gotta love it. 10/10
d_mexx December 19th, 2002, 04:24 AM love pittsburg!!!!!!!!
8/10:D
Steely Dan December 19th, 2002, 05:50 AM this is a skyline that just works. the rivers, the hills, the bridges, the goddamn buildings. it's not quite in NYC or HK leagues in terms of size, but what it's got works beautifully with its geography. it also helps that its tallest, USX, is one of my absolute favorites of all time, anwhere.
pittsburgh is a textbook example of how you don't need the absolute biggest skyline in the world to be amazingly beautiful.
8/10
Pablo December 19th, 2002, 08:27 AM pittsburg, quite nice city......there r soooo many bridge crossing into downtown ya:?
MrTall December 19th, 2002, 08:30 AM Absolutely love the density. It's a total mish-mash of buildings in the CBD. 8/10
Irish Blood English Heart December 19th, 2002, 11:57 PM absolutely wonderful, one of the best american skylines i cant help but love it 8/10

yeah, there are quite a bit of bridges.
X-seed 4000 December 20th, 2002, 06:43 AM At first sight, the city's skyline looks as if it belonged to a city of a much larger population! Pittsburgh is one hell of a city! And its skyline isn't too bad ;) 8.0/10!
DrumCorpsAlum December 20th, 2002, 09:48 AM 9/10. This skyline is well balanced. It combines a nice mix of old and new, flat and gloss, different colors, and different heights, roof and pinnacle types, and other things. The hill behind it, river, and bridges give it not only variety, but balance. Definately an emerald city look to it. A dense little cluster of buildings is what this is, not spread out at all. The PPG place tower just adds so much to this skyline, like it was built just for a skyline. This is what a city should look like, your stereotypical view of a nice, and nice looking American city.
Addition: For a city of this size, and this many buildings, instead of the buildings being all spread out, and a bunch of low rises here and there, they build just a few tall ones, which looks so much better. Other cities, take note!
Rainier Meadows December 22nd, 2002, 01:18 AM This skyline is one of my favorite in the country - one of the best clusters of towers around! 8.5/10
Jeff from Winnipeg December 22nd, 2002, 02:30 AM Good density, diversity of structures. All the bridges are cool too. I like this one! ->8.5/10
SUNNI December 26th, 2002, 03:54 AM old+new=nice
5+5=10
Westin Peachtree December 26th, 2002, 04:12 AM Nice, dense skyline. The tallest building and PPG really make me take some points away though. It kinda ruins it for me. I see 2 fugly towers and 2 great towers. All in all, it is a dense skyline on a waterfront. I'll give ya some points! :)
parody24 January 4th, 2003, 11:20 AM Pittsburgh is one of my favorite cities in the Eastern USA.
It's such a pretty setting with a very impressive skyline.
I give it an 8.5/10.
Truly a gem that more Americans need to know about.
Blah January 4th, 2003, 05:02 PM Nice and compact. Quite a nice setting as well.

thats ok I respect your opinion...:)
Eddy January 7th, 2003, 05:55 PM I really like it 8.5/10!
gothicform January 7th, 2003, 06:33 PM i dont rate skylines so much on height as on diversity so i cant but help agree more about the old and new mixtures, it looks great. this is the sort of city i love, one with character and a real blend and its geographical location just adds to the appeal more. 8.5 from me.
renell January 31st, 2003, 10:43 PM 8. better than most US skylines that are dominated by boxes
Monkey March 29th, 2003, 08:07 AM I say! A bit small, but nice & compact, wonderful variety! 7.5
weirdo April 5th, 2003, 08:41 PM some buildings arent too tall. mostly boxy but nice greenery, bridges, location. so generally pittsburgh is beautiful. more charming than l.a. IMO. 8.5
Evergrey April 6th, 2003, 05:48 AM Perhaps a bit of bias here... but I give it a 10. It's my favorite skyline... I can never tire of looking at it. Has a few wonderful skyscrapers... such as the gothic PPG Place. And it has great density. The location of this city is truly special. The point, the rivers, the hills, the trees. It's breathtaking.

That pretty much sums it up for me. It's simply a gorgeous cityn and I just realized it, looking at those images. Just like San Francisco, Vancouver, Seattle, Hong Kong, and Rio, it works because of the surrounding terrain. The skyline would be a boring cluster of buildings in a northeastern state, if not for the riparian influence. Im loving the river banks and and the multiple bridges criss-crossing it. The first image reminds me of some sort of skyscraper heaven, where the good skyscrapers go, with the rainbow and misty atmosphere. Wow, I really am impressed. 10/10 without a doubt.

Labrador July 19th, 2003, 12:28 PM 8.5/10
I like the skyline. The skyscraper with raised corners(to the left of the picture posted by herodotus) is very unusual, and looks good on the skyline :)
UrbanLandscape August 8th, 2003, 12:25 PM It's one of the only tens I've ever handed out, along with Hong Kong, NYC, and Chicago. Anyway, if my picture host ever decides to work properly, I'll have buttloads of PGH photos to put up! Yay!
cincyimages August 8th, 2003, 04:45 PM Love Pitt's skyline and now that I live in Cincy, I hope to get there.
8.5/10

trussedtube November 29th, 2003, 09:31 PM An often-overlooked gem. Dense and diverse, and the riverfront setting/bridges and surrounding hills respectively frame the skyline and give it a backdrop like few other cityscapes.
The first time I viewed it in person, I was literally blown away -- I guess I just wasn't prepared to expect something so stunning.
8.5/10.
jtown, man November 29th, 2003, 11:11 PM I LOVE pittsburgh. Its the most awesome mix ive seen yet. 9/10. I cant beleive its losing population..crazy.
drain December 17th, 2003, 07:05 PM This city really grabs you, and the more you look at it, the more you love it. It's quite an eclectic mix. To top it off, the view from Mt. Washington of the city was rated as the 2nd best view in the country by USA Today--that speaks volumes. 10/10
james2390 December 18th, 2003, 02:03 AM cool skyline, 7.5
SeeMacau December 27th, 2003, 05:47 PM Dense skyline with some nice scrapers !!

PegRules04 January 12th, 2004, 03:14 AM Awesome! Love the density downtown. I'll have to rate it a 8.5.
Blackbelt Jones May 4th, 2004, 10:34 PM My wife and I took a weekend trip to the Pitt, and we were floored at just how nice of a skyline it really is.... keep in mind that Pitt has a population of only 350,000! The downtown is in a vally, so you can actully take an incline up to any of the surrounding hills and be eye level with the skyline! Great stuff!
For its size, I give it a 10.

Mr. T May 4th, 2004, 11:41 PM Most people don't know Pittsburgh has a population of under 400,000. The skyscrapers make it look like a huge city. In D.C. we are the 7th largest city in the U.S. with almost 600,000 people in the city and 5 million if you include the metropolitan area but people think were a small town since we have no scrapers. It's kind of funny actually. Anyways Pittsburgh has transformed from a industrial steal city to a really nice modern city.
thefactor2004 May 4th, 2004, 11:46 PM PGH has a nice skyline. The PPG Building is one of my favorites (thats the one with the castle-like top).
Jive May 4th, 2004, 11:47 PM Yeah, the skyline of Pittsburgh is magnificent, one of the most underated. I've been there and was amazed. I wasn't expecting a New York, nor a Chicago, but for quite a small population, it's downtown is larger in comparison to cities with similar population. Better than Philadelphia in my own opinion.
Blackbelt Jones May 5th, 2004, 12:10 AM PGH has a nice skyline. The PPG Building is one of my favorites (thats the one with the castle-like top).

shibbie June 6th, 2004, 02:50 AM Awesome skyline. I've always liked the PPG bldg. Love the rivers, the hills, the bridges. This is what St.Paul could look like with a few more additions. Probably my favorite of all US cities behind Chicago. Can't remember what they call the area where the 3 rivers converge? Golden Triangle I believe. 10/10
CapitalCityCharlesto June 13th, 2004, 03:19 AM Beautiful skyline, I'm a huge Steeler's fan, and I can tell you it's one of the most beautiful cities in America. I give it a 10/10.
Schroedinger's Cat June 13th, 2004, 01:44 PM so dense and I like its location 9/10
likestheaction June 15th, 2004, 06:53 AM Gorgeous city. The newly renovated North Shore where I live has really developed nicely. Hopefully we'll get a few large resedential towers downtown someday.....It looks nice, but a lot of work needs to be done to make it vibrant once again.
NWside June 15th, 2004, 08:34 AM Who are these people that always vote 3 or less on a skyline that doesnt deserve less then a 8. I give it a 9.

detroitboy04 June 17th, 2004, 11:42 PM Beautiful skyline, if (when) the city of Pittsburgh merges to form a larger city. This is a good skyline for a big city. Haven't you heard that Pittsburgh's population is dropping a lot and is going to merge with another county. Like LOUISVILLE did!!
jeremy stephens June 18th, 2004, 01:25 AM 3/10 its so plain and needs taller skyscrapers can everyone who posted please email me:jrog042003@yahoo.com pleasee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tazmaniadevil August 1st, 2004, 05:10 AM 8.5 If you've never been to Pittsburgh, be sure and enter the city from the west through the tunnel under the hill to the Pitt bridge. The city literally explodes in front of you as you come out of the tunnel.

Yuck!!!!!!
Flatiron August 2nd, 2004, 07:35 PM Yuck? Henry Hobson Richardson, Phillip Johnson, SOM, the US Steel Building, George B. Post, D. H. Burnham, Henry Hornbostel, incomparable bridges and North America's most compact downtown after Boston, Montreal and NYC?
Are you mad or just sleeping off a fun night?
twincities03 August 2nd, 2004, 09:22 PM Great skyline. 7 / 10

It just pops right out of the hills. If this city had a coast it would look like Seattle. Its almost exactly how a city should be built. 10/10 for sure

Jaybird March 16th, 2005, 04:52 PM Great heightage, and awesome density, not to mention surrounded by rivers galore, I give it a 9.5/10. Looks more like a mini-Boston or New York to me, and, indeed, looks like a much larger city than its city population says, but maybe right for its metro of over 2,000,000.
Harkeb March 17th, 2005, 01:02 PM Absolutely perfect skyline for a nice size city. I'd prefer a city like this than a monstrous New York style town. The greenery in and around the city is beautiful.

Nouvellecosse June 16th, 2005, 04:07 PM A beautiful combination of city and setting. May be the most attractive inland setting I've ever seen. In fact it's hard not to be jealous. I rate this city as high as San Fran, Seattle, and Boston, my other U.S. favs. 9.5
P.S. I loved its cameo in Inspector Gadget. That was the first time I realized that Pitt is much more impressive than the pictures I had seen let on.

I love how Pittsburgh's downtown is dense, bold and brash -- very vibrant feel to its CBD on weekdays. (I love how the majority of outlying city there makes me feel like I've stepped into it during the 1930s -- fascinating experience....)

sc4 April 7th, 2006, 11:08 AM Awesome skyline. I've always liked the PPG bldg. Love the rivers, the hills, the bridges. This is what St.Paul could look like with a few more additions. Probably my favorite of all US cities behind Chicago. Can't remember what they call the area where the 3 rivers converge? Golden Triangle I believe. 10/10
Three Point Park/Point Park
sc4 April 7th, 2006, 11:14 AM Yuck? Henry Hobson Richardson, Phillip Johnson, SOM, the US Steel Building, George B. Post, D. H. Burnham, Henry Hornbostel, incomparable bridges and North America's most compact downtown after Boston, Montreal and NYC?
Are you mad or just sleeping off a fun night?
Ditto! Ditto! Ditto! and Ditto! to all the above!
vishalt April 7th, 2006, 11:27 AM pittsburgh was rated as the top USA city in terms of livability in the last survey. looks nice!
Tom Ace April 7th, 2006, 12:45 PM I gave Pittsburgh a 8.5. There is alot of great unique architecture but the biggest building doesn't stand out like it should. I love the scenery of nature around it and the density is great though. I reserve 10s for the best of the best (NY and Chi, ect.) so getting a 8.5 is really like a 9.5 from me.

Middle-Island March 9th, 2007, 07:34 AM this is a skyline that just works. the rivers, the hills, the bridges, the goddamn buildings. it's not quite in NYC or HK leagues in terms of size, but what it's got works beautifully with its geography. it also helps that its tallest, USX, is one of my absolute favorites of all time, anwhere.
pittsburgh is a textbook example of how you don't need the absolute biggest skyline in the world to be amazingly beautiful.
