ahhhhhhhhhhhh, seattle, one of my all-time favorites.

what's not to like about the seattle skyline? curvacious and beautiful BofA standing guard, the exquisite po-mo wash-mu holding its own, the oddly-out-of-date-but-still-somehow-really-fooking-cool space needle rocking its own brand of jetson-style.

the mountains, the sound, the hills, elliot bay, lake union, seattle center, etc. this is one skyline not to miss in my opinion. seattle is just simply beautiful, in terms of both skyline and overall city. few skylines have ever really captured me with their beauty, but seattle is one of them.

What can I say about it. It is simply beautiful, the only reason I'm not giving it a 10 is because that is reserved for Chicago, New York, and Hong Kong. But Seattle is only a stones throw away from being a hugely dense and massive downtown. But when you have the sound, the lake, Rainier, Baker, the Olympics, the Cascades, and the forests. It's hard not to give it a 10...

Seattle is terrific. That's obvious when you take in the waterfront visual! 9.

I give Seattle a 10/10! Not only does it have one heck of a
tall, dense skyline built on steep hills, it's also got the
Space Needle as a centerpiece from the Queen Anne view.
On top of this, it is surrounded by the most stunning natural
setting of snow capped mountains, the bay, the greenery.
No doubt about it, it's a 10. The skyscrapers alone would be
enough to give it a 9.5.

I was in Seattle's downtown - I live there. These pics were taken from the Space Needle. The reason for my low rating is because the city center is dead - there're no people at all, and the residential sector just sucks. The population is way to small for a city like Seattle. So I think that it's a fake city - more like a village with some skyscrapers in the center, but rather dead and boring.

I like Seattle's very impressive skyline. It looks like a much larger city than it is. A 9 from me.

Seattle has everything a skyline should have outside of itself to enhance it. Water, bridges, and mountains. Oh Mt. Rainier looks so cool behind this skyline. There are so many different styles of scrapers and height differences, and the space needle is definately something to look at. Simply gorgeous skyline. 9.5/10.

And the people who voted 3 are skewing the poll, please stop doing that. 3 people have voted 3, probably just trying to bring down the average so that their crappy city can be a little closer to this marvelous skyline.

Seattle, WA is one of my favorite cities in the world, not only becuase of it's skyline. but it's geographic position and in the background the beautiful mount Rainier, in which i went to whenever I was 5 years old.

Since I live in Seattle I must give it a 10. Absolutely beautiful. We just added the 40 story IDX Tower to our skyline. I also read in the paper yesterday Seattle is starting construction on another 40 story skyscraper with construction beginning in early 2004. Not only do we have a great skyline but we also have a lively downtown. Over the past few years we've added many new stores including Tiffany, Cartier, Louis Vitton, Kenneth Cole, J Crew, Pottery Barn, The Cheesecake Factory, Eileen Fisher, Coach, Restoration Hardware and many more. These stores go perfect with our flagship Nordstrom and Bon Marche' department stores. So this is why I give our skyline a 10.

seattle is one of the archetypal cities for me... photogenic in the extreme. i have seen pix of seattle that rank in the top ten, and for that, i'm giving it nine.

Nice skyline but considering this town is home to the Space Needle I would expect the buildings to be a little more daring in their design. Many of these skyscrapers are boring.

Nonetheless, the beautiful location brings it up to an 8.

This is a classy looking city, and from what I hear, Seattle has a lot of class. It's got a very American look to it. The layout is nice, but the skyline doesn't look as good from certain angles so I give it an 8/10.

If I could i'd give it a 1000000000000000000000! If you've never been to Seatle GO THERE SOON! Seattle has the most classiest skyline ever. The entire city is very interesting too. It is a great place to live. You all need to go up to the Observation Deck at the Bank o'America building if you can. It is amazing. The setting of the city is spectacular. You can't really compare it to any east-coast cities because Seattle's entire culture is influenced by the mountains and abundance of water, like all places in the Pacific Northwest. If you get the chance, go/come to Seattle. Stop by Coeur d'Alene Idaho if you are driving from the EC.

Seattle has to be one of the best skylines in North America. There are tons of inovative buildings in the skyline (if you look close).

Examples are Rainier Square built in 1977 with it's signature pedistal base. The IBM built in 1964 was a prototype for the World Trade Center Towers. The Smith Tower was once the tallest commercial building outside of New York City (1914). Other interesting buildings are: Two Union Square (1989), Washington Mutual Tower(1988), US Bank Centre (1989), The new US. Court House (2004), and even the Seattle Municipal Tower (1990)which has solar panels for the exterior roof coverings.. and who can forget the Bank of Amercia Tower, when completed was the tallest building west of the Mississippi and is still one of the tallest buildings on the Pacific Coast (1985).

Its not that great not that dense and not very unique. I would say its the 5th best city in the USA and 8th best in North America. The main problum is the city needs to expand its just a strip of buildings a long the water and doesnt take advantage of its natural setting.

Haha I remember when I was watching the Simpsons and Homer was taking a Clown College course and Krusty was teaching Homer some funny words and the words were like: Cucamunga, Etc (other funny words) and the last one was Seattle and Homer burst out laughing when he heard Seattle, it was funny. I felt stupid when I saw that though because For a second I didnt think he meant Seattle the place so I laughed too when he said Seattle, until I clued in and remembered..

This same site has a link to a readers poll, which is based on how a skyline appears, rather than how many tall buildings it has. If you compare this graphic (Click here) (http://www.library.tudelft.nl/~egram/skypoll.htm) you will see that there is a large discrepancy between how the algorithm ranked the skyline of Seattle vs. how many tall buildings Seattle has.

Note that Seattle's skyline ranks 30th or so in the USA and Canada when using the mathematical algorithm, but ranks 4th when judging by aesthetic factors.

A typically impressive and imposing American skyline. A nice variety of tall, densely packed buildings and a beautiful setting. The reason I haven't given it higher than 8 is because of the lack of character in the skyline. The buildings are pretty much from the same period. Tall, modern skyscrapers are great as long as they are complimented with different architechture from other periods, as is the case in many European cities. You need buildings with history in a skyline.

sOmeOne, I have never seen a "dead "downtown" pic of Seattle. How does the residential sector suck? As I have only seen beautiful residential pictures of Seattle. Because in a way, that is a compliment. Fake city? Wow, I don't see how you could label a beautiful city like Seattle as fake. 9 out of 10. Seattle has a very impressive skyline that is very dominant and proud looking. A lot of that is due to the density and height. It can be viewed from almost any angle and retain its' majesty. My favorite view is from the ferry leaving Bremerton. It's fun to watch for the skyline and see it pop into view for the first time. Then as you get closer and closer to downtown, the buildings get bigger and bigger. It's awesome. From the ferry terminal the buildings look even bigger than they are because downtown is built on a hill.

That said, Seattle lacks a building that gives it a unique identity. Nothing is instantly identifiable like San Fran's TA Pyramid or Denver's "Cash Register". However, Seattle has the Space Needle so they need not worry about that.

The view from the 73rd floor of the Bank of America building is disappointing. Although it has impressive views overlooking Puget Sound, it did not allow a complete 360 degree view of the city. I haven't been there in a couple of years so maybe that's changed. Anyway, the Space Needle is still the best way to see it above street level.

It's a very nice skyline. My only gripe about it is when viewed from across the water in West Seattle. Not a nice parabolic skyline which I tend to favor. It looks more like a line of stairs from north to south, as the buildings gradually get taller and taller along the line as it heads south. But I agree, when viewed from the north or south, Seattle's skyline is tough to beat.

This is my home city, but objectively I have to give it an 8, based on most pictures of it I see I'd give it a 7, but being from there I know what's what. A friend of mine lives on the 11th floor of the Marlborough building on first hill - Wow - that's a view! The skyline looks great, looking at it from the East, that's when it looks dense and impressive.

You do realize that the Space Needle was completed 12 years before the CN Tower, right?

Also, I give the Seattle skyline a 9.5. Mt. Rainier enhances the look of the city as Mt. Fuji does to Tokyo.

Has always been my all-time favorite. It looks so surreal in that pic. How do I rate a skyline? When the name of the city is mentioned,pop! the skyline appears in your head. That's a skyline...memorable.Unlike most other US skylines,when mentioned,it vaguely registers in memory.
So for Seattle, a 9/10

9.5/10 I love to see it everyday. It soon will be becoming even more dense with condo towers and new office buildings. Our mayor pushed and was successful in raising downtown height limits to promote density and reduce urban sprawl.

ahhh seattle.. the city i used to live.. it never changed!! the combination of mountains, bay, forest.. hmm heaven on earth!!

never been there, but wouldn't mind to go:) It looks different (i'm not sure it's the rihgt word to describe it)!!! I would like to think it deserves nothing less than 10, so 10/10!!! Keep it growing!!!!!!!!!

I rated it a 9.5 and I almost feel guilty for not giving it a 10. It is a very tall skyline for the west coast, and most of the buildings are beautiful individually, but also go well together to make a good whole skyline. If only the skyline could be more expansive, but fortunately we'll see that happen with South Lake Union and Denny Triange (areas directly north of the skyscrapers) develop.

Okay, I gave it a 9, I live here. I'm hoping that the rumors of Seattle getting a new tallest becomes a reality. Our skyline is beautiful, but needs more infill, we're getting there, just a few more years to go.

Space Needle!! Mountain!! Lovely!! 9.5

10/10... One of the Best in the World... I think I'd only put NYC ahead of it

-Excellent collection of remarkable and beautiful towers with good variety of designs: Space Needle, Washington Mutual Tower, 2 Union Square, US Bank Centre, Smith Tower, Columbia Center. IMO a world class skyline needs at least one classic skyscraper (Smith Tower) that is prominent on a skyline which unfortunately rules out a lot of cities.
-The awesome siting of the city on the hillside over looking the bay
-The lighting on the towers is exceptional in the afternoon and evening
-The view from Kerry Park is jaw-dropping especially at dusk with a purple sky and golden glowing towers and with the prominent Space Needle and its "atomic-green glow" in front of the downtown skyline
-one skyscraper doesn't dominate the skyline from all sides, for each direction viewed certain towers become more prominent or less prominent

our little city has gotten a lot of tens. someone should do a scored index construction on the number of tens other cities recieved and the number of votes they got total, that would have been useful in the city v. city days. there was an independent city v. city website that started in response to the banishing of the topic on this board, is that still around? we had unresolved business with Philly and Montreal...:jk:

Seattle's skyline just seems so perfect. Considering im usually bored by american skylines, this one is DEFINTELY an exception.

PWright1...post that red/pink sunset pic taken from the north of downtown. That pic cannot be judged anything less than 10/10. It's unreal it's so beautiful.
