The city’s population stood at 478,000 in 2004.

Dresden was wonderful before WWII, now they rebuilt/restored some old, wonderful, buildings of the Altstadt and restoring others in the Neustadt, Vilnius fortunately never suffered such a bombing during the war, so it's more "original" than Dresden, and the old town is much bigger nowadays.
It's difficult to choose between the 2, but by now I think Vilnius is better.

Except for the town center and a couple of districts, Dresden looks like crap. It's still a fairly nice city but it can't compete with other large cities who still have a true old town center.

sorry,but i TOTALLY disagree with you!Dresden's old town center is definitaly the most beautiful in germany of >500.000 inhabitants cities!
and it's the most beautiful city in ex-ddr by far!Dresden's old town blows cities like cologne,munich,hamburg etc. away!the only bad things in dresden are the commie-blocks around the center!but they are getting modernized with glass facades!

Hard to compare. Both towns are rather different.

1. Unfreundliche Frau, die im Reisezentrum des Bahnhofs in Dresden arbeitet. Die war ziemlich unfreundlich und sprach mit sehr starkem saechs. Akzent. :lol:
2. Dresdner Bahnhof ist ein dreckiger Sauschuppen.
3. Kleingaerten sowjetisches Typs im Stadtzentrum. Da war ich einfach platt.
4. Dresdner Arroganz- "Elbemetropole"- dass ich nicht lache :lol:
