What is the website for this project? I saw it on a banner that was hung down the side of the Kaufman Warehouse, but I did not read it clearly and I can't find it!!!

They are opening their display suit later this month or early Feb I believe. sa-dreamer, did you find a website yet? Only thing I saw was the city link about the development. There was an article in The Record about it and that the UW campus being built across the street helped hurry the project along. Depending on how successful it is a Stage 2 will start but only once the UW campus is up and going late 2007. Its a beautiful building and the city council waived development fees to get it going. I think the entire Wharehouse District will start along once the WLU and UW campus developments near completion. Kitchener has much potential to give the old factories the 'Manchester' treatment and change the inner city.

On news north of the city - Waterloo announced that Waterloo Town Square along with the office tower will be demolished in April with all the tenants (in the south end & tower) moving out by March. A new street will run thru the centre of the mall and a new city square will be built along with a mix used development built in stages. So goodbye Liquidation World and office tower!! The north end of the shopping centre is being retained and redevelopment. Downtown Waterloo will look miles better and hopefully will retain its historic character. A massive 800 unit apartment complex is going up between the Seagram building and Waterloo Rec Centre. They are trying to get permission to push height limits over 10 stories as currently Uptown Waterloo has a limit which the Marland Centre brought about.

Kitchener is finally doing something reasonable. Kaufman factory is just about the PERFECT site for lofts, I didn't even know this was going on, but I came back to KW tonight, and look what I see: KAUFMAN LOFTS banner. I had no idea, although I always thought they'd be idiots if they didn't transform this. In about 15-20 or so years, Kitchener might finally have quite a decent, mixed-use downtown...

As for Waterloo, the Waterloo Town Square news are good indeed, although I'll wait to see how it turns out. This would all look miles better if the whole RIM thing didn't happen since money could be used elsewhere. Uptown doesn't have the same retransformation possibilites as downtown--it's much smaller. Maybe in 30-40 years they will be one long downtown area. That would make sense.

Seeing as how I'll be continuing my studies in either Toronto or London or Ottawa, I won't see the city as much (I don't really plan to visit all that often, K/W is very boring right now) but I would like to see K/W become a more urban place in the long run.

I thank god for Kitchener being a quiet breederville. It goes against everything single thing I am. Still the environment helps keep my grades in the A range. I'd be way too distracted in Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver. Still, I only have one more year and then Melbourne will be my mecca.

KAUFMAN LOFTS WEBSITE (http://www.kaufmanlofts.com)

OK..

1.) When does conversion begin?
2.) What about Arrow Lofts? Are those still going to happen?

Thanks for the website. The display unit opens next month and development is supposed to begin later this summer with completion around the end of 2006/early 2007. Stage 2 will go ahead pending development of UW Kitchener campus & based on the success of Stage 1.

As for Arrow its overdue bigtime. The former Arrow shirt factory in downtown Kitchener has been given the go-ahead for a major redevelopment by London-based Auburn Developments. This development appears to be taking its sweet assed time. Its a pretty massive development though with a total 340 loft and apartment condominiums which will go up on the old industrial site bounded by Courtland Avenue, and Benton, St. George and Queen Streets. It will start probably this summer but I should probably check with Colliers and find out whats delaying it. The Kauffman development might spur it on. I'll check with Colliers this week and let you know.
Cheers

Any answers?

1.) When does project commence?

2.) What is included in Phase One, and what is Phase Two?

3.) Any drawings or plans for the exterior? Any meetings I could go to to see the exterior depictions? (I guess I could wait for the website, too ;))

Sa-dreamer. Still have to call Colliers re the Arrow project. Sorry, I've been busy with papers and exams already but I'll do my best to have the info before Tuesday night. As for the Kaufman project, well its Feb but I haven't been by the development yet to see if the display suite is open. As soon as it is I'll pop in for a sticky beak.

sa-dreamer - sorry for the long delay in getting back re the Arrow development but it doesn't appear to be going ahead. Much will likely depend on how the Kaufman Lofts perfrom. I called Colliers and was advised Arrow is dead in the water for now. Lets hope the Kaufman does well. There marketing suite should be open shortly if not already.

Wow, FINALLY something is being done to Waterloo TSq. I recall the First Gulf proposal way back when I was a student at UW. Then it floundered and that was it.

I am glad to see this finally moving forward. Both downtown Kitchener and Uptown Waterloo have great potential.

There was an article in the RECORD stating that the KAUFMAN LOFTS have been selling in record time. Something like 46 out of 60 sold in first couple of weeks since opening. With this interest in lofts in Kitchener hopefully Stage 2 will be pushed ahead. Originally they wanted to wait to UW campus was up and running but now they might go ahead. Stage 2 is like twice the size and has a tower element I believe. Nothing hugely tall though but I believe its like a new wing along the northern end of the building.

Hopefully this will spur along the Arrow Development but the London based owners/developers are like 3 years behind and don't seem to be in a hurry to do much of anything.
