How about a Tournament in the City vs. City threads. Not sure how it could be set up but it would be cool. Just an idea.

View Full Version : How about a City vs. City tournament? Mr Man January 16th, 2005, 04:34 AM How about a Tournament in the City vs. City threads. Not sure how it could be set up but it would be cool. Just an idea. Rainier Meadows January 16th, 2005, 09:10 AM I've been thinking of a way to approach that....any ideas out there? :) Mr Man January 16th, 2005, 09:32 AM Yeah.. It would be complicated. Just have a bunch of city vs. city debates. Each city starts out with 0 points. And each city that wins a debate gets a point, each city that loses a debate loses a point. And cities match against each other that have the same points. Whoever has the higest points at the end of the year wins or something. It would be fun if this was implemented. HoustonTexas January 16th, 2005, 10:01 AM Yeah.. It would be hard, simply because most people on this Forum (not insulting anyone) are trolls, and there heads swell up so much when it comes to there home town, "bias"... Its a great idea, but with some people, it could be just as easily ruined! :( EarlyBird January 16th, 2005, 02:27 PM I think it's a great idea, but it needs it's own sub forum, you should delete all posts in there except the specific "city vs. city" threads in each round and you should make sure that no cities from the same country are paired until the later rounds. You need a list to start with though where people can make nominations for cities. Accura4Matalan January 16th, 2005, 04:51 PM Even though we already know who the winner will be? Fern January 16th, 2005, 07:17 PM Even though we already know who the winner will be? That'd be Lisbon!!! I think with strict rules it would work Houston Texas. Anyone drifting away from the topics, city bashing or using foul language would be asked to leave and their respective posts deleted. digital_slash January 16th, 2005, 11:41 PM sounds like a great idea. "over zealous hometown bias" posters and "anti-city" posters might ruin it, but it might work. Mr Man January 17th, 2005, 12:22 AM Well, the votes could be made public and if anyone acts like an ass, vote for the other guy. Problem solved? It would definetly need it's own sub-forum in City vs. City The Mad Hatter!! January 17th, 2005, 02:13 AM well while were talking about city vs. city maybe we could have skyline vs. skyline or skyscraper vs. skyscraper great idea mr. man but would the cities have to be like nominated or something. Mr Man January 17th, 2005, 03:22 AM yeah, complicated issue at hand. digital_slash January 17th, 2005, 04:36 AM well before you start nominations, how would the two battling cities be chosen? I think EarlyBird said that the respective cities shouldn't be from the same countries until the later rounds, which is probably the best way to go about it. The cities chosen should have comparable merit. No NYC vs. London since they are polar opposities. NYC vs. Tokyo and Paris vs London seem to be the most obvious. The best way to go about nominations that I can think of would consist of 2 priliminary stages. -the first stage would be Very hectic, have an open nomination thread and have people nominate the cities they think should be included in the battle. Then after a certain period of time, the cities with more then a certain number of nominations, say 10, would go on to stage two. - the second stage would be where we have people nominate cities to oppose each other. the only cities that can oppose each other would be the ones that survived stage 1 (or else it would be a bunch of premier cities versus the cities that didn't make the cut). each city match up would have to be cities from differnt countries. you could set up the nominations of the opposing cities by gathering all the cities that made the cut, and compiling them into a list. also have the cities you can choose from in a sort of "word bank" at the top. for example, say NY, Chicago, LA, Berlin, Tronto, and Tokyo had to be matched up (of course there'd be alot more then that, but for demonstration purposes...). The set up could look something like this: --------------------------------------------- NY, Chicago, LA, Berlin, Tronto, Tokyo NY- Chicago- LA- Berlin- Tronto- Tokyo- --------------------------------------------- each stage would have its own thread. any person who wants to nominate a city would just have to copy and paste the list into their post and fill in the city that they think should be paired with another city. so a filled out nominee list would look like this --------------------------------------------- NY, Chicago, LA, Berlin, Tronto, Tokyo NY- Tokyo Chicago- Berlin LA- Tronto Berlin- Chicago Tronto- LA Tokyo- NY --------------------------------------------- the repetitive part of the list could be cut out to shorten it, so the list would look like this: --------------------------------------------- NY, Chicago, LA, Berlin, Tronto, Tokyo NY- Tokyo Chicago- Berlin LA- Tronto --------------------------------------------- well thats my idea for nominations, hope it makes sense. digital_slash January 17th, 2005, 04:44 AM oh, and you might want to ban people from voting if the city their living in is involved in the voting. would help to keep the polls staight. but people whose cities are involved could still post pictures and provide information. no harm in trying to sway voters as long as it stays clean. Mr Man January 17th, 2005, 06:52 AM Good ideas. But just one suggestion. If a city wins a debate, it should be matched up with other winners. If a city loses a debate, then it should be matched up with other losers. Which is why I suggest a point system: +1 point for each win, -1 point for each loss. (Some tweaking is needed) Cities could then be matched up based on their points. When a city has -3 points, it could be kicked out of the completion. Eventually, the number of cities in the competition will drop until we only have two left by years end. It would be the ultimate city vs. city debate. |
