De Snor December 19th, 2002, 03:15 PM Australian cities looks famous for theyre skylines , but this one needs to be more dense
breezyboy69 December 19th, 2002, 03:19 PM 10 :D
Irish Blood English Heart December 19th, 2002, 10:59 PM Why do Oz cities all seem to have great skylines, and in the good weather it looks even better.
I give Perth a good 7/10
Jeff from Winnipeg December 20th, 2002, 02:05 AM I'm really liking that 6th pic! Great signature towers in this skyline. ->8.5/10
X-seed 4000 December 20th, 2002, 05:09 AM What Perth lacks in density, it more than makes up for it in height!
8.5/10!
Cliff December 20th, 2002, 07:30 AM I love perth, although not as big, but very well planned and proportioned, the skyline is literally perfect, 3 distict height levels, a focal piont, the 2 buildings really brings the skyline together.
9/10
Pablo December 20th, 2002, 08:19 AM very very nice city, although there r not much skyscrapers but still looks nice 8/10;)
Rainier Meadows December 22nd, 2002, 06:23 AM Perths skyline proves you can do a lot with a few tall ones! ;)
Loses .5 for lack of depth!
7.5/10
SteelCity32 December 22nd, 2002, 06:28 AM nice pictures, wow, This one is a winner

Ste December 22nd, 2002, 03:07 PM Looks nice! Not as good as Melbourne and Sydney though! Skyscrapers and sun always make a good city :)
chrisaus December 22nd, 2002, 04:22 PM though perths population is only 1.4million
sydney is 4.2 million and mel 3.6 million
davo December 23rd, 2002, 01:45 PM Exactly!
Blah December 23rd, 2002, 02:42 PM What I like about Perth is its attractive skyscrapers. Most of them aren't the usual boxes you find in most cities. THey have a nice style.
8/10
DaninTO December 23rd, 2002, 10:59 PM Not as nice as Brisbane, but still much better than most cities its size. Makes a good effort. 7.5/10
mimil December 24th, 2002, 10:59 AM beautiful city, cool skyscrapers,
but a little bit boring for me.
cos, There are no deep history, I think.
6/10
SUNNI December 25th, 2002, 12:57 AM nice towers, but there rnt enough of em.
isoboy January 10th, 2003, 05:29 PM Perth's skyline is very impressive for its size. A fantastic-looking city! 8/10
chrisaus January 16th, 2003, 04:59 PM -
Tony 175 January 19th, 2003, 08:34 PM Im glad to see that the buildings arent dull. It has good buildings that all stand out in there own way, even if they are not that tall.
I give it a 7.
It also looks great along the water front.
Lizardman January 21st, 2003, 06:33 AM The sun, swan river, The beach, The night lifes, and my first girl friend, mmm...lovely Perth, bring me the good memory !!!:) :D  :angel1: ......

Sorry, my vote is healthy 8/10.
SeeMacau January 22nd, 2003, 02:04 AM Perth is a very beautiful city and the skyline is not crowd
I give it 8.5/10
DrumCorpsAlum February 26th, 2003, 03:49 PM Perth is built so that the skyline forms the triangle effect. Your eyes are led upward and to the center. Waiting for you in the center is two beautiful and different buildings. Perth's skyline offers a variety of scraper styles. 9/10.
Homeroids March 8th, 2003, 11:03 AM even though I made a seperate thread for this pic, it's worth posting here since it shows the length of Perth's skyline. Perth's skyline has hardly any depth since the vast majority of buildings run along the one street, but from this angle she looks beautiful :)

perth is so beautiful, is very stylish too, but i think it needs alot of inmigrants in order to make it grow fastly, so it could at least have 2.5 million inhabitants, and i think the wester coast of australia needs more inmigrants

sky vs sky March 10th, 2004, 12:35 PM Heychrisaus, looks like a favourable response from our overseas mates.
I personally give it 8.5.
Remove the two tallies and it would be pretty small - but it must be rembered it's a young and isolated city and fights above it's weight division
The cityscape is quite stunning and will develop into one of the most beautiful skylines in the world over the next decade or two.
Perth and Brisbane are just starting to grow up!
We may be the little sisters to Melbourne and Sydney.
But we are young, fresh and cheaper
......perfect for a nice pair of cities!

Actually I find the street level in Perth and major suburbs are pretty 'neat'. All streets have underground power, nice footpaths paving + planting. Major streets like Hay St, Murray St have so many cafe, alfresco restaurants opening everywhere.
But I agree the skyline can be bulk up a bit.
wajz August 23rd, 2004, 11:45 PM Gorgeous skyline... Perth is the biggest village in the world, it looks like a metropolis but still feels like a country town. I love it!
Bronteboy September 7th, 2004, 03:42 AM renewing Perth pic, posted by Chrisaus: Perth currently ranked 177th in
unfortunately ramped skyline voting system, which has bunched ALL Australian cities - Sydney, Melb, Brisbane, Perth, Gold Coast etc - together at around that level.

Thonix October 11th, 2004, 09:33 PM Perth has more like 1.8 million. Whoever said there is "nothing" behind the skyline is so wrong - behind the skyline is the northern suburbs, the most densely populated area of the city, going back at least an hours drive of dense suburbs, as well as highways and railways, and don't forget Perth's nightlife district (despite the gang wars and prostitutes) - Northbridge!
Orfeo October 12th, 2004, 03:27 AM ^^

GORAN November 16th, 2004, 05:52 PM hey guys i'd just like to say that australian cities generaly have little apartment buildings in the city centers unlike many asian, american or european cities, but Perth especialy has none at all in the cbd where brisbane melbourne or sydney do have some making them look bigger and more dense .. personaly i think perth should be building more big buildings ..recently the woodisde buildings been built and the conention center .. altho thats beter than anything remember that perth is the 2nd fastest growing city and should have more buildings for the population it already has.. anyways i love the look of perth .. very uniqe

MIMICA December 30th, 2004, 08:41 AM I was wondering, does the city have any history? I mean, it is one of the most isolated cities in the world, so not much must have been going on there...Or is it? :D Anyway's...I would like to know more about the city...
Thonix December 30th, 2004, 10:37 PM Yeah it has a history, well its the hub of the whole western half of the country! I live here and still don't know much about it but there are heaps of shipwrecks and European expeditions and stuff, and that famous guy, Stirling I think? He landed and settled here, and then all the convicts from England came here. He chose the site for Perth and stuff but all the poms hated it here; since they were from England they hated the heat, the soil, the insects, everything. I'm not sure how many were here by choice (I think it was advertised in England as a luxurious new place to live, and when they got here it was completely different!) and yeah some were prisoners.
I went to the site of a ship landing, (it's also the site of a graveyard and churh) by the river, it's a beautiful place. There were plaques about the settlers in the 1800's, a few of them were killed by aboriginals.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help but I'm sure there is a rich history, if you ever come here just check out the maritime museum or something.
Perth4life3 December 31st, 2004, 03:42 AM i did it this year in s n e , settled in 1829, first evidence of an explorer was Dirk Hartog in 1616 then in the 1690's and replaced the plate that dirk left on a tree, he took the original back to holland.
when it was settled it was offered in england, free land for people who came to Perth, the land they were given then would now be worth millions of dollars because of its location on the swan river.
i_am_hydrogen January 6th, 2005, 08:20 AM 8.0/10 - I've always had this fondness for Perth's skyline. The sheer number of buildings isn't necessarily there, but it demonstrates that Aussie genius for creating very memorable skylines so evident in the cases of Melbourne and Sydney. I love it.

Well the good news is we have a 207m tower resi and a 197m tower resi on the way. A 100m resi planned and alot of redevelopments that will extend and add new dimension to the skyline.
We also have 7 skyscrapers ranging from 40-80m going up east of the river. So we have alot of development to come.

comingsoon August 18th, 2005, 05:45 AM Perth's skyline is second rate. I vote 3 or below.
mic August 18th, 2005, 10:16 AM Little fake in the sense that all the photos resemble a long quite impressive skyline with a nice setting, but Perth lacks hugely in density ( I found Adelaide more urban, yes it lacks height but it is dense and is more than simply a few streets wide). Perth is also quite a small city, it actually struck me by surprise how small it really was. Its kind of one long main street or rougly 2 city blocks in width, other than that there isn't much else skyline wise in Perth.
6 is my vote....

FiL November 7th, 2005, 09:29 AM Sorry to all the Perth Boosters, but 2 nice tall buildings do not constitute a great skyline for me. Perth4life3 November 7th, 2005, 09:49 AM its pretty dense when you think about it fitting around about 100 skyscrapers onto one or two streets.
and its not rate how dense the city is, its rate a skyline and in the dictionary skyline means >> outline of hills, buildings, etc. against the sky, the visible horizon.

my contribution to the thread.
Oh and on the earlier debate, Perth has around 1.65m people, but I've seen figures used by Government agencies of up to 1.71m. the 1.43m figure, which actually comes from a census 5 years ago, excludes key southern, eastern and northern metropolitan areas which are contiguous and continuous. To separate them you'd literally have to draw lines between houses and say "This is this city, this is that town". What also confuses things is that Perth local councils use "City of..." as if they are in fact a separate city rather than an LCA.
The confusion between marking Brisbane or Perth as the 3rd largest Australian city comes from Brisbane being a bigger city, but Perth having a bigger metro. Also, in Brisbane's case, the Gold Coast and much of the Sunshine Coast are not contiguous to the Brisbane metropolitan area, so are deemed separate centres.

Bullswool June 25th, 2006, 12:40 PM This city makes me proud when driving into it on the Kwinana Freeway across the river. The city just jumping out at you, with that, the Swan River, and Kings Park, Perth is the best!!!! 10/10! :)
Stiggen July 5th, 2006, 03:03 PM 7,5/10

Mr Magnate August 6th, 2006, 11:40 AM 7.5 out of 10 - Not the best skyline in Australia but it's not the worst either!
RON con soda August 6th, 2006, 12:14 PM I give it 8/10, and Perth is a medium city!

ace4 December 17th, 2006, 09:27 AM 8/10. although a small skyline it is still good looking. there are many places to take a good picture of the skyline.
festiboi January 1st, 2007, 01:44 AM Gave it an "8"
I like it much better than Brisbane's skyline, looks kinda futuristic. The BankWest and other tall building (can't remember it's name) really make this skyline, and they both look terrific; nice height and interesting modern designs. Just not enough tall buildings, but for a city this size, it looks good.
Nout January 2nd, 2007, 02:45 PM Looks good, needs a few more buildings to fill some empty space 7.5/10
inzane January 3rd, 2007, 06:49 AM 7.5/10
should get better in the future with the economic growth there
Cristovão471 January 3rd, 2007, 06:57 AM I'm really suprised that Perth has hardly any developments over 150 metres.
Fact at the moment house prices in Perth are around the same as Sydney's. All this because of the population boom, minerals boom etc.
Most expensive house in Australia is in Perth selling for 85 million AUD

Yeah, but I said over 150 metres, you only mentioned 1 proposal there. That will have a great impact (not)
Rizzato January 5th, 2007, 06:07 AM I give it 8.5 need some height, the sharp tower look nice
perth is what number in terms of pop. in australia?
PerthCity January 5th, 2007, 04:29 PM 4th. (Behind Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane).
sebvill January 5th, 2007, 05:46 PM A good-looking city. 9/10 (My 3rd favourite skyline in Aussie after Gold Coast and Sydney).
Cristovão471 January 6th, 2007, 04:09 AM I think Perth has around 1.5 million, but growing extremley fast (Australian standards)
bola January 6th, 2007, 06:18 PM when can perth become a mega city like sydney etc.
when it does 10/10
Cristovão471 January 8th, 2007, 04:50 AM They say perth is to grow to 2 million in the next 20 years, thats pretty good for the most isolated city in the world.
Wezza January 15th, 2007, 02:01 PM ^^
Just to add to that comment, isn't it the most isolated city of over 1 million in the world? There are possibly more isolated cities with less than that 1 million around.
KaRoLiNa_CoLoMbIa January 16th, 2007, 12:48 AM 9/10..:D
Pas January 16th, 2007, 01:37 AM ^^

true.. Perth is the most isolated city in terms of distance to the nearest city with a similar size.
Some say Honolulu is more isolated though it has a population of only about 350,000.
Wezza January 16th, 2007, 11:02 AM ^^
Having visited Honolulu, it feels bigger than 350,000 IMO.
Cristovão471 January 16th, 2007, 02:58 PM The Metropolitan of Honolulu has 900,000 people.
ferguz January 16th, 2007, 06:28 PM I fell in love with this Skyline: 10/10
Dissenter January 25th, 2007, 06:46 AM Home is where the heart is. Too bad about the annoying boom-bust economy that scares off new projects. 8.5.
Javier January 25th, 2007, 01:34 PM I took a long time to vote, I don't know why...
Perth is an example of an Ideal skyline, with a beautiful park, tall skyscrapers (not crowded), a highway passing trough. It looks too organized.
9.5/10
Alibaba February 10th, 2007, 02:59 AM 7 for skyline
9 for setting - beautiful swan river and botanical gardens
dmg1mn February 10th, 2007, 07:49 AM Nice 8/10
