because that is where media is headquartered. That's the TV world, the centers of the parties last night for those who live in TV land was NY and LA. But in the real world, the #1 and #2 destination this year for New Year's Eve was Chicago and Orlando (http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/12-27-2005/0004239818&EDATE=). And the fakeness of Hollywood is that they would probably never acknowledge this because it doesn't sell themselves enough. So therefore, you get a "fake reality" if you live by the television.

I know that most people from Rateitall are just bunch of nonsense, anti-LA comment, republican biased, ignorant and haven't been in LA before. Honestly, You need visit SSP that where most people are talking like trust about rest of California and less troll compared to SSC. Hollywood isn't fake place visit, Hollywood has ALOT of nice destinations to visit, of course there's celebrities, just like place as in Time Square in NYC and Hollywood has alot of great job with options. There's too many thing to do but much more to do in other place than Hollywood. That's fine if you want believe everyone from Rateitall but I don't trust this site, they are acting like joke and crazy.
One thing to tell you, you must visit LA yourself and you will find out many thing to do. Don't argue with Silverlake and other LA forumers that who is offensive at you.
yoyoniner January 1st, 2006, 09:37 PM ^
I read SSP regularly. So do pretty much all of the Chicago forumers here. The REASON you don't see Chicago forumers post in the California forums at SSP is because you NEVER, EVER see the California forumers there bash Chicago, and act like it is any less than the world-class city it is.
LANative January 1st, 2006, 10:37 PM Yoyoniner, I agree with all of your comments here. And your right about SSP, you hardly see any L.A.forumers there talk about Chicago or any city for that matter.

Wow this cat is still here from yesterday,
As I see he really had nothing plan for New Years, figures. Anyhow, I can not believe people are still trying to give him an explanation. Why bother he's no one special, he think he is with his "let's all just think alike attitude". Well buddy it doesn't work that way, what's wrong for you, might not be wrong for me or others. I would think someone with a salary like yours would be off line having the time of your life in your Porsche or something. Maybe even traveling, since it seems many of us LA forumer's don't..... What's this world coming to, So you can continue bashing me and my LA Comrades as much as you want. What you really need is a pen pal or a significant other to entertained. Since you like typing a whole lot of nonsence and no one is really paying attention but those who are like you, better yet your followers, a couple in this thread, Is that what you really want for people to praise & glorified you or something. Sorry buddy not some of us. You pretty highjacked this thread and made all about you and your "ideal life". Well I am one who has some plans for this fun New Years weekend, Type away your "novels" who are more hilarious than truthful. Hope the rest of us can continue on other more important topics concerning this great metropolis...... Everyone hope you had a chill of a New Years and keeps on partying.

nygirl January 2nd, 2006, 12:31 AM US Angelinos don't hate Chicago. We just don't see it as on the same tier as we are, that's all..
Too much smog, it's shrinking your brains.. I suppose you think Chicago is beneath you? You do realize this is chicago we are talking about and not peoria, or des moines? How on earth can you see chicago as anything less than you're equal? What the fuck do you actually think makes you so special? Palm tree's and ski lifts? Or is it the amaco stations plastic surgically attached to your necks instead of a normal head.
LA has the allure of Paris, London, Hong Kong etc.... How exactly is Los Angeles being mentioned in the same sentance with Paris and London? California dreamin.
A place where anything can happen, where the beautiful person behind those big sunglasses just might be famous. No offense, That's just how we see it, and how most everyone sees it.]
Most everyone my ass. People generally don't think like movie narrators...
We don't have any beef with Chicago as you can see how we never are in the Chicago forum, but a lot of Chicagoans and rare people from other cities (like DC) that are Chicago boosters are starting Chicago-LA fights all the time in threads only to discuss LA issues..
Because it's entertainment, and when true la la's like yourself post comedy, it's feeding time.

300, your over reacting bro, If you start from the beginning of this thread. You will noticed that Silver was just being called out by everyone. After this thread was brought back to life, he pretty much had to defend himself from all accusations made towards him. 1. You apparently didn't read much in this thread.
2. You do realize that you have reduced yourself to actually making fun of people who are poor and not very fortunate. That's really wonderful. And all for what.... because I said Silverlake's comments were ignorant?
3. What do you do for a living and how much do you make? Why do I get the feeling that you yourself, the very person making fun of people who may be less fortunate, can't afford to buy your own place in LA and are currently living off of mommy and daddy? Am I totally off base?

You realize that you are defending truly RIDICULOUS comments. I guess misery loves company. You are going to fight an uphill battle because no reasonable person in here is going to defend you besides friends like vanstripp whose supporting arguments are that we can't afford to live in LA (?) and have no friends (?) which is not only totally absurd but it has nothing to do with the argument. What type of person makes fun of someone for being less fortunate anyway? I have never even been in the presence of someone who sneered at someone because they were poor--I thought people like that existed only in the movies. And here we have two people in here doing just that. And all for what?

Let me get this straight, you are blaming me for making fun of the less fortunate. That's the silliest thing I've ever heard. Have you not read any other thread to know where I even stand with those less fortunate. Mine was a question towards you for the simple fact I met individuals who struck out here in LA. The usual not discover or simple could not afford it for what ever reason. So they start to dizz and you know the rest. Then here you came in thinking you where an LAPD or something busting balls. For a minute I thought you where a Chicagoan or something. Also about this been a battle, what battle is a forum where you discuss and share opinions, I don't expect you agree, I just want to clear my name on the less fortunate topic. On a lighter not every personal attack towards has no negative affect. So you can continue all the bashing as you pleased. I'm not going to waste my time with this matter anymore.

If you Angelenos just stopped feeding him, all our problems would be over.

I don't care what these guys say!!!! they can bash me all day long :bash: :bash: :bash:
Chicago may be a world class city. It may be a great city. I just don't think it is a much of a mover and playa as LA on the world scene. We are the future! We sit on the edge of a continent. A land of light dreams and motion. The Coast is always changing.

Yeah, I know.
This guy had been here for long time but never bother me, kinda annoying about bashing on LA. Just don't create another thread and ignore him then he will gone soon.

Oh for God's sake. Explain to me why LA is a more important player on the world scene than Chicago is. People wouldn't get so pissed at your, SILVERLAKE, if you backed up your claims once in a while.

edsg25 January 5th, 2006, 04:41 PM OK, LA, if you refuse to stop feeding him, how about a mussle and a leash to keep him under control?
I'm not sure silverlake gets it: of course LA is a great city. it would be ludicrous to think otherwise. but other cities, like Chicago and New York, are also great. It doesn't have to be about the competiton; each can be appreciated for what it uniquely has to offer.
I can't imagine a greater disservice to LA that the type of defensive feeling silverlake exhibits that is so offensive. It's like, many of the rest of us think LA is a better place than he does because we wouldn't have a need to defend it.
another note on the Chicago/LA bull shit here: Chgo and LA have had a long hisgtory of being intertwined and involved with each other. If you get off the often toxic atmosphere of this board, you find plenty of Chicagoans and Angelenos who like each other's cities.
If we must keep it competitve, why not shoot for it being a discussion about the possiblity of another Sox-Angel ALCS or (if we really have a sense of humor) a Cub-Dodger NLCS.
