View Full Version : Seattle - USA Rainier Meadows December 19th, 2002, 05:28 AM Seattle, WA http://www.skyscrapercity.com/photopost/data/500/4261aaa12345678.jpg Steely Dan December 19th, 2002, 06:56 AM ahhhhhhhhhhhh, seattle, one of my all-time favorites. what's not to like about the seattle skyline? curvacious and beautiful BofA standing guard, the exquisite po-mo wash-mu holding its own, the oddly-out-of-date-but-still-somehow-really-fooking-cool space needle rocking its own brand of jetson-style. the mountains, the sound, the hills, elliot bay, lake union, seattle center, etc. this is one skyline not to miss in my opinion. seattle is just simply beautiful, in terms of both skyline and overall city. few skylines have ever really captured me with their beauty, but seattle is one of them. 9/10 Pablo December 19th, 2002, 07:18 AM 8/10.....very nice city;) MrTall December 19th, 2002, 07:33 AM Yup, like it a lot. Good marks for height, density, architecture and size. 8.75/10 mookiecece December 19th, 2002, 09:18 AM great skyline and great buildings 9/10 JiminyCricket December 19th, 2002, 09:58 AM What can I say about it. It is simply beautiful, the only reason I'm not giving it a 10 is because that is reserved for Chicago, New York, and Hong Kong. But Seattle is only a stones throw away from being a hugely dense and massive downtown. But when you have the sound, the lake, Rainier, Baker, the Olympics, the Cascades, and the forests. It's hard not to give it a 10... X-seed 4000 December 19th, 2002, 10:17 AM "It's hard not to give it a 10..." Your right, so I gave it a 10/10! I simply love Seattle! I fell in love with it in a third grade field trip :D I can't believe that I actually saw the Bank of America only 10 - 15 feet away!! Cliff December 19th, 2002, 02:17 PM Very well balanced full skyline, but not steralised enougth - quite a few ugly buildings and construction sites. 7.5/10:) De Snor December 19th, 2002, 03:00 PM One of the best in the entire US  breezyboy69 December 19th, 2002, 03:01 PM 8.5 out of ten...nice balance of density and hieght and looks great!! Irish Blood English Heart December 19th, 2002, 11:03 PM yes one of the most beautiful in the world, certainly in the USA, and the city gives Vancouver a run for its location. Im very lucky to be flying over to both cities from Manchester next summer. 8.5/10 Jeff from Winnipeg December 20th, 2002, 01:56 AM Since 10 is reserved for New York, Chicago, Hong Kong and several other major centres (my opinion only), I have to give it 9.5/10 ganjavih December 20th, 2002, 08:49 PM Not too bad... not breathtaking either... 8/10 Francis20 December 21st, 2002, 02:25 PM what about the night shots! please post them too... night shots of a city are the breathtaking ones! ryanr December 21st, 2002, 03:24 PM One of my favorite skylines in the USA!! 8/10!:) liberty05 December 21st, 2002, 05:12 PM http://www.springcreekphotography.com/Seattle_skyline_at_night.jpg http://www.pollackphoto.com/us/pnw/seattle/large/F0180-01.jpg http://members.tripod.com/AuroraMatt/images/seattle2.jpg SteelCity32 December 21st, 2002, 08:08 PM seattle's skyline is great. 9/10 AndrewC December 21st, 2002, 11:18 PM 11/10 Kevinkhoo1986 December 22nd, 2002, 04:50 AM 7/10 its nice.. heirloom December 22nd, 2002, 01:50 PM dense + high quality buildings = 9/10 bgwah December 22nd, 2002, 11:29 PM rainier, edit your post and add the best pics, cuz those are not. like that one you took that everyone loved from the industrial district Rainier Meadows December 23rd, 2002, 01:16 AM Which one? ;) http://www.skyscrapercity.com/photopost/data/500/426p1010004.jpg http://www.skyscrapercity.com/photopost/data/500/426morning.jpg I like the first one better! :) JiminyCricket December 23rd, 2002, 10:54 AM Since we're on Total Request Live, I'd love to see some Alki Beach shots! Please:D SUNNI December 25th, 2002, 02:26 AM the first time i saw this city, it impressed me so much that i started loving skyscrapers... 10/10 Bond James Bond December 29th, 2002, 04:13 AM IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'M BEING GENEROUS WITH A 3.5!!!!! Hey, someone had to trash it! :D Rainier Meadows December 29th, 2002, 01:36 PM Dude your messing up the average if you are not serious :guns1: bgwah January 2nd, 2003, 01:04 AM YEAH! >( CTroyMathis January 2nd, 2003, 03:45 AM Seattle is terrific. That's obvious when you take in the waterfront visual! 9. parody24 January 4th, 2003, 09:58 AM I give Seattle a 10/10! Not only does it have one heck of a tall, dense skyline built on steep hills, it's also got the Space Needle as a centerpiece from the Queen Anne view. On top of this, it is surrounded by the most stunning natural setting of snow capped mountains, the bay, the greenery. No doubt about it, it's a 10. The skyscrapers alone would be enough to give it a 9.5. Eddy January 6th, 2003, 12:05 PM One of my favourite 10/10 Jai-C January 6th, 2003, 01:18 PM The skyline is great, although I don't like the buildings. => 7.5 sOmeOne February 9th, 2003, 04:15 AM Well, guess what - this is also SEATTLE: http://home.1asphost.com/pyrotech/PIC0072.jpg http://home.1asphost.com/pyrotech/PIC0070.jpg http://home.1asphost.com/pyrotech/PIC0069.jpg http://home.1asphost.com/pyrotech/PIC0068.jpg http://home.1asphost.com/pyrotech/PIC0067.jpg Made exclusively by me. Nice skyline, huh? 3/10

You weren't even in the city, how could you give it such a low rating based on it's residential areas? Go into the downtown area and take some pictures, they will look more like this: sOmeOne February 11th, 2003, 12:44 AM I was in Seattle's downtown - I live there. These pics were taken from the Space Needle. The reason for my low rating is because the city center is dead - there're no people at all, and the residential sector just sucks. The population is way to small for a city like Seattle. So I think that it's a fake city - more like a village with some skyscrapers in the center, but rather dead and boring. schmidt February 11th, 2003, 07:43 AM 10!!! Dense, Modern, Beautiful and it has a snowy mountain! PERFECT! :) :) :) mookiecece February 13th, 2003, 07:13 AM a seattle panorama I found on the web simply beautiful, Seattle deserves no less than 9 9/10 bgwah February 21st, 2003, 11:12 AM whats up with bashing seattle? Were not rating those places, were rating the skyline... dont be so stupid Sorry Seattle doesnt compare to the largest city and capitol of the worlds biggest country :p Pilot66 February 22nd, 2003, 08:39 PM I like Seattle's very impressive skyline. It looks like a much larger city than it is. A 9 from me. DrumCorpsAlum February 22nd, 2003, 09:04 PM Seattle has everything a skyline should have outside of itself to enhance it. Water, bridges, and mountains. Oh Mt. Rainier looks so cool behind this skyline. There are so many different styles of scrapers and height differences, and the space needle is definately something to look at. Simply gorgeous skyline. 9.5/10. DrumCorpsAlum February 22nd, 2003, 09:06 PM And the people who voted 3 are skewing the poll, please stop doing that. 3 people have voted 3, probably just trying to bring down the average so that their crappy city can be a little closer to this marvelous skyline. Wu-Gambino February 23rd, 2003, 12:33 AM I can't wait to go to Seattle!! 9 Tony 175 February 23rd, 2003, 01:18 AM Ive never been there so i cant rate the 'livliness' of the city. TropicalSQ744 April 20th, 2003, 07:49 PM It's got everything! :D Nice buildings (tall too!), not many boring boxes, nicest observation tower in the world (smack right in the middle of the skyline ;) ) The natural environment is a plus too! :guns1: 9.5/10 ernesto_eduardo April 21st, 2003, 03:03 AM Seattle, WA is one of my favorite cities in the world, not only becuase of it's skyline. but it's geographic position and in the background the beautiful mount Rainier, in which i went to whenever I was 5 years old. I am planning to visit Seattle in the future.   rank.. 10/10 liberty05 April 23rd, 2003, 02:43 AM 10/10!!!!!! cant wait till' wamu tower is built and all those other towers proposed! pwright1 June 1st, 2003, 08:04 AM Since I live in Seattle I must give it a 10. Absolutely beautiful. We just added the 40 story IDX Tower to our skyline. I also read in the paper yesterday Seattle is starting construction on another 40 story skyscraper with construction beginning in early 2004. Not only do we have a great skyline but we also have a lively downtown. Over the past few years we've added many new stores including Tiffany, Cartier, Louis Vitton, Kenneth Cole, J Crew, Pottery Barn, The Cheesecake Factory, Eileen Fisher, Coach, Restoration Hardware and many more. These stores go perfect with our flagship Nordstrom and Bon Marche' department stores. So this is why I give our skyline a 10. fox1 July 1st, 2003, 06:21 AM seattle is one of the archetypal cities for me... photogenic in the extreme. i have seen pix of seattle that rank in the top ten, and for that, i'm giving it nine. Evergrey August 15th, 2003, 04:55 PM Seattle has done everything right 10 Fabio August 19th, 2003, 06:21 AM 9.5/10 Great skyline. Many of these skyscrapers are boring. Nonetheless, the beautiful location brings it up to an 8. Primo November 4th, 2003, 02:36 AM I just love Space Needle and Bank of American so elegant and modern, the skyline is one of the best in the U.S 9.5/10 SeeMacau November 8th, 2003, 03:09 PM Impressive skyline with some beautiful towers 9.5/10 Trances November 12th, 2003, 05:31 PM Denity landscape and tower this one hard to beat should be in the top 10 10/10 for me johnrosstaiwan December 6th, 2003, 06:47 PM 10/10 excellent city.Amazing skyline.Beautiful nature as well.I love Seattle.           Weerez December 24th, 2003, 02:33 PM 8/10. MightyBoy May 12th, 2004, 08:12 AM Quite, comfort and unique.... 9/10 ATLANTATOPS June 27th, 2004, 07:51 AM There is no denying the natural beauty of this city. The skyline is beautiful .it has its own vibe like no other. Its more impressive live!.. if you have never been your missing out. r2 June 28th, 2004, 08:47 PM i agree with atlantatops it is even more impressive and beautiful live ... being from the east coast, i was frankly blown away by the beauty of the scenery that literally surrounds the city, i would move there in a heart beat Mr.Skyscraper July 6th, 2004, 06:39 PM 9/10 Mr.Skyscraper July 6th, 2004, 06:41 PM :) 9/10 One of the greatest cities in the world, along with Chicago, NY, and Hong Kong.:banana2::cheers1:  skylover July 6th, 2004, 07:53 PM One of the most futuristic skylines in the world. 9.5/10 BrainWashington July 6th, 2004, 08:02 PM 10/10 Rickster885 July 7th, 2004, 09:12 AM This is a classy looking city, and from what I hear, Seattle has a lot of class. It's got a very American look to it. The layout is nice, but the skyline doesn't look as good from certain angles so I give it an 8/10. HoofddorpHigh July 10th, 2004, 01:33 AM Very nice city, have been there and liked the views of the city a lot, so 9/10 for me. smartlake July 11th, 2004, 10:22 AM If I could i'd give it a 1000000000000000000000! If you've never been to Seatle GO THERE SOON! Seattle has the most classiest skyline ever. The entire city is very interesting too. It is a great place to live. You all need to go up to the Observation Deck at the Bank o'America building if you can. It is amazing. The setting of the city is spectacular. You can't really compare it to any east-coast cities because Seattle's entire culture is influenced by the mountains and abundance of water, like all places in the Pacific Northwest. If you get the chance, go/come to Seattle. Stop by Coeur d'Alene Idaho if you are driving from the EC. kiku99 July 11th, 2004, 11:38 PM very beautiful skyline. one of my favourite skylines in North America. Downtownboi July 15th, 2004, 09:09 PM Seattle has to be one of the best skylines in North America. There are tons of inovative buildings in the skyline (if you look close). Examples are Rainier Square built in 1977 with it's signature pedistal base. The IBM built in 1964 was a prototype for the World Trade Center Towers. The Smith Tower was once the tallest commercial building outside of New York City (1914). Other interesting buildings are: Two Union Square (1989), Washington Mutual Tower(1988), US Bank Centre (1989), The new US. Court House (2004), and even the Seattle Municipal Tower (1990)which has solar panels for the exterior roof coverings.. and who can forget the Bank of Amercia Tower, when completed was the tallest building west of the Mississippi and is still one of the tallest buildings on the Pacific Coast (1985). JTS LOU July 16th, 2004, 01:42 AM Myalltime Favorite digili_man July 16th, 2004, 01:54 AM 9 Seattle looks very nice; the mountains, skyneedle, downtown core, stadium, etc...probably my 2nd most favourite city in western NA. mauiboy63sea July 21st, 2004, 05:08 AM Here's a couple of pics of downtown Seattle and the Space Needle taken from Kerry Park, Queen Anne hill. http://img39.exs.cx/img39/4163/Needle.jpg http://img39.exs.cx/img39/9686/101-0135_IMG.jpg myfoong July 21st, 2004, 12:00 PM Overated. I would say its the 5th best city in the USA and 8th best in North America. The main problum is the city needs to expand its just a strip of buildings a long the water and doesnt take advantage of its natural setting. james2390 September 12th, 2004, 04:48 PM 10/10. According to this page http://www.library.tudelft.nl/~egram/skylines.htm (a website ranks the World's Best Skylines by building heights), Seattle is ranked 36th in the world. This same site has a link to a readers poll, which is based on how a skyline appears, rather than how many tall buildings it has. If you compare this graphic (Click here) (http://www.library.tudelft.nl/~egram/skypoll.htm) you will see that there is a large discrepancy between how the algorithm ranked the skyline of Seattle vs. how many tall buildings Seattle has. Note that Seattle's skyline ranks 30th or so in the USA and Canada when using the mathematical algorithm, but ranks 4th when judging by aesthetic factors. Rossiapacifica. i_am_hydrogen December 9th, 2004, 02:18 PM 8.5/10-Seattle's skyline looks beautiful from any angle! DamienK December 12th, 2004, 01:00 PM 8.5/10. December 27th, 2004, 09:42 PM 10 for seattle! Liam-Manchester December 29th, 2004, 05:33 PM A typically impressive and imposing American skyline. A nice variety of tall, densely packed buildings and a beautiful setting. The reason I haven't given it higher than 8 is because of the lack of character in the skyline. The buildings are pretty much from the same period. Tall, modern skyscrapers are great as long as they are complimented with different architechture from other periods, as is the case in many European cities. You need buildings with history in a skyline. B@dGuYoM December 29th, 2004, 05:53 PM one of my favourite US skyline i give it a legitime 9/10 :) jiggawhat? December 29th, 2004, 10:32 PM liam...there is smith tower...the first building ever built with elevators and was the talles building outside of NYC and chicago for a while. beh0123 January 11th, 2005, 12:23 AM another one of my favs. hauntedheadnc January 11th, 2005, 11:15 PM Excellent skyline, excellent setting. 10. VanSeaPor March 13th, 2005, 07:05 AM Great skyline, best place for 360 degree views is the Bank of America Tower Observation Deck. 9.5/10. :) SkyHigh529 March 21st, 2005, 07:00 AM Though not the largest, Seattle's skyline is one of the best in the world. Seattle reminds me of Sydney in how it takes advantage of its surrounding natural beaty to enhance its skyline. I give Seattle a 10. VanSeaPor March 22nd, 2005, 09:17 AM I was in Seattle's downtown - I live there. A FAKE CITY!!!!!!! You can't judge a city skyline by it's low density residential areas! SkyHigh529 March 22nd, 2005, 05:34 PM sOmeOne, I have never seen a "dead "downtown" pic of Seattle. How does the residential sector suck? As I have only seen beautiful residential pictures of Seattle. How is the population way to small for a city like Seattle? Are you saying it is so big yet it the population doesn't represent the size and beauty of a city like Seattle? Because in a way, that is a compliment. Fake city? Wow, I don't see how you could label a beautiful city like Seattle as fake. Your post instantly gets no credit in my book and I don't believe you live in Seattle. MattSal March 22nd, 2005, 10:12 PM Seattle is very, very nice. Seattle has a very impressive skyline that is very dominant and proud looking. A lot of that is due to the density and height. It can be viewed from almost any angle and retain its' majesty. My favorite view is from the ferry leaving Bremerton. It's fun to watch for the skyline and see it pop into view for the first time. Then as you get closer and closer to downtown, the buildings get bigger and bigger. It's awesome. From the ferry terminal the buildings look even bigger than they are because downtown is built on a hill. That said, Seattle lacks a building that gives it a unique identity. Nothing is instantly identifiable like San Fran's TA Pyramid or Denver's "Cash Register". However, Seattle has the Space Needle so they need not worry about that. The view from the 73rd floor of the Bank of America building is disappointing. Although it has impressive views overlooking Puget Sound, it did not allow a complete 360 degree view of the city. I haven't been there in a couple of years so maybe that's changed. Anyway, the Space Needle is still the best way to see it above street level. XiaoBai July 3rd, 2005, 11:14 AM Maybe someone only went out at two in the morning? Or maybe goes to bed at 8 every night...and just says it's dead for the sake of it. My only gripe about it is when viewed from across the water in West Seattle. Not a nice parabolic skyline which I tend to favor. It looks more like a line of stairs from north to south, as the buildings gradually get taller and taller along the line as it heads south. But I agree, when viewed from the north or south, Seattle's skyline is tough to beat. lesterZ July 26th, 2005, 12:09 AM This is my home city, but objectively I have to give it an 8, based on most pictures of it I see I'd give it a 7, but being from there I know what's what.
