THAI AIRWAYS International will make aviation history from the start of May by starting an ultra long-haul non-stop flight from Bangkok to New York. Kanok Aphiradee, the president of the airline, told Business Day: “This is exciting and challenging for us. It will be the first superlong flight for us from Bangkok, using the new Airbus 340-500 series aircraft.

“It is also an entry into a highly competitive market. But we believe that the package we are offering will turn people’s heads round because we think we have an exciting programme.”

The flight will take about 17 hours and will leave Bangkok every day except Monday shortly after midnight, to arrive at New York’s JF Kennedy airport at 6.35am the same day. Return flights will leave Kennedy at 12 noon and reach Bangkok in the late afternoon a day later at 4.00pm.

The national carrier believes it has designed a competitive package. Instead of cramming the aircraft with seats, the New York flight will have no first class seats but 60 business class seats, 49 premium economy and just 113 economy class seats. If it wanted to cram passengers in, it would be able to carry about 300 passengers in economy. TG executives say that the business class seats and service will be of such a high standard that it will be almost equivalent to first class, but at business class prices.

The airline is also working on special promotional fares, at least for the first two months, of around 35,000 baht round-trip in economy. Such a low price would be specially good value for money, a bargain compared, say, to current bucketshop fares of more than 50,000 baht for a flight on an American carrier that stops at least in Tokyo and takes almost 24 hours. “We hope to win some business from our friends,” added Kanok.

The CEO also admitted that the US offered a special challenge because of the airline’s unhappy experiences in the American market. It used to fly to several points in the US and maintained expensive offices there. “We made a lot of mistakes,” said Kanok, “and then we pulled back completely except for San Francisco.”

Under Kanok, who came to the airline with a marketing rather than an aviation background, Thai International has put great efforts into promotion and marketing. It has persuaded all its 15 partner airlines in the Star Alliance to show a documentary film called Happiness Thailand on their inflight entertainment systems starting next week. The film will be shown on airlines that operate 14,000 flights per day to 772 destinations in 133 countries and will point to five different attractions that Thailand offers: friendly people, superb food, natural beauty, relaxing mood, and the taste of paradise on the beaches. Star Alliance carriers include Air Canada, Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, LOT of Poland, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines and United Airlines.

Kanok hopes that the showing of the film on so many airlines round the world now will help to remind potential tourists of the many exciting holidays that Thailand offers and will be an important part of the campaign to woo back visitors after the tsunami disaster. The CEO and the airline won plaudits for their tireless work after the disaster, and Kanok himself spent more than a week in Phuket directing the efforts.

From this week until the end of March, Thai International has announced special promotional fares within Thailand to Krabi, Phuket and Trang, with discounts of 30 to 50 percent on flights and hotel packages.

A380 may not be flying for such long-haul while in non-stop direct flight service

Only A340-500 can be flying for such distance until B777-200ER being launched to the market as the longest cruisng aircraft in the world

30 min to one hr longer than A340-500 , total of 19hrs is allowed for each single flight sector

A380 would be implied for some routes of non-directly flight across Pacific ocean that pretty

THAI Receives Plaque from WHO for Excellent In-Cabin Management of Hygienic Systems

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited was awarded a plaque from the World Health Organization (WHO) for excellent in-cabin management of hygienic systems, in Geneva, Switzerland, recently.

Mr. Kanok Abhiradee, THAI’s President, said that the World Health Organization (WHO) presented THAI with a plaque commending the airline for implementing excellent in-cabin management of hygienic systems, during a plaque presentation ceremony that took place in Geneva, Switzerland. THAI’s employees are very honored that the airline has been recognized with such a prestigious award, which is the first award of this kind to be presented to a private organization by the WHO; THAI is the first company to receive this award. THAI received this award due to introduction of preventive SARS measures that the airline has continually implemented following the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak. In addition, the airline was commended for the creation of its Biological Outbreak Operation Manual, being the first airline in the world to introduce such a manual.

THAI introduced various preventive measures to guard against the spread of SARS that includes aviation measures such as spraying Ecotru 1453, thoroughly cleaning all in-cabin aircraft equipment or facilities at 36 touch points, inspection of aircraft air circulation systems, changing air filters prior to expiry, and more. THAI was also commended for its inflight measures, air crew and cabin crew measures. As for measures to guard against the spread of SARS, THAI inspected hygiene levels in raw materials and production processes, so that passengers may remain confident in consumption of meals made from poultry that were produced by THAI Catering.

Currently, THAI has implemented “The Most Hygienic In-Cabin Environment” program stressing the importance of hygiene in the passenger cabin, which includes food safety, importance of cleanliness, with all THAI employees continuously implementing these procedures through to present, and serves as another program that the WHO praised the airline for introducing.

In addition, during December 2004, Dr. Anarfi Asamoa-Baah, Assistant Director-General, Communicable Diseases, World Health Organization, traveled to Thailand to attend a briefing on the various measures THAI implemented and observed activities at THAI’s Crisis Management Operations Center that coordinates crises with various functions both inside and outside of the company whenever incidents occur that effect the company.

The WHO’s recognition of THAI’s efforts serves as evidence that its passengers are confident in THAI, taking action in the facilitation of every concern and need. This includes implementation of preventive measures in the area of public health, evident from commendation that THAI has received from the WHO.

yes, I think that it will come relatively soon :) now that TG is getting four (4) new long range A340s in 2005-06 and probably seven (7) more A340s and/or long range Boeing Dreamliners (B787s) in 2007-2008 period.

The seats on the older TG B747s are also being upgraded.

I flew on TG (older B747 with oldest seat configuration "744") on First Class (with an upgrade :tongue2: ) from Bangkok to LAX (stopping in Tokyo) and it was GREAT for food (buffet style with unlimited cavier (my favorite) and other goodies) and comfort (but the little video machines for movies were weird). On the new First Class or Business Class Silk seats with new in-flight entertainment, it will even be BETTER!! (and non-stop direct, the best :okay: )

TG is WAY WAY better (especially with new seats and planes and much better and friendly service :) ) than any American airline....the only real competitors will be top top class Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines.

I just got off TG 993 from BKK to SYD. I seriouslly think they need to do something about the interiors of their planes. The service from the aircrew was really good but the seats and the in flight entertainment (or lack thereof) were really crappy.

flight TG993 is on a Boeing 747 (but with the oldest 744 seat configuration) ...I've taken that flight a few times just to visit friends and play Black Jack in that cool casino you got in Sydney...Last time I was lucky enough to pay for the airfare and shopping! :nocrook:

The service from the TG crew is always good (and really is superior to the service on American and European airlines). For the seats, the upper deck in Business class is actually not too bad in comfort (and of course seats in First class in the nose of the plane are fat, cushy, velvety and comfy), but you are right the in-flight entertainment is bad on that oldest seat configuration....(I have never tried economy seats in the back area on the TG B747s (but everyone tells me they are roomier and better value than the economy seats on Singapore Airlines --but no TV screen on back of seat).

However, I dont think you have tried the TG B747 flights (which are mainly to Europe) they are much better in seats and systems....

BUT anyway TG is revamping the interiors of ALL of their in service B747s (starting with the oldest ones) so I think they will leap ahead in interiors (from the present interiors) and probably even excel more in their service...then it will be super great :)

(By the way, because everyone was talking about better interiors and seats on Lufthansa, so last December I tried a Lufthansa flight to Manila in first class on upper deck of B747....yes... the seats were great and hi tech, but the service was so UNFRIENDLY and mean from grouchy very old scary German female prison guards :uh: (I think they are not allowed to smile or be nice because it is against the rules)..... that I would glady trade better Thai service and friendliness and smiles in exchange for those hi tech seats....BUT very soon TG will have new planes and new seats and interiors on the existing planes so it will be great on both counts..... :) )

Jo, on the current oldest seat configurations on TG, there are NO private TV screens (not even on the largest Boeing 747-400 models in First Class, Business Class and Economy Class)....you just have to watch whatever is playing on the front liitle movie screen (thats not good on a longer flight like from Bangkok to Sydney) (In First Class, they give you small wierd TV machines and give you a nice choice of movie cartridges)...DVDs dont work in those wierd machines....

on the newer existing TG seat configs in First and Business Class, there are little pop-up TVs at each seat :) and several movies and TV shows play and you can change the channels (in econ, no private TVs)

on the newest upgraded seat configurations (coming this year 2005) there will be hi-tech private TV screens on each seat (even in economy class!) and you can choose what program plays, when you want it to play and there are many more movies, TV shows, games, music choices etc.) :) :)

I also hope that they offer famous Thai foot, back and shoulder massages on board the flight just like they offer in the TG First Class and Business Class lounges at the Bangkok airport (for free!!) (I heard Virgin Airlines from England offers paid massages on board on their "Upper Class" areas on the plane :) )

gosh, I feel sorry for you if u must fly Aeroflot and those other horrible airlines....please try the world's greatest airlines (all from East Asia) of Singapore Air, Cathay Pacific and the newly improved Thai Airways!! (if you upgrade to Business or First, you will be spoiled and not want to go to other airlines or back to econ  use your frequent flyer milessss)

(I also heard that Emirates and Virgin and a few others are top notch too!)

well if its a longer flight and Im in econ, Id rather have SQ's entertainment system :) cause most times I just move my seat to an empty row and spread out

but if its a longer flight and you are able to upgrade to business class...do it...cause its really nice

If they put purple color on both sides (front and back) like this, it wont be so bad:

THAI Airways International Plc (THAI) is spending one billion baht in its ambitious plan to polish up its corporate image and restrengthen its competitiveness – which will also see the flag-carrier wearing a new logo – as it drives to rejuvenate itself ahead of the launch of the new Suvarnabhumi International Airport this September.
Kanok Abhiradee, the airline’s president, said he is trying his best position THAI to be the top-ranking commercial airliner in Asia, adding that he aims to see THAI soon taking the third-spot on the list of the world’s best airlines in terms of revenue generation, which is part of THAI’s ongoing policy to pursue excellence in service and raise its profitability.
As part of its image-boosting drive, THAI will be introducing its first-ever non-stop, long-haul service – the Bangkok-New York flight – on April 21, when it will commission the recently-imported Airbus- 340, according to Kanok.
He said, in April, THAI will also be adding Bangkok-Paris, Bangkok-Germany as well as Bangkok-Frankfurt flightss to its international network.
Kanok said as THAI attempts to brighten up its corporate image and reinforce its identity, it will focus on improving in-flight service quality and enhancing ground services before the launch of the new Bangkok international airport scheduled on September 29.
He said there will be a number of changes, which will include new-look uniforms, better in-flight facilities and services such as more comfortable seats, variety of news updates, state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment, etc.
THAI, he said, will have more efficient check-in counter services while there will be enhancements at THAI’s business-class lounges world to help promote the Kingdom’s rich culture.
”We have a lot to do before the deadline but we have decided to carry it all out simultaneously rather than taking gradual steps,” said Kanok.
“The tasks include changing the logo of the airline, employees’ uniforms and the look of its exterior, etc so as to rejuvenate THAI,” said Kanok.
Talking about market competitiveness, Kanok said its airfares will be certainly attractive, considering the upgrades being made to THAI, Kanok said.
He added that THAI’s airfares will be in the mid-range but the services and facilities it offers will be of top quality.

I think changing their logo is a bad idea.
Thai Airways has a pretty respectable reputation overseas and their logo is instantly recognisable as a quality product (not the best, but better than most).
I suppose they know what they are doing though.

THAI unveils new brand image

BUSRIN TREERAPONGPICHIT

http://www.bangkokpost.net/Business/080405_news6.jpg
An Airbus A340-500 bearing the new-look livery and destined to serve the new non-stop route to New York, is rolled out at Don Muang airport yesterday.

National flag carrier Thai Airways International yesterday unveiled a new brand image, featuring a corporate logo boasting a three-dimensional look with sharper, more distinctive colours, a more modern look at customer contact points and a 14-billion-baht aircraft renovation programme.

''We have used the same corporate image for over 24 years. It's time to change, to modernise our image to better reach our customers,'' said THAI president Kanok Abhiradee.

The rebranding includes an initial investment of 14 billion baht to refurbish 24 of the airline's top aircraft, featuring new livery, redesigned interior cabins and seat reallocations.

Inflight entertainment and other facilities will be completely modernised under the two-year programme, featuring the latest video-on-demand and entertainment technology.

THAI will upgrade its 14 Boeing 777-400 long-haul aircraft by itself, with changes to its 777-200 and 777-300 fleet outsourced. Changes include new recliner beds for first-class customers and the introduction of a new Royal Silk Class for business customers. New Airbus A340-500 and A340-600 aircraft scheduled for delivery this year will also feature the new design changes, including a new premium economy configuration.

The new design was on display yesterday on THAI's latest aircraft, a newly delivered A340-500 that will be used to fly the new 17-hour, non-stop direct route to New York starting on May 1.

The modifications to the first 24 aircraft were expected to be completed within two years, with the rest of the airline's 83-plane fleet to be changed afterwards.

The rebranding will also include new staff uniforms, redesigned passenger lounges and ticketing offices and other modifications. The aircraft will feature iridescent colours through the use of mica paint, a first for the industry. ''The new identity will focus on three concepts _ High Trust, World Class and Thai Touch,'' he said.

''The change will affect all customer touchpoints, and is aimed at maximising customer satisfaction with THAI in today's increasingly competitive market.''

UK-based Interbrand was retained in 2002 to advise on the rebranding programme in a $2.6-million contract.

Panya Vijintanasarn, a well-known Thai artist, was recruited to help develop a new graphic to be used to symbolise the ''Thai Touch''. Designer Pichitra Boonyarataphan of RTD Textile Industrial was retained to help draw up new uniform styles for flight attendants and other staff.

Mr Kanok said the changes would help THAI continue to grow in the international market, with revenues expected to rise to 230 billion baht by 2008 from an estimated 150-160 billion this year.

THAI reported net profits of 10 billion baht on revenues of 151 billion for fiscal 2004 ending last September. First-quarter profits for the period ending Dec 31 were 5.7 billion baht on revenues of 46 billion.

Shares of THAI closed yesterday on the Stock Exchange of Thailand at 46 baht, unchanged, in trade worth 67.3 million baht.

New interiors, logo for THAI

Kwanchai Rungfapaisarn

Thai Airways International Plc (THAI) unveiled a complete makeover of its corporate identity yesterday.

The new look includes a redesigned corporate logo and total refurbishment of its aircraft.

The airline’s new corporate logo sports a three-dimensional look and replaces the old logo, which had been used for more than 20 years.

More than Bt13 billion will be spent on refurbishing 24 aircraft in the next two years – new seats and entertainment systems will be draw cards.

And there will be fewer seats in the aircraft to enhance passenger comfort.

“We want to move away from the traditional platform of customer satisfaction to customer delight,” said Kanok Abhiradee, THAI’s president.

“We want to become a fun and festive airline,” he said.

He said the first aircraft sporting the new look was an Airbus A340-500, delivered yesterday. The Airbus A340-500 will be used on six weekly non-stop flights to New York, every Tuesday through Sunday. The flights start on May 1.

There are other planes set for a makeover, including THAI’s 777-200s, 777-300s and 777-400s, which fly from Bangkok to Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Kanok said that THAI’s new corporate identity revolved around three main ideals: “High Trust”, whereby THAI passengers trust the airline to deliver high safety standards, get them to their destinations on time and make sure they have a comfortable trip; “World Class”, an ambition to maintain a competitive edge over other airlines; and “Thai Touch”, providing maximum customer satisfaction and celebrating Thailand.

Kanok said the company had spent US$2.5 million (Bt99 million) to appoint Interbrand Co Ltd, a leading global brand consultant, to completely redesign THAI’s corporate identity.

“THAI’s brand is one of the most important assets it owns,” said Stuart Green, Asia Pacific director of Interbrand Co Ltd.

“As THAI’s markets experience rapid change with the growth of low-cost carriers, the new brand is an investment in THAI’s competitiveness as a premium, global airline, helping it become more focused on customers’ needs as it expands into new markets,” he said.

Kanok said THAI began corporate re-branding on August 28, 2002, once Interbrand had been chosen as a consultant. As THAI’s corporate re-branding consultant, Interbrand engaged the services of artist Ajarn Panya Vijintanasarn, whose portrayal of “Ayatana” communicated the importance of “six senses”: What one sees, tastes, smells, hears, touches, and feels in the heart.

It is not only on the aircraft that THAI has concentrated its efforts, as the national carrier is looking to better serve passengers from their very first point of contact, Kanok said. That means that the whole range of services, from reservations, call centre and ticketing, to website, advertising and promotional campaigns have been re-thought.

New uniforms have been created by well-known Thai designer Pichitra Boonyarataphan, whose designs are based on clothes worn in the Royal Palace and accessories worn in Thai classical dance. These designs were used in the uniforms to a achieve a sophisticated yet classic appearance unique to THAI, Kanok said.

Thai Airways to launch flight on Ctg-Bangkok-NY route on May 1
Wednesday April 20 2005 09:42:07 AM BDT

Thai Airways is going to launch its direct flight on Chittagong-Bangkok-New York route on May 1.

"The flights will be thrice a week-- Sunday, Wednesday and Friday. We will deploy Airbus 340-500 to carry passengers from Chittagong to New York with transit facility in Bangkok," Weerawat Swasdibutra, general manager of Thai Airways International, told a group of journalists at Chittagong Press Club yesterday.

Swasdibutra said the airline will charge US$1,150 as return fair for each ticket.

The existing flight between Chittagong-Chiangmai-Bangkok will continue operations offering more attractive packages, he said.
"The package tariff for Chittagong-Chiangmai-Bangkok route will be US$ 162 that covers hotel accommodation, complimentary breakfast and two-way transfer between airport and hotel," said Sheldon S Dcosta, the sales promotion officer.

I don't think it's that bad either. Although, the one design was more classic and timeless. This new design probably won't have the longevity the old one had. It is good to do some freshening up after all these years.

Does anyone know if they're going to install PTVs on their 744s? I have heard some comments by people saying yes, but other people claim that the 744 that was recently presented to the press (the one with the new color scheme) doesn't feature PTVs. I believe that it would be a huge mistake for Thai not to install PTVs on their B744 fleet and it will fall behid its competitors in the region. I have the impression that Thai is only giving priority to its premium passengers, but it may be wrong, though. Any updates on this issue will be appreciated. Thank you.

A brand-new, stylish corporate identity alone won't help Thai Airways compete with its neighbouring rivals, what really matters ahead is that the airline constantly delivers what it promises, in terms of safety, services and value. Moreover, THAI really needs innovation and the willingness to take risks, becoming the leading airline that pioneers new routes / destinations and dares to introduces novel in-flight services such as a wireless internet connection for all of its passengers.

By doing so, and in trying to enhance the level of services provided by flight attendants, i believe that THAI stands a very good chance of catching up with the other 2 giants, Cathay and SIA, reliving its old glorious days once again. As a frequent flyer with THAI, and as a Thai national, I hope that these hypes aren't just about new paints and unifroms, but they signify a new breath of life that is fast rejuvinating the airline, a new attitude in its working style and a bigger aspiration to be even better than before. Only with such that it can race to become the best world-class airline, and also a national carrier which all Thais would prefer to fly with.

The new livery for THAI looks ok imo, it's simplistic yet capture the elegance and the 'smooth as silk' feeling ;) (but is that livery design only for the route between Bangkok-New York?). Good thing that they have installed LCD for every seats. Now they only have to introduce new X-Box or PS2 games on-demand to compete with Krisworld's Nintendo and card games ;)

i personally dont like the new interior of this new livery. I think the color looks too outrageous like bubble gum. Maybe its in trend. By the way this is actually a good start for THAI as they installed loads of equipments and improved the seats.

Anyway, do u think the passengers normally care so much about the equipments on the plane? For me i personally care more about the length of the flight and its schedule.

Hitesh, the "darker blue" seats are in the first class section (they turn into flat beds) in the front part (nose) of the giant B747s :)

The "light blue" seats are the business class seats behind the first class section (and also on the second floor of the plane on B747s) The picture you posted is the second floor (upper deck) of a TG B747....I like this section best (after First Class section) because it feels like a luxurious private jet up there....

Of course First Class section in the nose is the ultimate!!! Just ten flat bed seats!!! with great buffet food on trollys whenever you want anything, pjs, private AVOD entertainment systems, etc. (the only bad thing is that the more cuter flight attendants are not in this section :(

The colorful "bubble gum" seats are in the back of the plane in economy (and premium economy).....I guess that they want to cheer up the people back there (and calm down the people in the front in First and Business class :) ).

:) believe me the First class seats are better cause they are mostly single standing instead of two-by-two (more privacy--unless traveling with a close honey) and they lie flat if you want to lie down and sleep on longer flight ,,,,,,business class seats become flat but at an angle so you sometimes slide alittle :)

You dont need to become banker yet just to ride in front of the plane....just save mileage when u fly econ (on all Star Alliance flights like Thai, Singapore, United, Lufthansa, All Nippon, etc.) and also use credit cards which give you mileage.....I have already taken three free flights with mileage points this year in business class!! If you fly routes like Australia to Thailand often you get great miles points in no time :)

Thai carriers make world rankings

Three Thai carriers _ Thai Airways International, Bangkok Airways and Nok Air _ were counted among the world's best airlines in 2005 in a survey involving more than 12 million passengers by the research firm Skytrax.

The recognition was the first for budget carrier Nok Air, and only the second for Bangkok Airways, which ranked first among Asian regional carriers.

But national carrier Thai Airways, traditionally ranked among the leading airlines in the world, saw its position fall from fifth last year to seventh for 2005 (see table).

THAI was also behind Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines among best airlines in Southeast Asia. In that category, Malaysia Airlines placed first, Singapore Airlines second and THAI third.

THAI executives yesterday acknowledged the airline's fall in the rankings, but noted the survey was conducted before the airline implemented its 10-billion-baht makeover.

Sunathee Isvarphonchai, vice-president for public relations, expressed confidence that the airline would move up in the next Skytrax listing.

``We conceded that we were not as good as we would like to be. But things are changing now as we are able to remove constraints that bogged down our passenger improvement effort. We are in a much better position to compete with others now in terms of passengers appeal,'' she said.

Over the past several years, THAI has struggled unsuccessfully to regain past glory as one of the world's top three airlines. Budget constraints, internal politics, the lack of visionary management, poor staff morale and bureacracy have taken a toll on THAI's appeal to passengers, observers have said and written in recent years.

The airline has even downgraded its corporate objective, first from being ``one of the world's top-three airlines'' to ``one of the world's top-five airlines,'' and then to just ``the first choice carrier with the touch of Thai,'' the catchline that was introduced nearly two years ago when Thanong Bidaya, now commerce minister, was the airline chairman.

But the fact THAI has managed to stay in the Skytrax top 10 shows to many that the airline remains better than hundreds of others around the world.

For its part, Bangkok Airways kept its ranking as the best regional airline of Asia for the second consecutive year, ahead of Singapore's SilkAir and Air Macau.

M..L. Nandhika Varavarn, vice-president for corporate communications at Bangkok Airways, said the award reflected the airline's strategic positioning as ``Asia's Boutique Airline''.

Though it was set up slightly over a year ago, budget carrier Nok Air, owned partly by THAI, wound up third among low-fare airline in Asia, behind Malaysia's Air Asia and ValuAir of Singapore.

The schedules are as follows:
TG 795 146 LAX BKK 2230 0701+2 Nonstop 17h 31m
TG 794 146 BKK LAX 2030 2010 Nonstop 14h 40m

The other days Thai will send the B744 via Osaka Kansai.

To be honest I am not surprised about Thai falling to 7th. It is still a great airline, but its regional competitors are moving way faster when it comes to improve their on-board services. Not installing PTVs in their refurbished B744s is a terrible mistake... when will the managment realize that passengers in economy want an improved in-flight entertainment?

The refurbished 747s still dont get PTVs installed? what the hell is that? the non-stop flight strategy is actually proving that they have been trying hard, tho. cheer up!

i heard the news recently that THAI just raised their employees' salary..prolly, they just realize they need to change the entire foundation of the company.

Thai Airways A300-600 in new color scheme... doesn't look as bad as in the other aircraft models, maybe because the fuselage is shorter and therefore we don't see so much white. :nono:

Same here, i never have any bad experience or service from the THAI crews, I have flied with them internationally more than 20 times in economics class..

i think they are very very friendly ppl, i speak Thai to them all the time, the service is always extraordinary.

i think the reason why the thais think they are being treated unfairly, is because they expect too much. most of the westeners asks for things they want, when the thais see those foriegners getting something that they are not, and they think its unfair to them.....and they are too shy to ask, and expect the crew to serve them..

i don't know i could be wrong, tho.

in the article, it says they got the prize for their catering, they absolutely deserve it.
