this is a skyline that just works. the rivers, the hills, the bridges, the goddamn buildings. it's not quite in NYC or HK leagues in terms of size, but what it's got works beautifully with its geography. it also helps that its tallest, USX, is one of my absolute favorites of all time, anwhere.

pittsburgh is a textbook example of how you don't need the absolute biggest skyline in the world to be amazingly beautiful.

At first sight, the city's skyline looks as if it belonged to a city of a much larger population! Pittsburgh is one hell of a city! And its skyline isn't too bad ;) 8.0/10!

9/10. This skyline is well balanced. It combines a nice mix of old and new, flat and gloss, different colors, and different heights, roof and pinnacle types, and other things. The hill behind it, river, and bridges give it not only variety, but balance. Definately an emerald city look to it. A dense little cluster of buildings is what this is, not spread out at all. The PPG place tower just adds so much to this skyline, like it was built just for a skyline. This is what a city should look like, your stereotypical view of a nice, and nice looking American city.

Addition: For a city of this size, and this many buildings, instead of the buildings being all spread out, and a bunch of low rises here and there, they build just a few tall ones, which looks so much better. Other cities, take note!

Nice, dense skyline. The tallest building and PPG really make me take some points away though. It kinda ruins it for me. I see 2 fugly towers and 2 great towers. All in all, it is a dense skyline on a waterfront. I'll give ya some points! :)

i dont rate skylines so much on height as on diversity so i cant but help agree more about the old and new mixtures, it looks great. this is the sort of city i love, one with character and a real blend and its geographical location just adds to the appeal more. 8.5 from me.

Perhaps a bit of bias here... but I give it a 10. It's my favorite skyline... I can never tire of looking at it. Has a few wonderful skyscrapers... such as the gothic PPG Place. And it has great density. The location of this city is truly special. The point, the rivers, the hills, the trees. It's breathtaking.

That pretty much sums it up for me. It's simply a gorgeous cityn and I just realized it, looking at those images. Just like San Francisco, Vancouver, Seattle, Hong Kong, and Rio, it works because of the surrounding terrain. The skyline would be a boring cluster of buildings in a northeastern state, if not for the riparian influence. Im loving the river banks and and the multiple bridges criss-crossing it. The first image reminds me of some sort of skyscraper heaven, where the good skyscrapers go, with the rainbow and misty atmosphere. Wow, I really am impressed. 10/10 without a doubt.

An often-overlooked gem. Dense and diverse, and the riverfront setting/bridges and surrounding hills respectively frame the skyline and give it a backdrop like few other cityscapes.

The first time I viewed it in person, I was literally blown away -- I guess I just wasn't prepared to expect something so stunning.

8.5/10.

My wife and I took a weekend trip to the Pitt, and we were floored at just how nice of a skyline it really is.... keep in mind that Pitt has a population of only 350,000! The downtown is in a vally, so you can actully take an incline up to any of the surrounding hills and be eye level with the skyline! Great stuff!

For its size, I give it a 10.

Most people don't know Pittsburgh has a population of under 400,000. The skyscrapers make it look like a huge city. In D.C. we are the 7th largest city in the U.S. with almost 600,000 people in the city and 5 million if you include the metropolitan area but people think were a small town since we have no scrapers. It's kind of funny actually. Anyways Pittsburgh has transformed from a industrial steal city to a really nice modern city.

Yeah, the skyline of Pittsburgh is magnificent, one of the most underated. I've been there and was amazed. I wasn't expecting a New York, nor a Chicago, but for quite a small population, it's downtown is larger in comparison to cities with similar population. Better than Philadelphia in my own opinion.

Awesome skyline. I've always liked the PPG bldg. Love the rivers, the hills, the bridges. This is what St.Paul could look like with a few more additions. I love Pitts skyline. A nice little treasure in nestled in the hills that is classy and dignified. Pitt doesn't try to be showy or flashy it just tries to offer good views and a nice atmosphere and does it very well.

I love how Pittsburgh's downtown is dense, bold and brash -- very vibrant feel to its CBD on weekdays. (I love how the majority of outlying city there makes me feel like I've stepped into it during the 1930s -- fascinating experience....)

Awesome skyline. I've always liked the PPG bldg. Love the rivers, the hills, the bridges. This is what St.Paul could look like with a few more additions. Probably my favorite of all US cities behind Chicago. Can't remember what they call the area where the 3 rivers converge? Golden Triangle I believe. 10/10

Are you mad or just sleeping off a fun night?

I gave Pittsburgh a 8.5. There is alot of great unique architecture but the biggest building doesn't stand out like it should. I love the scenery of nature around it and the density is great though. I reserve 10s for the best of the best (NY and Chi, ect.) so getting a 8.5 is really like a 9.5 from me.

One of my favorite things about Pittsburgh's skyline is that the view can seen from so many different angles thanks to the many hills.

this is a skyline that just works. the rivers, the hills, the bridges, the goddamn buildings. it's not quite in NYC or HK leagues in terms of size, but what it's got works beautifully with its geography. it also helps that its tallest, USX, is one of my absolute favorites of all time, anwhere.

pittsburgh is a textbook example of how you don't need the absolute biggest skyline in the world to be amazingly beautiful.
